But his inheritance comes with a stipulation: he has to be married before he can collect. What he needs is a husband….

West and Julian can help each other, and at first they don’t want anything further. But as they dodge meddling cousins, jealous rivals, and an insidious drug, it becomes clear that their lives are entwined in ways they never imagined—and they’re in greater danger than they thought possible.

Being on the run from your pack can prove quite troublesome, especially when you need to reinforce spells to keep everyone away from the little plot of land you have claimed. Julian is recommended to West as being the right mage for the job, but sparks immediately fly between these two. A ‘you scratch my back, and I’ll scratch yours’ situation soon arises, and the story takes off.

I don’t know if this is part of a series or not, but I did feel at times that it was a second or third book, simply due to the world-building. There is great depth to parts of it, but not so much in others. There is such a lot going on in this world, and we learn about most of it.

The story is written very well, flowing along smoothly. The pacing is on-point, with ebbs and flows as per the story. The characters are all nicely described, although everyone will have their own ‘favourite’.

If this is the first book in a series, then I would definitely want to carry on the series. If it’s a standalone, then I am happy I’ve read it, although I would have like to delve into this world a bit more.

Still, an amazing story that I have no hesitation in recommending.

(And, yes, you do find out the reasons for their names.)

This book is actually book #9 in the series, but it can be read as a standalone. There are hints along the way about stories that have gone on before, but nothing too bad to disrupt your reading.

The characters are fully dimensional, the contemporary world is familiar. The pace of this story is very smooth, and flows exceedingly well. With low-level angst, there is enough to keep you on your toes, whilst appreciating just how the characters feel.

This was a fantastic read from start to finish. I have loved this series, and I love this book. A jewel in the crown of Morticia Knight, by my reckoning. Most definitely recommended by me.

I haven’t read the first book in this series, and don’t think it necessary to have done so, but I found this one to be very well-written, with a clear and concise storyline, and easy plot to follow. The world is easy to see, with their own traditions and laws.

This story moves along nicely, both with the plot and also being filled with steamy moments. I have no hesitation in recommending this story, and would be happy to continue with the series.

The river runs wild

Former Fish & Wildlife Officer Charlotte “Charlee” Tanner still carries the guilt of a tragic drowning accident that occurred on her watch. She hoped moving back home to the wilds of central Florida would provide a safe haven-until she learns the death was no accident, and she’s the intended target.

Tough and decisive, Lieutenant Hunter Boudreau loves his new job as a law enforcement officer with the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission. Charlee is his best friend, so when she comes under fire, he’s not letting her out of his sight until the killer is caught. But Charlee won’t sit by and let anyone else die for her.

As danger closes in and Charlee and Hunter’s attraction threatens to consume them, Charlee has to decide if she can trust Hunter. And to save Charlee, Hunter will have to trust her, too.

What happens when you have an exhausted former Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation officer taking out a kayak tour on a one year anniversary of a tour gone wrong, where the death of a teenager still plays havoc with her? You get an enthralling suspense, that will keep you turning the pages, that’s what!

Charlee is a strong character, and yet she is lost due to the guilt she feels. She has lost her enjoyment of being on the rivers, and yet feels an obligation to her father. When it becomes clear that someone else is remembering the anniversary too, things take a twist. There are so many suspects, it is hard to narrow it down. Each of them has a part to play, and each have their reasons, but only one is the killer. With Hunter by her side, Charlee is prepared to face the danger head-on. They are best friends, but both of them want more.

This was such an intriguing tale, from the start to the end. Charlee knows what she wants, or needs, to do, and isn’t prepared to take no for an answer. However, she also won’t do anything stupid either, which made a refreshing change. This book has a strong character base, with both main and supporting characters fully-fleshed out and playing their parts. The story was interesting enough for me to sit back and enjoy the flow, not worrying about whodunnit.

A gripping tale, with other stories and characters just waiting to have their say. I would definitely recommend this book.

Three facts about Tuckington Belle:

1. Given the choice between illegally scaling the royal castle’s walls to steal flowers for a client at his family’s dress shop or going on a date with a girl his brother set him up with (“He’s fertile, and he can sew!”), Tuck will scale the wall like a spider after a fly.

2. If, upon knocking himself unconscious when he falls off the wall, Tuck wakes up bruised, blindfolded, and inside the castle, where—based on the unearthly wails heard nightly—the prince no one has seen in ten years is probably a ghost, Tuck would still choose this over a date with a girl.

Three facts about Prince Frederick George Deor (Read and approved with great reluctance by Lord “Protocol is Protocol. Stop Being a Pain About It” Todd):

2. He can’t take his eyes off the injured thief recovering in the castle.

3. Friendships born from lying and insisting the other person wears a blindfold can blossom into true love—which he needs to break the curse.

“He’s young, employed, and fertile. And he can sew.” This is in the opening paragraph of this book. In a world that has both Twitter and mobile phones, we also see a fairy-tale world of princes, castles and curses.

With a cast of characters designed to make you smile, this is a fairy-tale of a story. The storyline is a simple one. Our prince gets cursed for moaning about himself, and shuts himself away from everyone, including his family. However, the way it is written, makes for a delightful time-out. The pacing is smooth, and the world is well-fleshed out. It did seem a bit strange reading about Twitter, but once I accepted it as part of the world, all was well. There were no editing or grammatical errors that disrupted my reading flow, and I finished this book with a huge smile on my face.

For a light-hearted fairy-tale romance, I can definitely recommend this story.

What a story this was!!! It is a dark story, with little to no romance, so if you are looking for that… well, you’re in the wrong place. The characters are written really well, and you, as the reader, will be left wondering about the motivations of some of them. The world-building is superb, with it being completely jarring when you read about ‘normal’ life when you are engrossed with the story.

The ending is both perfect for the story, and also completely shocking. It was a twist I never saw coming, and I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book. Absolutely brilliant, and definitely recommended by me.

Set in the 1980’s, we are immediately thrown in the action when our heroine walks into a bar, looking for a specific someone whose help she needs. She finds him, but in his drunken state, she isn’t sure what use he will be to her after all.

Grace is a strong character, both physically and mentally. R.C. has his demons chasing him, which have influenced the decisions he has made in life. Something about Grace challenges those demons, making him want to help her. They head off to a private island, unconnected to the rest of the world, with a very loose plan on what to do once they get there. Of course, things don’t go according to plan, when their host appears to be in China on a business trip, leaving his wife in charge.

This book had an Agatha Christie feel to it as the various guests each have their own reasons for being there, and their behaviour once they arrive. Although I was invested with the two main characters, there wasn’t much about the others to help me connect to them. Only one or two are mentioned in detail, and I do like hearing about others. Especially when it’s a limited number of characters in the first place.

Well written, with a smooth pace, this is a great little adventure/mystery story with romance too. This book is the perfect length for a lunch-break book, or one to read in the bath. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and have no hesitation in recommending it.
