Regina Blake is a normal secretary until there’s trouble — then she becomes the Dark Huntress. Things are about to change when she meets a man whose electrifying power is a fine match to her own, and he’s set on winning her heart. To top it off, there’s a string of bank robberies which escalate into the high profile kidnapping of a famous actor.

Michael Flynn hadn’t realized the extent of superhero and supervillain society. When he rushes to a bank to find it destroyed, he meets a black-latex-clad woman who makes his pulse race. As he’s drawn deeper into her world, he finds himself intrigued and eager to have her.

Who’s interested in a comic book-esque storyline with a bit of spice? You can’t see me, but I’m raising my hand.

Regina Blake is just a typical, run of the mill secretary. On the outside that is. When no one is looking and crime is being committed she is the superhero, “Dark Huntress”. She has inhuman powers that help her save the world from evil doers. Regina is extremely dedicated to her work and, with the help of the government, in a secret plan to keep the world safe. Comic book, right?

Then there is Michael Flynn, hottie attorney by day, “Electrifier” by night. Unlike Regina he fights for what’s right at all times. It becomes apparent that Michael is driven in all aspects of his life. Yet you are endeared by his naivety when it comes to the world of “super” beings. Not having met many people sharing his unique abilities, nor realizing that the government was aware of such people is all an eye opening experience for our hero.

The fireworks between Regina and Michael are instant, even on page one. I really liked how they didn’t fight the attraction and understood that sometimes you have to work together to obtain a common goal. Falling in love is just a bonus in this instance. The tension of having to hide one’s true self visibly disappears as our hero and heroine grow closer together.

Overall, I’d have to say I’m 50/50 with this book. I loved the plot as a whole. Being a fan of superheros and comics, this is just my kind of storyline. Adding to the story with a rich character is Kit. He’s Regina’s right hand man and a super human to boot. But he’s also slightly in love with her and lets his jealousy peek out a bit.

However, I felt things move a little too quickly to make sense. Things seemed to go from battle to battle to battle with little to no rest. And the villain in this story felt a little thin to me. I was a little confused by why he did some of the things he did. There was no real fluidity to his actions.

With that said, I think Sarah Makela created an interesting world and I’ll be very interested to see where she takes it. I’m exceptionally interested in Kit’s story because if you haven’t noticed I might have a little crush on him. So for anyone who likes X-men or Batman or even the ARCO series, you’ll very much enjoy this.
