In a world where a werecat virus has changed society, Roan McKichan, a born infected and ex-cop, works as a private detective trying to solve crimes involving other infecteds.

Until recently, Roan was ahead of the curve when it came to reining in the lion that lives inside him. Now his control is slipping at the worst possible times. A new drug has hit the streets—one that triggers unscheduled changes in infected users. Street hustler Holden Krause gets attacked by one of his clients, then is surprised to find himself involved in an unwanted, unexpected relationship. And a serial killer begins targeting infecteds in their cat form—something that’s 100 percent legal.

To stop the murders, Roan has to work outside the law. But his newfound thirst for violence makes him worry he might be more like the killer than he thought, and his reluctance to talk about it with his husband, Dylan, puts an extra strain on their relationship. So Roan isn’t just fighting the killer and struggling with his mutating virus… he’s trying to save himself.

I get the impression that Ms. Speed loves to blow expectations and assumptions right out of the water because Infected: Lesser Evils does exactly that. The format is different, the ending is different and the players are juggled, jiggled and tested beyond endurance. In short, the whole reading experience is an exercise in amazement, thrills, chills and astounded disbelief at some of the things that happen. To say this book gripped my attention from the suspense is an understatement. I was taken hostage. I had this almost insane need to know what happens next, who it was going to happen to and who, if anyone, would survive. Talk about classic drama! I couldn’t put the book down.

Expect to see most of the usual crew in this novel. The new characters need to be wearing red shirts because every one seems to be a target of something foul and hate-filled, even if not all of them die, they should have. But that’s my inner vigilante showing.

Poor Roan is inundated with all things bizarre. Readers will not be disappointed in his latest adventures. There’s the classic Roan sense of humor, the sometimes self-destructive behavior, his love for Dylan and his missing of his first husband, Paris. But there’s something new introduced too – hope and fear. I am not going to tell readers what inspired which, that pleasure will come from reading the book.

There’s a new conflict that is drug induced. I get the feeling this is only the tip of the iceberg and I don’t believe Roan is going to succeed in making a dent in it’s existence. It’s a hard pill to swallow – which is the only pill that is. (inside pun for fans of the series). Then there is the horrific cat-killer case that really disturbed me. I actually felt for the female cougar – she showed signs of being present or connected with her human side just a little bit. I wonder if other readers caught that?

And Holden! Poor Holden. Getting more interesting by the book, Holden. That man is totally indescribable. He’s hot, snarky, secretive, deadly and a really great sidekick for Roan. But when the author put Scott and Holden in the same room, things really got interesting. I can’t wait to see what Ms. Speed is going to do with those two. Hopefully something because the possibilities of great emotional conflict are abundant.

Speaking of emotional conflict – wow. Dylan and Roan have had their moments but Ms. Speed really got into their heads this time with some truly direct zingers that affected my feelings. I’m worried about Roan. In fact I’m frantic! Ms. Speed did not have the case wrap-ups come about the way she has in the past and the ending left me stunned. I’m in denial and I kept talking to the book like it would make a difference. With one chapter, Ms. Speed has guaranteed the next book to be an auto-buy. No fan of the series, who adores it as much as I do, will be left unaffected by this novel. There will be a long line of rabid fans waiting for the next book, I guarantee it. Is it too much to ask that the next book comes out in time for Christmas?

Once again, Infected: Lesser Evils includes plenty of gritty action, tough talk, fights, bites and blood. There are bad cops and good cops, a church with a bizarre offer and the best part, more fun with the hockey players. Grey, Tank and the gang are some of the most fun additions to this series. Ms. Speed had a stroke of genius when she created them. They provided many chuckles, snickers and guffaws throughout and I’m going to miss Tank. He’s awesome. They all are, really.

Infected: Lesser Evils is a must buy. It’s simply amazing and totally action-packed with conflict, revelations and excitement. There is some downtime where readers get a bit more insight into each character. As each book in the series progresses, everyone who populates it grows, changes and becomes more fully formed. It’s a great series and I recommend it highly.

With parents who own a Vegas strip club, elementary school teacher Sara Piermont has always steered clear of kinky. Now she’s ready to sow her own wild oats and give in to the sexual fantasies taunting her. Her cousin’s bachelorette weekend at an all-inclusive dude ranch seems the perfect place to let her hair down. And Dane Dumen is the rugged cowboy she has set her sights on for a weekend of uninhibited passion.

Dane loves to walk on the wild side, and sexy Sarah is the perfect muse for a fantasy weekend filled with restraints and other naughty things. Though he’s never stepped over the line between a fling and commitment, Sarah proves to be a lure he can’t resist. Dane quickly finds he’s playing with fire and has to decide…rein in his heart or risk a permanent brand.

Sara’s first impression was that Dane is one sexy stud, and the horse isn’t too bad either. Yes, Dane is just what the doctor ordered. A sexy cowboy to help Sara experiment with all her kinky secrets for the weekend before starting her new life.

One word can explain Dane:  yum. Most women have had a fantasy about a raunchy cowboy at one time or another and I am sure he would look like Dane. Not only are the looks excellent, but he has a personality to match. Even if his and Sara’s relationship is a brief fling, it is clear that he cares about her well-being and happiness. He is the type of man any girl can see herself falling in love with; I know I did and I did not even get to meet the guy. Well at least not physically, because in my mind I was Sara and was begging to be tied to the bed.

The relationship development in this courtship was right on point. Both parties knew what they wanted and how they wanted to get it. It displayed the type of relationship you expect from two adults who know who they are. Even though Sara was stepping out of her comfort zone, she still had an air of confidence that helped to move these characters and the story forward. I was so enthralled by the story that it seemed as if I’d only just started reading it, and then it was over. I would definitely re-read this story and recommend it to anyone looking to saddle up with a hot cowboy.

Jeff does his best to spend time with her outside of work but he can’t be sure she’s his for the night. All he can do is hope that Madame Eve agrees with his heart and Monica will let her guard down long enough to see their passionate potential.

Opposing counsel Jeffrey Ellison and Monica Collins have a healthy respect for each other as well as being secretly in lust. Monica is a buttoned up, always professional woman who would not allow her secret desires to interfere with her working relationships. Although she dreams of being with Jeffrey, she will not allow herself to be. Deena can’t help but fantasise about the hot handyman she meets next door. She’s certain that the gorgeous blond has exactly the tool she needs.

Curvy, quirky Deena Stevens never quite fitted in. She feels especially out of place in the company of “The Botox Brigade”—the kept and polished women populating the upscale homes that border her organic farm.

Regardless of their differences, Deena’s neighbours seem to enjoy her company. They sit and chat when they come to buy Deena’s free-range eggs and pesticide-free veggies. They even invite her to join their book club—despite the objection of Suzanne, who hosts the club meetings and clearly considers herself the queen of the group.

The book-clubbers peacefully coexist until a house call from sexy handyman, Bill, disrupts the monthly meeting. The women jostle for attention and superficial friendships are tested. Jealousies flare when the hot, handsome blond openly flirts with Deena and ignores the trophy wives. Suzanne has already set her sights on Bill, and when Deena reveals his surprising connection to her past, Suzanne gets territorial.

After their surprise reunion, Bill promises to keep in touch with Deena. Bill shows up at Deena’s door and a night of incomparable passion leaves them both craving more. When Suzanne discovers their tryst she begins crafting a plan to destroy the new love affair and steal the sexy handyman for herself.

Will Mr. Fix-It have what it takes to repair the damage?

Deena Stevens operates a farm in an upscale neighborhood selling her pesticide free vegetables and eggs to the women there. As a result, the ‘Botox Brigade’ which she lovingly calls them, has included her in their monthly book club meetings which is led by Suzanne. Not being as polished as they are, Deena is comfortable with the few extra pounds she wears and the haphazard way she wears her hair. This particular day, Deena was late as always for the meeting which led to Suzanne calling her and yelling about her tardiness.

Bill Swenson is the handyman Suzanne uses to fix things around her house, it doesn’t hurt that he’s tall, blond and gorgeous. Which is why Suzanne constantly finds things for him to fix; after all who wouldn’t want such a beautiful man around? One look at Bill and Deena knew that he would never be interested in her until she took a second look and realized that Bill was her summer camp crush when they were fifteen.

This was a very good story, the author portrayed a not so perfect woman among cosmetically perfect ones and still showed how love can look past the surface. Not everyone is perfect but everyone deserves a chance at love, and Bill wanted Deena. Suzanne was the bitch you knew you would hate, especially with her snide remarks, and scheming ways. She couldn’t stand that Bill only had eyes for Deena, especially when he had someone as perfect as her in front of him. Mr. Fix-It is an enjoyable read and if you do pick up a copy I hope that you will enjoy it as much as this reader did.

In the blink of an eye, Jack is loose and Walker is dead… and Lillian must accept a truth about her rescuer that will change her world forever. What if the patients aren’t insane? What if their stories of secret government experiments and monsters are true?

I couldn’t put it down. I started reading “Perfect Mate” by Mina Carter a little after midnight and had to force myself to put it down and go to sleep at 3am. The next day, as soon as I had a chance I picked it up again.

“Perfect Mate” was a fantastic read in all senses. Ms. Carter easily mixed paranormal creatures of diverse nature turning what could have been an awkward situation into something that made all the sense in the world. Her descriptions were vivid and vibrant, ranging from gruesome to fun to sexy and easily sucking me into the surreal adventure the characters were living.

Never boring for a second, the story is a wild rollercoaster ride that had me dropping my jaw a few times, as unexpected event took place. However, I did feel that Lillian, was a little too unlucky at times.

Nonetheless, even throughout the frightening nightmare the characters were living Ms. Carter did not neglect the romance. Ever present, the growing desire between Jack and Lillian was so well constructed that I was on the edge of my seat, butterflies dancing in my stomach, waiting for their happily ever after to finally reach them. But, Jack and Lillian are not the only characters in this breathtaking tale. Darce, Antonia, Nic, Sanders… all of them managed to tug at my heartstrings and leave behind an array of unanswered questions which I hope is the foundation for future novels.

Perfect Mate is an engaging, fun, romantic read that will leave you wanting more.

Gideon Cross. As beautiful and flawless on the outside as he was damaged and tormented on the inside. He was a bright, scorching flame that singed me with the darkest of pleasures. I couldn’t stay away. I didn’t want to. He was my addiction… my every desire… mine.

My past was as violent as his, and I was just as broken. We’d never work. It was too hard, too painful… except when it was perfect. Those moments when the driving hunger and desperate love were the most exquisite insanity.

We were bound by our need. And our passion would take us beyond our limits to the sweetest, sharpest edge of obsession…

This reader has been an antsy girl just waiting to get her hands on the newest addition to the beautiful disaster that is Eva and Gideon’s relationship. If you read my review for the previous book, you’ll know how much I adore this loving, sexy train wreck.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started reading Reflected in You. I just knew that after Bared to You that I hadn’t had enough of this troubled couple or the drama that circled them like vultures looking for food. Obviously there were questions and issues that had yet to be addressed which easily set up this second installment for more angst and pain.

The author did an amazing job of answering some of those burning questions from the previous book while creating more and weaving an even more intimate tale of love, lust and pain.

This book picks up right were we left off with Bared to You. Eva and Gideon are still trying to wade through their somewhat unhealthy relationship which consists of sex, love, addiction, obsession, and a huge dash of possession. Typically the latter three are never healthy in any manner, but it’s the only way this couple knows how to be. They go to couple counseling to try to work around those potentially deadly traits. The book begins with a focus on their issues together, apart and as a whole. Both wanting trust from the other yet between his secrets, both old and new, and her jealousy it would be hard for any couple to overcome such things. But one thing that never falters is their deep love for one another. Their devotion is show in this quote:

‘ “It’s what you see in me, angel,” he said quietly, his features softening. “That you can know what I have in me and still want me as much as I want you. I go to sleep every night afraid I’ll wake up and you’ll be gone. Or that I scared you away . . . that I dreamed you—” “No. Gideon.” Jesus. He broke my heart every day. Shattered me.’

Overall, Ms. Day did a fabulous job with the characters portraying the vast range of emotions people experience, not only in an intense sexually charged relationship, but when the participants of said relationship are haunted by pasts filled with pain, trauma and betrayal. I didn’t feel as Eva’s extreme reactions were unwarranted for the situation, and I didn’t feel as though Gideon was demanding too much when he did. In all honesty, I think in a few scenes most people would have been more severe than these characters were.

Still, I could not put this book down, and may have neglected a few things in order to lose myself in this tale. The pain was real, the sex was scorching and the love was as deep as an ocean. This book felt like such a puzzle until everything started to fall into place at the very end. If you’re like me, you’ll find yourself marking your calender for December 31st, when Entwined with You is released because you’ll be hungry to see if Eva and Gideon find their happily ever after.

Anya’s wish for a normal date—away from the old man she is caretaker for—comes true in unexpected ways when she finds herself whisked to an ancient Irish stone circle on solstice eve.

Carrick’s decision to follow the path to become an Ovate druid has not come lightly, and he plans to spend the solstice eve in meditation unless fairies or evil spirits disrupt the circle. When a feisty girl walks right up to the fire, more than sparks fly.

They each seek healing and a connection, but the darkness of summer is short, and once the solstice sun breaks through the circle at dawn, the magic of the night will be over. Even Madame Eve can’t stop the day from rising.

The perfect man. Does he exist? What if the answer is yes, but not in your time, but the ancient past? Madame Eve has matched another couple who seem to be perfect for each other, but how do they make it work?

Anya is a lonely and overworked woman in present day North Carolina. With the exception of her weekly visit to an Irish Pub, she has little interaction with anyone other than her boss, and has signed up for the 1Night Stand service in hopes of finding a man who could at least share her bed, if nothing more.

Carrick is a Druid in ancient Ireland. Devoted to becoming an Ovate, his life is seemingly predestined for loneliness, despite his lingering doubts as to what is right for him. On the eve of the Solstice, his duty is to tend to the fires. He doesn’t expect to have company.

I thoroughly enjoy the 1Night Stand stories, not only because of the heat level, but because there are wonderful characters and story development in such a few, short pages. Druid, Mine, however, left me wanting a bit more. I could understand the initial connection between the two characters – both were lonely, both lacked family or friends, and both were attracted to the other – but there didn’t seem to be much beyond that. To imagine two characters from such dramatically different times and places, I wouldn’t discount a relationship working, but there’d have to be a reason for it. Loneliness and attraction isn’t enough, particularly when one has to have their world so drastically changed in order to continue together.

Ms. Adrienne does have a wonderful way of describing her environment. I know little of the time of the Druids, but the context of her story helped me to catch on quickly as to what was happening. I wasn’t clear on all of the things described, but I was able to picture enough to enjoy the story and had a mental picture of where and when the couple was.

If I was to review the book based solely on their one night, it was a huge hit. It was the happily ever after that left me scratching my head. If you’re looking for a hot hook up, set wonderfully in ancient times, this is could be one to look into.

Strike a match, light the candle…and fall into the spell.

Heart’s Desire, Book 1

Christopher Beckett is from an ancient line of wizards, but with one aspect that sets him apart. His wolf. Right now that wolf is howling for a mate. Knowing it’s only a matter of time before the wolf’s needs override everything else in his life, Chris casts the spell all the Becketts have used to call their mates to them.

His wish list is short: She must be of a lineage at least as old as his own. And she must accept his wolf. When his mate appears, he realizes his list should have been one item longer.

Alannah Evans, a powerful witch of the Evans Coven, has no problem with Chris’s wolf. It’s the wizard part that sticks in her magical craw. Witches and wizards have always been at odds, so by rights, she and Chris shouldn’t be striking sparks of attraction this bright. But Chris will not be denied, and gradually she finds herself trusting him—then falling into the fire of desire.

When it becomes clear an old enemy has targeted them both for death, Chris charges into a duel that could cost him his life. Or worse: Lana.

When casting spells, wizards should always be as specific as possible. Christopher Beckett learns this the hard way, when he casts the spell generations of wizards in his family have used to bring their mates to them. Because Chris is more than just a wizard, he is also wolf. His spell asked for a mate from a lineage as old as his, and a woman who can accept his wolf. What he got was Alannah Evans, a witch from a powerful coven. Alannah didn’t have any problems with Chris’s wolf at all. But his being a wizard, that could be a problem, because wizards and witches generally didn’t get along. When Chris, in his wolf form, saves Alannah from a killer, she has to decide whether to follow him to safety or run. As she gets to know him, she first begins to trust him, and then to care for him. But when an old enemy targets them both for death, can they survive to be together? When secrets are exposed, can these two magical beings adapt? Can Lana and Chris have a happy ever after in spite of it all?

Shadow of the Wolf is the first book in a new series from Dana Marie Bell, and it is a terrific beginning to what looks like a lot of fun. There is Ms. Bell’s usual mix of wry humor, magical danger and hot sex, gathered together with some intriguing twists and turns in the plot. The world of this one is well built, with characters that could live next door…well if your next door neighbors could shift into wolves or cast magical spells, that is. This book grabbed me from the first page, and I just couldn’t wait to see what happened next.

Alannah ‘Lana’ Evans is from a powerful family of witches, thoroughly modern and talented. She is strong, courageous and determined to live life her way. I enjoyed the verbal sparring between Lana and Chris, and the fact that she was never intimidated by either facet of Chris-his magic or his wolf. I loved her spontaneity, and her ability to adapt when necessary in order to protect and defend what is hers. I liked that she was able to accept that Chris was hers, as much as she was his.

Chris is such a strong character, lonely at first, and delighted with the turn of events as he finally meets his mate. I loved that, because of one little oversight, he gets something he didn’t bargain for in Lana. I enjoyed watching him slowly work his way into her heart, not with grand gestures, but by being himself, and showing her his true feelings. He is determined to stop Cole from harming his family and his mate, and his protective streak is plain to see. I loved that he was able to let Lana be who and what she was meant to be, and never really tried to keep her from being the independent and strong mate he needed.

There are several really surprising twists to this story, like the way the brothers accept things, and the typical sibling rivalry that gets silly at times. Then there is the turn with Gareth and his future, and Zach and his very shocking development. I adored the secondary characters in this book, and can’t wait for more in this world. I look forward to more about Gareth, Daniel and especially Zachary Beckett in the future. This one is for all of those readers who love some magic with their romance and like their stories hot. It may be autumn, but you’ll need to keep the fan on high for this one.

When someone perfect drops down from Heaven, you have to say a seriously huge thank you to the Big Guy!

Mihael is an angel responsible for loyalty and is completely shocked when he is put on trial for upholding loyalty over compassion. A mysterious assignment on Earth is supposed to help him understand and this starts with seeing Arthur, a mortal, being bullied and asked to doctor numbers in the accounts he is working on.

This is the first book I have read in the Celestial Justice series which is about different angels falling in love. The first chapter took me a while to get into, I wasn’t completely sure what was going on or who was who, but that probably wouldn’t have been the case if I’d read others in the series.

Mihael’s love interest is language teacher Francis Portillo. Their meeting is sudden, with Miheal just appearing in front of him. They strike up a conversation and Francis discovers that Mihael has no idea where his is or why. He presumes he has some kind of amnesia and offers to help him. There are a few oddities about Mihael – his lack of ID, wads of cash – that Francis accepts maybe a little too readily, but perhaps that is just my suspicious mind.

Mihael’s Trial has good characters and an element of celestial paranormal. It took a while to get going but once the characters connected it flowed much better. The writing is elegant, the romance sweet and the sex scenes steamy. If you are a fan of this series then I am quite sure it will hit the spot.
