It’s been a White Picket Fence life for Nicolette. Charming, but tedious. She graduated high school, raring to go. Nothing is ever as easy as it seems though. The fear of being stuck in a rut, living a dull day-to-day life keeps Nicolette from settling on a career, despite her six years of college. When the chance arrives for her to housesit, she takes opportunity by the horns for a little playtime. She would experience life and find something that would make her happy.

Drew knows exactly what he wants. To run the family construction business. Too bad his dad doesn’t think he’s ready. They make a deal. Drew will help his cousin put up a new fence and after he’s learned hard work, the construction business is his. Drew’s not sure learning how to string fence line together will see him suitable for a career of paper pushing, but he’ll do it.

When Drew meets the wanna-be-free-spirited Nicolette, his determined thoughts of what he’s always worked for begins to sway. Nicolette’s finding the fun in life. But their relationship is temporary. A week tops.

Get ready for a sweet seduction that is full of charm, endearing characters and loads of fun.

In the Hay has a delightful hero and heroine that pull at the heartstrings, making the journey one a reader will remember.

A reader meets Nicolette and Drew right at the cross roads of their lives. Neither of them knows what they will both mean to the other but the author set the story up beautifully. The lead characters start things off in a safe manner, laying down the ground rules and expectations. They had one explosive and memorable scene that resulted in quite a few emotional time bombs. Then, one got cold feet. However, fate would not be thwarted; their relationship got a second chance and the heat only piled up from there. Lucky for me.

Ms. Ford has a unique and amusing sense of fun and the ridiculous because she has Nicolette exploring all the things she’d always wanted to do with her life. None of them are harmful but they gave the hero an opportunity he’d never had before – chances to be free, to explore the little boy inside. Both Drew and Nicolette have bowed under the expectations that their families have placed upon them. They have tried and tried to conform and earn their respect, and in this book, the time for change and learning about themselves and what they truly want is upon them. This time, they are going to be true to their inner child and the rest of the world can go fly a kite.

Actually, I think Nicolette would enjoy doing that, as well as on top of the kiddie pool and a bunch of other interesting things. My absolute favorite part in this whole book, when it comes to choosing something off of the heroine’s wish list, is the slip and slide. I adored how the author wrote that scene. It was zany, fun and totally off the wall. And, it was romantic and sweet and made me laugh. In fact that is something I did frequently throughout this story – laugh. And the cutest part about that scene? The hero wanted to do it again.

This book should have reached a higher rating and it was almost there. What held it back were some inconsistencies in the writing. There was a jarring scene of head hopping early on, a cinnamon taste that shouldn’t have been there (it should have been beer), and the missing shoes that were and were not, all at the same time. It was how the scene was written; something was left out. Plus a few misspellings as well as the bouncing between Lette and Nicolette until the author found her stride. I really wish the editor had looked a bit closer because this book deserved better.

One thing that is high quality in this story is the sensual build up. Each scene: every time Drew looked into Nicolette’s eyes, every time she smiled at him and the enthusiasm in which the heroine explored the physical side of their relationship, led them closer and closer to falling in love. He fought it, she embraced it and when they tried to keep it relegated to their earlier arrangement, they both hurt. Ms. Ford had no problems reaching my emotions; she made me care for her characters. I wanted them to be happy but I understood the need to do what they did. It cleared the air for them, made them see clearly for the first time in their lives what they were chasing and what they should have been seeking all along. That revelation and the sweet reunion was pure romance. It made everything that came before worth it.

In the Hay is, hands down, a story worthy of spending time with. Every crazy deed, every smile, and every moment Drew and Nicolette spend in each other’s arms is a moment to treasure. This book totally entertained me and was very uplifting to read. If someone needs cheering up, reading In the Hay is the cure.

Julie Kensworth opens her door to more than a blizzard and greets two wayward cowboys. She realizes right away she’s headed straight for the eye of the storm.

Brandon Blake and Quinn Stewart are a long way from home. They’re looking for a warm place to hang their hats while they try to wait out the snow and ice, which continues to gain momentum.

Julie is an author and she’s not just the average writer, she’s one of the most notorious writers in the world. When Quinn and Blake figure out Julie is an erotic romance author, well, needless to say, their minds churn with all sorts of ideas, most of them geared toward how they can heat up the cold winter nights ahead.

“Oh Santa Claus…I have been such a good girl this year….”

Immediately I realized that my Christmas list has never been quite complete before. How could I have ever left off “Cowboys” from my wish list?

In Destiny Blane’s book Cowboys for Christmas, Julie Kensworth AKA: pen-name Carla Carrington, is an erotic romance writer who lives on her own (except for her fuzzy canine companion named Heidi) in a reclusive house in Tennessee. Julie is proud of the fact that she is prepared for almost anything. She has prepared for the unexpected crippling snow storm coming into the region. She is even prepared enough to help poor, elderly Mr. Thomas down the street. Julie is prepared for everything this storm can throw at her except for the fact that two devastatingly handsome cowboys just landed on her porch steps. With a terrible blizzard outside, what is a gal to do? You can’t leave them outside to freeze… All the effects and side effects will be same that is of the branded commander levitra regencygrandenursing.com and get it in the shortest time frame. The medication can be accessed online via many e-pharmacies. Its job is cialis prescription to sell you drugs to fix whatever might ail you.

The stunningly attractive Quinn Stewart and Brandon Blake were not counting on being stranded in a blizzard as they drove up to Tennessee to pick up some cattle. When they found themselves stuck in a ditch and no way to get out, they went to the closest house for shelter but when they set eyes on the sexy beauty named Julie, both cowboys are preparing to woo and romance the girl into their arms. What started as a competition to see who could win Julies heart soon turned into a fantasy come true for Julie. Finally she does not just write about erotic romance, she lives it. What more could a gal ask for at Christmas?

Destiny Blane did a great job at turning this sexy menage story into a mystery surrounding Julie and her missing father. Her story characters were intriguing and her words flowed into a fun and entertaining story. Her love scenes sizzled and I found myself rewriting my Christmas list early. I could picture the blinding snow storm as her words brought to life a colorful scenic depiction of a possible scenario that many ladies can only fantasize about. Despite the cold snow in her book, I found myself fanning as the heat of the story simmered to a boil. I will definitely pull this story out and reread it again closer to the holidays — after all what is not to love about hot, sexy cowboys stranded at your very door-step?

Looking for a menage romance with mystery and drama thrown in? These modern day cowboys definitely know how to please a lady in this well-written fantasy. I am really looking forward to reading more of Destiny Blaine’s books in the future.

Scarlett’s reality receives another sucker punch when she discovers her heroes are actually Texas longhorn-shifter cowboys who claim she is their destined, life-long mate.

The Lenox brothers have waited their entire lives to find the one woman they were born to share. Their newly discovered mate exceeds their wildest dreams. She’s gorgeous, witty, and her blood-red lips drive their bulls wild with passion.

But this Texas yellow rose has thorns. She demands outside contact, but the men insist on protecting her from the mysterious person who hurt her. They decide the only way to get their stubborn mate to stay is if they make sure she never wants to leave.

I wonder why the color red drives bulls crazy? I wonder what in the world a woman would do, if face with seven brother’s all-claiming to be her mate? I have never laughed so hard in my life while reading a erotic romance book. When the Lenox brothers find Scarlett hurt in the woods, they know she is their mate by her scent. What they do not realize is Scarlett Rose is a sassy rebel and it is not long before they learn this “yellow rose of Texas has thorns.” You would think that a Texas longhorn would be able to take on just about anything but these seven shifter brothers just do not know what they are getting into.

Scarlett cannot remember how she ended up falling off a cliff, or how she ended up on the Lenox ranch. The only reason she knows her name is from a locket around her neck. What a shock she has when she learns that the brothers can shift into longhorn but more than that, she learns that the sight of red brings out the beast in them.

I so loved this book. Don’t know of a woman that is crazy enough to take on seven men but the story is so refreshing and new with a wild but cute plot. The only thing I didn’t like was how it ended but I guess it does make a nice ending to the first book and a good beginning for the next book. So I will be adding Lola Newmar to my wish list so I can keep up with the series.

Former army-turned-ER doctor Grace McKinnon is through with going to bed with nothing more than fantasies and a yearning to resurrect her personal life. She’s determined instead to take the Cougar Challenge with a flesh and hot-blooded younger man. She discovers the perfect opportunity steaming up the curtain of exam room four.

Captain Mark Bennington has been locked and loaded—ready for action—since meeting Grace. He’s on a mission to heat up the Boston nights while on leave. This sexy older woman is lighting his way, fulfilling double-time every sex wish he’s ever made. But it’s going to be the toughest fight of his life to convince her to take a chance on more than just a fling.

When one can blend age and health issues with comedy and sex just right, a wonderful story emerges. Ms. Cato has done that with Locked and Loaded. A delightful tale that combines cougars, PTSD, Spanx and a wish list.

It all starts when West Point graduate, Captain Mark Bennington brings his friend, Sean Conroy, into the ER to have his hand checked by ex-Army Doctor Grace McKinnon. Grace immediately realizes that Sean is suffering from PTSD. Sean’s family doesn’t want to deal with this issue and just tells him to man up. This sensitive issue is dealt with in a very compassionate and caring manner. Sean’s PTSD plays an important role throughout the storyline. It also brings front and center Grace’s Purple Heart. With three tours overseas, her reluctance to speak of what happened over there once again rang so true to life.

Dr. Grace McKinnon is forty-two years young and single, but old in life experiences. Grace has a brother-in-law who thinks she should marry him. When the steroid course ceases, the body tries viagra tabs to establish homeostasis by hormonal changes. His grown children feel them same way, since Grace raised them when her sister died. I loved her ethics argument with herself in the ER when she was fantasizing about what she wanted to do with Mark. To forget about Mark, Grace decided to have one of my favorite things, a Johnny Depp movie marathon.

Her neighbor, Danny, adds levity when Grace is feeling down. Though Grace calls Danny a child molester for liking Orlando Bloom, she compares Mark to Orlando’s younger, blonder brother. Danny’s witty quips had me smiling throughout the story. I especially loved when Danny went through Graces books and came up with his “Ding, ding, we have a winner” comment.

Mark, who’s thirty, defends Grace when Sean calls her old enough to be his mom. There is also a running nickname of Dr. Mom given to Grace by Sean. Then again, if not for a dare from Sean, Mark may not have called Grace for a date. I also enjoyed how Mark was up front about the age elephant and got it out of the way at the beginning of their dinner date. There was a cute scene later that night about Grace’s Spanx, humorously comparing it to Kevlar armor. Ms. Cato also dealt with how to take it off in an efficient, realistic way.

When I read Locked and Loaded, I got not only a delightful Cougar book, but a sophisticated story that tackled many sensitive issues in a realistic and compassionate way. If you have not read any of the books in the Cougar Series, I highly recommend starting with this fantastic story.

Destiny Driven hasn’t used her real name in forever. It doesn’t exactly inspire professional confidence if you sound like a stripper. When she’s ordered to “sex up” former bestselling author Angel Robinson’s latest manuscript, armed with whips, cuffs, “classic” (who knew?) porn DVDs, that hits a little close to home. So Destiny heads to a remote cabin in Healey, Alaska.

Deployed to fight an inferno, Master Parachutist Lincoln Chapman’s veers off course, his chute fails, and his reserve opens at the 10,000 mark. The paratrooper lands in the pear tree adjacent to Destiny’s cabin.

The man’s massive and unconscious. The cabin’s cold and isolated, and Destiny’s no girl scout. Then Linc wakes to Destiny’s Madonna features, stripper body, sex toys, and 70’s porn DVDs. Just as they’re trying to leave, electricity fizzles. There’s only one way to stay warm. Luckily they have all the supplies they need.

Be it from Destiny’s tendency to voice her thoughts aloud, Linc’s desire to dominate and control, or the explosive sex scenes that occur when they decide to keep warm via the sharing of body heat. Sex toys and 70’s porn DVD’s aside, Ms. Carlo knows how to write some of the hottest sex scenes you’ll ever read and, as always, her heroes are oh-so-yummy. Of course, no story would be complete without a bit of drama, and thanks to some snotty secondary characters and a bit of intrigue, there is just enough tension to keep you cheering for Destiny and Linc.

If you’ve never read anything by the uber-fantabulous Jianne Carlo, this is an excellent story to start with. She has a wonderful voice and a talent for combining scorching hot sex with gut-busting humor that will have you panting one moment and snorting the next. Read one, and you’ll be hooked.

Welcome back to Asberek where a fledgling colony struggles in the isolated reaches of space. Danger stalks the colony and two people, thrown together by circumstances, may hold the key to survival on this distant planet.

Dr. Jenia Carstairs’ job is to study the chemical that permeates the atmosphere on Asberek. But Synthetic Endorphins Xstasy (or S.E.X.) is a problem. It creates increased sexual desire in humans, driving them wild with tantalizing erotic fantasies that beg to be explored. Dr. Carstairs is not immune to its effects and suddenly finds herself consumed with lust for an enigmatic stranger.

Tribunal soldier Paul Lestrano hunts a Rogue Tribunal who escaped to Asberek after an attempt to destroy the colony. His pursuit leads him directly into the path of a woman who holds both the future of the colony and Paul’s needs in her hands. As the chemical drives them to greater heights of sexual fantasies, Jenia and Paul explore each other’s most intimate sexual desires and find the taboo secrets locked in themselves. Their journey brings them to the brink of destruction, but self-discovery and ultimate desire are often found wrapped in the haze of sex.

This book was an impulse buy, and I am so glad I followed that impulse. Resisting Command was well worth it, and I will definitely be looking forward to more by this author. As a matter of fact, I have the books before and after this one on my Wish List!

Dr. Jenia Carstairs was a brilliant woman and I found so much to admire about her. She was wonderful to get to know, and I just loved her personality. The fact that she no longer fights her sexual leanings and even embraces them, despite how amazed she is at the ease with which she embraces them, just endeared her further to me. I loved that when she realized Paul had tried to pull a fast one on her, she went with it, and didn’t let her newness to the workings of Dominance and submission stop her. Jenia has become one of my favorite heroines, you just have to love a powerful woman who can still be feminine. I look forward to seeing more of her in the future.

When it comes to the hero of this story, I really fell for Paul Lestrano, and I’m sure you would feel the same way. He was an intriguing man, who was so very strong and kept me hot and bothered through the entire tale. Paul was a remarkable man who fought his sexuality tooth and nail until he met Jenia. I just adored watching how his mind worked as realization of what he needed slapped him upside his head. As he was pulled into a much different relationship than he had previously been in, or ever thought he would enjoy, I fell even more in love with him right along with Jenia. Paul’s emotional journey as he fought to save Jenia and the colony, all while discovering so much more about himself was fantastic to watch, especially considering his background.

The cast of supporting characters was engaging and added quite a bit of color to an already appealing read. I enjoyed seeing a “bad” guy get his beginning start at redemption, and have to say that I would just love to see more of Donny. Just for the sheer joy of getting to know all of these individuals better, I do feel the need to acquire the previous book or books in this series. If for no other reason than this, I have to recommend Resisting Command.

Jennifer Leeland has a truly marvelous take on Erotic Romance that has to be experienced. I thoroughly enjoyed Resisting Command with it’s intricate storyline that kept me guessing to the very end. I’m adding Ms. Leeland to my auto-buy list, and would recommend you do the same.

Now, determined to uncover the answers needed to alleviate her patient’s mind, Caitlyn ventures into a world of dark and forbidden pleasure beyond her wildest dreams.

Let me first say; I had heard of this short story, read the blurb on my own and had already added it to my wish list when I realized I could review it! Now, I have to say, I’m incredibly glad that I did, as I got the chance to discover and enjoy a new-to-me author that will now be added to my auto-buy list.

Review: Acting on Impulse

Acting On Impulse (Midnight Fantasies) (Blaze, 21)
By Vicki Lewis Thompson

Small-town girl Trudy Baxter is ready to take on New York City. She’s looking for excitement, adventure . . . and incredible sex! She wants to experience every little thing — and every type of man — the city has to offer. Her first target — sexy Wall Street hunk Linc Faulkner. Only, once she gets Linc into her bed, she’s reluctant to let him go…

Linc Faulkner has never met anybody like Trudy. She’s so spirited, so sexy, so damn uninhibited! She’s his every fantasy in the flesh. Only, Linc knows he’s just the first man on Trudy’s sexual wish list. So what else can he do but convince her that he can be *any* man she’ll ever want — and the *only* man she’ll ever need.

If you have ever had a chance to see for yourself the difference in people’s attitudes, especially the attitudes of people from the country or small town life and the cosmopolitan attitudes of people in New York City or Boston, you’ll chuckle reading this story.

Trudy Baxter is a woman who goes to the Big City to experience it all. She is willing to embrace the wildness of the city that never sleeps with the emphasis on not sleeping. She intends to have sex—and lots of it. She has the plan and the bed.

Linc Faulkner is a reluctant chaperone. He thinks he’s going to be bored out of his ever-loving mind but is going to watch over the newly arrived Miss Baxter as a favor to his best friend, who just happens to be married to Trudy’s best friend.

Linc finds himself not only far from bored but ends up way out of his comfort zone. Seems Trudy’s idea of embracing her sexual freedom in the big city is shopping at the adult toy store and role playing steamy fantasies that ties Linc up in knots. No, wait. Those were handcuffs.

There are BDSM scenes that were quite hot and stimulating. Heck, there’s even sex in a semi-public space which I would never have the brass ones to do. Never mind the elevator. Vicki Thompson cleverly sidestepped that worn-out ploy.

Ultimately, after every hot encounter has them panting for more from each other, Linc and Trudy’s emotions sit up and take notice. They end up running in different directions because of this complication.

Trudy wants no part of love. She has finally escaped her old life and is just getting her first taste of freedom. She doesn’t have to share a bathroom.

Linc wants no part of marriage. His parents’ relationship is dysfunctional and he has no other reference from marital relationships. He has become a master at avoiding the wedding trap.

However, unknown to both Linc and Trudy, all the extreme sexual fantasies they’ve been engaging gin so enthusiastically require one fundamental element. Trust. Trust paves the way for love and eventually the “M” word. How long can they hold out against it?

Who says the only way to a man’s heart is through is stomach? A few mirrors, a blow-up doll, and a bit of dominance can go a long way too. Acting on Impulse is a fun exploration on how sexual fantasies can enrich a relationship.

What Scares Me the Most as an Author by Dale Dallman – Guest Blog and Giveaway

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Dale Dallman will be awarding a $15 Amazon/BN gift card to a randomly drawn winner. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

As an author, what scares me the most is…

What scares me most about writing is putting the truth on paper and knowing that once it is published, I cannot stand beside every reader and explain what I meant.

That was especially true when I wrote Drive Down the Purchase Price of Your New Car. I spent years selling cars and managing dealerships. The business supported my livelihood, and I worked with many good people. But I also saw how easily a customer could get confused, pressured, or distracted from what a vehicle would actually cost.

Writing about those things meant opening a door some people in the business would probably prefer to keep closed.
There is a certain comfort in telling stories across a kitchen table. You can see someone’s expression, answer a question, or straighten out a misunderstanding. A book travels without you. People can question your motives, disagree with your experiences, or decide they do not like what you have to say.

That is uncomfortable.

I also worry about whether I have explained something clearly enough to help. A reader may be preparing to make one of the largest purchases of their life. If I am asking that person to trust my experience, I owe them plain language and useful information.

Still, the fear of criticism cannot be the deciding factor. I wrote this book because buyers deserve to understand the deal before they sign it.

If someone walks into a dealership better prepared, asks the right questions, and leaves feeling confident about their purchase, then putting my name on those pages was worth the worry.

Buying a car. Just those three words can conjure up a whole swirl of emotions.

For some, it’s the thrill of a sleek new model—the scent of fresh upholstery and the promise of open roads. For others, it’s a daunting odyssey filled with jargon, pressure, and the fear of an expensive mistake.

Wherever you fall, you’re reading this because buying a car is a significant life event.

We’ve all stood on the lot, squinting at price tags, decoding financing offers, and feeling the push to “act now.” It’s easy to feel outmatched—to wish for an expert at your side. Consider this book that expert: your trusted co-pilot on a journey that’s both exciting and rewarding.

This isn’t just a checklist—it’s a philosophy. You’ll learn to approach car buying with clarity and confidence, understand financing, master the test drive, and negotiate with purpose, ensuring that you walk away feeling like a winner.

Whether you’re a first-time buyer, upgrading, or simply overwhelmed by options, this book is for you.

So, buckle up. Get ready to embark on a journey that will not only lead you to the perfect vehicle but will also leave you feeling empowered, informed, and ready to hit the road with a smile.

Happy driving!

Now, as you choose a vehicle, you will be brought into the dealership, ushered into a cubicle, and do the cooldown. (A way to use the emotions from the showroom to sell.)

The full retail price allows the dealer a big markup. You can challenge it! The length of the contract (how many months), you can challenge it. The rate of interest, you can challenge it.

If you look closely at the sticker in the window, you will find that, in most instances, it lists several dealer-added “EXTRAS.” They vary in terms of name. Some call it “added items” that are automatically included with the vehicle, like mud flaps, color protector, seat protector, and other extras. Remember, all these items are hugely marked up. They try to get you to believe these can’t be taken off!

I love this one!! (ADP)!

It ranges from a couple of thousand dollars to several thousand dollars! ADP equals “Additional Dealer Profit.” Yep! They have the audacity to want the normal markup, the extras for the add-ons and a pie-in-the-sky “ADDITIONAL DEALER PROFIT!!”

Now, look closely: I visited a local dealer before I added this new forward. It wasn’t called (ADP), they have a soft name for it!! Just remember to look at ALL the items the dealer adds to the factory-issued Original Retail window sticker. ALL those things are ADDITIONAL DEALER PROFIT!!! Like I point out in the book. Challenging or flat-out refusing to deal with these items knocks the dealer off their game plan. It causes confusion, which, if you stick to your guns, SAVES YOU MONEY!

About the Author: Dale Dallman worked in the CAR business for decades. He started at Frontier Chevrolet in Billings, Montana. He worked the hardest part of the dealership, the USED CAR LOT! Frontier Chevrolet had 37 salespeople after it was bought out and renamed Denny Menholt Chevrolet. Dallman was #1 in sales from the beginning. Dallman invented the tool that made him famous, “THE BIRD DOG BUCK.” It was a copy of a $100 bill, with his picture on it. It had a section for the previous buyer to print their name, and for the potential new buyer to print their name. The idea was to send ten copies to every person who bought a car from him. It asked the buyer to give one to every person they thought might be interested in buying a car. The instructions printed on the fake bill were “Give this to a potential buyer. If they present it to the dealership and ask for Dallman, you will receive a $25 “Bird Dog” check! The potential buyer will get a $500 discount on their purchase.” It got to the point that he didn’t even need to stand at the door and wait for new walk-ins. He had a secretary who handled his appointments!

Dallman then went out to the West Coast. Here, he worked on new and used cars for a Chevrolet dealer in the car village in Olympia, Washington. He and his best friend (both from Billings) worked there. The idea for a book started there, but Dallman needed a broader cross-section of the car business, so he moved to Gilchrist Buick in Tacoma, Washington, to reach a different class of buyers. He did so well that Buick Motor Division had him do training videos that they used internally in National training.

Dallman decided to go to Germany on a contract with TOYOTA WORLD. The job was working the locations on the military bases where the military could buy cars and use them in-country, order one to be picked up at a dealer back in the states when they rotated home.

Dallman now does consultant work for buyers. He has instructed sales classes and trained both BUYERS and the salesmen, trying to get your money! Dallman has advised many dealers and salespeople. But he loves helping buyers outsmart the Dealers more!

Top Ten Tuesday: Books That Conjure Up Happy Memories

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

There are three things that bring to mind happy memories – food, music, and books.  Today, we’re focusing on books, with a slight diversion into food.

Little House on the Prairie series by Laura Ingalls Wilder.  These are the first books I remember truly loving as a kid (outside of Dr. Seuss).  I recently read Prairie Fires that goes into the history of the Ingalls family and the truth behind the books, which was eye-opening. Highly recommend for anyone who enjoyed Little House and the rest.

Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree.  My friend and I were buddy listening (we buddy read audiobooks) to this and absolutely fell in love with the whole world.  I had a wild idea after finding the author’s email address on his website.  I emailed him and told him the whole story and asked if he did signed bookplates.  He said yes and sent not just one for me but two for me and my friend as well.

Betty Crocker’s Cooky Book.  This is the food diversion I was speaking about.  Growing up, my mom baked like a fiend every Christmas and her #1 source of recipes was this cookbook.  My favorite always being the chocolate crinkles.  It was out of print for many years, and I finally sourced her a new copy off eBay about 10 years ago – only for it to go back into print a few months later.

Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall.  This is less happy memories and more happy book hangover.  It’s one of the first times I remember wishing I could erase my memory so I could reread something again for the first time.

Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn series by Tad Williams.  This series always makes me think of my late husband because he introduced me to epic fantasy via Terry Brooks.  He found this series and fell in love with it and made me read it as well.  It will always remind me of him, and I think that’s a good thing.

One for the Money by Janet Evanovich.  Say what you will about the Plum series, but these books never fail to make me laugh.  I had suggested this series to a friend of mine and told her that I could relate to Steph much too well.  She reads the book and says, “So, when were you last handcuffed, naked, in your shower?”  Which was not what I had meant – I had meant I related to the way Stephanie manages to fail upwards – but I think about this conversation whenever a new Plum book releases.

Those old Harlequin novels with the white covers.  Not one specific book, but any of them.  My mom forever had one tucked inside her suitcase sized purse, ready to hand anytime she had a few minutes of downtime.

‘Salem’s Lot by Stephen King.  I bought this book at a gift store in Salem, MA, while visiting my dad one summer.  While my relationship with my dad wasn’t ever an easy one, he, my sister, and I had a good time that trip.  And I found a love of horror novels out of it, so an extra bonus.

The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls.  I’d read this not long after it came out, after my boss gave it to me.  Several years later, my older daughter had to read it for school.  We bonded over the craziness contained within and how angry some of it made us both.

Ayoade on Top by Richard Ayoade.  This was suggested by my traveling partner on a trip to Cedar City, UT, for their annual Shakespeare Festival.  She’s a fan of the author and declared we had to watch View from the Top first since the book is basically talking about the movie.  Okay, no problem.  We watched the movie and then, the next day, while driving to Bryce Canyon, we listened to the audiobook.  I don’t think I laughed as hard all year as I did during that drive.  Me being in such a good mood is probably how I also got suckered into watching my first K-drama that trip, but that’s a whole other story.

What books bring back good memories for you?
