Top Ten Tuesday: Books on My Summer 2020 TBR

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

Wow, there are a lot of great books coming out this summer! How many of these titles are all of you also looking forward to reading?

You Say It First by Katie Cotugno

Release Date: Today

Why It Sounds Good: Small town romances feel very summer-like to me. And I love the fact that the main character works at a voter registration call center.

Sisters of Sword and Song by Rebecca Ross

Release Date: June 23

Why It Sounds Good: It’s always interesting to read about siblings who must work together to solve their problems. This is even more true in fantasy settings and when the siblings are both young girls.

Death in Her Hands by Ottessa Moshfegh

Release Date: June 23

Why It Sounds Good: Finding a dead body in the woods while out on a hike would terrify me.   Yet I’m also curious to see how the main character reacts and if she’d be more stoic in that situation than I would.

Opium and Absinthe by Lydia Kang

Release Date: July 1

Why It Sounds Good: The only thing better than a murder mystery is one where vampires are a possible suspect!

Burn Our Bodies Down by Rory Power

Release Date: July 7

Or What You Will by Jo Walton

Release Date: July 7

Why It Sounds Good: I’ve read about fictional characters living in their author’s imaginations before, but I’ve never read anything about one of them trying to escape. That’s a great plot twist.

Loveless by Alice Oseman

Release Date: July 9

Why It Sounds Good: It sounds like the main character might be aromantic. I’m making a conscious effort read more books about characters on the ace spectrum in general.

The Dark Tide (The Dark Tide #1) by Alicia Jasinska

Release Date: August 4

Why It Sounds Good: Queer fairy tale romance? Sign me up!

Lobizona (Wolves of No World, #1) by Romina Garber

Release Date: August 4

Why It Sounds Good: I haven’t read enough modern fantasy novels lately. This one sound particularly good due to the main character needing to sort out immigration issues while simultaneously trying to discover secrets about her past.

Star Daughter by  Shveta Thakrar

Release Date: August 11

Why It Sounds Good: How would a star create a child? I can only think of one other book that may have included this concept before and am fascinated by how it might work.

Lobizona is a most unusual title, but it does sound SO good! And whew, Or What You Will sounds so promising too! I think that’s the first time I’ve heard about a character wanting to escape their book!

  15. I hadn’t heard of Opium and Absinthe. It looks fantastic. I need to check it out!

  24. I want to read Lobizona, too. Just be careful with Death in Her Hands- it’s well written but if you get upset over animal cruelty/violence, I’d avoid this book. Ended up completely ruining the book for me.

    • That is something that bothers me, so thank you very much for the warning. I may not read that one after all then.

  25. Great list! Happy reading. Here is my TTT.

  26. Great list!!
I’ve had my eyes on Star Daughter for a while, partially because it sounds intriguing but mostly because that cover is gorgeous! ?
You Say It First and Sisters of Sword and Song are new to me though, and I’m so glad you’ve brought them on my radar! They sound exactly like what I would reach for!
I hope you enjoy all of these books!
    Happy Reading!! <3

  28. You have so many good books on here! I have to read Lobizona for a blog tour in August, I’m so excited because it sounds so good. I hope that you enjoy all of these!

  29. Love your list! I’m looking forward to some of these, too. Oh, I keep forgetting about Or What You Will, but I want to read that, too! It sounds really interesting. Dark Tide is one of my upcoming reads, too. I confess that I 100% added Star Daughter to my TBR because of the gorgeous cover. But also, it does sound good, so that works out well. xD

  30. Sisters of Sword and Song has such a pretty cover!

  31. I’ve seen “You Say It First” around on Goodreads/Amazon/social media quite a bit, but haven’t really looked up much about it on my own. I’ll have to give it a look, though perhaps before adding it to my TBR, I should read the books by Katie I already own to see if I like her style. 😉 Thanks so much for the Finding Wonderland visit last week.

  32. I really want to read Loveless too!
