This tale did a wonderful job of using metaphors to explain how and why the world had become such a terrible place after the devil’s mirror was accidentally broken. There were footnotes after the final paragraph to explain some of them. I was glad I paused to read each one as it popped up in the text and would suggest that other readers do the same thing. Those footnotes were beautifully written and really helped me to understand some of the more complex metaphors.

Most of the characters revealed their proper names during the course of the plot. Some were identified by the first letter of their name, and others were described by their occupation or some other label. It was amazing to see how well I got to know them regardless of how they were addressed. The author did a wonderful job of showing who they were as individuals, from their interests to their personality traits.

One of the things I enjoyed the most about this story was the ending. The beginning and middle were filled with scenes that didn’t always seem to be related to each other. There were times when I wondered where the author was going and if my theories about it were correct, so it was a joy to see everything coalesce in the end in about the way I hoped it would.

The Time Invariance of Snow was the best piece of hard science fiction I’ve read this year. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

A little witch named Delia has been looking forward all year to flying in the annual Witch Parade. When the rumors of rain come true and the other witches start complaining, Delia takes action. This time to hats and clogs. And finally, she tries bats and frogs. But each new type of rain brings its own set of problems. How will Delia save the day?

The spells in this story were absolutely adorable. Delia had the best of intentions when she first changed the rainstorm into cats and dogs, but she couldn’t have predicted how her interference would make things worse. Her attempts to fix things only grew funnier over time, and I looked forward to every new spell she came up with to solve the problems that the last one caused. She had such a creative way of weaving words together every single time she cast a new one.

One of the most delightful things about this story was how all of the witches interacted with each other while they were having their parade. They really seemed to care about each other, and this was shown in all sorts of little ways as the main character kept trying new ways to change the weather. I had such a good time reading their comments as they adjusted to the various animals and items that were falling from the sky. There was a lot of room for humor here, and they took advantage of that fully.

The twist at the end made me giggle. It was the perfect way to wrap up a memorable Witch Day parade, and it left me wanting more while also making me feel like I knew exactly enough about what happened on this particular day. Although I would definitely be interested in reading a sequel to this if the author ever decides to write one!

It’s Raining Bats & Frogs was a heartwarming tale that I’d recommend to Halloween lovers of all ages.

Are you ready to step into the unknown?

In these 18 sci-fi stories, you’ll encounter aliens of all shapes and sizes, curious (and sometimes unlucky) space explorers, and ordinary Earthlings having otherworldly experiences.

Some of the out-of-this-world tales in this short fiction anthology include:

“The Hoax” – A reporter learns that a creature from another planet is a dangerous thing to fool with

“It Grows on You” – A strange kind of mold has invaded an office, and it’s the perfect tool for revenge

So it is viagra 25 mg always recommended to consult your doctor before taking the medication include the following. “The Con” – An alien becomes an unlikely ally to a down-on-his-luck petty crook

“Space Cowboy” – When a second-rate rodeo star is abducted by aliens, he makes the most of the situation

“They Just Keep Eating” – A Nebraska farmer encounters a menace from space… and it’s hungry

This collection of speculative fiction will stimulate your imagination, unnerve you just a little, and make you wonder… “What if we’re not alone?”

Even the most ordinary day can turn out to be full of surprises.

As soon as I read the description of “What Lurks Below” in the blurb, I couldn’t wait to find out more. The only thing more exciting than finding life on Mars would be discovering somewhere astronauts might not expect it to lurk. Ray, the protagonist, was someone who’d never expected to travel to the red planet in the first place. Learning this fact about him early on only made me more curious to see what he’d discover now that he was there.

All of these stories were deliciously short. Some of them were only a page or two long! What impressed me about that is how the author was still able to draw all sorts of fascinating parallels between the various places she invented. Characters encountered similar odd events in certain cases, but the outcomes of them were still wildly different from one plot to the next. “Live from Space” was an excellent example of this. Like “What Lurks Below,” it followed explorations on Mars that gave the researchers working on them results they never could have imagined. While I can’t go into details about what, exactly, was found in this case, I loved comparing it to the other Mars and alien planets that various characters explore.

One of my favorite tales in this collection was “Ground Cover.” It followed a young boy named Stanley whose friend was chopping down an overgrown patch of wild ivy in order to find his lost baseball. When the ivy reacted unexpectedly, Stanley was injured and needed to seek help. All of this happened in the first few paragraphs, so I was thrilled to see what might happen to these characters next. The possibilities seemed endless!

I’d heartily recommend Extraterrestrial Encounters: A Collection of Sci-Fi Stories to anyone who loves this genre and is in the mood for short, satisfying glimpses of unique worlds.  Very cool! Very interesting!

If you know someone that would love to read a sweet holiday romance then this book would be a perfect gift.

This is not my first Willa Blair book but it is my favorite one she’s written so far. When You Find Love hit me in all the feel good spots. It was entertaining, heart warming, humorous and intellectually engaging.

The heroine, Caitlin, was responsible for all the reasons I fell in love with this book. She brought out the good in other people. Her job as an antique appraiser was fascinating. I was intrigued with her knowledge and skill in appraising.

The hero, Holt, was easy to feel compassion and sympathy for. It was a pleasure to read how Caitlin was able to break down his walls of defense. They made for a sweet romance. I have to share something funny. Often as I was reading I’d read Holt’s name as “hot” and it would make me stumble in my reading which made me laugh at myself because well, he was hot to look at too.

The synopsis piqued my interest in finding out what Caitlin discovers and how the secret could destroy everything. Without giving any spoilers this was my favorite plot in the book. It was riveting and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. I only wonder what could possibly be stored in my parent’s attic.

The cast of characters were well developed and easily relatable which made the book more meaningful. I could feel the romance in the air.

I definitely recommend reading this book with a nice cup of hot cocoa sitting by a Christmas tree. It’s better than a movie on the Hallmark channel.

Oh my gosh, this was a really good book. I felt like I was watching a movie. In fact, I think it should be one. The title of the book warmed my heart because it reminded me of one of my favorite John Michael Montgomery songs “rope the moon”. I loved how the author even referred to the title in the beginning of the story. I was already intrigued by the synopsis to read the book but the first few pages truly captured my interest and kept it until the last sentence.

I fell in love with Dalton the moment he rode into town. I love a strong hero with a huge heart. The heroine, Lacy, was a town favorite. It was fun to see her fall for Dalton considering we all assumed he would move onto the next town after he tamed Far Creek’s mounting trouble. The ending was well worth the stress of how they were going to work things out.

There was page turning excitement woven throughout the story as Dalton did his job that made it nearly impossible for me to put the book down. Dalton was more than a hero in my eyes. He made my book boyfriend list.

There were several well developed characters that were relatable, giving the feeling of a small down kinship–which is why I could see this book being made into a series. I’d love for there to a sequel to this story. I didn’t want it to end.

This is definitely a book for the keeper shelf. I hope others enjoy it as much as I did.

A bemused earl. A governess disguised. A forbidden love and a terrible wrong that must be made right!

At No.18, Baldwin Summers, the Earl of Cartwell, deals with innumerable problems. At thirty-six, he’s changed. He’s no longer simply ‘Win’, that famous hero of Waterloo, but hailed as his profligate brother’s heir. He’s pensioned off his two mistresses and become oh, so bored with gambling. Yes, too, his mother presses him to marry—but he’d rather remove his spleen with a pickle fork than wed just any young peagoose.

Suddenly, he’s had thrust upon him guardianship of his friend’s eight-year-old daughter. Though she tickles him with her wit…and her exotic pets, the child needs a firm hand. With no idea how to mold her into a socially acceptable creature, he hires a governess.

However, that woman presents his most pressing problem—and his delight. She enchants his ward. But she’s beguiling him as well. And it’s a wonder because she is so very…odd. She knows (yes, indeed) bugs, defeats him every time at chess—and dances. In his upstairs hall. Alone. For the joy of it.

She is a temptation and a mystery. With a problem.

Stubborn, she refuses to allow him to help.

He won at Waterloo. But can we win the woman he loves?

Two days ago I finished this book and I’m still reveling in it. I loved everything about it. I can’t stress enough how entertaining this book was to me. His Tempting Governess is book two in the series but it can easily be read as a standalone.

The hero, Cartwell, was perfect in my eyes. I loved his generous nature. He was well respected and loved by many which made him endearing to me. The way he interacted with his staff, family members and with the heroine, Belle, was genuine and heart touching.

Belle was equally relatable. I admired her authenticity and desire to find justice for herself. What was done to her was horrible and unacceptable. I was relieved to see her find happiness with Cartwell. Together they made the perfect romance.

There were a few supporting characters that added to the enjoyment of the story. Two in particular were completely original and unexpected. I wish I could talk about why they were but it would be a spoiler. The plot was fun, creative and flowed smoothly from beginning to end.

I wish the book was longer just because I didn’t want to reach the end. However, when I did my heart was bursting with joy and merriment. I highly recommend His Tempting Governess.

I particularly loved seeing the the hero, Duke of Sheffield, succumb to falling in love with Sophia, the heroine. It was no secret they disliked each other in the first book. I actually read Whom Shall I Marry… An Earl or a Duke? in a few hours. Wow, did it enrich my day!

The plot and delivery were well-developed and orchestrated in a refreshing and clever presentation, giving me an unpredictable and entertaining read. The cast of characters were a fun lot. I loved their matchmaking efforts and I anticipate that Rory and Dallis are going to make their own story an awesome read in the Tricking the Scoundrels series too.

Can total opposites – a feisty, bold girl from Ireland and a quiet, straight-laced Jewish guy from New Jersey – find love at the holidays? With the double whammy of a Hanukkah miracle and some Christmas magic, they just might.

This was a totally cute book. I really enjoyed reading it. My favorite part was when Anna, the heroine, met David, the hero. Quite entertaining to say the least. They made an interesting romance story considering how opposite they were. I thought it was heartwarming how the author incorporated a romance between two characters with different religious backgrounds but in no way was this a religious book. Holidays in Manhattan is book 5 in the series but is definitely a standalone read.

I felt the story was well written because I could definitely feel the holiday magic in the air. I’ve never been to New York at Christmas time but it’s on my bucket list. I was able to relate to the characters such as Anna’s roommate and her brother’s family. David’s family was present in the cast of characters as well as a couple of his friends. The plot was current, fresh and down to earth. I loved how humble David was. Together, David and Anna made for a spicy romance that was interesting to read from the beginning to the end. Opposites definitely attract.

This would make a fun stocking stuffer for Christmas. I’d recommend this as a perfect holiday gift for a friend or family member who loves to read contemporary romance books.

A captivating exploration of how a family gets a farm ready for the snow of winter, Sleep Tight Farm lyrically connects each growing season to the preparations at the very end of the farm year. This beautiful and informative book paints a fascinating picture of what winter means to the farm year and to the family that shares its seasons, from spring’s new growth, summer’s heat, and fall’s bounty to winter’s well-earned rest. All year long the farm has worked to shelter us, feed us, keep us warm, and now it’s time to sleep.

I’d never thought about some of the preparations that a farm must go through after the growing season ends. For example, I had no idea that raspberry bushes need to be cut back at the end of autumn to protect these plants from winter storms and ice. It was interesting to read about all of the work that goes into keeping livestock and crops safe between now and the beginning of spring.

None of the human characters in this tale were named, but I still got to know them well by seeing how carefully they took care of all of the living things that relied on them. The family who lived on and managed this farm clearly loved their work. They did everything they could to keep their animals happy and their fields well maintained. I couldn’t have imagined better people for this job. They only made the already-wholesome plot even better.

One of the things I enjoyed the most about this picture book was how it bid good night to so many different parts of a working farm. From the fields to the cord wood that will keep the farmhouse warm and cozy for the next several months, everything on this property was acknowledged for its contributions and gently nudged into resting happily until spring. There was something so sweet and gracious about that repetition.

Sleep Tight Farm: A Farm Prepares for Winter was a calm, cheerful look at everything farmers have to do to prepare for winter. I’d highly recommend it to any kid or curious adult who enjoys learning about where their food comes from.
