If We Had No Winter is a gritty coming-of-age tale about loss, love, and learning to try again.

College is a time of exploration and learning about one’s self and the world; Billie Dixon is about to meet these challenges head on.

Billie struggles with her shattered family life and with her first year college classes at Bradford College, where her estranged father is the head of the Math Department-which happens to be the major that Billie is interested in. The good news is that Jimmy, Billie’s best friend from school, is in the dorm room across the hall from her. Unfortunately, the bad news is that Billie can’t stand his roommate Xander. Billie is focused on academics and lets out her frustration in the form of artwork, but this becomes problematic when a student Billie begins to tutor has a romantic interest in her. Still, there is the issue of her difficult relationship with her father.

If We Had No Winter is a strong story that looks at the home we leave when we go to college, the life we want to make, and then what happens when everything comes crashing down. Billie is a relatable character that has her own passions, concerns, challenges to social acceptance and from time to time, even severe difficulty connecting socially with those around her. The first person perspective is fantastic to give the reader a glimpse inside the head of a girl that on the outside has everything figured out-but on the inside is struggling to keep it together.

The character dialogue flows smoothly and Billie’s social awkwardness is understandable. The actions from main characters to supporting characters is relatable for the reader and the plot is deep. The focus does not always rest on relationships or family ties, but the author blends everything together to make it “real life” and believable.

Near the end of the story, a dramatic turn occurs which is completely unexpected. This turn ties everything together and we see a side of Billie that is both unexpected and deeply real. The reader is then tasked with wondering “what would I have done?” as Billie’s actions play out.

Be sure not to miss If We Had No Winter-this deep story will be sure to make a personal connection that you will not easily forget!

When she’s forced to work with the angry fire witch, she discovers their lives are linked in complicated ways. As all the other fire witches in the city mysteriously lose their powers, the heat is on to solve the case. Saddled with a vampire assault at the local supernatural brothel, a missing person who doesn’t want to be found, and a mess of vampire politics, Mallory struggles to put together the pieces before the city burns.

This book has all the elements of what I would call a riveting read. Despite being the second book in a series, it’s still a fully contained tale. Mallory Mors is a rookie detective in a magical world with numerous bad guys capable of burning people to a crisp, and her home life is steamy, with a head vampire beneath the sheets. Her latest story is full of fire witches and a tangled mystery of arson and death by fire, plus a bonus mystery surrounding the fire witches in her friendship circle.

As a protagonist, Mallory is spontaneous without being stupid, but she is naïve and green in her job, her powers and her beliefs, something I sense will change as the series progresses. I found the intricacies of her love life politics to be played well, most of the time, though occasionally she let a fight go too quickly, as did her partner. Their frequent time in bed, or heading towards it, vividly goes through the play by play of the event and is full of screams, primitive and primal alike. For me, this went too far and ended up sounding unrealistic, a caricature of the event. However, this may have been because I was far more interested in the mystery playing out within the book and found the romance to be a relatively boring interruption in this part of the narrative.

The mystery running through this story was what kept me hooked through the conflictless love scenes and the occasional typo. With fire after fire killing, maiming, and destroying buildings, the culprits were known but not their motives, or their location. The manhunt to find them, bouncing through many seedy establishments along the way, was riveting and gave me a wonderfully thorough introduction to the society and world Graves is building in this series. The payoff to this mystery was a little predictable and I had guessed the outcome from maybe halfway through the book, but there was a twist or two in there which made me smile.

This series is sure to appeal to people who like sex with their mysteries. Some readers may recognise it as a more mainstream version of what Laurell K Hamilton creates in her Anita Blake series. What draws me to the series above all else, are the potential conflicts to come. Mallory has embedded herself into a life with a vampire who keeps his professional life as head vampire of the city secret. Since an old friend of his has reappeared on the scene and become central to Mallory’s work, there’s much for her to learn and, I suspect, much she would not like. I’m eager to find out how those mysteries reveal themselves in later books. I imagine Mallory is in for a rough ride!

He soon discovers that his missing persons case is not an isolated incident, but part of an otherworldly mystery—one that, if confronted, may threaten the very future of humanity.

This is my first book by this author, and it will definitely not be my last. I have already bought the second book of this series, and I can’t wait to read more of it.

Miller Brinkman is a private detective in his small hometown of Ashley Falls, WV, in the late 1940s and is happy staying right where he is—mostly because he suffers from anxiety attacks. His anxiety accounts not only him staying in Ashley Falls, but also explains why he is still single.

He becomes involved in a missing persons case which takes him out of his comfort zone – leading him to Washington DC and Maryland. It also leads him back to his ex-love, who helps him in his investigations.

Icarus is full of adventure, twists, mystery, and thrills – keeping me on the edge of my seat. The tone is definitely “noir”, reminding me of some of the hardboiled detective shows from the same era. It’s hard to tell much about the book without getting into spoilers, but there is a definite shift towards the end of the book, and I’m looking forward to discovering more about the bigger story involved.

The characters are wonderfully drawn—Miller, his ex-love Charissa, a mysterious stranger who leaves Miller clues, and even the “bad guys.” Although Miller has his weaknesses and second-guesses himself, he has a great deal of integrity and wants to do what’s right–not only for Jane, the missing girl, but for other people who have also been affected.

Kudos, Mr. Hulegaard, and I’m looking forward to reading the next book.

Written in a very classic and compelling “who done it?” style, Irish Jewel hit all the right notes for spine tingling thriller. I liked that I couldn’t figure out the mystery too early into the story but in retrospect, all the clues were there and it all came together for a very exciting conclusion.

Right away this reader was thrown into spin right along with Amy. Why was she being warned that the man she was about to marry wasn’t all he seemed to be? The more answers she finds, the more questions she has. I liked Amy and Michael together. They have really great chemistry so it was important to me to see how the author would resolve their story. I was cheering for them to not only make it to the wedding but to have their happily ever after. The author doesn’t make it any easier on Michael than she does for Amy. Not only does he have a suddenly missing fiance, someone is targeting his family.

Can I just say, Ms. James knows how to write a good villain! Seriously, this guy all about the evil!

There’s a lot going on in this short novel. The action starts early and the pace is fast. I was surprised at how quickly I finished it. One of the elements that I enjoyed but that also threw me off a time or two: there are several twists and turns. Just when I thought I knew where the book was going, a new element would suddenly come to life and off I’d go thinking in a new direction.

Readers who enjoy mystery, intrigue and just enough romance should give Irish Jewel a read. There’s a whole lot of story packed into this novella and it takes the reader on an exciting adventure half a world away.

Defining his sexuality didn’t make sense until his best friend spelled it out.

Doug Archer did some pretty idiotic things in the first eight weeks of his junior year of college. First, he kissed his gay best friend, and second, he kissed a guy he’d mistaken for a girl. Not stellar moments for Doug. If he isn’t careful, he’ll lose his spot on the soccer team to the new freshman, or worse, he might misconstrue his new friend Rob’s overly affectionate tendencies for flirting. But if Doug isn’t bothered by another guy’s attention, and he normally dates girls, does that mean he’s gay or bisexual?

Sam Garber suppressed his same-sex attraction his entire life. His father told him it was immoral, and Sam did everything he could to bury his feelings. However, after meeting Doug at a party and kissing him, Sam can’t think of anything else. He decides dating girls is the best way to keep his secret hidden. With playoffs in sight, this is no time to think about guys in any other context than soccer. Only neither boy anticipates the difficulty in suppressing his attraction for another jock!

Two college boys meet. One is dressed like a girl. A kiss happens. But one boy is bisexual and the other comes from an excruciatingly religious, abusive family. Angst, angst, angst abounds.

In case you want to know, Doug’s POV is in first person while Sam’s are in third person. That seems like the new norm for dual perspective these days. Just FYI. It’s easy to get accustomed to, so I had no trouble there.

Despite the enormous amount of information being available on davidfraymusic.com levitra uk the internet I decided to visit Indonesia. Erectile Dysfunction – You Don’t Have to Put Up with offensive, time consuming and bandwidth stealing continue reading over here levitra prescription pop up ads. Ayurvedic pills especially formulated for erectile cialis india online davidfraymusic.com dysfunction such as Booster capsule and Mast Mood oil. The beginning is a bit on the dull side, with long pages of exposition. I wanted to see things happen, not be told about them after the fact. Namely how Doug and Sam(antha) met. We do get to see that scene eventually but it might have worked better in the beginning. Nonetheless, when we do see it, it’s short and to the point. I liked how easily the scene flowed.

This is a good book. I adored the other books in this series. Kelly is a great writer who has a knack for realistic characters and dialogue, humor and angst, awkwardness of teen years and growing up, friendship and family, not to mention love and sensuality. I especially love how the author portrays friends, for example Rob, who’s my favorite, a fun person I love to read about. Everyone needs a Rob in their lives. Though, on a side note, some might not appreciate the lengthy talks about religion here, specifically, Christianity. But since Rob is such a nice person, his views are positive and kind. In these turbulent, hate-filled times, that was a nice change.

Kelly’s grasp of characterization shines here as well. Both Doug and Sam come off as three-dimensional characters, flesh and blood boys trying to make sense of things changing in their lives. Doug’s temper and jealousy, for one, are a few of his defining characteristics. But he’s also a compassionate defender of those he cares for. Sam’s fears are also given center stage, the trauma of being brought up in fear because of a violent, ultra-religious father and a mother scared into silence. Sam is afraid to love Doug and Doug has ways to go before he knows who he himself is but the two boys inevitably gravitate toward each other.

The structure of the book is a bit off. For example, when Doug and Sam finally kiss again, the scene is immediately interrupted by several chapters of Sam’s version of everything that’s happened before, things that I already learned from Doug’s perspective. That really irked me, since it seemed useless. Sam’s feelings, his confusion, could have been depicted differently. It wasn’t necessary to hear his thoughts when the reader could infer those things from his reactions, expressions and words, from Doug’s chapters just fine.

The first half on the story is full of angst in the sense that Doug is confused about his sexuality and wants to be with Sam, while Sam is buried deep in the closet and afraid of being true to himself. Be forewarned that both guys date and kiss girls during the story, so if you consider that cheating, then steer clear.

The interpersonal angst and the inner self-reflections felt realistic and relatable. I especially appreciated the way Sam began to learn how to question the things his father had told him: that all gays are faggots, that it’s unnatural, etc. It wasn’t a quick epiphany but more of a series of slow realizations. Sam really grows into his own man during the story, finding his courage and sense of self. In contrast, Doug learns to curb his temper and think things through, take his time, and be patient. His puzzlement over whether he’s straight, gay, or bisexual was rather well done. His dad’s and Chris’s influence on Doug’s thought processes were quite revealing. I was glad bisexuality was given the credit it deserves. Labels and fitting into boxes don’t work for everyone.

In the second half of the book the plot kind of falls apart a bit. First, there are a lot of sports situations. And I mean a lot. Then there is a violent parent who goes off the deep end, leaning toward the melodramatic. It was obvious from the start this would happen but did it need to? It felt like once the boys decide to be together, the tension of would-they-wouldn’t-they was resolved, and a new one had to be created. After the intense interpersonal conflicts of the first half, the second half didn’t really do it for me. The sex was hotter than the sun, though, so that was a plus.

The overall message of hope, love, friendship, family, and togetherness were strong throughout. Kelly’s writing style is strong, with a mix of inner monologue, dialogue, and sensual or physical scenes. Noteworthy is the fact that the boys belong to a soccer team, so most of the story revolves around the team, friendships, games, competitions, etc. Sort of a sports-themed romance. But more than that, I think this was about sexual identity and self-identity, and those subjects were handled exceedingly well.

Though this is a standalone book, to get the most out of these characters and the issues and conflicts covered, I suggest you read the whole series. This is the third in the Jock series, and they’re all worth a read. Recommended to those who like college boys figuring things out, who appreciate romances heavy on the angst factor and naughty sex, and who wish to understand through one example of what it’s like to be bisexual. I liked this a lot, and I’m looking forward to more.

A few hundred people wake up in an auditorium with no memory of their past, scared and confused, struggling to remember who they are and how they got here. A voice draws their attention to the person standing on the podium, impeccably dressed, an air of calm confidence about him that suggests he has the answers to all their questions. As he starts explaining the situation, they slowly begin to realize they are in a futuristic realm called Enigma, where dead humans are reborn and brought to trials for the crimes they committed in their human-lives…

I could tell that Mr. Sharma had put a lot of effort into developing how Enigma worked and what it would be like to live there. That entire realm ran like a well-oiled machine. It felt real to me because of how many details the author included about who was invited there, what they had to do while they there, and where they might go after their time at Enigma had ended. I was perfectly satisfied with what the narrators shared with me, but I also found myself wanting to know more about this unique place.

I had trouble keeping track of all of the characters because there were so many of them. While it was interesting to jump between their experiences in the afterlife, I would have preferred to focus on a smaller number of characters who were going through the process of being judged on what they did while they were alive. Having so many different characters made it hard for me to remember which backstory belonged to which individual in this book.

One of my favorite parts of this book was how little the main characters knew when they woke up in the auditorium. It was interesting to feel their confusion as they tried to figure out who they were and how they had all ended up in the same room. What made this scene even more memorable to me is how all of their questions were answered. Without giving away any spoilers, the narrator did a nice job of tying all of those pieces of the plot together in ways that made sense but also required the reader to do some thinking of their own.

The ending was quite abrupt. While I understand that this was meant to be the first story in a series, I would have liked to have some closure for at least a few of the conflicts that were explored here. There were many opportunities for the characters to grow and learn from their experiences that were never taken advantage of. Leaving everything hanging like that in the end made me feel unsatisfied.

With that being said, I would be curious to know what happened to Aparna, Dev, and the other people who woke up in Enigma because the pacing of their storylines were so fast and strong. I was always interested in finding out what would happen next to these characters. There was never a point where their adventures slowed down at all, and that was a good thing.

Halfway was a thought-provoking tale that I’d recommend to anyone who is in the mood to start a new series.

Emma is one of those characters who is nearly perfect, but despite this, I still liked her, as her actions were genuine and done with the best motives. The immediate attraction that Emma and William feel for each other is going to test her resolve. I really liked William despite his wariness of love and his suspicion of everyone’s motives. He has lived a hard life, yet he treats Emma with respect. Though he’s desperate for her, he won’t force her, which is somewhat of a miracle in the 1100’s.

I’m generally not a fan of medieval stories – the primitive conditions make me shudder. This story tipped its hat to a modern day battle of the sexes, and there were a few modern expressions tossed in occasionally which seemed out of place. The medieval romance fan will appreciate the handsome and seductive knight’s attempts to woo the fair maiden, who attempts to hold on to her virginity until true love shows its face. If you enjoy a touch of the paranormal in a sexy battle of wills, and can overlook a few anachronisms, I believe you’ll savor Flight of the Raven.

Nick Ford is every woman’s dream. Smart, handsome and a firefighter to boot. Despite losing his fiancée to another man and then – eventually – to death, he perseveres. I was wary of his idea to trek all the way to Hawaii to find out the truth of what happened to Dylan and James, but once they were there, I was fully on board. It didn’t surprise me to find Nick and Jacks drawn to one another after their mutual tragedy, but I wasn’t sure I liked it a whole lot either.

You learn a lot more about Dylan Matthews, the woman James Morales is seeing on the side, than you do about James, but that’s okay, too. I think seeing Dylan’s side of the whole story helps you understand exactly why she did what she did. Not that it makes her infidelity right, but it does make it more plausible. I wish we could have gotten a chapter or two from James’ point of view, if only to help the reader reconcile the things that Jacks wouldn’t ever know.

The Good Widow hooked me from the blurb. I didn’t even have to crack the book to know that I was going to love it and I wasn’t wrong. I had the hardest time putting this book down because my need to know the truth was so strong. Then, the authors threw a twist in there that maybe I should have seen coming but, like that big truck late at night, it completely blindsided me. I felt a lot of kinship and sympathy for Jacks, although I’ve never been in her situation before. By the end, I was also firmly on Dylan’s side because, as her story unfolds, you get to know the real girl behind the face of the mistress. Engaging, intense, and full of surprises, The Good Widow was an excellent read.

In my opinion it takes a talented author to write a successful book series in which a reader actually loves all the books in the set. I’m excited to tell you that Cheri Champagne is one of those talented and successful authors. I loved book three, Love and Deceit, as much if not more than the other two previous book in the series, The Mason Siblings. Each book is truly unique on its own and could be read as a standalone, however I do think a reader would enjoy book three more if they do read the two previously books in the series.

There is a suspense/mystery story arc threaded through out all three books. It’s briefly re-capped in each book so that I wasn’t feeling lost. I also think there’s a benefit to reading the two previous books in the series because there are brief appearances from the characters mentioned from the other books, it develops a “at home” feeling as you are reading it and provided a bit of familiarity or nostalgia which I found to be comforting. But again, each character is re-introduced in case you forgot who was who or didn’t read the previous books. I love the entire Mason family, including those who have married into it.

The hero in this story, Barrick, was a bit beastly with justifiable reasons. Yet, the heroine, Katherine, was the perfect lady to tame Barrick’s beastly nature for she’s not your typical lady. Together they make for an interesting, entertaining and sensual romance. It took Barrick a while to accept he was in love with Katherine which made the moment when he realized he was in love with Katherine all the more enjoyable.

Katherine’s secret is a big one and how she meets Barrick makes for a creative and interesting plot. The plot thickens as the story goes on. The story has a steady pace with several twists and turns to keep me guessing. I couldn’t put the book down.

There is a side character named Camilla, and without her the story would have been totally impossible. There would have been no big secret for Katherine or the opportunity to meet Barrick or the ability to persuade her brother for permission for her endeavors. This side character had a significant part in the book on three separate occasions. The last occasion left me feeling worried for Camila. I can’t give more detail then that but I was sincerely worried since Katherine was. Camilla was a dear friend to Katherine for countless years. I bring this up because as the story ended, (without an epilogue I might add, and those who follow my reviews know how much I love those epilogues), I finished the book with a heavy, happy sigh and a bit of a book glow looking forward to book four. When all of a sudden it hit me…what about Camilla? Because of that untied thread I have to give four stars. I like all my threads tied and a happily ever after in romance stories. I have on good authority that we will know about Camila in the future, however, that didn’t help my happily ever after book glow feeling, now.

Yet, in no way does that make me at all hesitant to recommend this book. I highly encourage readers to check out this book and the other two in this series. I honestly did love how Love and Deceit ended, with Lane, Katherine’s brother, saying to Barrick “ welcome to the family!” because that is how I feel. I feel personally connected to the Mason family and I genuinely can’t wait for book four to read Lady Emaline Mason’s story.
