But then, the story doesn’t dwell on the funeral. Flashbacks slide seemlessly into the body of the tale and the reader is turned immediately to events at school. The main character, Carrie, is so real we easily share both her surprise, and perhaps a sense of triumph, that Luke Carter actually knows her name and remembers her from their trig class. Is it that surprise that makes her take a combative role in her interview with him? Or just too stern a grasp of High School reality?

For a high school sports legend, Luke isn’t pompous at all. He is the best looking, most popular and richest guy in school, so she expects him to be a jerk and we expect him to be a jerk, heck, we almost want him to be a jerk! Especially since Carrie so hastily acknowledges she has ‘no chance’ with him. It would be so much easier to write him off, rather than acknowledge the attraction.

Secondary characters are not stereotypical at all, either (although sometimes Carrie seems to expect them to be.) Even brother Marty, who seems so typically a brother, has surprises in store. And we all like Luke more and more, even while kind of cheering for Carrie’s ‘bring it’ style. The Stillburrow Crush is intriguing from the outset, and deals with issues teens hear about, may be curious or even worried about, but sometimes have not yet personally experienced. Ms. Kage exhibits a keen understanding of the social circles and impact of popularity in most high schools, (not to mention small town USA) and the impact of gossipy whispers: making this all the more plausible. Making A Wish and Blow is a sizzling hot story with oodles of heat. From the start, you get the chemistry and the sexual tension that has been brewing between the characters. Their friendship adds depth, while their attraction fans the flames. The only issue I had with the story is Cassandra’s determination to keep Daren at an arm’s length, convinced that he only wants sex and will leave when the novelty wears. Considering their long-standing friendship, it felt odd that she could trust him so readily with BDSM style sex and her safety, but didn’t trust him to be honest about his feelings. Of course, her hesitancy does add some conflict, which works, but I had a difficult time understanding her motivations and fears.

Aside from this, however, the story is wonderful and entertains from start to finish. The writing is fantastic, allowing you to experience the intense longing Daren and Cass feel for one another, while the sex scenes blister. Each encounter is surpassed by the next, and I couldn’t wait to see how Ms. James kicked it up a notch. You’ll writhe like mad and fan yourself uncontrollably while reading this naughty and delightful erotic romance, and you’ll enjoy every wicked moment of it. This is the kind of story that increases the heart rate and keeps you coming back for more.

David is an interesting hero in that, unlike so many alphas, he doesn’t go for what he wants right off the bat. He lets the desire between them build into something neither can do without. It’s very sexy. Even though he’s a tad younger than Elle, you still want to see him score with her and show her the love bubbling in his heart.

Elle, for all her lusty thoughts, made me cringe on occasion. She wants him—we get that—but she’s afraid of the repercussions. Makes sense, but then again, why complain? Go for him! I liked that she made her own way and didn’t need a man to make her whole, but I did want to see her succumb to David a bit faster.

The sex scenes are red-hot and not to be missed. You’ll find yourself writhing and squirming along with David and Elle.
