The heart must be protected at all costs… but will Cassidy be able to afford the price?

Cassidy has distanced herself from childhood friend, Tristan. She’s moved on from their days of best friend-hood and is attending college. And dating one of the most eligible males on campus. Life couldn’t be better. Really.

Tristan has devoted himself to Cassidy since they were children together. But no matter what he did, she’s never treated him like more than her best friend. He knows they can have something deeper. If only he can find the key to unlocking her fearful heart.

Cassidy is finally ready to risk her heart, but is she too late?

Cassidy is a sweet young woman with a beautiful Christian faith that she demonstrates simply by the way she lives. Cassidy is smart, but seems to have poor judgment where men are concerned. Her past boyfriends have been a string of losers. Tristan has always been there to pick up the pieces of her heart. While Cassidy privately acknowledges Tristan’s importance to her, she refuses to take the step toward a romantic relationship with him. However, what Cassidy doesn’t see is that her reticence is pushing him away and she just might end up losing him anyway. In the midst of Cassidy’s turmoil, Keefe blows into her life and immediately begins pursuing her heart. No matter who Cassidy chooses, someone’s heart is bound to be broken.

The love triangle between Cassidy, Tristan, and Keefe is very well done. I really had no idea who Cassidy would choose. Both men are smart, attractive and completely devoted to Cassidy. Keefe is sweet and romantic. Tristan has known Cassidy most of her life and they share a deep bond of friendship that has always hovered on the edge of romance. It is clearly a tough decision, and I was really looking forward to reading how she would choose between men who seemed evenly matched. Unfortunately, something happens towards the end that makes Cassidy’s choice incredibly easy. In fact, I’d say that the actions of one of the characters took the decision out of her hands entirely. I found this a little disappointing. However, I will say that I think she ended up with the right guy, and the ending was very romantic.

The Fearful Heart has several entertaining secondary characters. I particularly enjoyed Cassidy’s roommate Billie and her odd romance with Ethan, a very large football player. I do wish that Ava, Cassidy’s nemesis, had been a bit more rounded. Most of her exchanges with Cassidy didn’t feel natural, and I thought the dialog between them was a little stilted. I will say that the end of the story hinted at more depth to Ava’s character, but it was almost too little too late.

Overall, I enjoyed reading The Fearful Heart. Cassidy is a lovely young woman I’d be proud to call my friend, and I truly enjoyed watching her try to sort out her relationships with two interesting men. Fans of contemporary romance might want to check it out.

Come on Home, Children is a dystopian thriller that tests whether love can outwit bureaucratic greed, and whether Willa can tread a treacherous path between reality and illusion.

Willa escapes from the Renton Children’s Center when she is sixteen years old. Four years later she has a young daughter and she is attending college with a fake ID, trying to earn her degree in nursing. She never would have survived it weren’t for her friend Adele, an older woman who allowed Willa and her daughter Katy to live with her in the underground labyrinth beneath the Pike Place Market. But when the Bureau of Population Management arrives on Adele’s doorstep, the fake birth certificate for Katy doesn’t work and Katy is dragged off to the Renton Children’s Home as an illegal child, just as Willa had been twenty years earlier.

Willa is a heartwarming character, determined to make a life for her and her small daughter. She works hard and is a very loving mother. When Katy is taken from her, she is determined to get her back. Thankfully, she has friends, new and old, poor and wealthy, who band together to help her. But will all the help be enough? In the end, it is Willa who has to become someone new, to put on a different front, to legitimize herself so that she can rescue Katy.

I liked Willa and found her to be very believable. I also liked her friend Jake Reed, a double amputee from the war in Afghanistan thirty years ago, who watches over and protects Willa. The plot is well crafted and the pacing is good. The suspense builds throughout and it isn’t until the very end that things are resolved. I enjoyed the descriptions of Seattle, similar to today’s city, and yet definitely changed. The setting definitely enhanced the plot.

This is the second novel in a series, but it works just fine as a standalone. I have not read the first novel in the series, but I was instantly hooked by this story and did not feel as if I’d missed anything.

Readers of dystopian science fiction are sure to enjoy this exciting, heartfelt story.

She’s hungrily pursuing a dream…

After setting up his latest restaurant, renowned American chef Jake Pearson has a big project booked in Miami, but not before he’s best man at his friend’s wedding.

Is there a wrong time to meet the right person?

Partnered at the wedding, Jake falls for Mandy’s sassy, natural style, and she can’t get enough of his passion for food—and for her. But when it’s a case of finding love at the wrong time, can they find room on their plates for each other?

Ms. Ainslie’s Her Sister’s Wedding is a zippy contemporary romance with a great lead character, Mandy Evans. Mandy does not impress as an exceptionally nice person, yet… her circumstances are intriguing. We quickly discover that she considers herself a journalist though she seems more of a restaurant critic. She dresses well but is underprepared–not impressive.

Still, she has friends. She can rely on her pal Dario, who teases but will help her out. Conversations are quick, witty and believable; typical party fair. Mandy seems a bit like a fish out of water, yet it’s fun to follow her around this restaurant’s big opening party. She becomes a bit more human, especially after we learn she’s agreed to be a last-minute bridesmaid for her sister, and suddenly the whole dynamic changes.

Mandy, we soon discover, is more than the glamor gal we see on the outside, and chef Jake Pearson gains a little inkling of the same thing. Their meeting includes a funny little twist (no spoilers here…but it IS a case of serendipity) but this matters little: by this point, we readers are truly hooked. Mandy may be able to carry off the black dress and stilettos, but she’s also got good intentions, and dreams for the future–dreams that include Paris. A certain coincidence might help out the ‘love story’ but at the same time…those very dreams threaten the whole thing.

Her Sister’s Wedding is a great story, a look at a certain sophisticated lifestyle, and the discovery of some very ‘real’ and engaging main characters. The story line is quick and unpredictable and in many ways just plain fun. The use of incredibly long run-on sentences may be a stylistic choice but are occasionally mind-boggling enough to test your attention span- my one complaint. 4 stars, for a good overall read.

Sidney Marsh’s job as a New York travel agent is on the line. On her last two tours, she and her colleague Jay ended up smack in the middle of murder and mayhem. Their sleuthing sideline did not endear them to their employer, Itchy Feet Travel, so naturally they are relieved when their wealthy friend Brooke requests their presence on a no expense spared tour of India and Nepal. Another agency has made the arrangements, so all they need do is sit back and enjoy the ride.

Well, not quite all. Brooke has enlisted them to keep a sharp eye on their fellow travelers, all “friends” who have grown rich from the demise of others. After surviving an attempt on her life, Brooke is certain the culprit must be one of the five: a handsome Scotsman, a Bollywood actress, an investment banker, a Parisian filmmaker, or a twice widowed blonde. Many of the tour accommodations prove to be as dodgy as the reputations of the travelers themselves. After one of the members of the moving house party dies of an apparent heart attack, everyone’s nerves are on edge. Sidney can hardly be blamed for assuming a deadly game is afoot… or for falling for Adam, the doting Scotsman. Now, if only she can unmask the killer before the killer beats her to the punch.

Sydney Marsh sits in her boss’s office at Itchy Feet Travel and listens as he gives her the next assignment, one which she will share with her friend and fellow travel agent Jay Wilson. The thought of a luxury tour to India excites her until her boss tells her that this is her final chance. He goes on to say, “And I really mean it this time. Your last two trips were disasters.” Sidney tries to defend herself, saying that the murders which happened on her last trips were hardly her fault, but her boss won’t listen. He only tells Sidney that “on the trips you’ve been leading lately, stuff happens. Bad stuff. People die. It may be just bad luck, it may not be your fault, but somehow it happens. And if your luck doesn’t change—and I mean right now—you are out of a job.”

Sidney is a delightful young woman, and she and Jay work well together. They are very glad that their wealthy friend Brooke has insisted that Sidney and Jay lead this tour. The only problem is that once they are in India, they discover that all the arrangements have already been made and they aren’t needed at all. Instead, Brooke lets them know that she wants them to discover which of her friends is a murderer.

The descriptions of India and Nepal are fantastic, and the reader quickly becomes another member of a fantastic tour. The sights, sounds, smells, and even tastes of these countries is conveyed in a vivid and exciting way. And the characters on the tour are certainly very different and each seems to have secrets they don’t want to reveal. Mysteries abound in this exotic location, especially after one member of the tour dies.

This is a fun novel, but I do have to admit that I guessed the murderer early on, although I didn’t know all the details until the end. Personally, I would have preferred a bit more mystery and then, when the action did heat up quite dramatically, everything was resolved rather too quickly for my tastes. However, I learned a lot about countries I’ve never visited and the atmosphere was very well done.

Readers who enjoy a cozy mystery, especially one that takes them to new locations, are sure to find Side Trip to Kathmandu to be a delightful experience.

As he interacts with her, he realizes why she ran from marriage. She’s never met someone strong and complex enough to hold her interest. And suddenly, he’s determined to be that man.

I am a fan of Sierra Cartwright, but I have to admit that Command started a little slow for my taste. At first, I didn’t even feel a connection with the characters. They both seemed to be workaholics that would never be able to see beyond their office tasks. I was of course, wrong.

As Ms. Cartwright builds the relationship between the characters she also develops Grant’s and Aria’s jobs. The characters stop feeling like obsessive workers and become people with a common goal both in and out of the bedroom. Their relationship is not only based on their sexual attraction but also on their brilliant minds.

However, even though I warmed up to both Grant and Aria, for some reason, I have to admit that these are the characters which have caused the least impact on me out of all of Cartwright’s novels.

The sex, as in all of Ms. Cartwright’s novels is well written, hot and never boring. (The author demonstrates well that BDSM is much more than kneeling, spanking, cuffs and flogging).

One line that will forever stay with me is when Aria asks: How would you introduce someone to your BDSM world?” And Grant answers:“I already have.”

Command is a definite must read if you’re looking for some sizzling BDSM and a well written story that goes beyond sex.

First of all, I would very much recommend readers to start this series from the first book, Chaysing Dreams. Yes, the first book may not be what you expect but patience pays off. In this case, the second and the third books are very good in every way. I completely devoured them.

The third starts two years after where the second book ends. A lot has happened but to explain it here would spoil the second book’s ending. It’s exciting and shouldn’t be missed.

Tess is in a place in her life where she has to strengthen her resolve and herself for the protection of those she loves. She has great motivation for becoming stronger and more independent.

More than a year later she goes on a mission. A whirlwind of a mission that would give more questions than answers. There’s so much action, so much that happens in this final chapter of the trilogy but it brings the story to satisfying end.

For a lot of readers, this book would probably only be classified as a Contemporary Romance and Mystery. However, in my opinion there is a little bit of Sci-fi in it.

Chaysing Destiny is full of twists and turns and mystery that any reader with a love for the genre will be glad to read.

Zeb has a serious sweet tooth and with the other guys at the Hammer club raving about the Cream and Beat Bakery his curiosity is aroused. When Zeb sees the naughty shapes and creations the creative chef makes from customer requests, he can’t put it off any longer. He needs to go there. Cakes, pastries and cookies, it all has Zeb’s mouth watering, but the cute owner of the shop – Storm – appeals as much if not more than his baked goods. The chemistry is smoking hot between them, and although Storm isn’t into the BDSM scene, Zeb can’t help the high level of his attraction to the smaller man. As one dinner becomes two and then far more, Zeb and Storm both find their hunger for each other increasing to the point of no return.

This was a great book, filled with seriously hot chemistry and more than a little nipple/fetish play and funny puns. I found myself laughing numerous times and loving how easy and relaxed both Zeb and Storm were together. I found that Storm had a sort of innocence which I really loved. He’s a fully grown man, not some sort of ingénue and he even has quite a temper buried down under a mountain of control. Storm also has a dirty way with the puns and could be a pushy lover, but even through all that he came across to me as very soft and tender, especially in regards to his sexuality. I found the complexities of his character particularly charming and unique. I really loved him and found myself touched by his personality.

I also really felt that Zeb was perfect for him. Zeb might be a Top, might have far more experience, but he didn’t appear to me to be some hard BDSM maniac. He was incredibly patient and willing to work at Storm’s pace. Even more wonderful to my mind, Zeb didn’t need the labels, especially since Storm wasn’t ready to embrace some. For example, Zeb didn’t insist Storm label himself a sub, or call Zeb “Sir” or “Master”. I felt the love and connection between Zeb and Storm was even more intense, more perfect because Zeb was willing to take Storm for who he was. And sure, Zeb pushed Storm sexually, often past what Storm thought of as his comfort levels, but Zeb never crossed the line and never forced Storm into a box/label or doing something he wasn’t thoroughly enjoying. I found that quite different – especially for a BDSM book, where all too often I find the characters need to fit inside specific parameters. Zeb and Storm were outside that and I loved every moment.

While Dominance and Submission is a strong theme throughout the whole story, I found it actually quite tastefully, emotionally and almost romantically written. These are the sorts of stories I love to find and read, where there is such emotion, romance and true depth of caring between the protagonists. Yes, there’s kink and no I won’t be sharing this story with my mother or granny, but it has such a delicious eroticism I devoured the book in one sitting. I greatly enjoyed the deep connection between Zeb and Storm and the romance reader inside me just sighs in blissful happiness.

Clearly this was an amazing story and deeply satisfying. There’s an impressive amount of kinky, delightfully sex scenes and an equally lovely amount of regular “getting to know you” stuff that helped show me just how good Zeb and Storm were together. This was a complex, layered story I enjoyed thoroughly. I would strongly recommend it for readers who like their kink, but don’t want anything too heavy-handed, and also for readers who enjoy their M/M romance and don’t mind a bit of bite in their sex. This is an awesome read.

Indecent Seduction brings to light some things a lot of us take for granted. With the invention of computer and internet came the ability to connect with people living all around the world. While there are a lot of positives to that, we have to keep in mind the negatives for the purpose of our own safety.

The best thing about this story was the ending.

There were some negatives. The beginning needs some work. The character representation at the beginning was not as strong as it could have been. It felt that Miss Star was not sure of how best to portray some of the characters.

What she did do well was in trying to keep it real. Plausible. This is story that could be a lonely woman’s fantasy at best and nightmare at worst, but it could happen.

When Olivia’s husband leaves for her for a younger woman she completely breaks down. But then she meets a strange man online and starts chatting. Chatting leads to more personal and graphic escapades. She starts to gain back and build up a new self again. Every action has its consequence, good or bad.

The plot at first was a little hazy and uncertain but she came on strong and developed a worthy ending for the situation.

I would very much recommend this to readers who look for romantic fiction that closely resembles reality.

This was a new author to me and after reading Butterfly Kills I’ll be checking out her other titles too. This was a well-layered mystery story that kept my interest throughout the book. It begins with what you assume are two very unconnected events but as the story advances you along with the police begin to put the pieces together. Nothing’s rushed but the pacing is far from slow.

The characters are well drawn and each have their own backstory (even the secondary characters) which I felt added just another layer to this novel. I especially liked the setting and have to admit it’s the first Canadian based mystery I’ve ever read and given me an incentive to seek out more. What I liked best was the author revealed elements in the story at the same time the detectives found out about them. It felt like you were the detective rather than being one step ahead of them.

The dialogue is natural sounding and many of the problems the characters faced in this story are ones I think most of us can relate to as well. Caring for aging parents and balancing that with a career. Lost and new loves, and moving on with your life.

If you like a good whodunit, and want to discover a new author and locale for your mystery fix then I’d say this is one definitely worth checking out.

Reluctantly, Annie returns to Turtle Pine to help out, only to discover it’s not just seven hundred cupcakes she has to bake, but also a wedding cake for the half-sister who stole her high-school sweetheart. Annie left town to get away from her sister. No way is she getting mixed up with her again. Once the cupcakes are done, she’s outta there.

Now that she’s back, he’s determined to give her a reason to stay.

He’s got one week to change her mind. Or she’ll be gone in a cloud of powdered sugar.

Cupcakes and Crushes is aptly named.

Though Annie has some very fond memories of childhood and school, there are some people she has no intention of meeting with after she graduates and moves away to not only start her career but also to protect her heart from more damage.

When Annie left town Cade was left with a broken heart which Annie had no idea of and when she returns to help her grandfather, Cade has resolved to give Annie cause to stay in town this time around.

Cupcakes and Crushes is not only about a budding romance but it is also about family and community. Miss Ford created characters each so different and yet so perfect for each other.

Annie has three half-sisters, two of them whom live in town. All the sisters are different from each other but I would have liked to know more. Annie despised Tina (one of her half-sisters) and does not seem to think that there are any redeeming qualities in her compared to the others. At times I felt that Annie’s mind is stuck in child mode when it came to her sisters, however I would say that the ending was beautiful and made up for any of that. This is the first book in the series so hopefully the other books to come will feature the other sisters.

Annie and Cade had chemistry and a lot of it but they also had a lot of understanding between them, their relationship was well balanced in every way.

I would recommend it to any contemporary romance lover.
