Milt Edwards, survivor of an incident that almost took his life six months previously, is back. He and his girlfriend, Roberta (Robbie) Jones, both suffer from PTSD as a result of their ordeal, and they attend counseling sessions in order to help them work through their mental anguish.

Nothing helps, but then a friend of Milt’s is killed, ostensibly by the same person who designed the Undernet—Azrael. Galvanized into action, Milt once again joins forces with the FBI in order to find out who Azrael truly is, and he is paired with a rookie agent, Nasraana Shaksy, an American Muslim who has her own battles to fight.

The mystery of who Azrael is deepens, and Milt desperately searches for the truth. The only question is, when he discovers who is behind it all, if he will survive it.

Some monsters have become very good at hiding their true selves.

Milt’s character development was well done. I’d mentioned wanting to see more of it in my review of The Undernet, so it was nice to see how much this character changed in his second adventure. He had been pretty badly traumatized from being kidnapped and tortured back then, and he was still dealing with the repercussions of that when this case began. It was neat to see so much continuity for him there as he continued to heal.

The cast of characters was really large. Milt and the FBI agents he was working with kept finding more and more people on the Darkweb who were involved in child trafficking as the story progressed. While Mr. Frankel’s descriptions of everyone were thorough, I sure would have liked to have a list of all of the characters to reference when someone who hadn’t been seen in a while popped back up again. There were a few times when I had trouble remembering certain people who played small roles in the plot because of how many other folks there were to keep track of as well.

One of the things I enjoyed the most about this story was trying to figure out who Azrael really was and how he’d evaded the authorities for so long. This wasn’t an easy mystery to unravel. There were a sufficient number of clues to work with, but they didn’t appear right away and all of them required the readers to think critically about what we’d just read.

The first book in this series was in the young adult genre, but this standalone sequel took a much darker and adult-oriented turn. While the many references to child trafficking and pedophilia did not include any scenes of a child being sexually abused, such disturbing subject matter is really only appropriate for an adult audience.

The Undernet 2: Azrael should be read by anyone who is in the mood for a dark mystery.

A beautiful bride, dressed in a thrift-store wedding gown with raccoon eyes and a choke collar, and covered from head to military boots in blood, rescues him. It’s the Grim Reaper, made over just for him. What an honor.

I did not think at all that Nico would be able to get her to open up. But with every meeting I knew they would end up together. I just had to find out how they would do it.

Nico is a drug lord who finds himself betrayed or attacked. Vulnerable, he does not expect a ‘Goth princess’ to come and save him. But that is exactly what happened.

The back story was really touching and the build-up to that made me want not want to end the book. However, the book was a good sized for the story. Not too long or short, with enough expressions, actions and chemistry embedded in it to satisfy me. Hard Limits is an erotic romance about working through Paige’s hard limits and healing completely. It was a touching as well sizzling hot romance.

The book is part of a series, which I had an inkling of when going into it. I do think it stood up by itself very well.

I did love the secondary characters that made this more fun and occasionally comedic.

For romance lovers who love the mafia romances, this is a must read.

Until There Was Us is a sweet second chance romance novel.

Although this was not my usual type of story, that does not mean that I did not like it. I found it well written and I loved that the characters were well developed, complex and three dimensional.

Until There Was Us is a family saga and what I do not typically enjoy about family sagas is the meddling of overprotective parents, and this novel had plenty of scenes of them. Also, this is the 7th story in the Montgomery Brothers series but by the time I realized that, I already liked the story too much not to finish it. Although the story can be read as a standalone, Until There Was Us features many recurring characters from previous installments whose stories I did not know.

In the first half of the novel, the hero and heroine overcame most of their problems but there was a little bit of drama at the end which showed just how much the hero and heroine were meant for one another. The pace of the story was a bit uneven and there were parts with too much description that slowed the story down; but there were plenty of parts that I enjoyed very much.

If readers follow and like the Montgomery Brothers series then this is a story for you. Also, if you like romances that contains large, loud and meddling families, this is definitely the story for you.

I have a confession to make – I am actually looking forward to reading the next installment in the Montgomery Brothers series. I hope it will be Christian’s story because I would love to see his HEA.

Maybe you’d best not miss another of your reunions…

As in the title, this might be different than many reunions you’ve been to, whether a high school or a family reunion. This one happens to be a few high school students and a teacher who was with them long ago, gathering because of murder. Or at least because they think poor Sarah was murdered. They also think their teacher, Gilda, can help them find some answers. Gilda spends some time reflecting on the personalities of the students and also has a difficult time moving past nicknames the kids gave each other back then, most likely behind one another’s backs. Mean Barbie, Wannabe Ken, and as many other Barbies as you can imagine; some nice, most not.

This book was very readable. It’s another in the “Gilda Greco Mystery” series. A lot of the story seemed to be spent describing the characters and at first reflection I thought that might not be construed as an interesting topic. Much of this description was because Gilda spent a lot of time reflecting back on her students. I don’t think any of the in-depth description of the characters was extraneous. Much of the plot was dependent on knowing the characters well to try and determine which one could have killed Sarah, which personality does it take, which person had good luck since graduation, which one had fallen on hard times. I looked at them all in trying to decide and I changed my mind several times. That means the author did a very good job of deception. I bet that was why it was so entertaining.

There are several other books in the Gilda Greco series. Check them out too.

But until the case is solved, Jenna’s sticking to Sarandon like glue…

Ms. Spear has a winner! The first chapter set things up kind of slow but isn’t that how a roller coaster starts? Once you reach the top, it’s a downhill ride filled with speed, chills, thrills and WhooHoos! That’s the fun of All’s Fair in Love and Wolf. Once this novel gets going it’s a great read and is nearly impossible to put down once the chase is on.

The attraction between Jenna and Sarandon started within a most unusual circumstance and I think that’s what hooked me. Sure, there’ve been plenty of stories that use the trope of the lawman falling in love with his prisoner but this time, Jenna is the one with the Taser and Sarandon is her prisoner. Well, he was supposed to be. That’s when things got interesting.

I’m not sure if I can call this a standalone read because of all the secondary characters who help the hero and heroine solve the mystery, and the roles they played in doing so. What was cool is the added hook of discovering a new and unknown mystery that rocked all of Silver Town. What Jenna, Sarandon, his brothers and the rest of both their families stumble upon is bigger than anyone could have imagined. There are more victims and skeletons from the past that have a major impact on their present and I was wowed.

Seriously, there are so many threads interwoven I was stunned to see how Ms. Spear made it all interconnect. The author really impressed me with her deft handling of so many people and their personalities while keeping what was happening with Jenna and Sarandon center stage. Their romance is the point of the book but it’s couched in some pretty exciting stuff.

When it comes to Sarandon and Jenna finally committing to a wolf marriage, it was everything I look for. The sensual buildup was well done so when they admitted their love and sealed it as a wolf and she-wolf do, I was more than ready for it to happen. I really was happy for the both of them but Ms. Spear didn’t let the postcoital bliss last long and I was tumbled back into the action. Bad guys have no respect. *wink*

I really appreciated the epilogue that Ms. Spear included because it made this novel practically perfect. This review only hints at the excitement within this novel’s pages and there’s a lot I’m not saying. The impact of discovery is half the fun. The happy ever after was truly happy and that made me feel great. All’s Fair in Love and Wolf is a must read for all fans of Ms. Spear.

After living for years in the city, Dwayne is finally ready to settle down. He’s bought a house, is happy renovating it and ready to find a special woman. When he meets the Fire Chief’s daughter, he knows it would be crazy to hook up with her, but with curves in all the right places and the heat in her eyes as he poses for her calendar photos Dwayne simply can’t resist.

I really enjoyed this story – finding it spicy and sweetly romantic. Blair is pretty reticent at first, having had her heart broken in the past and also having a personal rule to never date the firemen who work under her father. Dwayne knows exactly what he wants though – and Blair fulfills every one of his needs. He’s determined and patient and more than willing to wear her down and wait for her to come around. After numerous meetings in the small town, a little help from Dwayne’s friend and Blair’s daddy she finally agrees to go out with him a few times.

I was a little disappointed that Blair remained fairly oblivious about Dwayne and his feelings. Dwayne made no secret of the fact he was seriously into Blair and while nothing was stated explicitly I truly feel like he also made it crystal clear that he wasn’t just fooling around or “having fun” as Blair continually stated. I thought the seriousness Dwayne felt for Blair was clear to see, so Blair frequently insisting they were just “having fun” and “not dating” etc started to grate on me a little. I sort of got where she was coming from – having been really hurt in the past – but I couldn’t help feeling that her blindness when it came to this matter made her seem silly and foolish, not just understandably trying to protect her heart.

This was my only real problem with the story though. I loved the pacing – slow enough that I got a good feel for both Blair and Dwayne’s characters and also slow enough that the building of their relationship felt realistic and stable, but neither did it drag on – the author walked a great balance I felt between slow and fast. The sex was hot and spicy and with just a bit of dirty talk and fire between the two characters it absolutely ticked the “erotic romance” box for me, personally. Again I felt the author made the sex edgy and dirty enough to titillate but didn’t push the envelope and possibly risk offending some readers. I thought this was really well handled.

A fiery and spicy read with strong, believable and realistic characters and a lovely slow burn to the relationship I thoroughly enjoyed this story and can happily recommend it to other readers.

Alden’s character development was phenomenal. His flaws were so realistic that I actually found myself feeling a little irritated with some of his shortcomings at first. He was so well-rounded that I had to keep reminding myself that this wasn’t an autobiography. On the positive side, his strengths were written just as vividly. When he spoke kindly to his plants or worried about his loved ones, I smiled and hoped that nothing but good things would happen to him and his kin.

There was only one small thing I would have liked to see differently done in this tale, and that had to do with the pacing of it. So much time was spent setting up the beginning that there wasn’t quite as much space left to explore the incredibly clever plot twists later on as I would have preferred to see. With that being said, this was a minor criticism of something I otherwise loved quite a bit.

The world building was just as excellent as the character development. Alden lived in a cramped home where he had find space to filter his water, grow his own food, and provide for nearly all of his other needs as well. When he felt overwhelmed by the breakdown of equipment he needed to survive or once again noted the lack of space in his house for anything that wasn’t essential, I shuddered in sympathy.

Existence Augmented is a must-read for anyone who enjoys plots that are full of surprises.

The first-person point of view and tightly controlled narrative make Reva’s fight for survival quite the harrowing thrill ride. Underneath its gilded, striking veneer, the story not only questions the choices we make on Earth, but what those choices might mean for future generations.

Never stop running.

The plot twists kept me guessing. I didn’t figure out most of them ahead of time, so being surprised by what happened next was always a thrill. It was especially interesting to look back and think of the subtle clues that Ms. Joy left early on that I hadn’t picked up on. Nothing she wrote came out of nowhere. It all fit together nicely in the end, and that made those parts of the storyline even more fun to reflect on after I finished the final scene.

There was a minor plot hole regarding the origins of the antagonists. While I can’t go into any details about it without giving away spoilers, the explanation the narrator heard about where they came from never fully explained a key part of their origins. This small detail was crucial in order to understanding what the antagonists wanted and how they began killing innocent people, so it was a little disappointing to me to see it brushed over even though I deeply enjoyed this tale in every other way.

The world building was really well done. Reva lived in a time when humanity had paid a steep price for all of the pollution that earlier generations had dumped on Earth. Human populations had seriously declined, and no one was sure if our species would survive in the long term at all. This strong sense of regret and anxiety about the future made the perfect backdrop for Reva’s struggle to survive on a spaceship once she woke up and realized something had gone horribly wrong while the passengers were in cryosleep. There were no guarantees for anyone in this universe, and that made this a tale I didn’t want to stop reading.

Last One to the Bridge made my heart race. This is the kind of science fiction I’d recommend to anyone who loves a fast-paced and intense story.

The world building was phenomenal. I loved the fact that the author incorporated scenes from well-known fairy tales and real historical events into the troubles that Deborah, the main character, and her family faced. Not only was it fun to pick out those elements of the plot, they made the early twentieth century come alive in my imagination. I could imagine exactly what it would be like to live in Poland or the United States during that period of time.

I would have preferred to see some more time spent on character development. Deborah and her family made the same mistakes over and over again while they were trying to escape the clutches of the demon who was tormenting them. I was surprised by the fact that they didn’t seem to learn from their previous mistakes, and I would have liked to know why they kept making choices that hadn’t worked out well for them at all in the past.

One of the things I appreciated the most about this story had to do with how witches were treated in it. Deborah was only a little girl when her family realized that she’d inherited her grandmother’s special abilities, and they made sure she had all of the training she needed in order to become proficient at her future occupation. Her talents were seen as a gift, not a curse. While she did require guidance and training, I liked the fact that being a witch was thought of as a positive thing in this universe.

Burning Girls is a must-read for anyone who adores fairy tales.
