Jessica Tam needs security in her life, but her choices have left her feeling anything but. She meets Jelani and Marcario Bennett the night she decides to change it all. They are the ones to support her and make her feel safe, but she knows they are planning on going back to the Congo with Doctors without Borders.

Marcario and Jelani have come to Ecstasy Lake with an ulterior motive, besides spending time with their sister. Marcario has been dreaming of Jessica’s skin wrapped in his ropes and Jelani wants to capture the images on film. Jessica has changed in the past months, and they have to first convince her that she is perfect just as she is. Discovering they aren’t the only ones obsessed with her adds another challenge. Can they keep her safe and happy without becoming overprotective and scaring her off?

Jessica doesn’t just want to feel safe and protected; her animal needs to feel it. This book took my preconceived notions of “typical” shifter story and threw them right out the window.

I’ve never been in the situation Jessica finds herself at the beginning of this story but as I read her story and came to know her, I understood how she got to that point. I want the heroes and heroines to grow and mature within the story but I especially wanted Jessica to reach her potential. Ms. Davies did not disappoint. Jessica may begin this journey scared and timid but within time and the pages of this book she develops into a beautifully confident woman. Something else that set this book apart is the part the men play. They’re human. They don’t have supernatural abilities. They aren’t able to scent that Jessica is their mate but they’re drawn to her and they offer her things that lacked in all other relationships: trust, love, and acceptance. Sure these guys are good looking, but to me, that’s down right sexy.

Ms. Davies gives us a glimpse into Jessica’s potential strength/courage (not physical, but psychological) early on when she takes herself out of a situation that is truly unhealthy. She has plenty of incentive but it was clearly a hard move to make, considering her shifter animal.

Back to the two men who step in just when Jess needs a friend: Marcario and Jelani are the brothers of Mai from Book 1 in this series. They are honorable and courageous men who participate in the Canadian version of Doctors Without Borders. I have bucket loads of respect for the men and women who work this mission field so I had no trouble cheering for these guys from first meeting. I thought it was interesting that Ms. Davies only allowed Jess to spend mere hours with Marcario and Jelani before splitting them up for several months. I was curious to see how she would keep the interest between them alive after so brief an introduction. And, how would she bring them back together? And how would they feel about her being a shifter? These questions and more kept me reading. I needed to know! Something else that was new to me was the use of rope play in this book. I’m familiar and comfortable with BDSM play in books and had heard of the art of Shibari rope play but I had never read a story where it was a central theme. Ms. Davies obviously did her homework and utilizes the technique to enhance the “quality” time between Jess and the men. I’m not sure I would enjoy it but the way she describes the technique and effect the knots and bindings have on Jess was very satisfying.

Ms. Davies doesn’t come right out and tell what type of shifter Jess is until a little over half way through the book. There are some clever clues that had me guessing but once it was confirmed I had to smile. It makes sense and what a neat twist on the concept. Her personality, character actions, needs, it just fits.

Obsessed by Fur reads just fine as a standalone if you happen to read the books out of order. If you’ve read books 1 – 3 though you’ll be happy to see the familiar faces and get some updates. Also, we’re treated to a little preview of who gets their own stories for books 5 and 6. Fans of fellow Siren author, Heather Rainier may even pick up on some familiar names.

Ms. Davies has a pretty broad genre writing range within her backlist, with shifters being about half of her published works. It’s obvious in her writing that she enjoys the subject. This was my first trip to Extasy Lake but it certainly won’t be the last.

In one horrifying night, Bronwyn Finn lost her family, her kingdom, and the princes who had haunted her dreams for years. Left alone, years pass as she fights for survival and craves revenge against the uncle who took everything from her. But she’s never forgotten her Dark Ones.

A tragedy marred Lach and Shim McIver’s future. The future kings of the Unseelie Fae are obsessed with finding their promised wife—Bronwyn. Lach and Shim have never stopped believing that Bronwyn is their mate. She is the bond that connects the halves of their shared soul.

With the blessing of the renegade kings, Beck and Cian Finn, Lach and Shim begin a dangerous quest to find their bride before Torin and his hags take her life.

Across two planes, a war will rage. Lives will be lost. Love will be found. And the Seelie Fae will welcome their true kings home.

Happily Ever After…that sense of eternal completeness is so sought after but it can be elusive and yet men will kill to achieve it as well as die to preserve it.

Contemporary romance stories often center their plots around the journey to a HEA for the heroine and her hero (or heroes). It’s necessary and expected but, in my mind, the true beginnings of a cosmic and stellar HEA originated within the pages of fairy tales. There’s something that calls to the romantic inside me when the story involves a princess who’s lost her throne and the knights who work to win it back along with heart.

After reading all three parts of author Sophie Oak’s A Faery Story, a single word comes to mind: Epic. The elements are all there to create a story that spans time and several planes and the writing made it flow like a cascading mountain brook, smooth on the surface but teaming with so much life and vitality underneath. Beauty rounded out this trilogy with perfect timing and characterization. The heroes grew stronger as they came to understand the strength in their mate. The bad guys got what was coming to them and the secondary characters that had made wrong decisions for the right reasons were redeemed.

For a while I thought the final battle would happen in the remote village of Aoibhneas. It seemed appropriate. This quirky, and yet somehow blissful, little mountain hideaway had been a thorn in Tiron’s side since he stole the throne. If anyone could aide the Seelie and Unseelie kings and their queens in reclaiming their rightful kingdoms it was these people. They know family. I’m intentionally being a little vague here in case someone isn’t familiar with Ms. Oaks other books. But if you love her contemporary stories as much as I do, prepare to shed a few tears. No she doesn’t kill off any of the beloved counterparts but she expands on their lives beyond what we knew and personally my heart quickened in more than one place.

One of my favorite characters of the entire trilogy actually had her story in Book 2: Beast. I just adore Kaja. She proved her cleverness and devotion to her new family and those she loves over and again. I was proud to see the part she played in Beauty. She in no way overwhelms or takes over the story but it would have been less without her.

I have to think Ms. Oak has plans to continue writing stories on the Faery plane. She begins a sub-story within Beauty that simply must be told.

This is an easy recommend to anyone who loves romance, strength, growth, redemption and of course, happily ever afters. I highly recommend the stories be read in order for the most enjoyment but most of all I simply recommend they be read. These are not stories you simply read, these are stories you experience.

Valentina Petrova leaves Russia after much personal tragedy to begin a new life after an old college friend in Colorado offers to help her. Already an American citizen, Valentina just needs help navigating the landscape and a financial boost to get started.

Wyatt Smith, an FBI agent, and Dillon Jones, an ER doctor, are tasked with telling Valentina that the man she counted on to help her is now dead. They offer her sanctuary and help her acclimate to American life. They also give her a peek into their unbridled lifestyle.

When she tries to collect the unclaimed money from her college bank account, she finds out it’s been flagged and the FBI detains her. Will Wyatt be able to save her? And when her past catches up in the form of a Russian ex-fiancé that her father wanted her to marry, will Wyatt and Dillon lose her forever?

What could be better then having not one but two sexy saviors when you are at your lowest?

In my estimation, not much. Valentina has had a rough decade, and just wants to start over. Her mother dies when she is young, her dad has some very bad connections then tries to control her life using said connections. To top it off, she has more personal tragedy over the course of the years leaving her utterly alone in the world. Well, except for that college friend in Colorado who reaches out and offers her a home, security and above all friendship. Having no better options, Valentina is bound for America.

Of course, once she gets to her destination everything falls apart. Dillion and his best friend Wyatt meet the women that they have to deliver bad news too. Once they tell her that the man who was set to be her saving grace is dead, she faints. Good thing Dr. Dillion is there to save the day. After things settle, Dillion and Wyatt fight off their instant attraction to the Russian bombshell. But it’s not just her beauty that pulls them in. She’s spunky, mouthy and prideful, all characteristics that scream ‘difficult’.

And so the journey begins with men offering Valentina a place to stay until she can get on her feet, help finding work, and even access to an old bank account she had during her college years in America. Pride and past experiences force Valentina to be wary of their offer, but between her attraction for the gorgeous men and sheer desperation has her accepting their help. Deciding to follow her aunt’s mantra and ‘live for today, because tomorrow might bring trouble” Valentine decides to give into her own feelings toward the men and takes seduction into her own hands.

The things I liked about this book was how strong of a character Valentina was and that stayed true throughout the entire book. Its easy for a person to lose their morals in a world gone bad, but she held tight to her beliefs and her pride. But what I loved most was that despite her troubles, she was still a woman and went after what she wanted. And really, let’s be honest: a hunky doctor and a studly law man? Who wouldn’t want that?

My biggest problem with this book was that the men didn’t have their own voices for me. Obviously they were separate characters but their thought process and actions felt as if they were the same. And for me that pulled me out of the story. The men didn’t feel as fleshed out as characters to keep pace with Valentina. However, Clay who was a secondary character felt like he would have been a nice fit for her. No pun intended, really.

I had not read the previous five books in this series, yet didn’t feel left out of anything. There were a few mentions of previous couples but nothing that was confusing. After reading this book however, I will be adding the rest of the Double Rider Men’s Club series to my TBR pile. It was fun and sexy read overall, especially the ending and a place called “The Stadium”.

Bailey Knox knew the good price she paid for her new bar came with consequences, but she didn’t count on nearly getting killed before she could even move into the place, which was also her new home.

Waking up to the two complete strangers who have saved her, she’s alarmed at her overwhelming response to both of them. Marcus Brand and James Archer are different from any men she’s ever met, but she didn’t realize how different. Shape-shifters don’t exist. Then they tell her something even more remarkable. She is their mate.

She fights the emotional pull, even while reveling in the passion that only seems to grow stronger, passion that just can’t be ignored. Neither can the attacks. When black panthers save her life once again, the trio must hide the truth from the rest of the world while struggling to come to grips with their own destiny—and overcoming the danger surrounding them.

There’s an undeniably intoxicating scent blowing in the wind that can mean only one thing to a pair of black panthers, their mate is near and she swings a mean bat!

I’ve always enjoyed a good shifter story where the hero (or heroes) find their fated mate. There’s just something infinitely sexy about the idea of knowing your true love, your destiny, by an unmistakable scent, very much like a pheromone. That mysterious and undeniable draw is the foundation of this first book in author Leah Brooke’s new series. I use the word “foundation” because, as the first book in the Black Panthers series, it sets the tone and direction for the books that will follow.

Ms. Brooke sprinkles in bits of the panther’s history throughout the book but it’s obvious she isn’t revealing her whole hand in this first story. Someone attacked the panther pride when the boys (I met nine total but there may be more) were all very young. If it hadn’t been for Ed and Alice Tremaine they would have been massacred along with their parents.

Ms. Brooke’s writing is so sharp and vivid. The story morphed from words on a page to a movie in my mind within a few pages. This book is very character driven. Bailey and Marc are both struggling with the idea of not having a choice in the matter of the “fated mate” bond. They enjoy, and I do mean thoroughly enjoy, the effects of the mating but simply can’t accept that it means more than sexual attraction.

Bailey is terrific as the female lead. Her history gives her an automatic distrust of anyone trying to bend her to their will. This is a perfect foil for two dominant men who go to great lengths to protect their mate.

James and Bailey connect on a level that she and Marc have a harder time finding. James realizes pretty quickly the difference as well as the trigger. It was one of those sweet “aww” moments when he and Bailey discuss it.

Marc is determined and stubborn to say the least. He and Bailey are constantly butting heads and those high emotions inevitably lead to a bed. I could totally empathize with his desire to have a choice in the whole mating thing but at the same time I was relieved when he finally understands the choice was his all along.

The supporting characters round out this story nicely and do their job (supporting without stealing the limelight) flawlessly. Ms. Brooke pairs off and sets up the future books in this series with the introduction of the other “brothers” in the pack. Together they offer Bailey the one thing she missed growing up and the one thing she thought never to have, a family.

If you love getting in on the beginning of a series, you won’t want to miss Panther’s Prey. Ms. Brooke is known for her world building and it’s easy to get absorbed in this book as well. The panthers are just learning the extent of the power in mating and it’s an adventure I’ll gladly join them on again and again.

What’s more, Wallace is Blue’s mate. They meet, fall in love, and have their trials to overcome, namely a mad scientist and an out for revenge father.

The plot line is interesting. This is the first time I’ve seen a series that basis shape shifting abilities on the position of the sun and moon, what events were happening and where the person was in the world as a determination for what animal, bird, insect, etc shape they have. Unique is definitely getting harder to find. The story moved a little fast. At fewer than 40,000 words, it is a quick read but I would have liked to see a bit more. Events did not have as much detail as I would like. The romantic scenes were definitely detailed but even they felt a little hurried.

I also would have loved a bit more character development. It was there, it was smooth, but there could have been more especially since this is the first book in a series. It sets the tone for what to expect with the rest of the book.

Overall, the story was good, well thought out, unique, a quick read. The plotline was consistent as was character development if a little shallow on the details. I would definitely read it again, definitely read future books in the series and definitely recommend it for anyone tired of the usual shape shifter, paranormal romance routine.

Ali Baker is a corporate executive with a house in an upscale suburb of Houston. The only thing missing is the right man to share it with. But a lifelong struggle with weight has left her with low self-esteem that keeps her from taking a chance on love. A new fitness plan gives her a slimmer figure, but she hits a plateau before reaching her goal. Ali joins the local gym to rev up her metabolism, but she has no idea her love life’s about to go into overdrive, too!

When she meets British trainer Daniel Wells, the heat between them sizzles. They begin a torrid affair that takes them both by surprise. Then Ali discovers he hasn’t been completely honest with her, and old insecurities threaten to unravel their relationship. Daniel must fight to regain her trust, and he’ll do anything to become the one addiction she can’t resist.

Have you ever been self-conscious about your body? Ali Baker had serious body image issues and she had plans for attacking them with lots of exercise and some unexpectedly sexy calorie-burning extracurricular activities thrown in.

Ali is a corporate accountant who owns a home in Texas. She’s decided it was high time to start living her life fully without excess weight, when she literally ran into Daniel Wells at the gym she chose to join. Daniel is handsome and apparently more of a catch than meets the eye. He’s British and lives a double life, sort of. I loved reading about both of these characters. Ali has her priorities straight and is willing to work hard for anything that she wants. Her dedication and perseverance is very admirable. Daniel is also hard working and talented, but burning the candle at both ends. He is passionate about his work, his family, and Ali.

Although they seem to be a great match, Ali and Daniel encounter some obstacles in their relationship, especially with Ali’s tenuous confidence in her newfound slimmer self. I cheered for her when she and Daniel worked together to right an injustice. Score one for the girls who were blessed with less than perfect figures!!!

Ms. Chandler’s writing is promising, with good narrative and not overly descriptive or overly telling. However, I did find it a little too perfect of a situation with the hero being so successful. I love men who have a British accent, but everything with Daniel seemed to be all that was on a checklist for the perfect man. Still, the story was a great escape for me, reading about Daniel and Ali’s passionate encounters.

Perfectly Imperfect is the bigger woman’s answer to all the good looking women who look down on them. I highly recommend this book to women who are working on getting their inner slimmer selves recognized or for those who just need a great story with some hot scenes.

Sparks Fly! is a sexy little romp that intimately reacquaints readers with all the beloved characters in the entire series and introduces Seth and Jayne, the main characters in the upcoming twelfth Divine Creek Ranch novel entitled His Tattooed Virgin.

Who doesn’t like fireworks on the Fourth of July?

Ms. Rainier aptly named her newest addition to the Divine Creek Series. The sparks fly not only in the sky but on the pages of this fun novel.

The book starts off with the series matriarch, Grace Warner and her equally sassy sister Charity, as they try to strong arm their cousin Jayne into joining the Independence Day activities. She is blissfully unaware of her cousins’ match making scheme, and decides to join in on the fun. While working, she bumps into, literally, the other victim in Cupid’s game, Seth. Sparks fly (see what I did there?) when these two collide and without any extra help.

The rest of the book touches base with all of the couples from the series. The author did a really great job of staying true to each couple or group as I saw where they are in their relationship after the foundations of each relationship that readers were originally introduced to have grown since their respective tales. I saw how married life is faring for most, the balance and compromise of having multiple partners, a big announcement for some, dealing with emotional issues for others, but two things stood true for everyone. One was the love that was expressed:  overwhelming and sweet, yet perfect. At times I worried that the love was going to ooze off the page and smother me, but Ms. Rainier has a wonderful ability of keep balance on the page. Which brings me to number two, sex. Lots and lots of wonderful, naughty, emotional, bonding, dirty sex. My personal favorite, and I am sure other fans as well, was the scene with Charity and her husband Justin. Two words: Viking marauder.

Again, the author did an excellent job of teasing us with the next pairing for the series and whetting our insatiable appetites for more of our favorites. I am eagerly anticipating Jayne and Seth’s story.

Getting his life back together is not an easy task for Clayton Jennings, a rodeo cowboy who was accidentally outed as gay in front of his fiancée. He finds himself alone, drunk, and beaten up on a daily basis.

The only way to do that is teach the cowboy who has lost everything to accept that maybe he’s not a charity case after all, but the object of a man’s desire, adoration, and love.

Sometimes knowing the difference between a strong hand and someone who intends to harm can be hard to differentiate. Clayton’s story helps display the difference between the two in a way that kept me on the edge of my seat and wanting more. Part of this is because I can see so many others stories in his.

Jesse cannot stand to watch Clayton continue to destroy his life, just because he feels as if he deserves to be punished. Jesse’s strength is awe inspiring and made me want to wrangle up the first cowboy I see. Even his silence says more than a ten page letter. Jesse’s willing to give Clayton what he needs, which may not always be what he or Clayton wants. His ability to see what’s needed and give it to Clayton was another characteristic that I envied. If more people had this ability, relationships would be much easier in real life.

With two completely different personalities, Clayton and Jesse’s story kept me mesmerized. I even enjoyed how their past played a role in their present. They had a unique connection that was evident from the beginning of the story, and made me want to learn more and more about them individually as well as together.

The supporting characters and additional subplots also kept the story entertaining. Whether it be the town bigot or the ex fiancé, it seems as if both men had plenty to deal with. This added an element to the story that helped to bring these characters together, as well as kept them apart at times. It created a more dynamic and realistic story line.

This is my first story of this series, but it most certainly will not be the last.

Being a walking wet dream isn’t anything out of the ordinary for cowboy Drake Strong. Yet he still has to do what his mama tells him, including towing Charly to a mechanic’s when her car dies. Expecting a stuck up book worm, he’s knocked on his butt at the fiery minx he meets. The sparks fly right away between the two. Once Drake claims her as his own, because that’s what all cowboys seem to do, he just hopes she’s as open to the idea of being with his twin and younger brother. That’s right, stud muffin Drake has an identical twin!

Charly is so closed off that the moment Drake gives her his attention and shows her real affection she can’t help but open up. The trauma she went through changed her for the worse and she just needed someone to be there for her. And when Drake gives her all he has, she gives him something special in return, including her heart.

But Charly and Drake have more to deal with then falling in love. First there are Drake’s three older brothers who are a unit much like Drake, his twin and younger brother. Each unit is looking for a woman of its own and Drake knows his older brother would love Charly as much as he does. The minute Heath sets eyes on Drake’s woman, out come the claws. Secondly, a dark figure from Charly’s past comes crawling into town with menace on their mind. We’ll have to see what the plan is for this person, as we see very little of him here.

Chloe Lang creates strong characters and plot, and I find myself looking forward to the next move they will make. The people on the page are flawed, but likeable even when they make decisions that left me scratching my head. Charly is smart, she has a Masters degree afterall, so I was surprised when she made a decision that didn’t seem in line with her character. In a way it kept me reading, to find her motivation. Drake as the hero has a heart of gold but I found him to be a tad pushy, but maybe Charyl needs “pushy” to step out of her comfort zone. There’s a lot going on in this short story.

This book is a first in a series, so I’m going to assume this is the first of at least three books if not more. Each book would be focused on one man and Charly, this being Drake and Charly’s story. It’s not required to read the Wilde series before picking up this book, but you will need to read this book before picking up book two in the Strong Brothers series.

All in all, I’m looking forward to seeing what happens between the brothers and what Charly will decide in the end. Sexy cowboys, or living your dreams? Tough call for any girl I think! If you are a fan of menage romances, then you surely won’t be disappointed here.

When Lia Constantine’s father dies suddenly, she’s shocked to discover he’s left casino debts totaling more than one million dollars. Unless she sells the family home, making herself homeless, she cannot repay the debt.

Under difficult circumstances, self-made billionaire Jake Benetti, owner of the Arabian Nights Casino, meets the incredibly beautiful Lia Constantine for the first time. As soon as he sees her, he knows she holds the key to unlocking his broken heart. He cannot allow this highly alluring woman to slip through his fingers. Caught between the past and the future, he makes her an offer she simply can’t refuse—until Lia repays her father’s gambling debts, he owns her, mind, body, and soul.

Lia is into the BDSM lifestyle as much as Jake is, but with their D/s relationship beginning to blossom, will the money drive a wedge between them? Can they ever find happiness together?

Jan Bowles is a new author for me, but I knew as soon as I read the first few pages I was going to enjoy the modern ring of the story, the vivid characters and the picture painted for them to exist in.

Lia Constantine’s day just doesn’t start out like usual; not only is she bundled against her will into a limousine and driven to one of The Strip’s most fantastic casinos, she also comes face to face with the most infuriatingly gorgeous man she has ever met. Why infuriating? Because he has a hold on her, a monetary hold, and Lia’s life is turned upside down as she has to face the debts her father left and battle against the overwhelming attraction she feels for Jake Bennetti. But it seems the attraction is mutual and true to his gambling personality, Jake is prepared to put everything on the line to win Lia, especially when he realizes she enjoys the same D/s fun in the bedroom as him.

I liked Lia from the beginning, she’s the sort of girl you could imagine being friends with. She’s got a history that includes grief and heartbreak but she is feisty and strong and re-building her life. She also isn’t the sort to take any nonsense and this made seeing her submissive to the delectable Jake all the more fun as a reader.

Jake was a perfect match for her, and I liked how the author used the two lead characters grief as a catalyst to bring them together, it could have been cheesy but it wasn’t, it tugged my heart-strings and gave grounding to their emotions and actions.

So on to the sex, yep the sex was there in bucket loads and it was hot, hot, hot with a good sprinkle of BDSM thrown into the mix. I didn’t feel short-changed at all as the characters went from one sweaty scene to the next, it was well placed and each time they were climaxing together, it added new layers to their relationship. One of my favorite parts of the book is when Jake takes Lia for dinner and spots the BDSM jewelry she is wearing, I didn’t see that coming but it made so much sense to the characters. I would just add one word of warning here though, if you are squeamish about clitoral piercings being tugged and tugged then you might want to skip a couple of lines in the middle of one scene, but if that’s your thing, well, you’re onto a winner.

Claimed for the Master’s Pleasure was everything I hoped it would be; well-rounded characters, steamy sex within a D/s relationship and a romantic plotline. If you want a book with a masterful hero and a feisty heroine who is willing to hand over everything to her man, then this might just be the book for you.
