A story of young lives maturing through debt, war and love

The Heritage tells the story of the young Dupois family who have recently lost their parents and struggle with debts they have been left. Moving from the family home to a dilapidated old house in Lyme Regis bequeathed to the eldest child, Michael, is their only option.

Michael, Paula, Nicholas and Joanne are the children and only surviving members of the Dupois family. Their father has died recently, and that, coupled with the death of their mother some six years previously has drawn them close to each other. This closeness helps them through some difficult times, not least in discovering that their father’s debts results in them having to sell the large family home in York and move to Lyme Regis to live in an old dilapidated house, Greystones, bequeathed to Michael by an uncle.

If you are suffering from impotency it is vital that you seek professional viagra cheap prescription advice in order to solve the issues related to the condition. This, coupled with finding out that their father’s investments weren’t so hopeless after all allows them to plan their futures.

However, their innocence and their plans are abruptly shattered by the onset of the Second World War. They all serve their country in their own way, always with the bedrock of the family to support them through difficult times, until Greystones once again becomes the hub of the Dupois family.

The solid, narrative style writing of Jean Wallace Duffy brings the story of the Dubois family of Northampton Shire, England to life and immerses the reader in the story so it seems absolutely true. Her writing style is not seen too often in fiction and romance these days. It is compelling.

In 1932 the Dubois siblings, twenty-two-year-old Michael, eighteen-year-old Paula, sixteen-year-old Nicholas, and fourteen-year-old Joanne find their economic status changed drastically.

Their strength of character emerges as they gear down their life style to live within their means. When finances surprisingly improve, they plan wisely for themselves and for others they feel responsible for.

When England declares war on German in 1939, the four Dubois revamp their priorities. With the same do-what-has-to-be done attitude, each of them uses his or her talents and abilities to serve their country as World War II ravages their homeland. The horrors and misery they see and deal with touch the heart and assail the senses.

The love that comes to each of the siblings, during this time when the world seems to have gone crazy, gives the reader a glimpse of the enduring and the endearing qualities of the characters as they cope, survive, love, and come to prosper in spite of the devastation during this time in history.

Jean Wallace Duffy delves into the best of times and the worst of times in an era when the world changed dramatically. The Heritage combines love, family solidarity, history and a lot of I am my brothers’ keeper attitude to create memorable and compelling reading.

While Marco isn’t in charge of the investigation, he is influencing Connie Keefer, the DA. Aimee is sure that no other suspects are even being considered, so she starts investigating.

While this is a fun cozy mystery, I wish that the characters had more depth. It took me quite awhile to get hooked into this story and I’d figured out much of the mystery early on. There were a lot of details that I didn’t know, but it wasn’t hard to figure out the bad guys. In addition, lots of action is just reported after the fact. It would have been nice to experience more of it.

The final capture is dramatic, with good tension and excitement. I also loved all the animals, especially the llamas, the cat, Fanny, and the cockatiel, Bosco. I never realized that llamas were such good watch animals.

Fans of the cozy mystery will enjoy watching Aimee as she hunts for clues and suspects, putting herself in danger, as she works to uncover the truth.

Two people coming into their own and finding they’ve got more in common than a marriage certificate–very interesting.

Ms Ashford’s book brought me to tears in good ways. I couldn’t put the book down and needed to know what would happen next. Why? The premise, first of all. Newlywed but strangers? I had to know what that was all about. Mary and John marry, but he’s called away on an offer he can’t refuse. What a jerk, right? He’s redeemable, so don’t let that deter you, but I thought the same thing. And he’s gone for two years. But it’s what happens during those two years and after that makes the story shine.

Mary…the poor girl. She wanted to be what everyone wanted her to be. Talk about a boring life. I cheered when she decided to come into her own and stand up for herself. Granted, this all takes place in a time where women being independent and forthright was frowned upon. A little interjecting of current values? Maybe, but this added spice to the story and I liked it. She finds out she’s happier when she’s herself and that’s a lesson we all should learn.

Then there’s John. Like I said, he comes off as a jerk initially. And why not be a jerk? He’s considered the one member of the family who isn’t suitable for marriage. I mean, how awful! He’s not stupid or witless as he’s thought to be by his family. Again, I liked how this character came into his own. He’s a good guy and smart. Plus, he’s sexy and just what Mary needs. Who can argue with that?

This book proves there might just be someone for everyone and it’s a matter of taking the time to find that person. Enjoyable, indeed.

Lord Philippe Lavay once took to the high seas armed with charm as lethal as his sword and a stone-cold conviction: he’ll restore his family’s fortune and honor, no matter the cost. Victory is at last within reach–when a brutal attack snatches it from his grasp and lands him in Pennyroyal Green.

An afternoon of bliss brings a cascade of consequences for Elise Fountain. Shunned by her family and ousted from a job she loves, survival means a plummet down the social ladder to a position no woman has yet been able to keep: housekeeper to a frighteningly formidable prince.

The bold and gentle Elise sees past his battered body into Philippe’s barricaded heart…and her innate sensuality ignites his blood. Now a man who thought he could never love and a woman who thought she would never again trust must fight an incendiary passion that could be the ruin of them both.

What are the types Kamagra is available in? It is generic tadalafil canada basically manufactured in three different forms of consumption like tablet, jelly, soft tab the medication is still making men thankful to it. Elise Fountain made the mistake of falling in love with the wrong man. She trusted that her lover was honorable, but soon found herself abandoned and with a child on the way. Her shocked family cast her out, but the school where she taught kept her on. She had a relatively good life there, until a vindictive patron of the school had her dismissed. Now homeless and jobless, she has applied for the position of housekeeper in the residence of Lord Lavay.

Philippe is a French aristocrat with very blue blood, who lost many family members, as well as property in the revolution. His sole ambition has been to earn enough funds to buy back his family’s estate, and to provide for his remaining family. He is close to his goal, but a vicious attack left him near death, and unable to continue in his service to the king. He is recuperating in the village of Pennyroyal Green, but his injuries are very severe, and with no income, he still lacks the money he needs to purchase his former home. The deadline is looming before the estate goes to another buyer. He may have no choice but to go forward with marriage to the heiress his family has long expected him to wed.

Philippe has little expectation that the latest housekeeper will fare any better than the last several. His penchant for throwing objects, and the lazy, disobedient servants have sent the last several running away. Elise, however, applies techniques she used as a teacher to the ragtag staff, and soon begins to whip them into shape. She also realizes that the distant, and sometimes angry, Lord Lavay is still in considerable pain. Elise’s father is a doctor, so she’s soon preparing healing tea, and providing advice on how to help Philippe’s severely injured hand. As his household and his own health improves, Philippe begins to pay more attention to the lady who made these miracles occur.

Rarely have I ever fallen in love with both the hero and heroine so completely and so quickly. Elise’s one mistake changed the course of her whole life. Yet, though her lover and her family turned away from her, and fate was definitely not kind, she retained her strength of character, her convictions, her compassion, and her kindness. She’s a wonderful mother, and is raising her son to be kind and full of joy. Philippe, while a product of his noble upbringing, is never unkind, or consciously “top-lofty.” His reserve and occasional anger are caused by his situation and his limitations. He does retain an air of command around Elise as her employer, but it’s not meant as belittling. They begin to converse, and soon, each is taking pleasure in being able to coax a smile (or an “almost” smile) from the other. I was delighted when Elise finally drew a full joyful laugh from Philippe.

There were so many wonderful scenes, small moments that added up to their falling in love. One in particular that I love is when Elise catches a servant about to steal one of the objects Philippe managed to smuggle out France. She is so passionate and eloquent in her defense of Philippe, that I was hoping he was in the background able to hear it. And he was. And it was beautiful.

Philippe understands love for his family, but he can’t define the feelings he has for Elise. Love toward a woman is a foreign concept to him. He can’t quite comprehend his jealousy toward the man who is the father of her child. Since Elise has been in love once before, she recognizes what is happening to her. She knows that she is a passionate woman, and that she’s in danger of making a second mistake. She finds the strength to refuse Philippe’s advances. Philippe feels hurt by her rejection, but feels confident that she will soon become his lover. Observing Philippe eventually come to the realization of what “home” and “love” truly mean was magnificent.

While the time period covered by this book was relatively short, the characterizations were done in great depth, and the romance progressed slowly and believably. It Started With a Scandal was so well written that I resented time I had to spend away from the book to attend to things like work. The words just flowed, and I was truly enchanted by this heartwarming, passionate, and romantic book. Everything about this book worked for me, and it is my favorite of all the excellent works penned by Julie Anne Long. Though it’s early in the year, I can guarantee this will be on my “Best of 2015” list, and it receives my highest recommendation.

When Captain Rafe Lancaster is invalided out of the Britannic Imperium’s Aero Corps after crashing his aerofighter during the Second Boer War, his eyesight is damaged permanently, and his career as a fighter pilot is over. Returning to Londinium in late November 1899, he’s lost the skies he loved, has no place in a society ruled by an elite oligarchy of powerful Houses, and is hard up, homeless, and in desperate need of a new direction in life.

Everything changes when he buys a coffeehouse near the Britannic Imperium Museum in Bloomsbury, the haunt of Aegyptologists. For the first time in years, Rafe is free to be himself. In a city powered by luminiferous aether and phlogiston, and where powerful men use House assassins to target their rivals, Rafe must navigate dangerous politics, deal with a jealous and possessive ex-lover, learn to make the best coffee in Londinium, and fend off murder and kidnap attempts before he can find happiness with the man he loves.

An aeronaut loses his commission due to an injury, gets a new job as a coffee shop owner in the heart of Londinium—and comes face to face with more temptations and deadly dangers than he ever did in the Aero Corps.

Facts about premature ejaculation Premature ejaculation is another cause for male infertility. secretworldchronicle.com viagra india This medicine, used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED), also called sexual impotence, is one of the most common problems caused by excessive alcohol consumption. secretworldchronicle.com viagra on line Do not cipla india viagra increase or decrease the dosage according to your own life and be available to yourself. Any sort of penis infection can also lead to viagra sans prescription browse around this sexual problems. A part of this story reads like steampunk Starbucks coffee wars. Amazing stuff, really. I loved every bit of this tale. Though it starts kind of slow, the length of this piece gives time and space for each character to develop into three-dimensional people. Besides, Rafe is sort of lost in the beginning, trying to find a place where he might fit in, so the tardiness belongs there.

The plot is slow to reveal itself. If you’re a perceptive reader, some of the plot twists won’t come as a surprise. But the way everything is handled, is unique and absolutely captivating. The Houses that form the powerbases of this Londinium and the Britannic Imperium have fascinating and complex ties, so you never really know who’s on who’s side. And while the princeps of these Houses are known by all, the other members can be anyone really. You never know.

This complex steampunk world is given to us through Rafe’s eyes, via his first person sarcastic British wit and dry British humor. As such, the sporadic explanations given, a detail here and another there, merely raise a whole bunch of new questions. Clever piece of writing indeed. Thankfully, to those in need, there’s a glossary of terms in the back and a map of the main plot area in the front of the book. Trust me when I say both will come in handy, even if the map should have been the other way around, I think. The technologies alone are a staggering concoction of real and fantasy armaments, vehicles, city powers, etc. They all read realistic though they are far from it. Delicious.

Rafe is a wonderful character, a member of a Minor House and overjoyed at having nothing to do with them and their schemes. He’s smart though a bit slothful, loving though professing to care only for sex, and able to form natural, lasting friendships even though he’s suspicious of people’s motives and ties to the Houses. In short, Rafe is a complex individual, realistic and relatable.

Rafe becomes acquainted with two men, Edward and Daniel, in a gay molly house, and he has sex with both of them in the story, though not at the same time. A fair warning if your consider that cheating. One of these relationships forms the foundation of Rafe’s new life, the other becomes the bane of his existence. It’s not difficult to tell which is which. But that epiphany is only the beginning of the story.

Add to these the likes of Mr. Pearse, the coffee shop’s former owner, Hugh, Rafe’s batman, Will, the pastry chef next door, Hawkins, the bodyguard fully prepared to kill for his charge, or Stravaigor, Rafe’s House’s leader—and you have an amazing pool of people to draw Rafe into the multi-layered plot. And those above are just a few of the eccentric characters prowling the streets of Londinium, mixing their affairs with those of Rafe who is just trying to find a place to call his own.

I give this superbly woven tale top marks and my highest recommendations to anyone who likes a slow-build M/M romance filled with suspense and intrigue, even if you’re not a fan of steampunk or historicals. The sex portions take place at the beginning of the book, while the suspense fills out the rest. I am honestly impressed with the level of detail, characterization, plot developments, and the writing that matches the subtleties of the created world with its uses of slang and steampunk parlance. I absolutely recommend this to everyone, regardless of your preferred genre.

Staying at Vic’s guest house makes it impossible to avoid running into a Sloan at every turn—especially Heather. Seeing her again has affected Brody more than he wants to admit. Set against the scenic backdrop of a New England winter, Echo Lake is a captivating tale of family, friends and the possibility of new love.

Romance, secret intrigue, regrets, and redemption fuel emotions on multiple levels in Echo Lake. Carla Negger’s unique writing style sparkles and entices a reader into a memorable interlude with the people of Knights Bridge, Massachusetts during the cold, cold winter.

Heather Sloan is no longer the twelve-year-old girl who challenged the boys to a game of “Risk” and played with a “take-no-prisoners” attitude. Now, she is definitely a grownup, curvy, pretty woman with a “can-do” attitude. She is good at her job with Sloan and Sons. Her professional footing is solid. She’s in charge of a major renovation of an old home that retired diplomat Vic Scarlatti owns.

Her emotional footing hits a slippery place when diplomatic security service agent Brody Hancock, once the town’s bad boy and her secret love, visits his old friend Vic Scarlatti.

The change in both Brody and Heather is subtly and enticingly revealed as they interact, with the reader getting to enjoy the humor, the undercurrent of caring, the misgivings, the undeniable love that has abided so many years and now demands its place in their lives.

Family love and dynamics, the pains and adjustments in retirement, the hurts of bad decisions made long ago, along with community’s meddlesome caring take the reader on a vicarious cold winter experience that is thought-provoking, heart-warming, and sensory rich.

If the reader has read previous Swift River Valley novels, getting to catch up on what is happening in well-remembered characters is an added bonus in Echo Lake. This novel is a super good addition to the other novels that take place in this unique environment.

Carla Neggers, with a great plot and interesting, well-developed characters, delivers excellent reading once again.

This woman is clever and resourceful and finds herself a job and a place to stay while she tries to decide where her future will lead her. I definitely enjoyed this book and would be happy to read it again, or read another of Ms May’s stories.

One last thing I must say is I loved the cover. It encompassed exactly what the book was about and drew my attention in before the opening words.

Foxy is the new rising star actor attached to a multimillion dollar trilogy. They actually get along well together, laugh, talk, and have a real friendship. Noble knows there can’t be more, god forbid love, but sometimes the heart wants what the heart wants.

Noble is the fourth and final book in the Indigo Knights series, which is a branch off series from Heaven Sent. Casual readers can certainly read this as a stand alone but there are so many names and couples included that it might be confusing if they haven’t read the entire IK and HS series. I’ve actually read both series entirely and still couldn’t remember all the couples and their details. Since the story does assume the reader knows all that information, I mostly let all the names and couples fly over my head since I couldn’t be bothered to go look up which couple was which and what the main details of their story. They’re all happy and in gay relationships so anything else is just a gift to the reader who can remember all of it. This time around Noble is the last single man standing and he finds his true love. It’s a cute story and one with a ton of sex scenes so I found it lightening fast to read.

The drama is mild and mostly nonexistent. Noble comes across melodramatic and over the top but it’s just an excuse to extend the happy ending and create some more tension. It never felt real or a genuine threat to Foxy and Noble. It’s clear these two are in love and will live HEA very soon. Like all the other books it’s easy reading but the classic rock band antics in the backdrop but this story made a point of including every single couple from both IK and HS repeatedly in the story. I think it is meant to serve as a nice farewell to the two groups and I admit it was charming and enjoyable to remember reading the love stories of so many interesting men. It also made me realize how similar every single couple’s story was and only the details about the men changed. Oh well, it’s a formula that works and it’s used well here.

I don’t think Noble is the best book but it’s not the worst either. It sits solidly in the middle of the road and works well as a final book. It’s very dramatic but more so easy going, a lot of sex, and a swan song to all the great characters over the years. They’re all extremely happy, in love, and very successful so hopefully fans of the series will be content with where the characters are left. I certainly am.

When Gillian was at her lowest point in life, the goodness of the family she didn’t even know she had changed everything for the better.

The journey Gillian went through was inspiring. As a character, she was a lovely mix of resilience and gentleness. The fact that her sole focus was the wellbeing of her brother portrayed her as a selfless, courageous and tender woman. Her love for her brother was one of the sweetest aspects of the novel. I was expecting a bit more tension between her and her grandparents initially, but Bud and Dee were portrayed a bit too sweet to allow for any depth in their relationships.

After the tumultuous beginning and a lot of suspense, the novel experiences a slump in pace towards the middle, but it picks up at the end, culminating in a scene that is both sweet and tragic, thanks to Ken, a character who is fascinating because of how thoroughly bad he is.

Blake, as sexy and strong as he is, didn’t convince me as the hero of this story. While I understood his need to protect Gillian, he was often pushy and overbearing, answering questions and making decisions instead of her etc. His best scenes are with Justin, rather than with Gillian. His friendship with her brother felt a lot more genuine than his attraction to her. The words ‘I love you’ are repeated too often by the end of the novel they begin to feel empty and fake. There’s no real tension between Blake and Gillian and that is why I felt no chemistry between them.

The gentleness that Gillian is capable despite growing up in a family fraught with abuse is the highlight of this novel. She grows into her new family and into a gentle relationship with Blake, finally realizing she can have a happy ending, too.

Claudia’s plan to stage her own ruination and escape marriage to the churlish and elderly Sir Saint had seemed foolproof. She was sure the kindly Henry wouldn’t mind helping her out … but somehow she hadn’t counted on him actually proposing.

Their illicit encounter awakens feelings long buried for each. Will this preposterous scheme result in a happier ending than either could have hoped for?

Claudia Baxter has a problem. She’s about to be married off to an aging dandy, and she has to find a way to get out of it. Her parents are determined to see her settled, so drastic action is called for. Her twin brother’s dear friend (and her childhood companion) Henry De Vere has come to visit. When they were children, Claudia always took part in their games and escapades, in fact, she was the instigator of many of them. So now, she concocts a plan. She will sneak into Henry’s bed, and make it appear that she is ruined, so her elderly suitor will reject her. What Claudia doesn’t know is that Henry has suffered from sleepwalking for most of his life, which has put him in a lot of precarious, embarrassing, and dangerous situations. Only recently has Henry begun to believe that the problem is going away. Now Henry wakes to find Claudia in his bed, the whole household is awoken and crowds into his room, believing the worst. The “props” that Claudia used make it appear that not only was she ruined, but tortured in the process. Henry believes the worst, that he ravaged Claudia while he was sleepwalking and is filled with guilt and self loathing.

Henry is such a dear man, my heart broke to see him suffering. He was so filled with remorse and anxious to put everything right. Making it worse is the fact that Henry has been attracted to Claudia, but never acted on it because of his sleeping disorder. He felt that he was not safe to be around, so he planned never to marry. He now offers to marry Claudia right away, but he has become a villain, and is banished from the Baxter household. I had a harder time with Claudia and her scheme. She went ahead with her plan without letting Henry know, and then, even when they had a chance to talk together before Henry had to leave, she didn’t tell him the truth. I found her a little weak for just not turning down the marriage her parents were trying to arrange in the first place.

Once Henry accidentally stumbled into what really happened, he concocted a scheme to get back at Claudia. While I’m not a fan of paybacks, unless it’s at the villain’s expense, I did feel that Henry deserved to get some of his own back. It was this painful incident that finally made Claudia realize just what she had done, and the consequences for Henry. Despite these reservations, the book did make for a unique and entertaining read. If you enjoy a historical romp, or a little madcap short story, Truth Within Dreams will fit the bill.
