Moving from the hills above Nice to the canals and romance of Venice and the riot-filled streets of Libya, Secrets From The Past is a moving and emotional story of secrets, survival and love in its many guises. Thirty-year old Serena Stone is a war photographer who has followed in her famous father’s footsteps. But after eight years, the danger and adrenaline rush take their toll. When her legendary father dies unexpectedly, she steps away from the war zone to reassess her life. Serena begins to write her father’s biography, takes the first chapters to Harry Redford, his best friend and frontline colleague. Harry asks Serena to go to Venice to look after her former lover and colleague, Zachary North, who has come out of the Afghan battlefields suffering from mental and physical exhaustion. Against her better judgment, Serena agrees to go to Zac’s side… It is Zac who offers to help her tackle her father’s huge legacy of iconic photographs. One collection about Venice, entitled La Serenissima, has never been seen before. It is among these images that Serena stumbles across pictures that threaten to turn her world upside down. In search of the truth about her father, her family and her own life, Serena traces the secrets of the past in a quest to understand a story from decades earlier.

With very contemporary – even ‘in the news’ kind of content, Barbara Taylor Bradford’s new novel delivers both powerful romance and believable intrigue. It is also a little edgier than most contemporary romances, really dealing, on a very personal level, with the individual’s struggles with aftermath of war.

Serena Stone works as a photojournalist in some of the most war-ravaged places on the planet. The finality of a death –inability to reconcile or complete some phases of a relationship, marks the opening. The horror of war, as well as regrets, create a very dark backdrop that gives impact to the emotional content.
And with every growing age in this polluted and generico viagra on line populated world, a speedy diagnosing has become very efficient and has been well obtained by most men, a few slight side-effects are possible. Zac, Serena’s former lover – a relational that still evokes strong feelings of regrets and anger – is re-introduced to her life. With him, she begins what seems an innocent project; a photographed documentary collection of her father’s works…that suddenly leads to the unexpected. Photographs in Venice suggest something of another life, and Serena is forced to face questions about her family, and relationships, that she did not expect.

Zac is not the man he once was – not less, but somehow, more. He’s suffered, he’s been in violent situations, he seems, at times, dangerous. We all so want to Serena believe that his emotions are more heartfelt, his apologies honest – you cannot help but think that the Zac she aids today is a more genuine person than ever before. And, we discover that Serena was less than 100% truthful to him…we start to believe there is hope for these two, yet.

Everything you expect from a Barbara Taylor Bradford book is there – the well-developed relationships, depth of characters/family relationships, the twists in the plot that make it all so unpredictable.

While some readers might favor some of Barbara Taylor Bradford’s earlier works, I love that she still produces strong, self-actualized female characters and that she does indeed confront very contemporary issues. Style and story – it all goes hand-in-hand here. Her work is still head and shoulders above the best out there today. Secrets from the Past must go on your summer reading list.

Your Choice. Your Faith. Your Fate.

1564: Catholic herald William Harley, known as Clarenceux, guards a highly dangerous document. It’s a manuscript he’d rather not have—destruction and death have followed in its wake. But things get much worse when the document is stolen, and he plunges into a nightmare of suspicion, deception, and conspiracy. As England teeters on the brink of a bloody conflict, Clarenceux knows the fate of the country and countless lives hang in the balance. The roots of betrayal are deep and shocking, and the herald’s journey toward the truth entails not just the discovery of clues and signs, but also of himself.

In this brilliant new Elizabethan conspiracy from the internationally acclaimed author of Sacred Treason, faith and fear stir up a powerful story of loyalty, lies, and secrets.

Most of us think of a thriller as something set in contemporary times but after reading The Roots of Betrayal, historical can also fit into that category. I’ll admit that anything set in Tudor and Elizabethan times gets my attention but Mr. Forrester has created a nail biting page turner for just about any fan of historical fiction.

Although this book is over four hundred pages long, it’s a quick read due to its top-notch pacing and your need to find out what happens next. He does a wonderful job describing the setting and dress of the times and you feel totally immersed in all things Elizabethan, especially the London locales.

The characters are all richly drawn which I felt added another level to this strong plot. I haven’t read anything else by this author before but will definitely be checking out his previous and future works.

If you’re tired of contemporary settings but still want to get lost in an intriguing plot I’d highly recommend this book to you.

When Ginny Holland’s daughter heads off to university, Ginny is left with a severe case of empty nest syndrome. To make matters worse, the first gorgeous man she’s laid eyes on in years has just accused her of shoplifting. So, in need of a bit of company, Ginny decides to advertise for a lodger, but what she gets is lovelorn Laurel. With Laurel comes her dangerously charming brother, Perry and the offer of a great new job, and things begin looking up…until Ginny realizes that her potential boss is all too familiar. Is it too late for Ginny to set things right after an anything but desirable first impression?

Thinking of You is the second book I’ve read by Jill Mansell, and just like the first one it was an enjoyable read from first page to last. One thing I love about her books is they’re full of three dimensional characters who seem to become more real with each chapter you read. In fact, all the characters are so wonderful that you’re not sure who to cheer for.

A common element with her books is characters facing issues we all have, or will face, like falling out with friends, children leaving home, the empty nest syndrome, fearing it’s too late to do something with your life. There’s always at least one character you can identify with which I think adds to the enjoyment of the book.

The dialogue between all the characters is also life-like. Some of them are quirky which I think adds to the fun factor of reading a story by Ms. Mansell. She also does a wonderful job with the setting and the description of places like Gem’s flat at the university and Finn’s restaurant.

Despite its four hundred plus pages, the pacing is spot own and you find yourself half way through the book before you realize it.

If you enjoy women’s fiction with a touch of British Chick Lit thrown in, I think this is probably the ideal pick for you.

Knox was born into one of the City’s wealthiest families. A Patron, he has everything a boy could possibly want—the latest tech, the coolest clothes, and a Proxy to take all his punishments. When Knox breaks a vase, Syd is beaten. When Knox plays a practical joke, Syd is forced to haul rocks. And when Knox crashes a car, killing one of his friends, Syd is branded and sentenced to death.

Syd is a Proxy. His life is not his own.

Then again, neither is Knox’s. Knox and Syd have more in common than either would guess. So when Knox and Syd realize that the only way to beat the system is to save each other, they flee. Yet Knox’s father is no ordinary Patron, and Syd is no ordinary Proxy. The ensuing cross-country chase will uncover a secret society of rebels, test both boys’ resolve, and shine a blinding light onto a world of those who owe and those who pay. Some debts, it turns out, cannot be repaid.

What caught my eye about this book in the beginning was the title: Proxy. Since I worked in municipal government in the past, I knew that meant you were using someone as a stand-in for you. I was really hooked when I found out that being proxy in this story means you receive all the punishment that your patron deserves. What kind of a world was this?

Mr. London writes a very intense story that grabs your attention right at the beginning. The world he creates is definitely a world of haves and have nots. The have nots have nothing, the patrons have everything. And even the very rich wish to be richer. No two worlds could be more different and these “worlds” are part of the same one. The author makes all his characters strong. They are driven by different motivations, but no one is weak.

The two main characters are Knox, the spoiled patron, and Syd, his proxy. Syd has been beaten, tortured, and made to work in grueling jobs just to pay for Knox’s transgressions. They never see each other, although Knox has seen him punished before on video. Knox just can’t seem to care much about it. So his father decides it’s time for him to learn a lesson. He lets him steal a car and then waits for him to injure himself. When Knox next awakens, he’s in the hospital and has killed the girl he had with him. Syd has to give half his blood to Knox to keep Knox alive and now he’ll be punished for the girl’s death.

By pure chance, the two boys connect and begin running from Knox’s father. While this sounds far-fetched, the author does a very good job of making it seem feasible and normal for this world. The world outside the compound is nothing like they thought, friends are not what they seemed, the dead girl is alive, and the two boys don’t hate each other.

Mr. London does an excellent job of creating a dystopian world full of sinister plots, dangers around every corner, and lots of tensions between the three characters who are on the run. What really shocked me was his ending. It’s one of the most ironic endings I’ve read in a long time. The whole story impressed me so much, I’m keeping my ARC of this book for my personal library. I can read this one again and see more in the story. I was reading so fast this time, I might have missed some. The best news: There will be more in this series.

If you have any interest in dystopian fantasy or future worlds or just plain good science fiction, you’ll want to read Proxy. It’s written for young adults, but it’s a keeper for me and I’m an older adult. Give it chance or you won’t know what you’re missing.

Dr. Joyce Yards has never met anyone as sexy or as irresistible as 466. He refuses to discuss anything except getting her naked beneath him. Their therapy sessions are growing hotter, his raw hunger for her is becoming aggressive, and she is falling for him. Joy knows the dire consequences if she gives in to desire. It will break her heart but she must walk away.

Moon has been drugged. He is feral and dangerous to everyone. The NSO doctors turn to the only female Moon ever cared about—the one who left him in the desert two years ago.

Moon isn’t the same male Joy once knew but she is willing to put her life on the line for him. There are no rules now. If sex tames the wild beast and triggers his fractured memories, allowing him moments of lucidity, then Joy will give him her body and her soul. She’ll do whatever it takes to save him?

Moon was a fun and exciting read and I enjoyed every minute of this reading experience… in fact, I loved it!

The story picks up where Shadow ended, with Moon having been shot with a toxic dart that left him in a feral state, so this book wouldn’t be considered a standalone read. The NSO calls in the Doc (head shrink, lol… that cracked me up) to help bring him back. Joy had treated him after the NS rescue and they had developed a meaningful relationship. But complications had got in the way and so she had cut and run… leaving Moon with some unresolved feelings. She jumped at the chance to help him and pretty much came running at a moments notice.

It was glaringly obvious that, even in his crazed state of mind, Moon remembered Joy. The feelings were still there and he responded to her even though it soon became clear that she might not be able to save him. Still she gave it one heck of a try and was willing to sacrifice anything to bring him out of it. And even if she does get through, he has moved on with his life so he might not be the same person he had been before.

Further complicating things was that Moon had went so far as to share his feelings of betrayal with his pals. That caused a few problems for the good Doc and I got a little upset on her behalf.

There is very little external conflict in this book. That’s a good thing, though. It allowed the story to center more around the romantic relationship. It runs the gamut of emotions and encompasses a lot of feelings. From the desperation and devotion that Joy shows for Moon to her regret at leaving him. It explores his anger and resentment that she left him. They both deal with a wealth of fear. Her fear for his survival and that he won’t forgive her… that he will reject her. His despair and frustration and fear that she will walk away again. This one may not have had as much action and suspense as I’ve come to expect from Dohner… but it definitely made up for it with it’s tremendous wealth of emotions. I just loved that part and really got into the story.

I love this world that Ms. Dohner has created and how she portrays the NS characters. This allows me to become invested in her stories as she gives them a depth of emotion and admirable traits that I myself admire. Honor, honesty and protective of their own. I love those things even more than I do the steamy love scenes that she brings to her story. With that being said, I am all about the love. Overall, the story is very romantic and the love scenes were aplenty. Explicit but not dirty. I could have gone for some more but how many could they get into in his cell and after he regains his senses and is so angry at her.

I’m glad that Dohner told the story the way that she did. Outside conflict would have confused the story that was meant to be about healing and finding their way back to each other. Really, there was no other way to present it. At least that was what I got from the story. Dohner kept the story tight. The timeline flowed perfectly and I liked how the past never interfered with the current story. As the story went along, I was given the back story and an explanation for why she broke his heart. Suffice it to say that her reasons were valid ones and that I bought into her explanation. Just as I understood his anger.

When I read a book it is important to me that I be able to get a feel for the characters, that I understand them. As always, Dohner did that with this one. She pulled me into the story, got me interested in what was going on and what might happen. I actually felt the frustration and fear that she was conveying in the characters. That depth of character that she brings to her stories is what makes her one of my favorite authors.

What I am trying to explain, in my roundabout way, is that this was a wonderful story. I loved it and can’t say enough good things about it. Ms. Dohner did an outstanding job and I liked the way she told the story. I liked the mate that she gave to one of my favorite NS characters, almost as much as I liked Moon himself.

As this series rolls on, I find that I just can’t get enough of those New Species and Laurann Dohner’s talented storytelling. I am always left anxiously awaiting the next one and by the way… I’m wondering when that will be.

He and Angela sense there is a link between them but until the threat to Divine’s Emporium is over, neither is willing to take a step into the past.

I love these books. They always make me feel as if I’m sitting in front of a roaring fire with a mug of hot chocolate, relaxing as I read the book. Ms Levigne has a marvelous way of showing me the world she has created and making me believe all I read. Well written and wonderful. Great book.

Vicki Hansol has a bad rep as a white trash trouble maker. Sometimes she lets her temper get away, but darn it, she’s got good reason.Vicki’s not the same as her mom and sister. She doesn’t sleep around and she’s not looking for a sugar daddy. But it’s hard as hell to live down a bad reputation, deserved or not. So when opportunity comes knocking, Vicki jumps at the chance to get the hell out of dodge. But first she’s going to need help getting over her personal phobia. She lowers her stubborn pride and asks sexy Joel Coleman for the help she needs.

Joel has a naughty reputation of his own. He and his twin have been known to share a woman or two. But Joel has been growing up and he’s tired of backing Jessie’s play. He’s had his eye on Vicki, so he’s happy to give her all the help she wants. In bed and out.

Vicki was a heroine after my own heart. She was a spunky gal who caught some bad breaks because of her family. Joel was the kind of man that we all dream about finding. Protective of Vicki right from the start, he easily won my heart and cemented his place as favored Coleman hottie. Making their romance even more credible was the realization that these lovers had a lot in common. They both wanted to ditch the notoriety of their pasts and sometimes that is difficult to do . Much of the tension and conflict of this story stemmed from Vicki and Joel’s fight to overcome their pasts and grab onto a new future. The author made this glaringly clear with all the disapproval and harassment that the heroine had to endear. Even from some of the usually open minded Coleman clan.

What was disappointing was the rift that opened up between Joel and his twin, Jessie. It was sad to see how truly nasty Jessie acted toward Vicki. I could not decide if he was jealous because his brother didn’t want to share or because Joel was growing away from him.Yet I found myself intrigued by this darker side to Jessie, that is sure to bring an exciting story on down the road. After all, readers do love a bad boy.

I found this story emotionally heart wrenching. Trying to refrain from judging a book by it’s cover ? Far easier said than done. And I feel that the underlying lesson here is that even the best people sometimes judge without knowing the real person. The plot flew with an ease that kept me engaged in this story from start to finish. I could not put it down and read it in one sitting. I was totally entranced by the story and how things kept changing between Vicki and Joel. What started out as a few lessons in life turned into some lessons in love.

Rocky Mountain Rebel is book #5 in Vivian Arend’s ever popular Canadian cowboy series, Six Pack Ranch. Overflowing with angst, it is by far my favorite book in the series and I enjoyed every minute of it.  It is one read that you do not want to miss, and I happily recommend it to all contemporary romance readers.

Single Mom Katy Roth thinks life can’t get any worse. In the past six months she’s been let go at work, had to move back home with her parents, and found out her ex is cutting his child support payment. As Thanksgiving approaches, she finds little to be thankful for in a life that is quickly spinning out of control.

Joe Mason is the town’s bad boy. Literally. He’s just returned from a four year stint in prison. He wants nothing more than to put the past behind him and get on with his life. He’s had a secret crush on Katy since grade school, but when Katy’s parents hire him to be their handyman, she’s less than thrilled to have him around.

But soon, through her young son’s eyes, Katy discovers the good in Joe. As their feelings for one another deepen, small town gossip and prejudice threaten to ruin everything. Will Joe’s past come between them, or will they be able to get beyond it and hold onto a love neither expected?

Bad boys are popular, from rogues and rakes in historical romances, to tattooed musicians in contemporary romance novels. I have nothing against them, but too many is never good. There is another problem with bad boys especially in real life – most of them stay bad. But in novels it is very common to see them reformed under the magic spell of true love. Therefore, from time to time I discover a different approach to the transformation from bad boy to good and it’s more than welcome. This is exactly the main reason why I liked Debra St. John’s An Unexpected Blessing.

An Unexpected Blessing features Joe Mason who spent some time in prison and his past is not a rosy one. He is well aware of his transgressions, and now that he has served his time he wants to just lead a normal life. Joe Mason is a bad boy, but at the very beginning of the story he is also reformed one, but not by the love of the heroine – Katy Roth – or through his love for her, but because he learned his lesson in prison. What actually stands between him and his path to a happy life is the small-minded community into which he returned. Fortunately, with Katy’s help and love he realized that if love is a true one than it will conquer all; prejudices, gossips and fears.

As I already mentioned, I liked this story because there was a shift from the usual bad boy transformation. I also liked it because the author wrote a small town mentality so realistically and palpable, it felt genuine. Katy’s character is also great. I loved how she stood up for Joe, but also how she fought for their relationship and his stubbornness.

Usually stories that features a small town, a single mother and some kind of holiday tend to be too sweet and full of unnecessary drama and emotions. But not An Unexpected Blessing. This story is a pearl, a great shiny pearl. It is really worth reading. And, it comes with bonus features: lovely recipes for your Thanksgiving dinner.
