Maura has a way of ignoring the open doors in her life, like the door to the spirit world in her guest room and the opportunity to be with Jared. But he plans to change all that. As a mystic, he recognizes what is in her house and is determined to take care of it, with hopes of winning her heart in the process.

But the person who opened the portal has other plans.

Ever wondered what was behind door number three? Ever wondered what would happen if you went through the portal you assumed was a high risk? Ever thought about going through the open door before you? Then you need to read Open Doors.

Ms. Gray writes an interesting novella. Her characters are rich with empathy and caring. You want to see them get together and find their hearts’ content. I liked how the story entwined each character and made the reader think. I liked the ‘what would you do’ aspects of the story.

I liked that the characters had to work together even when they felt the issue was singular. As the hero, I enjoyed Jared. He didn’t back down under pressure and when he set his sights on Maura, he never relented. I liked Maura. I almost felt she was a bit wishy-washy, but when the magic was factored in, things made sense. The secondary character of Adam added to the story with an extra twist of humanity.

I would’ve liked to have gotten a bit more action when Jared went against the devil, but this is a short story, so it didn’t deter the story too much. I did feel the love scenes were very passionate. I liked seeing the lust blossom into love as the novella unfurled.

If you want a sensual read with a magical twist, then you want to read Open Doors. I give this novella 4 cherries.
