Writing Advice: Never, Never, Never Give Up!
The best writing advice I’ve received is to Never Give Up! Sure, it’s a cliché, but it’s wise advice nonetheless.

“Never, Never, Never, give up.” This famous quote came from Winston Churchill, a man who could have easily given up. Churchill had dyslexia and struggled throughout his school years. He failed the sixth grade. He was defeated in every election for public office until he became Prime Minister at the age of 62.

Many great authors have also overcome significant challenges.

The Alchemist, written by Paul Coelho, was initially published through a small press who ran 900 copies and then elected not to reprint. But Coelho didn’t give up. He lived by what he wrote in The Alchemist: “And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”

Over five years later, HarperCollins published The Alchemist, which went on to become an international bestseller. It was on The New York Times bestseller list for more than 315 weeks and has sold over 65 million copies. It’s been translated into 80 different languages, setting the Guinness World Record for the most translated book by any living author.

Stephen King also overcame obstacles in his writing career. He received so many rejection letters that he began putting them on a nail on his wall. “By the time I was fourteen the nail in my wall would no longer support the weight of the rejection slips impaled upon it. I replaced the nail with a spike and went on writing.” – Stephen King

After years of work, the rejection letters became softer and some publishers even offered tips for improvements. Eventually King got a ‘yes!’ Today, he’s an international bestselling author who has penned 58 novels, 6 non-fiction books, and over 200 short stories. He’s sold over 350 million copies, and his work has been turned into feature films, TV series, and even comic books.

These are excellent examples of why aspiring authors should never give up…any of us could become the next Paul Coelho or Stephen King!

“I bet you have a beautiful smile,” he drawled, then lowered his mouth to hers.

She should have pulled away—she didn’t know this man from Adam. But everything inside her protested. After gazing into each other’s eyes, she felt like she knew him intimately.

His lips were warm and tingly, his kiss pure perfection…and he drew back way too quickly. He blinked those deep blue eyes and gave her a lazy grin. “I knew it.” He rubbed the pad of his thumb over her lower lip. “Beautiful.”

That’s when she realized she was smiling.

He rose, and she gave him a quick once over, taking in the sexy stubble on his face, the taut muscles of his chest, his lean physique. As good old-fashioned lust rolled through her like a quick-moving thunderstorm, she silently bemoaned her situation. This was a hell of a time to have a newly implemented man-ban.

“Keep smiling.” Stuffing his hands in his pockets, he winked at her. “It suits you,” he added in that low, sexy drawl. Then he sauntered off.

Her breath caught as she spun around to gape at him. He’d just kissed her and now he was leaving? She contemplated calling him back, then reconsidered. She had other fish to fry.

Even so, she couldn’t stop herself from tracking his every move as he swaggered toward the party, his backside looking every bit as fine as the rest of him. Pressing a hand to her chest, she let out a slow exhale. Even though she was one-hundred percent committed to her man-ban, she could admit—at least to herself—that the sexy, charming stranger had intrigued her.
