I’ve read Les Miserables (excellent), Moby Dick (it was good, but honestly loved the Patrick Stewart movie better.. it’s a different sort of writing), The Thorn Birds (again, excellent), and The Three Musketeers (probably my favorite of the four). I have the Game of Thrones series, but haven’t had time to get into them yet.
Wow, you’ve read a lot of them. That’s awesome. I’ll have to check out Patrick Stewart’s version of Moby Dick as I generally really like his stuff.

Great post! I’ve only read two from the list myself. A Game of Thrones was an instant favorite, and while I, Claudius had some dense writing for modern audiences, it was definitely worth the effort. It’s so interesting to see which books made the list!
i haaaaaaated Moby Dick when I read it in high school. I guess some people like it (maybe?) but i have never met any lol

I love the inclusion of classics! I suspect we tend to forget about them at times (I have tried Les Mis but that was one that was long enough that it defeated me!)

I’ve already determined that Moby Dick can no longer be avoided and I will likely select is as my One Big Book of 2026. It is a personal challenge where I select a book I’ve been avoiding and make sure I read it in the year. Not a lot of pressure, one book, but it works.

I’ve read A Game of Thrones.
It was great. I enjoyed the next four installments.
My frustration is that George RR Martin shows little evidence he will complete the series. So, while I enjoy them, I say read at your own risk.
Yes, I’ve heard that before. It’s one of the reasons why I haven’t read that series yet. I’m still hoping he writes that last book.
I have so many of these on my TBR too. The next one I really want to get to is All the Light We Cannot See, I’ve heard so many good things!

Ooh nice picks! Haven’t read any of these myself. I think I tried to read Moby Dick once but lost interest. I think I was too young at the time and I never circled back to it. Lol.

Yeah, I think a lot of classics probably work better for adults who have had more life experience. Or at least that’s been what I’ve noticed.
I have seen the movies for Thorn Birds, Three Musketeers and Les Miserable, so will probably never read them. I do have All the Light We Can Not See on my TBR. I do recommend The Book Thief, that is the only one I’ve read.

The Book Thief is excellent! Most people love All The Light We Cannot See but I was a little less enthused by it. I really need to read Les Mis and Three Musketeers.
I quite fancy I, Claudius and The Thorn Birds, but the only one I’ve actually read here is Game of Thrones. It’s good, but honestly, I don’t think it’s worth the lack of ending for the series as a whole.

Game of Thrones is such a good story! I love those books, they’re so detailed. The only issue is if they’re ever going to be finished. I have also read and enjoyed Les Mis, The Thornbirds, The Book Thief. And All The Light We Cannot See is on my TBR somewhere.

I love THE BOOK THIEF! Such a good one. I DNF’d both ALL THE LIGHT WE CANNOT SEE and THE THORNBIRDS because they were boring and I couldn’t get into them. Everyone seems to love both those books, but neither of them worked for me.

Great list! I have read A Game of Thrones (really good but honestly the series is never going to be finished) and Don Quixote. Both were good, and The Thorn Birds seems to be on everyone’s lists this week. I’m even more curious about it now.
I suspect you’re right about it never being finished.
I cannot get through Don Quixote. My husband has read it though and he really loved it.

I read All the Light We Cannot See years ago but I do remember loving it! I’ve also read the first four Game of Thrones books and they’re a lot but I think if you enjoy the show and want more depth and detail, you’ll probably enjoy the books too. It got too heavy (and repetitive) for me in the end so I don’t think I’ll finish the series but I hope you enjoy it if you check it out 🙂
