Love takes courage. Loving two men takes twice as much.

At seventeen, Tommy Ambinder was Annie Parsons’ first love, the center of her world. Almost. There was a secret spot reserved for Judah, Tommy’s elder brother. On the day she discovered Judah wanted her, as well, the aftermath drove Annie out of town—and a wedge between the men she loved.

Now, haunted by guilt, Annie has returned to Melgrove, Montana, with one hope in her heart—that twenty years has overcome the rift between the Ambinder boys. If they’ve mended fences, maybe she can repair her own life too.

Tommy’s missed Annie all these years, but he never realized how much until one glimpse reignites the passion that time hasn’t quenched. Something else hasn’t changed, either—half of her heart still belongs to Judah.

Now, with Annie poised to run again, history is threatening to repeat itself—unless one of them has the courage to break free of the pattern and blaze a new trail that’s wide enough for all three.

Even more emotional is when the seventeen-year-old girl, Annie, is torn between the love she has for Tommy, her best friend and childhood sweetheart, and her love for his older brother Judah who has always stood on the sideline watching over them. When she realizes that she is tearing the brothers apart she runs away from home not wanting to be the one to cause a wedge between the two. Now, twenty years later she comes back home to see if the brothers have mended fences and moved on with their lives.

I loved the plot and the idea of two brothers growing up and falling in love with the same woman. The emotional scenes played out in the book where heart felt and believable. The characters were all loveable and you cannot help but wish for the best for Judah, Tommy, and Annie. The scene changes were a little jumpy in places and I had to go back and re-read a time or two to see if I was in the present or the past but it did not take a way from the story itself.

The sex scenes were hot with twenty years of pent up feelings, but did not go overboard or take away the overall emotional feeling of the plot. They just added spice to the meal. I was disappointed that the book was a short story — I wanted more! — and I would have like to have seen the plot played out more, but other than that, it was well-written and a story I would definitely recommend.

Boys Next Door is worthy of my keeper shelf and a nice addition to my library, something that will be read again some time down the road.

Maya is a half human, half merman who has decided to attend the fertility-virility rite and learn more about her merman heritage. The rite is meant to help mermen find their perfect mates, but Maya is only interested in using it as research.

Tam and Kessen are participants who are searching for their third. They are drawn to Maya and she to them. But she refuses to acknowledge the bond and runs. Tam and Kessen must pursue her through her dreams if they hope to make their love a reality and prove they are the right men for Maya.

This is an interesting look at the mating habits of the merpeople down in the depths of the ocean. They sure have an erotic way of finding mates and it’s one I’ve never heard of before.

It’s also pretty darned hot because this book packs in loads of different combinations and ways to find the ultimate forever mate. Initially a reader will meet Kessen and Tam. They find each other first and I will say that because of their social order and culture parameters, there isn’t a lot of internal angst, at first. The potential for a romantic connection is clear with them and I enjoyed reading about them.

It’s when a reader meets Maya, the heroine, that all the conflict and mild drama starts happening. She’s a young woman who has a close tie to her family – perhaps a bit too close even for her age. In that I mean that I found it a bit odd for her to still call her father ‘daddy’ and not to have shortened it to ‘dad’ at this point in her life. It’s almost like she has no real ambition to do much and is in a sort of limbo. Sure, she has a job that she acts responsible about but there just something…off. However, I also found out that she’s been pretty much sheltered from all aspects of merlife and it lends itself to a believable conflict. If a person, never mind a character, is not tested by the struggles and challenges in life, they don’t develop a personality of note. Even when there is some sort of light drama in the beginning, I didn’t get the impression that it made much of an impact to Maya. Yes, she said the words, but I didn’t feel the force of it. I was left with the belief that Maya’s character was given just enough for readers to enjoy a light sensual and sexual romp using a combination of unique and tried and true plot techniques.

I found the strongest writing to be between Tam and Kessen. They acted like men although one has a wild side and I got that impression from the quality of friends he has. Just wait until you get to the part describing the stage; it’s a visual that had me giggling.

I did appreciate the fact that Maya loved her family. I liked the idea that Kessen and Tam’s relationship wasn’t all sunshine and roses because it gave them more depth. I also liked some of the magical ideas of how merpeople can walk among us. It shows a great imagination.

Rite Men for Maya is a good read for those days where a reader wants a quick story with an erotic bent in an unusual locale. It delivers in that area. I was entertained throughout and was satisfied with the happily ever after.

Merry Holiday has fallen on hard times. After the death of her mother, Merry learns that everything has been left to a sister she doesn’t get along with, including the house she has lived in most of her life. With her confidence shattered and her heart in tatters, Merry finds herself looking for a job and a place to live. When she interviews for a position as a live in housekeeper, she finds the reclusive Thorne Mordeaux, one of the hunkiest men she’s ever laid eyes on.

Thorne Mordeaux has a secret. He’s Darwaedd royalty from the mythical island Sayrea. He’s left his island to escape the shadow of his overpowering brother Dax and the heartbreak of a lost love. Thorne falls for his sweet new housekeeper and as the winter grows colder, his feelings for her heat up, but he’s doesn’t want to scare her off with his advances.

A week before Christmas, King Dax makes an unexpected appearance to convince Thorne to come back to their island. It’s obvious to Dax that his brother and Merry are in love, and just as obvious — neither of them has the faith to act on that love. With the help of some Christmas Magic, Dax makes it his mission to give fate a hand and bring them together.

I like spicy holiday fare and this little book fits the bill when a reader is looking for a quick fix of fun and frolic.

What I liked most about this book was its gradual build up of sensual tension. I liked the interplay between Merry and Thorne. She yearns but feels it’s not her place to do anything about it. I found it very funny that for all of Thorne’s expertise with words he just can’t ever seem to say the right things to Merry. It’s that whole miscommunication thing between men and women and I think the author had a fun time exploring that quandary. I can tell you that I certainly had a good time reading it.

All the combustibles are there between the hero and heroine, they just need something to jump start their relationship, you know, a match to start their mating fire? That turns out to be a close family member of Thorne’s and he has a bit of unsettling news to impart upon the pair of would-be lovers. It doesn’t stay a stumbling block for long because it’s the impetus for just what erotic romance readers will be looking for when they dive into this tale. I think they’ll be pretty pleased with it.

I will say that the story seems fluffy in nature, by that I mean that there’s not too much delving into Thorne’s intriguing cultural back ground. It’s sort of glossed over because the focus in this story is on the relationship between Thorne and Merry and not much else. It’s a streamlined romance and for readers looking for that type of formula this book should deliver. In fact, it was just enough to be fun and entertaining without giving me any kind of stress over character angst. Sometimes, I need that amusing and enjoyable shot in the arm, a happy diversion from the stress of the holidays, and Merry’s Christmas Ménage is just what the doctor ordered. Well, if there was a doctor whose prescription was for me to read a lighthearted and optimistic romance because if so, I totally enjoyed the cure. I think others will too.

The last gift Jenna expected on Christmas was two lovers who make her explore her sexuality.

Jenna Monterey has inherited a plantation home that has seen better days. When she hires a restoration crew, she doesn’t expect to be drawn to their lead team member. But there’s just something about Jake that makes Jenna weak in the knees. She starts to have erotic dreams about Jake and someone named Matt, a man she’s never met before, dreams that leave her trembling with desire. Are they an omen of what’s to come? Or does she really just need to get laid?

This story is a short shot of volcanic loving sure to inspire hot flashes and naughty dreams just in time for those holiday nights.

This story pretty much has the erotic aspect cornered. I got to meet Jenna, the lady who inherited this big old house that, like a Cracker Jack box, has a surprise inside. She’s a woman who has been lucky in life but is at a crossroads. What better thing to do than look at her inheritance? She finds out that the latest residents have been mice and other dusty things so it’s time to clean up. And that is when the fun begins.

Smith wastes no time in having the reader dive right into the sexual hi-jinks. It’s a very sensual book and it explores some interesting couplings. I believe that a reader has to accept that the author has bent the rules of the paranormal world just a bit to make this romance work. I also found that because this is such a short book the crunching of the inevitable physical culmination was a bit rushed leaving me with a feeling that I was swept up in a tornado. I liked that Jake’s character was included but the how or the why were not. It left me with a lot of questions as to how it even came about. Why was he so accepting? What in the world happened that plans were made and had they perhaps done this before? I really would have enjoyed the planning of it all but as it is, a reader gets the delicious results.

I think the dialogue was fine, the characters were basic but good enough to make the story enjoyable and the physical love scenes were steam inducing and very well written. For readers who are looking for a quick hot read that will leave them grabbing ice cubes I believe this story delivers on all counts. It certainly was fun to read.

The ending tied up all of the loose ends for Victoria and her men with a beautiful HEA but there were other background pairings that didn’t quite seem finished off. Hopefully there will be more from this universe as I loved this world and was sad to see it go. This was an awesome, sexy story and I can’t wait to read more of Ms. Harte’s work.

The lingering thoughts of the woman are. Neither of them can stop thinking about her. When they discover Nix being held against her will, they jump into action, but it’s not the kind they are normally used to. They are suddenly able to shift into huge, furry beasts.

Confused and shocked, they take Nix home only to discover Nix is an Other, as in other than human. She has powers, a life force, and a need for deep secrecy. She belongs to a world Cort and Boone have never heard of but suddenly find themselves a part of. Their only problem? Someone else knows about Nix, and she’s at the top of their list of most wanted. Imagine the shock you might feel if, while fighting, you suddenly become seven-foot hairy beast. That is exactly what happened to Boone and Cort all because they decided to take a pretty little vixen for a romp in the sack.

Nix’s feisty personality amused me throughout the story. You could tell from the beginning she was a woman who took what she wanted, and not getting her way was not an option. This is demonstrated in various parts of the story. My favorite display of power was when she and Dane (Cort and Boone’s boss) bicker. She forces anyone she comes into contact with, male or female, to respect her and recognize she is just as strong as they are if not stronger. I feel bad for anyone who will question this girl’s strength because she has absolutely no problem showing them just how strong she truly is.

One character who I felt should have had a little of Nix’s strength is Boone. He was clearly the bleeding heart in the story, but he came off a little too weak because of his emotions at times. It was rare that he would stand up for himself and he always seem to be the one trying to make things right. The one time he did take charge he quickly regretted it. This was made even clearer because all of the other males had alpha qualities and Nix showed she could clearly stomp with the big dogs. While Boone had the physical strength to take on any challenge he needed just a bit more confidence.

The antagonistic conflict worked because it really helped fortify the relationship between Cort, Boone and Nix. It is what brought them back together and it made their relationship develop quicker because they felt the need to protect one another. It also gave them a chance to see the strength in one another when faced with conflict. In many relationships struggles will test the foundation of the emotions and this story is no expectation.

This story has a nice pace from beginning to end which made it an easy read. The relationship developed from a one night stand to a full blown love affair and I was just happy that I was allowed to come along for the ride. The guy-on-guy action was also worth strapping on my seatbelt for. With a great plot and the furious Nix this story can keep anyone entertained.

Two Masters for Samantha by Michele Zurlo is one of those books that you want to read over and over again. Even though this book is a stand-alone story, it was so good that when I finished it I had to find the first two books in the series to add too my eBook library.

Coming from a family with three sets of twins, I loved reading about Alexei and Stefano — identical twins who have a history of switching places. Can you imagine the kind of trouble the two could cause, when they share everything — their looks, careers, and their women? Just a hint of what a girl could face: when the Morozon brother set their sights on Samantha Spencer at a wedding, they try their switching act only to find she can tell them apart.

As the story unfolded, I had to stop and turn on the fan because the room was getting hot. The sex education lesson on the difference between Consecutive and Concurrent sex from Samantha’s sister and girlfriends gave me a visual picture of what Samantha would face taking on two Dom males. The detailed lesson in the BDSM life style was an added bonus to both Samantha and myself.

I must say it was delightful watching the story play out and see if these two Alpha males could give Samantha what she wanted and needed. I wondered if they would teach her just what being a sub was all about and see if she would desert her pride and beg. Or perhaps Stefano and Alexei would end up begging? Yes, this book has a heavy BDSM theme, and personally, I was not to sure if I liked the idea of the master/slave part of it when I started reading, but overall I found the story was loaded with hot sexual scenes, a few laughs in places, and was an all around enjoyable read.

This story takes place at the time the heroine, Amelia, is at a crossroads in her life. She wants to stand up against her slime ball of an ex-husband but he uses their child as a stick to beat her down. Financially she’s in a hard place because he’s messing with that too. There are real women out there who face this everyday but what they don’t have is a roommate like Grant and his best friend, Sam.

Amelia isn’t afraid of expressing either verbally or physically what she needs. After a long drought of denying herself or being denied, she’s coming into her own with a vengeance. She’s respectful about her having her son with her so all of the story’s action occurs when he’s not around, and the reason for that is plausible. Because this is a short story, the action starts off pretty quickly so it starts delivering on its sexy promise as soon as Grant comforts Amelia from her ex-husband’s latest threat. A reader can see that there is more between them and up until that point, they held off. The gloves — or in this case, the clothes — come off and Amelia is up for anything. Of course, this being a paranormal story as well, ‘anything’ ends up being a bit more than she bargained for. I liked how the author presented the truth to her and how

And wow, is it good.

Grant and Sam both want Amelia and are quite inventive. Ms. Black has the heroes exhibit a very interesting side affect when they are in their most heightened state of arousal, and I really liked that addition. I thought it different and unique and it worked for me.

As much as I liked the fact that Grant and Sam stepped up to the plate and faced Amelia’s ex-husband in a very forceful way — and I’m sure many woman wished someone would do that for them — I think it bordered on juvenile. It might have been the dialogue or the extent of what they did, or perhaps the line was crossed at the door encounter, I’m not sure but something didn’t feel smooth to me. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad something was done and the ex-husband deserved it; the author made that very clear. I just wished Grant and Sam’s actions were more controlled and alpha-like instead of being reminiscent of spontaneous frat boy antics.

The one place the men excelled and the author outdid herself were the scenes exploring in exciting detail the physical relationship between Amelia, Grant and Sam. That delivers and satisfies on every level and is a strong bit of writing.

Feral Heat is well worth diving into for readers who like werewolf romance stories with a seductive and furry edge. I was entertained and quite happy to get to know Grant and Sam and even Grant’s pet dog was sort of cute in a loopy way. There’s a lot to like in this book and I’m certainly glad I read it.
