Review by LilacDetective and werewolf Zack Elliott visits Last Call to satisfy his need to dominate, but it doesn’t satisfy his unrequited love for a woman he can’t have. Still, he’s managed to keep his desire for her under control… until a chance encounter in their apartment building sends him back to the bar for relief.
Iris has spent the last two decades living a strict life of self-denial as New York City’s only demon social worker. She lives in fear of the power inside her, and the dark needs that tempted her down a dangerous road before. But love and need are leading her down that path again, and her only hope is to give in to the man she loves and trust that he’s strong enough to keep her safe from the darkness inside.
In Tequila Sunset, a demon meets her match in a hot werewolf detective who has longed to make her his.
Fearing the power that resides inside her, Iris has struggled over the last several decades to suppress her needs, but lately it has been more difficult for her to suppress those urges. Having read and met Zack in Moira Rogers’s Tequila Sunrise, I was really looking forward to this story and I have to say that I really enjoyed watching Zack finally get his happy ending. He and Iris seem like a perfect match as both help make the other’s fantasies come true in some very steamy love scenes. The scenes between the two are highly erotic, yet despite the passionate, and sometimes rough, sex there is a tenderness to their coming together as they both give in to the longing they have felt for one another, but have tried unsuccessfully to fight off. They each have dominating personalities and tendencies, yet Zack is able to help Iris control hers and overcome her fears of hurting either him or herself.
I do wish we had gotten a glimpse of their relationship and interactions prior to and after their erotic encounter, but despite that I found Tequila Sunset to be a fast-paced and enjoyable short story.
