Poisoned Magic

Ummmm….Poisoned Magic is an interesting, if different and disconcerting read. Christine McKay has written a paranormal story of magic, witchcraft, possession, obsession and deceit that also brings out baser human desires. When a young woman dabbles in the unknown to have the man of her dreams, she had no idea what she was asking for. This story is hot, exciting, and will keep you flipping pages as fast as you can, but be forewarned, the ending will probably leave you gasping for breath.

Pierce My Heart

Jessie is a research scientist and has little personal life but when she’s the designated driver for her friends at a sex toys party, she has a strange experience she can’t find a scientific explanation for. This story is quite a bit longer than the first book in this neat little book and sets up Jessie’s life for the reader with a lot of details that at times can make you want the author to just move on and get to the point.

However, it doesn’t distract from the story so much that you don’t want to continue reading. Especially after meeting neighbor, Michael and new lab assistant, Deacon. These two are all the hunky temptation any woman could want and practically have “lick here” written all over them. And then there’s Scott, Jessie’s colleague and friend, who Jessie hasn’t really looked at in any other context. And I’m not going to tell you why, but when you get into the meat of this story, you’re going to fall in love.

Where the first story in this book is very disturbing and not exactly in a good way, Pierce My Heart is its polar opposite. Once I learned of Jessie’s life, her heartaches and heartbreaks, I could identify with her reasons for not wanting to do anything but work.

Christine McKay has always been one of my favorite authors with her frank, friendly, conversational style of writing and I was not disappointed with Mysteries & Magick.

She comes off as severely independent but you just know she is hoping by some miraculous event to find a man immune to her gift. Like Lilly, Dallas has some issues to work thru that have bruised his self-confidence as a leader.

Chase and Donavan are twins but also have their own distinct personalities. They work well together to keep Liana distracted and happy. There was sufficient opportunity if the authors had chosen to draw out the story for the sake of adding pages but it might have come off as filler rather than necessary story points.

Falke’s Peak appears to be the first in the Puma Nights series. If Ms. Layle and Ms. Keaton stay true to form in regards to the mating customs for these big cats then there should be at least two more books for the remaining brothers and hopefully a third book for their sister Heidi. I would really like to get to know this family better and look forward to the next installment.

True was a great male lead, a bit rough around the edges but it works for him. I love to read stories where the female or male lead is an author it just adds that extra oomph to the story. Honey was both funny and heartwarming in her role as a woman on her own. I loved the touch about her husband, it really made you grow to love her character and appreciate what she has had to endure.

The main characters in this story had quite unique names which suited them perfectly. All and all this was a great quick, hot read filled with two very sexy cowboys. I will be putting it in my keeper pile. I am secretly hoping Lone will get his own story.

Each tale is a different story yet they are all connected by the one theme that runs through each story. Every one of the women in these stories finds herself wanting to give up control to the man of her dreams.

With each story I was taken on an emotional roller coaster but the one that made the most lasting impression on me was Paradise of Pleasure by Trina Lane. I enjoyed seeing Elaina blossom into a wonderful submissive. She learns just what her body craves through the mastery of Derrick and in the midst of it all the two may just find love. The relationship that builds between the two was a good read. Derrick and Elaina are a perfect match in heart and soul.

All of these stories are an intense read. As you can tell by the title they focused mainly on the submission of the women and how they felt in doing so. The trust and emotions are evident throughout the book and you can easily see the love shine through.

As sexy as these stories were they tended to lean a bit more towards the extreme side of a Dom and sub relationship almost to the point of master/slave relationships. I would have liked to see a bit more of a give and take relationship with these couples not so much of the women blindly doing what ever the men they have just met tell them to do. Don’t get me wrong, some of the stories do talk about the give and take and make it a pivotal point in the tale but I had a hard time really connecting with some of these characters.

Each of these stories are well written and fast paced, though, so I enjoyed all of the authors’ writing styles and will be going in search of their other works to find one I can call a favorite.

Leave it to Mari Carr to bring her Wild Irish series to a close with the hottest and most emotional story of them all. Lauren is a wonderful character. She wants both men, but rationalizes it away, at least at first. I enjoyed watching her open up, first to Sean’s sisters, and then to Sean and Chad about what she wants and needs in her life. She is intelligent, and determined to get what she wants. I enjoyed watching her grow into her sexuality, and I liked watching her surprise at experiences she discovered were enjoyable to her.

Sean is the baby of the family, and has watched his siblings each find happiness with their mates. But he is a realist as well, and knows that he has a darker side to him, one that tends toward Domination and being in control. He also has tried to erase feelings for his best friend, feelings he acted on once, years ago, and that weren’t returned. Now he is content to be just friends with Chad.

Chad is the conflicted one. Smart and determined to succeed, he can’t come to terms with his feelings for his best friend’s girl. Especially when it comes out that she has feelings for him too. He is the one who tries to leave, and I cried at the emotions his confusion and suffering created.

Any Given Sunday is a fantastic reading experience, and it will make you laugh with the characters and the fun they have. It will also draw you in to the story and make you cry at the decisions they make along the way to the very wonderful and totally unorthodox happy ever after for all three of the characters. My advice for this one is to turn the fan on high, and keep the tissues handy.

I loved this story right from the start. Each of the three main characters endears themselves to the reader. Dali is a strong woman who can stand on her own two feet and knows what she wants. Rex and Gage are both wonderful, hard working men who will do anything to show Dali how much they love and care for her. Even though Gage and Rex are werewolves and must explain this to Dali, most of this story is based around the feelings that they begin to have for one another and the trust that must be earned. The feelings that the three have for each other are so intense that they burn up the pages and the love that Gage and Rex have for Dali is so wonderful that I could not help but root for them and hope that Dali listened to her heart in the end and forgave them.

Diana DeRicci writes a wonderful story full of love and trust. The characters are full of depth and emotion making this a book that I could not put down. I will definitely be looking for more from this author in the future.
