I picked up this book because I was in the mood for a mystery with animals as at least side players. This book didn’t disappoint. I loved how the characters are devoted to their cat and dog. Plus, the cat was named Endora. How can you not like that? The writing flowed well and while I had to put the book down a couple times (I had to sleep!), it was easy enough to pick back up and I wanted to know what would happen next. I did get emotionally involved with the characters. I had to know what would happen and whodunit.

The mystery was tougher to figure out than I had expected, but that’s good. I tend to read mysteries to be entertained, so I’m not looking for the clues throughout. Others might unravel this story easier and that’s okay. It’s a complicated story, but moves fast and worth the read.

If you want a mystery that’s fun, then this is the book for you.

I picked up this book because I thought the idea of a mystery from the perspective of the dog might be fun. In that respect, it was. The dog’s point of view is certainly different than that of the human and I liked how the author wove that into the story.

I have to say, though, that this isn’t an easy book to read. The dog goes through some heavy stuff. He’s abused (not by his owner) and injured (again, not by his owner), but it’s hard to read. I don’t want a mystery where the animal is abused. If you don’t, then this might not be the one for you. It’s certainly difficult in spots.

That said, the mystery was intriguing and kept me paying attention to the end.

If you’re interested in a mystery that’s a little different and off the beaten path, then give this one a try.

I picked this book up because I love the idea of a basset hound mystery. The picture drew me right in. Cruiser, the basset, is a riot. He’s silly, roly-poly and everything a basset should be. The author wrote him in such a way I wanted to snuggle up on the floor with the big, silly pup.

There were other parts of the book that weren’t so snuggly. I’m all for a good mystery, but this one even I figured out whodunit before halfway. I didn’t figure out HOW, but who. The writing was a mix of drawing me in and easy to walk away from. Confusing, right? There were moments when I wanted to know more. I mean, the dog was a trip. Everyone who has ever had a dog knows the joys of tripping over them, the fun of having to give treats and the yum yum cabinet. In that respect, the author did a great job of portraying the dog and the life of the dog mom.

But then there were the parts of the book that were harder to get through. The mystery had some places to improve. In some places the pacing was a little slow and in others, it was a tad transparent. I wasn’t a fan of how the dog mom referred to the dog as being hefty often and the incident where the dog was accused of biting someone, but didn’t, bothered me. There are incidents when dogs do bite and it’s not great, but this was so quickly glossed over, it took away from the story to me. The heroine also seemed a little too perfect for me. She’s still grieving over her dead husband, but already has a boyfriend of sorts and gets to go to all these scenes of murder, but she’s only a reporter. I don’t know. It seemed a little too easy.

But the story itself is cute and the dog is the best. I loved Cruiser. If you’re interested in a dog mystery, then this might be the story for you.

Historical romances can be hit or miss for me. I don’t know the history enough to know if the details are correct and I’d rather have the story take me away. I’d never read anything by Cindy Holbrok, so when I saw this book and there was a cat on the cover, I had to pick it up. I was intrigued by the premise. He’s pretending to be dead in order to prove someone wanted to murder him. Okay, I can go along with that. Prudence, who is sort of family, is the only one who can figure out if he’s truly been almost murdered.

I had to admit, this one was a tad slow in spots. I put it down and had a hard time coming back to it. I guess it’s because it seemed to drag. I wasn’t as caught up in the characters as I might have liked. It’s nearly four hundred pages.

Prudence could be a bit of a prude, but I rather liked her lack of experience and her getting flustered when she ended up in compromising situations. It was cute. Lord Sayer…I’m still not sure how I feel about his character. I liked that he wanted to find the person who wanted to murder him. He had money and the family didn’t like how he spent it. But he tended to get extreme with his strolls at midnight and his mood swings were a little much for me. I also had a hard time with the way the cat was treated. He isn’t hurt, but it just wasn’t my thing.

That said, there is some amusing romance in this book and the mystery was different. I didn’t figure it out until revealed at the end, so there’s that.

If you want a historical romance that’s got some mystery and a super slow burn, then this might be the one for you.

I liked Sarah, too. There’s certainly chemistry between Sarah and Mac, so I wanted to know where that would go.

I liked Elvis most of all. He’s a black cat with an uncanny ability to tell if someone is lying. I love that. Cats can be so touchy with certain things people do and I liked this detail in the story. Plus, he’s cute!

I didn’t figure out the mystery until it was revealed at the end and I’m glad. I liked being taken on the ride through the story.

If you’re interested in a cute mystery with a touch of romance and cat, then this is a book to check out.

I’m a sucker for a book with cats. I saw this one had a gray tabby and I knew I wanted to read it. Marian Babson is a new to me author, so I wasn’t sure what I was in for with this book. It was certainly a ride.

The writing flowed well for the most part. Every so often, it’d get clunky, but it wasn’t enough to deter me. I wanted to know what would happen next and got emotionally involved with the characters. I wanted to know what would happen to Sally (Arthur’s cat), Sylvester (the imposter being pushed as Sally) and Sassy (yet another imposter). I mean, people went hunting for cats to try say they have Sally so they get the inheritance. It was nuts. But it roped me in. I didn’t want to see the cats get hurt.

I wasn’t wild about Annabel, the gossip hunter/faux interior designer/amateur detective. She seemed to drink an awful lot during the story and a lot while she was on the job. I don’t know. It just turned me off a bit as a reader.

That said, this was a cute read and the cats were adorable. I loved Sassy and her…er… sass. She was adorable.

If you’re wanting a mystery that takes a little bit to get into, but is worth the read, then this might be the one for you.

The writing kept up at a great clip and I got a real treat.

Megan’s been burned before and she’s got a daughter to consider. Then there are the critters. She wants them to be taken care of and not abandoned. I liked her determination. Whit took a little time to warm up to, but it was worth the time. He’s a prickly guy, but he’s not too far gone. I liked the chemistry when he and Megan were together. They were a true pair.

If you’re looking for a sweet story to warm your heart, but you need a little heat, too, then this might be just what you’re looking for.

I know when I pick up a book by Sabrina Jeffries that I’ll be transported to a different world and immersed in it. This book was no different. I loved reading about Regina and Marcus. I enjoyed going into their world for a few hours. The writing was crisp and drew me right in.

Regina wants to be sure her secret never gets out–she can’t read. She also wants to ensure her brother isn’t getting himself into trouble. Marcus wants to protect his sister and to prove he’s not the nasty person everyone believes him to be. How to fix this? Regina and Marcus get together. I liked their chemistry and their ability to dodge what they knew was coming–love. Regina could be a bit of a pain because she’s so determined to hide her secret. But I liked how she grew through the story. It was great to see her come into her own. Same goes for Marcus. He grew a lot, too.

If you’re looking for a tale that’s got a bit of Beauty and the Beast to it, then this might be the one for you. Recommended.

There is the occasional head hopping, which could be a tad jarring, but not terrible.

Tori wants to be in a marriage of love, not convenience. I get it. She wants to be loved and not by someone who essentially bought her. She’s headstrong and sometimes almost too much for her own good. I liked her willingness to get into trouble and to put in work. Then there’s Scarblade. Honestly, he’s a pill, but he could’ve been worse. I rather liked him. The attraction happened rather fast, but it’s romance and I liked it.

If you want a book that’s original, then this is the one for you.

I picked up this book because, well, I liked the guy on the cover. Then I read the blurb and decided this was something I needed to read. She’s losing her sight? He’s got land with wild Mustangs? Um, yes, I want to read this.

Pamela Britton does write a good story. It’s polished and flowed well for the most part. There were moments I thought were rather cliché, but it happens. The ending was a little too… fast? I don’t know. It was rather abrupt. Boom, done, kind of abrupt.

Still, Clint is a good character. He doesn’t want to admit he cares, but he does and he’s willing to go out of his way for her. I liked him. Sam had some issues I wasn’t thrilled about. She doesn’t want to be babied because of her condition, but she acts like it’s a big deal to hide it. It’s almost like she doesn’t give anyone time to process their reaction to it because she wants the situation to be normalized. Someone losing their sight is something you need time to process. The other thing that niggled me about this book was the loose ends. There were a couple story threads that just weren’t dealt with and it bugged me. I won’t give away spoilers, though.

The characters do have chemistry, so that’s good. I read this in the course of an afternoon and it was a good read. If you’re looking for something to pass the time, a beach read or something for a lazy afternoon, then this might be the one for you. Check it out.
