He Never Misses A Target

Jake “the Snake” Sommers earned his SEAL code name by striking quickly and quietly-and with lethal force. That’s also how he broke Michelle Carter’s heart. It was the only way to keep her safe-from himself. Four long years later, Jake is determined to get a second chance. But to steal back into Michelle’s loving arms, Jake is going to have to prove he can take things slow. Real slow…

She Aims To Make Him Beg

Michelle Carter has never forgiven Jake for being so cliché as to “love her and leave her.” But when her brother, head of the Black Knights elite ops agency, ticks off the wrong mobster, she must do the unimaginable: place her life in Jake’s hands. No matter what they call him, this man is far from cold-blooded. And once he’s wrapped around her heat, he’ll never let her go…

A full-alert, high-voltage, fraught-with-danger, vicarious experience that is sprinkled with humor and super-charged with breathtaking love is in store for Rev It Up readers. Julie Ann Walker takes the reader into the world of Black Knights Inc.—a black ops organization that does whatever it takes to keep America safe and free without anybody knowing who they are. Some of these tough warriors’ language shocks at times, but it tells much about them and how it is part of the coping methods that keep them sane and alive.

Michelle (Shell) Carter, the Boss Frank Knight’s sister, is no pushover even though she does have a tender heart and a special talent for listening to and caring about others. She is especially protective of her three–year-old son Franklin (he is a darling—so comfortable in his own little skin). Her childhood had been full of insecurity and lack of love, but she was determined Franklin’s would not be that way even though she is a single parent.

When the gorgeous, tattooed, charming exSEAL, Jake “The Snake” reappears after a four year absence, Shell reinforces her defenses. She tells herself, shame on him for fooling me once, shame on me for letting him fool me twice, and NO way, Never, Not-a-chance will he get to fool me again. But fate seems to love a challenge.

Since Jake and fate have a unique connection—a love/hate sort of thing, the air is charged with almost-out-of-control emotions when Shell and Jake meet again. Their explosive relationship adds to the already on-edge situation at Black Knights Inc. Every operative has a fifty thousand dollar price on his or her head, courtesy of a Las Vegas illegal arms dealer Johnny Vitiglioni that has a vendetta against them. When Johnny learned the Black Knights boss had a sister, he deemed it his personal mission to get to her and make Frank Knight pay for what he had done. Adrenaline-pumping events transpire that make breath-holding reading.

With assassins crawling out of the woodwork, all hands are pressed into active duty. Rock, the Cajun, and Vanessa, the communications expert, end up on stakeout together in a “charge-by-the-hour motel. They liven up the story big time. Other secondary characters, each with his or her own specialty, have one thing in common, they know how to fight and kill when necessary—not a faint heart in the bunch.

Readers, who have read Hell On Wheels and In Rides Trouble,  will recognize many of the secondary characters and for those who haven’t, a special treat is in store. Each and every one of the characters has an air of mystery and unique personality that intrigues, right down to the ugly, overweight cat Peanut.

Julie Ann Walker creates a riveting story that assails the senses and churns of emotions. Her ability to make the reader feel the danger, the hurt, the love, and the “in-your-face” attitude, with bits of humor here and there is phenomenal. Rev It Up is a captivating story just like the first two books in this series. If ever two people deserved to find their happy-ever-after it is Shell and Jake—and, of course, that little sweetie Franklin. He is like icing on the cake.

With happy-ever-afters for three of these black ops guys to celebrate, I’m looking for Ms. Walker’s next book in this series to vicariously experience new adventures with Black Knights Inc. as some of the other guys find their soul mates. I’m thinking Rock and Vanessa may find that special connection soon and maybe even Billy and Eve. Of course, I do hope Ozzie, the computer whiz, and Angel, the ex Mossad agent, both have that special someone out there just waiting until the time is right to appear.

As a jaguar he is graceful and gorgeous…

Speedy and stealthy…

Fierce, independent, and wild…

As a man he is passionate and powerful…

Willful and wonderful…

And he’ll stop at nothing to protect what’s his…

Savage Hunger is as steamy a story as the humidity of the jungle it takes place in and is just as dangerous. Take a good look at the wonderful and vibrant cover. See the woman peeking over the shoulder of the hot hunk? That is none other than Kathleen, the heroine, and I have to give the artist credit. Kat has this really saucy and cheeky wit that pops out with a mischievous twinkle in her eye and the artist captured her at a moment of devilish plotting. Poor Connor doesn’t stand a chance.

Ms. Spear cracked me up with what she gave the heroine as her little problem. It placed Kat in quite a few prickly situations that always led to exciting scenes that I couldn’t step away from. Time to eat? “Let it cool down, I’m at a good part.” That’s pretty much how my whole experience was in reading Savage Hunger. Every time I thought things were going to smooth out or they’d have a moment of reprieve, something seemed to happen that compelled me to keep turning the pages. The adventure of discovery, of outwitting the bad guys and staying one step ahead of certain torture and death insured that there wasn’t a dull moment in any of the chapters. Certainly, I didn’t want to stop reading until I got to the final wrap-up and happy ever after.

In addition to Kat’s embarrassing difficulty is the new predicament she finds herself which leads her to experience eating raw fish with its subsequent stinky breath, and stripping at very inconvenient moments. It’s going to take a special kind of guy to guard her when these quirks take place and there’s no better hero than Connor to get the job done.

I enjoyed reading the story in Connor’s point of view. I liked it when he took it in stride when Maya, his sister, and Kat ganged up on him. I loved how protective he was of both women, yet he respected their strengths. His love for his sister came through strongly in the writing. His growing love and wonder over finding as wonderful a mate as Kat was great to read. His sense of honor almost cost him having Kat in his life, but as much as he loved his sister, she loved him just as much and proved it, providing an opportunity for Connor and Kat to bond. It was hit or miss in the beginning and caused its own level of drama and suspense, but the journey was worth it.

A heightened level of drama came from the bad guys. One evil drug lord pulled the strings and he was persistent, deadly and vicious. Every time I thought the trio would finally make headway in getting to safety, someone somewhere would say something that gave the criminals a lead. It drove me nuts but it also allowed the lead characters to show off all that they could do and would do in the name of survival. It didn’t hurt that Ms. Spear threw in an effective hook for another jaguar story. The stalker turned out to be who I thought it was but I’m really hoping that he will indeed turn out to be a good guy and I know just the person who’d be good for him. It didn’t help matters any that Kat’s ex mentioned something that made me think otherwise, but I refuse to be deterred. I think he’d make a great addition to the jaguar family.

Speaking of Kat’s ex-fiancé, he’s a worm. Enough said.

What is awesome to mention is the waterfall scene. Why that water didn’t evaporate from the scorching heat generated between Connor and Kat, I have no idea. It was seductive, effective and a delicious bit of writing. That was my favorite but the author gave the hero and heroine plenty of opportunities to explore, delight and please the other with an intensity that might make a reader or two blush. I had fun.

Some readers might take exception to Kat’s seemingly easy acceptance to her new station in life. Not me. I found it refreshing to not have to deal with drama queen antics on top of life and death situations. What was done was done and Kat, being the practical military woman she is, assessed the benefits versus cons and concluded she was getting everything she ever wanted plus benefits. She just had to survive first to enjoy them.

The happy ever after was satisfying. The author touched base on a lot of little subjects that appeared throughout the story and tied the loose ends up with a huggable ending. Now the only thing left is to read the next book in the series to find out if Maya is going to meet who I think she might meet. I am eagerly looking forward to the next jaguar adventure.

Savage Hunger leaves a reader hungering for more of this awesome and exciting new world that Ms. Spear has created. The author has written a story with a lovable heroine, an alpha hero who’s not obnoxious or overbearing, and a fun sister to tag along and complicate Connor’s life. The food they eat is exotic although the eating establishments are earthy, and they spend more time using trees than Tarzan. This new series is exhilarating and filled with rich and vibrant descriptions to make a reader feel like they’re in the thick of the Amazon jungle. There are moments of humor, of tenderness and pure hot loving. In short, Savage Hunger has the best of all the elements that make readers of paranormal romances happy. Pounce on your own copy and see for yourself.

THE INVINCIBLE NINTH ROMAN LEGION MARCHES FROM YORK TO FIGHT THE NORTHERN TRIBES. AND THEN VANISHES FROM THE PAGES OF HISTORY.

Archaeologist Verity Grey has been drawn to the dark legends of the Scottish Borderlands in search of the truth buried in a rocky field by the sea.

Her eccentric boss has spent his whole life searching for the resting place of the lost Ninth Roman Legion and is convinced he’s finally found it—not because of any scientific evidence, but because a local boy has “seen” a Roman soldier walking in the fields, a ghostly sentinel who guards the bodies of his long-dead comrades.

Here on the windswept shores, Verity may find the answer to one of the great unsolved mysteries of our time. Or she may uncover secrets someone buried for a reason.

Archaeologist Verity Grey, coaxed to a dig by Adrian, a former boyfriend and often a fellow worker, finds a world apart—a world rich with mystery, ghosts and, psychic energy, besides all the incredible people that open up a whole new world for her.

Eyemouth in Scotland, steeped in the lore and the blood of past people that inhabited the land, welcomes Verity into its midst and whispers secrets to her in its mist. Even before she arrives in Eyemouth, things begin to happen. Stuck on a stopped bus, she looks across the moors. Whether it’s the wild wind of Scotland’s Borderlands, the restless spirits of those who’ve come before, or Verity’s imagination, the man striding around bracken and thorn looks like “a spectre from a bygone age, a fearless border laird”. But he is, in truth, just an ordinary man in his thirties, wearing modern jeans and leather jacket. Then again, up close, he is not so ordinary. David Fortuna, broad-shouldered and beautiful, with a Scots brogue hard for Verity to understand, a brogue that vanishes when he realizes she is English, is captivating.

David, while a native of the area, is an archaeologist who lectures at Edinburgh University. He will be working on the same dig she is going to. He soon finds that Verity’s impulsiveness, independence, vivid imagination, and the confusion that seems to follow her around impact not only the dig but the lives of all she meets. He finds her much like his mother, Granny Nan, whom all agree is trawn, meaning one who delights in being difficult and obstinate, yet in a most delightful way. The gentle, slow development of their relationship is revealed in exquisite fashion.

Verity brings energy, expertise, and love of many kinds to her new job. Her name is so true to her personality–Everity, truth, real and enduring.

She connects with characters, both primary and secondary, in ways that endear her to them and them to her. She and the loveable, psychic Robbie relate to each other at once and they connect with the Sentinel. More than connecting to just live characters and the ghost Sentinel, she hears the galloping horses at night, feels the cold presence of the ghost, and feels that presence when special events related to the ghost happen.

She also embraces Peter Quinnell, the eccentric Irishman who believes with all his heart the last marching camp of the Ninth Roman Legion is on his Rosehill estate. Some say he is mad, but he is intelligent, wealthy, and determined to gain respect from the archaeological community, that heretofore has discounted his work. He brings a diverse group together to make it happen. His story, though sad, has a sense of destiny being played out to it. He believes in Robbie’s unwavering declaration that the ghosts of the Sentinel, who was with the Ninth Legion, walks about and tries to talk to Robbie.

The many secondary characters like Adrian; Granny Nan; Fabia, Peter’s granddaughter; Brian, Robbie’s dad; Jeannie, Robbie’s mom and the cook/housekeeper for Peter play dynamic roles in the unfolding of this mesmerizing story.

Susanna Kearsley weaves together a fantastic tale full of humor, historical facts, lore, legends, psychic phenomena, modern-day smuggling, and human beings interacting with each other—interactions that are full of twists and turns. Her use of symbolism charms the senses, especially the story of the swan of Eyemouth River. She tells the story in first-person and takes the reader along for every moment of frustration, fun, fear, falsehood, and most especially for the awakening of a forever faithful love.

The Shadowy Horses is a keeper that can be enjoyed again and again. It has layers and layers of actions, relationships, and emotions to be pondered.

Tribred Gregor Caine decided long ago to deny his blood legacy, so he isn’t thrilled when paired with a full-blooded Fae to hunt the demons threatening to decimate Los Angeles. As they fight side by side, he finds she calls to both his Fae and his demon blood; a call he can’t resist.

Warrior Fae Serra Willows crossed into the Human Plane to help destroy the demons released from the Chaos Plane. Finding and shutting down the portal between worlds is more challenging than she expected…and Gregor and his world more seductive than she had ever imagined.

As the killings escalate, Gregor and Serra realize one of the most deadly demons from the Chaos Plane has marked Serra as his own. To save her, Gregor has to face his greatest fear—losing his humanity to the darkness in his blood. But in a race against time, that darkness could become his greatest strength. And he will kill to claim Serra’s love.

Wow.  I haven’t read a book in a while that I enjoyed this much!

First, let me say that, although this is the second book in the series I didn’t feel lost. I do think my experience would have been even richer if I’d read the first book (and I plan on rectifying that immediately), but Demon Hunt stands strongly on its own.  Very strongly.

The author has created a paranormal world that fits neatly into our own.  Her characters aren’t over-the-top different, even Serra the Fae warrior (well, aside from what happens to her when she has sex for the first time with our hero… I loved that!).  Except for her ability to create firebolts and make the earth shake, she seems much like you and me and even has a love of jeans and other human clothing.

And Gregor?  He really wants to be normal.  He’s in denial of his powers and refuses to acknowledge them, even when they start whapping him upside the head.  It reminds me of an ostrich with its head in the sand, or a child with fingers in their ears, “lalalala… I don’t hear you!”.  Eventually, though, Gregor has to confront those powers.  He has no choice.

The author has serious skill with words, and creates her world with enough description to make sure we can see it, but not so much that we’re being knocked over the head with it. She’s a true master of “show don’t tell” and I really enjoyed her voice.

The romance and sexual tension simmers throughout with the occasional flash bang when they can’t ignore their feelings anymore.  It’s sweet. It’s hot. And quite believable, despite the speed with which it happens and the occasional inappropriate feelings of desire (like when they’re fighting a demon).

The secondary characters were just as well-rounded as the main protagonists.  I was nearly as wrapped up in Justin’s story as I was in Gregor’s!  The Caine brothers are fascinating men, and I can’t wait to dive into book one to see what I missed.

Looking for a paranormal story full of equal parts action and romance?  Want a book that keeps you completely entertained and turning pages to see what happens next?  Look no further than Demon Hunt.  I hope book three comes out soon.

From “Lucky” to “Lady Boss” to “Vendetta: Lucky’s Revenge” and “Dangerous Kiss”… Jackie Collins’ sizzling Lucky Santangelo saga all began with CHANCES.

The book that made Jackie Collins one of America’s favorite authors sweeps you from the sophisticated playgrounds of Europe to the glittering gambling palaces of Las Vegas.

It plunges you into the reckless, dangerous world of the Santangelo crime family. It introduces you to Gino Santangelo, the street kid who makes it all the way to the top.

And then brings you Lucky—his sensual, stunningly beautiful, and passionate daughter; a woman who dares to win her father’s empire for herself; a woman unafraid of taking… CHANCES.

Filled with suspenseful, action packed, vivid characters, steamy sex, a vintage world, violence and action, this is a story that will keep you turning pages with its suspense. Set mostly in the 1920s and 1970s, the books flips between the two and touches the decades in between as well, following the lives of vibrant, memorable characters. Gino is something else, coming from such humble beginnings to change his life. He may do questionable things, but he shows he has a heart as well. His daughter Lucky is just as dynamic as he is. She gets into her own share of trouble and is sometimes misunderstood by her father, a man she adores—mostly. Carrie is such a strong character that she is inspiring. The things she survives…

The story flows effortlessly, bringing the reader along on an adventure with details so rich it’s almost like watching a movie. The characters are complex. One can sympathize with their suffering even though a few of them are tainted. When these characters do bad things though, they have their reasons. The leads are very strong, surviving against great odds amongst poverty and dire circumstances to finally live in privilege. They work hard, they play hard, and they face extreme danger.

The sex scenes would make some people blush. Reading this story will give one a glimpse into the world of the other side, how the mob lives. The vintage aspects are interesting as well. It’s fun to read about characters trying to make it in bygone eras.

Fans of The Godfather books and movies should check out this book. It’s the first in a series, epic in scope, following an intriguing family.

A second chance at love is worth fighting for.

Bandicoot Cove: The Wedding, Book 1

Bianca Rogers is one signature away from finalizing her divorce. And she will finalize it just as soon as she gets home. But for this weekend, she’s putting her troubles aside and enjoying the gorgeous, sunlit luxury of Bandicoot Cove, the resort where her brother is getting married. The last thing she expects is to be knocked off her feet—literally—by gorgeous Brody Evans.

The fireworks are instantaneous. Brody is just her type: sexy, warm, friendly, and in the same boat as her: in the process of getting a divorce.

Spending time together is a mutual no-brainer. Attraction quickly grows to full-blown lust. But flying sparks come with increasingly personal conversations, and soon neither of them can ignore their past mistakes or the circumstances that have led them to the island.

Now it’s time to determine whether old hurts and sudden doubts will prevent love from leading them to a whole new happily ever after.

I absolutely love Jess Dee’s works and this book was a great example of why. I was engrossed from the beginning and surprised by the twist in the story. I felt for these characters and I rooted and cheered for them as well. “Afternoon Rhapsody” reminded me of why I have Jess Dee marked as a “must purchase from” author in my favorite’s folder.

Quite simply, Ms Dee’s books are exciting, hot, and entertaining. She provides much fuel to keep the fantasy lamp burning for many hours.

Bianca Rogers is at a resort on an island called Bandicoot Cove for her brother’s wedding. She is soon going to be among the group called recently-divorced. While she is at the luxury, tropical resort why not have a little fun with a fling on the side? After all, she has only ever been with one man, her soon to be former husband and now she is ready to try and move on with her life. Since literally running into sexy and gorgeous Brody Evans, she finds herself swept up in a whirlwind romance that takes her breath away. Brody is everything you could want in a lover; sexy, scrumptious, witty and charming. As their chemistry explodes into full-blown explosive lust, the couple soon cannot keep their hands off of each other.

Brody Evans is completely blown away by the lovely Bianca Rogers, especially since she literally falls all over him. She is sexy, warm and beautiful. He finds he has a lot in common with Bianca as he too is on the verge of finalizing a divorce. Soon their romance turns into more personal territory and the couple finds themselves facing their issues with love and marriage, and whether they are ready to move on pass the hurts of the past. Can this couple find a lasting connection again and do they proceed with a second chance at love?

Not only was this book hot nough to burn the pages, but Ms. Dee made the characters believable and entertaining. This smooth flowing story completely grabbed my interest from the very first paragraph. I was enthralled by the immediate chemistry of the two main characters and I thoroughly enjoyed the sizzling and sexy love scenes. I thought the story was well written and thought provoking as these characters find themselves having to face life’s issues, many of which have been left unresolved. This romance was emotionally turbulent thus making the reader feel as though it was a real scenario instead of fiction. As always, it is a privilege to read the wonderful works of fiction that this erotic romance author has created. Ms. Dee is extremely talented and I find myself anxiously anticipating her next book.

If you are looking for a great erotic romance story to read this week…well look no further than “Afternoon Rhapsody”. Let a little island romance take you away!

No one could have planned for this…

Lara Carson left her family and boyfriend Flynn eighteen years ago without a word to anyone. Why has no one heard from her since? Does it mean anything that she’s suddenly reappeared in Bath just in time for her ex–best friend Evie’s wedding? And what about Flynn? Even the most eagle–eyed observer can’t tell whether he’s happy to see her, or just stunned.

While secrets pile up on secrets, and the gossip mill wings into high gear, the brand–new life Lara’s searching for becomes ever more elusive. There’s a lot of catching up for everyone to do, and Lara’s return is going to be anything but a walk in the park.

One downside to getting into really good book is reading the last sentence. The sad feeling that you’re saying goodbye to characters you’ve come to know and love. That’s what happened to me after reading A Walk In The Park. It held me captivated and longing to find the time to read more. I think a big part of its appeal for me was the wonderful characters that Ms. Mansell created. Not just the main ones, but secondary characters too. Every one of them was painstakingly crafted making them jump off the page. I felt like I knew everyone of them and they came across as very lifelike to me.

Besides the people who lived in this book, the plot was great too. Just when I thought the author was taking the story one way (and convinced myself I knew what would happen next) she took me by surprise, revealing things I hadn’t seen coming.

There’s more than one romance that develops in this story and each one is fun to follow. I must say I was pulling for Lara and Flynn from the moment they reconnected. As I read on I hoped I wouldn’t be disappointed.

I should also give a mention to the setting, which is Bath in the UK and having been there myself many times I can say that the author did a wonderful job using it as the backdrop for the story. It was almost like revisiting the city all over again.

This is the first book I’ve ever read by Ms. Mansell but it won’t be the last. If you’re looking for a great book to add to your fall to read list, I highly recommend this one.

Welcome to Oldham, CT, a small town rich in Colonial heritage while being utterly contemporary. Situated along the Connecticut River Valley, Oldham bursts with color every fall, as the leaves on its trees evolve into an unmatched palette of scarlet, orange, purple, yellow, and bronze. For more than three decades, the Gold family has been a central part of Oldham in the fall, its Sugar Maple Inn a destination for “leaf-peepers” from all over the country, and its annual Halloween party a stirring way to punctuate the town’s most active month.

But this year, more than just the leaves are changing. With the death of their parents, the Gold siblings, Maria, Maxwell, Deborah, Corrina, and Tyler, have decided to sell the Sugar Maple Inn, and this year’s Halloween party will be the last. As October begins, the Golds contend with the finality that faces them, and the implications it has for a family that has always been so close. For some, it means embracing new challenges and new love. For others, it means taking on unimagined roles. And for others, it means considering the inconceivable. Complicating it all is a series of “hauntings” that touch each of the Gold siblings, a series of benign interventions that will remain a mystery until October draws to a close.

“…they’d exchanged the sense of intimacy they always had between them for the assumption of intimacy.” This profound remark is a theme that resonates throughout the story.

Even though this is a remark made about one couple’s relationship, it is evident in many of the ‘so-human’ characters’ relationships. The change from one type of intimacy to the other happens so subtly that it is hardly noticeable until suddenly despair and discontent set in. The reader sees the people, once so in tune with each other, no longer share meaningful conversations. They let awareness of each others’ needs slip away. They stop feeling contented pleasure in doing things together or just ‘being’ together. They no longer feel that special jolt of joy in just seeing each other across the room and their lovemaking loses the all-consuming sharing that engages body, mind, and spirit and transports them as one to ecstasy. How they cope and overcome or succumb keeps one’s rapt attention.

While the Gold siblings are still grieving the death of their parents, life goes on and must be dealt with. The Sugar Maple Inn that seems a symbol of their lives with their parents is sold and a last hurrah—the traditional Halloween party—is to be organized and the community invited. The reader is pulled into the fray and sees personality traits emerge that intrigue.

Tyler, the youngest of the Gold siblings, not only grieves the loss of his parents; he also is adrift after Patrice, his love for the last five years, steps away from their relationship; added to that his photography business is alarmingly slow. His less than enthusiastic interest in being in charge of the decorations for the Halloween party is understandable. Even his relationship with the siblings he has been closest to through the years seems to be on shaky ground. The ups and downs of his coping process range from heart-breaking to humorous. Just when he needs it most a memory comes—in a most unusual way. He remembers his special relationship with his sister Deborah. It seems to bring peace and helps him get his act together.

Deborah, the head chef at the Inn, has lost her anchor. How does she move on? The near panic she feels at times and the “foodie” (so much like her) that she meets keeps her life on a rollercoaster through much of the story. Of course, dealing with Corrina, her bossy sister who feels compelled to order everybody around, often without the desired results, is one of the most complicated of the siblings. Her hurts that she keeps to herself are overwhelming. With a husband who begrudges her his time and a stepson that needs more help than she can or knows how to give, she is stressed to the max much of the time with no relief to come. Maybe in another book Mr. Baron will help her find a happy-ever-after.

Maria, though suffering from empty-nest syndrome, brings music and hope to the story. Her husband has lost touch with her as a person, but she perseveres and bridges some gaps while still reaching for her own dreams and connecting with their daughter Olivia in a special way. The music she brings to mind brings back great memories for this reader. Lots of good things ahead it seems.

Maxwell, the oldest sibling, and his wife Annie, a discontented soul that longs for more in life than to be Joey’s mom and Maxwell’s wife, weave a discordant note through the story that keeps the reader a little on edge. Maxwell’s political life absorbs his time. He seems not to see the seriousness of Annie’s need. He just takes care of little two-year-old, hyper Joey when she says she has to be away for awhile and makes plans for his future. His blindness to Annie’s need does not bode well for their future.

Michael Baron takes these complex characters, places them in a quiet little town in Connecticut among people they have known and have known them all their lives; sprinkles in a few newcomers; adds October the most colorful, beautiful month of their year; and invites the reader in for a enthralling vicarious experience. The special memory that each sibling has that helps them repair the frayed relationships with each other is a touch of supernatural that gives a haunting quality the story. The precious memories the reader gets to vicariously share with each of the Gold siblings and the “joint hallucination” they all share is heart-warming.

The charm of Michael Baron’s writing brings a special polish to a poignant story, making it sparkle and enchant like October leaves in New England.

Rough Riders, Book 13

Georgia Hotchkiss swore wild horses couldn’t drag her back to Sundance, Wyoming. So it’s ironic she’s forced to take a rodeo PR job in her former hometown—right before her ten-year class reunion. The only thing worse than facing her cheating ex-husband and his pregnant wife? Showing up to the reunion without a date. Fate smiles on her when she runs into her former classmate and current cowboy hottie Tell McKay. With his infectious smile and fun-loving ways—not to mention his banging body—he’s the perfect solution to her problem.

Tell McKay had it so bad for Hot Lips Hotchkiss during high school that he let her run roughshod over him. But he is no longer that easily manipulated boy—these days he’s earned a reputation with the ladies that lives up to the McKay last name. He agrees to escort her to the reunion with one stipulation; that Georgia proves she has left behind the goody-goody cheerleader of the past—by sharing his bed.

Their sexual chemistry flashes so bright, they barely notice that the reunion has come and gone, and now they’re tangled up in another dreaded “R” word—relationship. But if Tell wants to get the girl this go-around, he’ll have to come up with a whole new set of knots to tie up her heartstrings.

Lorelei James has heated up the pages yet again with this thirteenth book in the Rough Riders series. Hot flashes took on a whole new meaning while reading this sexy cowboy tale. Ms. James’ books are so sizzling that one might need to call the fire department before reading, just to stand by in case of spontaneous combustion. Even though I have loved every one of these cowboy fantasies in the “Rough Rider” series, I have to say “Kissin’ Tell” definitely did not disappoint. Every fantasy needs a scrumptious cowboy like Tell McKay to spice it up.

Georgia Hotchkiss was Tell McKay’s secret high school crush once upon a time. A gorgeous cheerleader, Georgia took advantage of Tell’s friendship in high school never realizing that Tell secretly drooled over her. Georgia eventually ignored Tell’s interest and married the jerk who was also the most popular guy in school, only to catch him cheating on her during their brief marriage.

Now ten years later, Georgia lives in another town away from Sundance and the bad memories that her hometown carries for her. Georgia has no reason to ever go back to Sundance until her boss tells her to promote a rodeo event there. Naturally with Georgia’s luck as of late, she lands back home right before her ten year high school class reunion. Can Georgia handle facing her ex-husband and the woman he cheated on her with and their baby on the way?

Maybe it won’t be as bad as she imagines especially when she runs into “hottie” Tell McKay again, after-all Tell is the sexiest man she has seen in a long, long time and the chemistry between them is absolutely combustible. Georgia finds herself stepping out of her shell and living a little when she agrees to be fun-loving Tell’s girlfriend during the her stay in Sundance.

Tell is not the naive kid he was in high school, so it isn’t a big surprise that he plans to take Georgia to his bed now that they are adults and show her all the fantasies he had about her in true living-color. After all, a bargain is a bargain, and he agrees to escort her to the reunion, but she has to fulfill her end of the bargain by being his girlfriend in every way. What Tell does not realize is that chemistry can sometimes turn into deeper feelings when you least expect them to.

Two important statements can sum up my review: this book was very well written and I found myself reading it non-stop.  As with all of Lorelei James’ books, I found myself completely hooked from the beginning and pulled right into the story.

What is not to love about a “sweet-talkin’, smokin-hot” cowboy with the body of a rodeo-god?

I know I found myself day-dreaming about Kissin’ Tell more than once. I love the fact that Ms. James gives her characters depth by showing us their family life as well as giving us a glimpse into her previous books leading characters as well as future story leaders. You feel as though you know the McKay family personally. This story not only gives us detailed descriptions of Sundance Wyoming but we also find ourselves seeing the “cowboy” life and discovering that despite the fact this is a work of fiction, we can relate to the dramatics of their troubles. Good story, great reading and hot scenes! I had to give this book my official A+.

A newborn baby is found wedged in a vanity cabinet in a rundown apartment near Montreal.

Dr Temperance Brennan, forensic anthropologist to the province of Quebec, is brought in to investigate. While there, she discovers the mummified remains of two more babies within the same room.

Shocked and distressed, Tempe must use all her skills and inner strength to focus on the facts. But when the autopsies reveal that the children died of unnatural causes, the hunt for the mother – a young woman with a seedy past and at least three aliases – is on.

The trail leads Tempe to Yellowknife, a cold, desolate diamond-mining town on the edge of the Arctic Circle, where her quest for the truth only throws up more questions, more secrets, and more dead bodies.

Taking risks and working alone, Tempe refuses to give up until she has discovered why the babies died. But in such a hostile environment, can she avoid being the next victim?

When the body of a newborn is found stuffed under a bathroom vanity in a dingy Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec apartment, the call goes out to forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan. As the Quebec police search the apartment, two more tiny bodies, mummified, are found hidden. With no sign of the mother, Brennan and detective Andrew Ryan are determined to track down the elusive mother and find justice for the little ones. When they travel to the town where she lived before Saint-Hyacinthe, yet another tiny body is found, and everyone is frantic to find the woman. When the trail leads to the Northlands of Canada, things start to get tangled with other crimes, all connected to the family of the mother. As people keep dying, Brennan becomes enmeshed in a fight for her life, as well ass stopping the murderers from stealing an innocent woman’s only faamily legacy. Add in an obnoxious ex lover or two, and things become sticky. Can Brennan find the mother before things get out of control? Can she stop the crooks from bilking everyone involved? Can she stay alive long enough to solve this latest case to the satisfaction of all concerned?

I want to say, I have been a big fan of Kathy Reichs and her Temperance Brennan books from the very first one. I have enjoyed watching as Temperance has grown, using her brains to get ahead, not caring for all the red tape and maneuvering so prevalent in police procedure. The glimpses into lab procedure and the historic desciptions of the Northern Diamond Rush are wonderful, and I was surprised to know that Canada is a large producer of diamonds. The research here is flawless and fascinating, and I was inspired to read more about it.

Temperance Brennan is her usual efficient and capable scientist here, but she is also a mother, and feels a bit of sympathy for these poor abandoned babies. And she is determined to track down the mother and bring her to justice for these four innocents lost too soon. One other thing about Brennan, is her ability to see past the surface, and as she learns more about the missing Annaliese (or Amy/Alma/Alice), she discovers a simple girl, unable to understand life, and scared for her life.

There are the usual cast of supporting characters here, if not present, then at least mentioned throughout: Brennan’s ex-husband Pete, her daughter Katy, who throws Brennan a real curve ball of a surprise, and the staff at Laboratoire de sciences judiciaires et de medecine legale in Montreal, Brennan’s Canadian base. Add in two former lovers, Andrew Ryan and Oliver ‘Ollie’ Hasty of the Edmonton police, a man from Brennan’s days at Quantico, and the atmoshere gets tense at times. But in spite of her past with these two, Brennan is all buiness here, as she gets caught up in the chase to catch the killer or killers before they catch up to her.

All in all, this book kept me up reading long after I should have been sleeping, with edge of my seat danger and tangled webs of deceit around every corner. Kathy Reichs once again proves why I have followed Temperance Brennan on her adventures, and satisfies one more time.
