After Bette Davis posthumously founds a museum-theater complex at her hometown college, the Producer on high fulfills her longtime dream of playing Scarlett O’Hara. But Bette has no idea how much she’ll shake up her career and her love life by starring in Gone with the Wind.

And that’s only the beginning. Her cosmic do-over also manages to scramble eighty years of world history.

Ronald Reagan will win two Oscars and never become President while John Kennedy marries Grace Kelly and serves two terms. Marilyn Monroe will turn into a sitcom legend, Jacqueline Bouvier will run a style empire and Martha Stewart will become a celebrity chef.

She’s outraged when she finds Meryl Streep is being honored instead and the Patrice Clark Walk of Fame star now bears Michelle Pfeiffer’s name.

Racing against time, the movie-loving academic and the high-strung diva form an uneasy alliance to unravel the mystery before the next day’s induction ceremony.
While they spend a stressful but enlightening day trying to restore order, the Producer takes Bette on a bumpy multi-media ride of her own. As she sees favorite film roles elude her and her onetime husband marry another, she mourns all she has sacrificed by starring in Gone with the Wind and fears her derailed history can’t be fixed.

Seeing that Patrice and Dana’s investigation is stalled, Bette gets permission to make a cameo appearance on earth and lend them a hand. In the process, the trio learns new lessons about film, fate and roads not taken.

It’s well known that Bette Davis wanted to play Scarlett O’Hara in Gone With the Wind, this book delves into what would have happened if Bette had gotten the part and how it would affect the here and now.

I enjoyed this book. The main characters (three women) were at times happy, woeful and funny. Bette is looking down from the afterlife while Dana is the drive behind the new museum gifted by Bette to her home town in Massachusetts. The celebrity to open this museum is Patrice Clarke, a star who is pumped up by her own self importance.

The fun comes from Bette being given the part by the Producer in the afterlife and it affects history more than just the film. Everything changes to the point where even Bette decides enough is enough.

Well written and I have to compliment the author on the research into the stars and history of film. It must have taken her months to get all the information together. Well done!

This doesn’t mean the book is a catalogue of what happened in the past against what happens now, the story flows perfectly and the finale is not a bald statement of fact, more a gentle finish to a well written book.

Jack Billabard, mourning the loss of his wife and baby in childbirth, vows to never to love again. After their funeral at Fort Laramie, he rides into the Wyoming hills beyond the ranch he built for his wife. Through his grieving tears, an ancient tree appears, giving him the hope he doesn’t believe is possible. For the next four years, he acts as a guide on the Oregon Trail, taking families to a new life while his looms lonely and stagnant.

The night before her abusive husband’s death, an ancient tree appears in Sarah Nickelson’s yard as she agonizes over how to survive her marriage. The tree gives her hope she can’t help but reject. After all, a tree doesn’t just appear out of nowhere. After her husband ‘s death, and with no options as a widow in Independence, Missouri, Sarah decides to travel to Oregon City as a Mail Order Bride.

During their trek west on the Oregon Trail, Jack and Sarah encounter one another, each afraid of being hurt again. Can they survive dogs and puppies, wind and rainstorms, Indians and unfavorable fellow passengers, while their love blossoms? Will the tree fulfill its promise?

This medical viagra super store problem is characterized by a consistent inability to sustain an erection sufficient for intercourse. Any person can viagra low cost from the various treatments, should use Kamagra tablets. Another cute and fun entry in the Soul Mate Tree series!

Venture back to the old west with The Trail To Love and fall in love, just like Sarah did. Most of the story takes place during a wagon train to Oregon and poor Sarah is determined to be independent on her way to marry a man she’s never met. Her son, Tommy, is cute as a bug and mostly written in an age appropriate manner. He’s only four, but in those days kids were expected to carry more responsibility than they do now, so some of his behavior may have felt a little older than I’m used to, but didn’t feel out of place in the time.

Jack is a great hero. Devastated by the loss of a wife he loved deeply, and imprisoned by the promise he made to her, he struggles to keep his feelings for Sarah from growing. Thankfully, this is a romance novel, and he fails. Sarah is promised to another mail as a mail order bride, so also needs to deny what she feels. They’re a cute couple and the addition of Tommy made their growing relationship fun, sweet and believable.  There is also a wonderful cast of secondary characters as well.  Lucky Sarah had a couple great female friends. Mary, from her home town, who helped her figure out what to do when Sarah’s husband died. And Greta who was part of the wagon train and supported, mentored and just cared about Sarah on the trip.  I really, really liked Greta.

The author did a good job with the setting, and the descriptions were thorough, but I have to admit that I was so wrapped up in the characters themselves I didn’t really care about where they were. It’s true that the situation couldn’t have happened in another time, but really the story was very much character-centric and, for me anyway, that’s a good thing.  I love it when I’m so crazy about the characters I’d read about them doing just about anything.

Only two little things niggled for me. Horace was so evil. All stories should have a good villain, but he was almost a caricature and had literally nothing good. It made me wonder why they even hired him as a guide if his predilections toward women were so well known. His behavior was a bit over the top and didn’t feel as believable as I would have liked. Also, the way she was able to resolve her conundrum with the man in Oregon felt a little too easy, but I have a feeling the tree might have helped a bit with that. *G*

I keep calling this book “sweet”, but know that doesn’t extend to the love scenes. They aren’t numerous, but they are hot and descriptive. Sarah had an abusive marriage so had never been honestly “made love” to before. Jack is definitely up to the job and shows her what real lovemaking is all about.

All in all, a satisfying romance. The Soul Mate Tree is an interesting idea, and I’m enjoying reading how each author incorporates it into their stories and makes it work for them. A great idea and thus far handled in really awesome ways!

In “C,” Stephanie A. Cain wrote about a man named Murphy whose neighbor girl turned up late one night at his home with a suspicious injury. He didn’t trust the cops to respond properly to a possible case of child abuse, so he had to decide what he might be able to do to help her on her own. The plot twists were fabulous. I appreciated the way Ms. Cain gave subtle hints about what was really going on while still leaving plenty of room for other possible explanations. Not only did this make her work fun to read, it made the ending even more meaningful than it would have been if I’d known what was happening from the very first scene.

While all of these stories had strong premises, a few of them could have used a little more development. “U” by Danielle Davis was one of them. It was about a young girl named Drina who was selected to be the bearer of a cursed story that had been passed down through her family for generations. Since she wasn’t allowed to share it with anyone until the end of her life, she couldn’t even tell the audience what it was about. As much as I enjoyed the secrecy surrounding this curse, it was a bit disappointing for me as a reader to have so many of my questions about it left unanswered.

Jonathan C. Parrish’s “J” followed someone named Sam who was in charge of determining the most effective ways to torture souls who were assigned to the Department of Miscellany in the afterlife. The interesting thing about this character’s job was how much bureaucracy was required in order to sort the souls based on what sins they’d committed in life and which punishments were most effective for them. Office politics isn’t something I’d typically expect to find in hell, but it worked really nicely as a contrast to the horrors that awaited anyone who was assigned to Sam’s department.

This collection is part of a series, but it does not need to be read in order.

I’d recommend E is for Evil to anyone who is in the market for well-written science fiction.

Scott Sullivan has been sent on a not all together pleasant trip down memory lane to secure a location for a client. Sure, it may take some charm and convincing to get the owners to sell, but he’s up for the task. And then he’s getting the hell out of dodge to escape the memories. In and out, quick and painless, that’s the plan. He just hadn’t counted on running into a fiery and stunning obstacle with gold flecks in her eyes.

Danielle Harris has worked hard to make her dream come true. With her best friend, she owns a boutique where she sells the vintage style dresses she designs. When a city lawyer comes along and tries to ruin everything, her Italian temper flares.

With Scott trying to conduct a business deal and Danielle fighting for her dream, sparks fly. Not least sparks of attraction and perhaps love. It’s clear that one of them needs to give in, but the feelings of resistance are deep-rooted in them both.

One of the reasons I enjoy reading romance novels is to see how a relationship between two people will develop. Also, I like to read them to see how they will overcome their problems and fall in love. And, if the story is good, I fall in love with the characters and I live through their fears and insecurities and become very happy when they find their HEA. I really liked how this story started so I was looking forward to more conflict between Scott and Danielle before they fell in love.

Unfortunately, that was not the case with Vintage Dreams. This book had a very promising start, but not so satisfying a performance. Scott Sullivan is sent on a business trip to his childhood town to try to secure a location for a client but it’s occupied by the fierce heroine, Danielle Harris. Under no circumstances does she want to sell her property. Instead of buying the property, Scott finds himself liking Danielle and ends up in a situation where he needs to reexamine his life and make some decisions about his future.

I was hoping that the story would focus much more on the development of the relationship between Scott and Danielle, but it was pretty much an instant love story. Right after their first date they were together and from that point on the focus was not so much on romance as on the resolving of past issues.

I have very mixed feelings about the characters. Scott is such a nice guy. He had a very tough childhood and he is carrying his father’s sins but he is willing to help and has a good heart. Danielle is also nice, but I did not like her temper. She is a bit over the top temperamental and often I did not understand her reactions. I wish there had been more emotional depth between the two.

All in all, Vintage dreams is an okay read. Readers who are looking for a subtle romance novel featuring a lot of nice vintage dresses and “love-at-first-sight” will not be disappointed.

Big revelations, family secrets, closures, weddings and hot sex scenes; you name it, Hurts to Love You has it. The third installment in Alisha Rai’s Forbidden Hearts series features Evangeline Chandler and Gabriel Hunter. The two of them have known one another for a very long time. Evangeline has had a crush on Gabriel since forever. Gabriel suddenly realized that little Evangeline has grown up to be incredibly beautiful young woman, but there were complications which made their love forbidden. I enjoyed watching them try to stay away from each other but once that wedding party forced them to spend time together in close proximity, that’s when everything changed.

Although this is part of a series, Hurts to Love can be read as a standalone. Besides Evangeline and Gabriel, I met a lot of secondary characters from the first two books in the series. Each of the secondary characters is either part of her or his family and they all bring a wonderful dynamic into the story. Ms. Rai did a great job in capturing complex family relationships and all the revelations surely helped in that. Actually, I liked reading more about Eve and Gabe’s families and their interactions than just about Eve and Gabriel’s romance.

My biggest issue with their romance was their lovemaking scenes. It wasn’t because they are not well written or very hot, they are; I missed the sensuality and tenderness from them that should have been there. Instead, they were more about sex and less about lovemaking. For me that did not fit well because Evangeline and Gabriel’s feelings were presented as something much deeper than just pure lust.

If I put the sex vs. love aside, I found this story very entertaining. It is a feel good story and I am glad that I read it.

But when he discovers she’s a virgin, the earth collapses under his feet. Suddenly, having her as his mistress is not enough– Rafiq demands she become his bride!

This is a classic romance filled with the best tropes guaranteed to deliver pure escapism and fun to readers. Desert royalty, a sister so loyal to her family she’d do anything to save one of them, and the sparks that fly when plans don’t go according to the dictates of the alpha hero, all lead me to ask, what could be better?

The story opens with the heroine pulling a fast one on some palace guards. Gabby proves herself to be resourceful, a bit impetuous and stubborn to the core. She also treats the man she meets that she happened to come across in a tower room like a regular joe. The ‘regular joe’ turns out not to be just a scruffy, sand covered ne’er-do-well in the same boat as she. Gabby is in for a surprise.

Since he got to see her unguarded and real, the hero, Rafiq, gets hit with a thunderbolt of inspiration. All his concerns, worries and problems stemming from his strong sense of duty could be dealt with and solved by this little spitfire. The question is, how does he convince her?

After meeting them both in the first few chapters, and with the groundwork for the plot and the conflict laid out before me, I settled back in my comfy chair, ready for the sparks to fly and the entertainment to begin. I was not disappointed.

Some arrogant forced seduction, when done right, can be quite sexy. The caveat being that the heroine isn’t exactly opposed to it. She’s just conflicted with her newfound well of passion that he taps into, and it kinds of freaks her out. If you read the synopsis, you get a clue as to why.

Rafiq has all the best intentions but fate laughs at him in this story. I laughed too. Resistance is futile but the hero sure gave it a good fight. He tried to be good, but he was oh, so bad.

The happy ever after wasn’t a surprise because I’ve read enough of this type of romance story to know I’m going to be satisfied. However, it’s the not knowing how it comes about, the dialogue used and how the author wraps it all up that makes a book unique. The ending was kind of corny, but it didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the book as a whole. Gabby’s brother was a tad too clueless for my tastes and Rafiq’s brother wasn’t on screen enough for depth but enough for me to glean that his story is filled with secrets no one knows. It’s a great hook to bring about interest in looking it up.

Desert Prince, Blackmailed Bride is fun. When I needed something quick to read that made time fly on a rainy afternoon, I chose well.

A female vampire slayer proves as seductive—and mysterious—as the night dwellers she stalks in this novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling Carpathian series.

For as long as she can remember, Natalya has been fighting demons: first in the form of childhood nightmares, then later, immortal creatures that kill and prey on the innocent—including her own twin brother. Whether Carpathian or vampire, she slays those who murder by night, and has no equal—until she is seduced by the very thing she considers her enemy…
A Carpathian who has seen nearly everything in his endless existence, Vikirnoff didn’t think he could be surprised anymore—until he faces a woman who rivals him as a vampire hunter. A formidable and gifted warrior in her own right, Natalya has a nature that is strangely familiar—yet alien—to his own. Who is this mysterious female who fears no one—not even him? Natalya could be the key to the survival of the Carpathians, but all Vikirnoff is certain of is that she is the key to his heart and soul…

If you like classic Feehan then readers should pick this one up if they haven’t already. The newer books seem to have more scenes with the hero and heroine getting physical and up to sexy shenanigans to the point that it can seem overdone. But, in the older books of the series there was more action, good vs. the vampire bad guys, fighting, escapes, challenges, suspense and drama and plenty for readers to sink their teeth into. Dark Demon is one such story. It’s the 13th installment of the long-running series and I prefer the kind of excitement that I find in this novel. It’s a guaranteed page turner.

The biggest asset in this novel is the heroine, Natalya. Not only is she a warrior and a survivor against impossible odds, but she’s got a mouth on her, full of sass, cheek and hysterical pop culture references. She’s relied on herself so often and so long that she has a chip on her shoulder when it comes to trust. Trying to mesh her personality with the demands of her newly found and unwanted hunk of a lifemate, Vikirnoff, provides grins, sighs and excitement consistently throughout the story. I completely enjoyed Natalya.

As for the hero, Vikirnoff, his frustration in finding out that his lifemate is as far from June Cleaver as the sun is to Neptune had me laughing quite a lot. For a man hundreds of years old, during a time in which the culture dictated that women didn’t fight, relied on their men and acquiesced to their wishes, Natalya’s warrior independence constantly confounded, infuriated and, turned him on. I enjoyed watching his progression of unacceptance to ‘he wouldn’t have her any other way’. Eventually Vik falls in love with the heroine just the way she is. Getting there though, is a wild and entertaining ride.

In later novels there is a huge community feeling which makes many books not standalone reads. Dark Demon is better suited to being a standalone because the key focus is specifically Natalya and Vikirnoff; their hot and cold relationship, and their fight to stay alive when forces want the hero dead and the heroine captured for nefarious purposes. Past characters are mentioned but only when the suspense heats up and the critical climax ensues. And, what an action packed time it is in the last few chapters of the novel. It’s so gripping I suggest making sure there are no interruptions when you get to them.

Pick up your own copy to see Ms. Feehan at her best; when the community is still being built, the greatest enemy is diabolically evil, clever and a worthy opponent, and the sexual tension and eventual culmination is the perfect balance for a reader to be completely satisfied. This is an awesome tale of romantic suspense with an effective paranormal cast of characters. The happy ever after is classic Carpathian. Totally recommended!

Does wanting to wait until you are married make you a maiden?

This is a mystery with an interesting plot. I felt like I learned something and enjoyed the reading at the same time. While the author admits her village, called Montauk, was taken from the idea of the Cahokia Mounds in Illinois, it is intriguing and paints an excellent description of an idea of the lifestyle of that possible village hundreds of years ago. This neat mixture of cops and detectives and a young lady anxious to learn more about an ancient society makes for exciting reading with twists and turns. All of this really created a “sitting on the edge of your seat” type mystery.

C.L Shore did a great job of creating interesting characters we could all identify with. While they each had their own personalities (the bad guys as well as the good) they were developed enough for us to recognize them even through their thoughts as well as their words. Obviously from my first paragraph, you can tell I thought the author did a great job describing the surroundings where the scenes take place. I used the term scenes because that is what this was like…a really good movie that you could be a part of. Enveloping you in a surrounding of ancient mounds as well as describing your everyday living in the moment takes us back and forth but in a continuous unsolved mystery. Good reading.

The story was written well without any flaws and I loved the ending. I have to laugh because I thought the story was over and I was content. However, the author wasn’t quite done with me. I loved that surprise.

There is a small cast of characters that were well developed and I look forward to meeting them again in the next book in this series.

I will add that the suspense/mystery was well scripted and implemented throughout the love story but it turned out to be who I suspected, therefore I was a tad disappointed that it was that easy to figure out. I would have enjoyed more of a twist on that aspect.

I also need to mention to those who are sensitive to what happens in the bedroom. I typically don’t read books with swear words especially when they are making love. So this is that warning to those who may not like that style. I had no issue skimming over after the second love scene.

Over all, this is a book that I am comfortable suggesting to a friend to read. I am excited that book two, Love Hack, is already available to purchase.
