Olivia, a wealthy matron living in a state of ennui, has dreams of another life during the time of Ancient Rome. Will she seek a present-day gladiator, or can she find new fulfillment in her marriage?

At forty-two, Olivia is still as sexy now as she was when she married Donald, twenty-two years ago. They have a marriage filled with love and happiness, topped off with the luxuries provided by wealth. Lately though, Olivia has become restless. Her days are all the same, since her children are grown and Donald is away on business more than he is at home.

Olivia begins having a recurring dream, of her and a Roman gladiator, and awakes every morning at 5:30 from the dream, often drenched in sweat from the passion of the dream. She always writes every detail of her dream in her journal. After seeing a past-life hypnotist, Olivia learns that she is reincarnated. In her past life, she was again married to man who traveled a lot.

At a charity function, Olivia meets her gladiator, who turns out to be a football player. Olivia and Donald also meet Caitlyn, a young waitress with huge problems. Roman Rhapsody was a quick and entertaining read, with an interesting plot. Ms. Trevalyan did a wonderful job of describing Olivia’s dreams and dream world in fantastic detail. The book quickly switched back and forth between the dreams of the past and daily life of the present, but it was a smooth transition. The character development was somewhat lacking and there was a lot going on, too much for this short of a story. The dramas of this book came about unexpectedly, leaving me wondering how so much could happen in so little time. This book was a very good read, but could have been better if more time was spent on one adventure and if the character development had been stronger.
