Top Ten Tuesday: Non-Bookish Hobbies

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday!  This week we’re taking a break from books and bookish things to discuss non-bookish hobbies!  I’ve made a list of six things I enjoy other than reading.  Let’s get to the list!

1. Listening to music-I listen to music when I’m cooking, cleaning, running, driving in the car, working on the computer, etc.  (I’m listening to music as I write this post.) Basically, I have some sort of music on most of the time.  I’m also the sort of person who prefers to listen to albums.  I don’t put my music on shuffle or make playlists.  I just really enjoy listening to albums and seeing how each song fits together to make the whole.  I do listen to music on Pandora quite a bit though, but even then, I work to customize my stations so they have a very specific sound/mood to them.

2. Baking/Cooking-Baking and cooking can be pretty different, but I enjoy them both.  I especially like cooking big holiday meals with my mom.  We open a bottle of wine and spend the afternoon talking, laughing, and cooking.  Pies are my favorite thing to bake.

3. Running-There is just something mentally relaxing about getting up in the morning before my husband and kids are awake and going out for a jog around the neighborhood.  Its just me, the road, and of course some good tunes.  I’m not very fast, but I have managed to complete seven half-marathons.

4. Hiking-I am fortunate enough to live near a beautiful state park.  My family frequently spends Saturday mornings exploring the trails with our dogs.

5. Coloring-When I was a very little kid, I wanted to be an artist.  Unfortunately, I don’t have any talent in that area.  However, since I discovered adult coloring books, I’ve enjoyed doing those.

6. Video games-I’m not a gamer by any stretch of the word, and I don’t really have time to play them very often.  Games I’ve enjoyed include Mario, Mario Kart, Zelda, and Skyrim.

Do you enjoy any of the same hobbies as me?  What hobbies do you enjoy besides reading?

  1. Getting outdoors and exercising gets the brain ready for the hard stuff like writing. https://pmprescott.blogspot.com/2020/11/ttt-non-bookish-hobbies.html

I agree that getting outdoors and exercising is good for the brain!

Thanks for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  2. This is a great list. I used to live near a state park and would always go for a walk to clear my mind. And while I love cooking, my mom always handles the big holidays – I get too stressed lol! But maybe some wine would help. I guess we’ll find out on thanksgiving ?

    • Poinsettia says

Yes, wine could help with the stress of cooking! 🙂 I try not to stress over cooking much though. When my mom and I cook, we try new things and if it doesn’t work, at least we gave it a try.

Thanks so much for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  3. Casual gamers are a thing 😉 You don’t have to wear a hole in the chair in front of your computer/console to call yourself a gamer.

    • Poinsettia says

Thanks! I’m definitely not hard core or have all the latest stuff, but there are some games I really enjoy.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. 🙂

  4. I have done a little coloring lately with my daughter. I love the new adult coloring books they have out. I’ve also tried diamond painting. Have you done that one yet? It’s almost like paint by numbers for adults.

    • Poinsettia says

I haven’t heard of diamond painting! I’ve always loved the idea of being able to paint though.

Thank you for visiting and commenting! 🙂

  5. It’s definitely cool that you finished seven half-marathons! I also really love music 🙂

  6. I usually only let myself listen to music when I am running or walking! Hard to find things to do that don’t involve books!

    • Poinsettia says

Listening to music while running and walking is definitely fun. While I have music on a lot, I have different types of music on depending on what I’m doing and my mood.

Thank you for stopping by and commenting. 🙂

  7. I’m also a runner, definitely one of the things that have helped get me through the year. I like listening to music as well, very much like you, I have music on in the background when I’m doing things 🙂

Yes, running has definitely been good for my mental health this past year!

Thanks for stopping by and commenting! 🙂

  8. Seven half marathons is so impressive! I love running too but I don’t see any marathons in my future ?

    • Poinsettia says

I enjoy running, but as I said, I’m not very fast at all! I don’t see any full marathons in my future either. Since I picked up running again, I’ve run about one half marathon a year. This year’s was cancelled though so that is a bummer. Fingers crossed next year will be better!

Thanks so much for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  9. I like to hike. I’d run more, but it’s hell on my feet.

  10. Seven half-marathons. Impressive. I wish I’d never given up on running after college. Now I can barely run to the car if it raining. Ha!

    • Poinsettia says

I ran cross country and track when I was in school, but got out of it in college. I didn’t start running again until a year or so after having my second child. I was just wanting to get back in shape and then realized how much I’d missed running!

Thank you for stopping by and commenting! 🙂

  11. Never been in a marathon – congrats for that. Love to bake and cook as well.

    • I’ve never done a full marathon, only half marathons. Though I often get asked if I will ever run a full marathon, and the answer is always no thanks! 🙂

Thanks for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  12. I really want to try hiking, a lot of my friends used to do it on weekends before the pandemic but I haven’t had a chance to join them because of my other responsibilities for work and business. Hopefully, after the pandemic, I’ll have time to do it more often.

  13. Listening to music, baking, colouring, all hobbies I can relate to soooo well.

And there is one thing we all have in common here, the love of books.

Thanks for visiting my TTT earlier.

    • You’re welcome!

Yes, music, baking, and coloring are all so much fun and/or relaxing.

  14. Hi there! Due to my work with kids around me the whole day, I listen to music less and less and somedays just put the radio off when I get home. My husband listens to music the whole day though.

I also love coloring and those ones that I’ve added on my post (thanks for visiting btw!) are sooooo easy!

Enjoy the rest of your week!
