Top Ten Tuesday: Most Recent Highly Rated Books

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

Welcome to another edition of Top Ten Tuesday!  This week’s topic was originally supposed to be a throwback to a previous topic of our choosing, but was changed to best books of 2018 so far.  I decided to combine the two topics.  A while back I wrote a post listing the First Ten Books I Gave Five Stars.  This week I’m listing the most recent books I’ve reviewed and given a high rating.  I decided to only list books I gave 4.5 or 5 stars.  Since I don’t give out those ratings very often, this encompasses books I’ve read in 2018 and 2017.  Titles are linked to a blurb of the book as well as my review.

Winter by Marissa Meyer-A great conclusion to the series!

Comments

  1. What gorgeous covers — and a diverse bunch to boot — some of which I did not know about! Thank you for the heads up!!

    • Poinsettia says

I’m so glad you enjoyed my list!

One of the things I like most about reviewing for Long and Short Reviews is the chance to find some of these lesser known titles. They are really great! I hope you check out some of them.

Thanks for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  2. I’m looking forward to finishing the Lunar Chronicles!

    • Poinsettia says

I hope you finish them soon. I think the series got better with each book. Thanks for commenting. 🙂

  3. The Lunar Chronicles were great! Have you read Fairest or the short story collection?

  4. I love the cover of Justice Unending – so creepy. And Spirit Ridge looks awesome too. Glad you’ve had so many great reads!

    • Poinsettia says

Justice Unending was really good! Yes, the cover is a bit creepy, but I think it is less creepy once you know more about the story. I can’t say why without giving away a spoiler!

      Thanks for stopping by!

  5. Such pretty covers, I’ve not read any of those books though but I rarely read YA.
    Thanks for visiting my blog

    • Poinsettia says

      You’re welcome. 🙂

I’ve read a lot of YA recently. While I’ve always enjoyed YA, it dosen’t normally make up such a large portion of my reading. However, those are the types of stories I’ve been in the mood for recently.

  6. Great list! I loved Cress and am hoping to finish the series before the year is out. 🙂

    • Poinsettia says

Cress was great! I hope you finish the series soon. Did you plan to read Fairest? I read it between Cress and Winter and found it very helpful in understanding Levana better. Definitely a dark read, but interesting.

      Thanks for visiting!

  7. Awesome list. The Lunar Chronicles book are so good!

  8. It looks like a great list of highly rated books!

    • Poinsettia says

I’m glad you enjoyed my list. I like to bring attention to lesser known titles when I can. Thanks for visiting!

  9. I *still* need to read the Lunar Chronicles! Pretty sure I own all of the books, so now I must read them!! Plus, the fact that I hear all the good things about them makes them all the more appealing. 🙂

Thanks so much for visiting Finding Wonderland. 🙂

    • Poinsettia says

I was late getting to The Lunar Chronicles as well, but then it is pretty typical for me to be a bit behind. Plus, I like to wait for hype to die down a bit before I approach a book.

It is a very good series though, and definitely lived up to my expectations. Though I will say that Cinder felt like a warm up for the series. It got better with each book. So even if Cinder doesn’t blow you away, I still recommend continuing with the series. I really enjoyed it.

      Thanks for visiting. 🙂

  10. I love the Lunar Chronicles so much! Great list!

  11. I am a big fan of the Marissa Meyer Cinder series, too. In fact, I went to the launch party for one of the books, WINTER, and then didn’t read it right away because it is so long. I felt daunted by the length. Ha Thanks for visiting my blog. Come back anytime!

  12. Great list! I loved the Lunar Chronicles! They’re so good!

  13. The Lunar Chronicles! Loved that series so much <3

  14. I’ve not read any of these, but I’d like to try the Lunar Chronicles at some point even though I didn’t get on too well with Heartless.
    Amy x

    • Poinsettia says

I do recommend The Lunar Chronicles. It is a very good series. I will say that Cinder feels like the warm up to the series. It is good, but the rest of the series gets progressively better.

  15. Great prompt choice! I really like this as a blog post idea. I’ve only read Scarlet but all the other look really interesting too.

    • Poinsettia says

Do you plan on reading the rest of the Lunar Chronicles?

I hope you check out some of the other books on my list. As I said, they aren’t very well known, but I really liked them.

      Thanks for visiting. 🙂

  16. I really loved the Marissa Meyer series as well – Winter was my favourite. I keep meaning to read the novella (Heartless, or something like that?) but I just haven’t got round to it yet.

    • Poinsettia says

Yes, I believe it is called Heartless. I haven’t read that yet, but intend to at some point.

      Thanks for commenting!

  17. I keep meaning to read the Lunar Chronicles, but haven’t gotten around to it. Clearly, I should!

    • Poinsettia says

I was late reading The Lunar Chronicles as well. I have so many books I want to read and not enough time!

      Thanks for stopping by!

  18. Winter made it on my top ten as well! I haven’t read any of these except TLC

    Here’s our TTT: http://jennreneeread.blogspot.com/2018/07/top-ten-tuesday-favorite-books-of-2018.html

    • Poinsettia says

Winter was such a great ending to the series! I hope you check out some of the lesser known titles on my list. They are worth it!

      Thanks for visiting! 🙂

  19. Oooo yes!! I loved the Lunar Chronicles! Cress and Scarlett were my favorite in the series too! Awesome list ?

    • Poinsettia says

Thank you! I really enjoyed The Lunar Chronicles. I felt like it got better with each book.

      Thanks for commenting!

  20. Winter was such a great ending to that series! I love the way everything came together!

  21. I loved Cress, but I still have to read Winter! Hopefully I’ll love it too!

  22. My co-blogger is a huge Lunar Chronicles fan. I have not read them, though I talk about reading them all the time. Maybe one of these days.

    • Poinsettia says

I was late in reading them too. I kept hearing great things about the series, but didn’t get to it right away. I ended up binge reading the entire series.

      Thanks for commenting. 🙂

  23. Nice list! I also enjoyed Marissa Meyer books.

  24. Great list! I loved The Lunar Chronicles too!

  25. I have only read Cinder, but really would love to pick up the rest of the series. Marissa Meyer is a great author. Both Heartless and Renegades were amazing reads too.

    • Poinsettia says

I think The Lunar Chronicles gets better with each book, so I hope you check out the rest of the series! I haven’t read Heartless, but I’d like to.

  26. It’s always a nice change to hear about great, lesser-known books that deserve some love! I’ll have to check out Deidre Huesmann’s Modern Greek Myth series – it sounds intriguing. 🙂

    • Poinsettia says

Yes! Lesser known books deserve some love! One of the things I like about reviewing for Long and Short Reviews is the opportunity to discover books from smaller/independent publishers.

The Modern Greek Myth trilogy is very good. I hope you enjoy it!

  27. I’m a big fan of the Lunar Chronicles, but you’re right, I didn’t know any of the other titles. Dragon’s Trail and Magician’s Workshop both look intriguing.

    • Poinsettia says

The Magician’s Workshop is wonderful! I can’t wait for volume three to come out. Dragon’s Trail is very good as well. The author pays excellent attention to detail, and a sequel is coming out this year, I believe.

  28. I’ve only read the Marissa Meyer books from your list. I’m not familiar with the rest of the titles but I’ll have to check them out further.

  29. I’ve seen that so many love The Lunar Chronicles! Someday I must get to that series. Great list here, and thanks for visiting my TTT! 🙂

    • Poinsettia says

      You’re welcome! 🙂

Yes, The Lunar Chronicles is very good. I was late getting around to it too. I finally got my hands on the books and binge read them!

  30. Ooh Justice Unending looks good (and a little intense)! Autumn Falls just has a pretty cover. 🙂

  31. I need to crack open Meyer’s books, since I think I would like them if I just took the time.;)

  32. I still need to read WINTER– I’m such a FAIL at reading life. I love that series!!!

    • Poinsettia says

I hope you get to Winter soon! I really like how Ms. Meyers wrapped up the series. It was very satisfying.

  33. Justice Unending sounds interesting as does the Greek myth series. I don’t read much YA but I might look at these when time allows!

    • Poinsettia says

Both are very good, and I hope you do get the chance to check them out. YA doesn’t normally make up so much of my reading material, but I’ve recently come across some really good books that I couldn’t pass up.

      Thanks for visiting!

  34. The Lunar Chronicles! I’m pretty sure I have at least three of those books on my e-reader, so really must check them out soon.

  35. I still need to finish the Lunar Chronicles! I read the first book but never started the second one ?

    • Poinsettia says

I hope you read Scarlet soon! I feel like Cinder was a warm up to the series, but I really think the series improved with each new book.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  36. The Lunar Chronicles! I binge read the series when it was complete and loved them too!

    • Poinsettia says

I did the same thing! I’ve actually done that with a few series. It makes it so easy to keep track of everything rather then waiting a year or more for the next book.

      Thanks for visiting!

  37. Very beautiful covers on so many of these, though I have not read any.

    • Poinsettia says

I really like these covers as well. I do hope you check out some of these books if you have time.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  38. I like that you combined the topics. I started The Lunar Chronicles, but I never finished the series. I’m bad at finishing stuff.

    • Poinsettia says

How far into the series did you get? I think the series got better with each book.

Thank you for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  39. Ahh so glad you love The Lunar Chronicles too! They’re so much fun right?! I think Scarlet is my favourite book and I still have to read the short story collection but I will get onto that!?

    • Poinsettia says

Yes, The Lunar Chronicles are fun! I really liked Scarlet as well, mostly because Thorne was introduced. He’s definitely my favorite character.

      Thanks for commenting. 🙂

  40. Oooh, I need to go back and reread the first 3 books of the Lunar Chronicles so I can read the 4th and finish the series!

    • Poinsettia says

I definitely recommend finishing the series. Winter is an excellent conclusion to the series.

      Thanks for visiting!

  41. Great list! Glad you enjoyed the Lunar Chronicles so much – I have currently only read the first two books, but I really liked them, and so I can’t wait to read the final two books soon 🙂

    • Poinsettia says

      Thank you!

It is a very good series, and I think it gets better with each book. I hope you enjoy them. 🙂

  42. I’ve only read Cinder and I loved it! I’m not sure why I haven’t read the rest of the series?! Glad to hear you loved it!

    • Poinsettia says

I hope you continue the series! It is very good and gets better with each book.

      Thanks for visiting. 🙂

  43. I love The Lunar Chronicles series. 🙂 Great picks!

    Lauren @ Always Me

  44. Oh I haven’t heard of some of these but the covers looks very interesting. Especially Justice Unending.

  45. Great list! I can’t wait to finally start The Lunar Chronicles!!

  46. I have had The Lunar Chronicles on my shelf for years now, I so need to read them. Great list!

    • Poinsettia says

I was late reading them as well, but I really enjoyed them once I finally read them. I hope you like them when you get a chance to read them. 🙂

  47. I loved The Lunar Chronicles so much back when I read them last year! It opened the world of retellings, haha. I don’t even know how many other retellings I’ve read since, but TLC will always have a special place in my heart – that’s for sure.

    • Poinsettia says

I love re-tellings as well! I’m glad I finally got around to reading The Lunar Chronicles too. Ms. Meyer did a great job with those fairy tales.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

  48. I try to avoid hyped up books but the Meyer ones have tempted me for a very long time. They look so good!

  49. Oooh Dragon’s Trail sounds really good – I’ve never heard of it before! I might need to check it out. Love that The Lunar Chronicles are on your list.

    • Poinsettia says

I hope you enjoy Dragon’s Trail if you get a chance to check it out. I believe there is a sequel coming out soon.

  50. Elizabeth Spencer says

Oh, I just saw this post! Hi! I’m the author of Justice Unending, and I just wanted to say how flattered I was that my book made your list. It’s my first novel, so it’s still completely and utterly mindblowing when people actually recommend it. <3 I'm so glad you enjoyed it!

And aw, Spirit Ridge looks like it has a lot of heart! I might have to give that a look.

    • Poinsettia says

I’m glad I had the opportunity to read it. I really did enjoy it! Do you have any plans for a sequel?

Spirit Ridge is a wonderful book. I hope you get the chance to check it out!
