This is what has happened to Fawn. Scarred and disgraced, she never thinks she will be Owned again, and is more than okay with that. Her life changes once again when Master Lyon enters her life.

What a story this was!!! It is a dark story, with little to no romance, so if you are looking for that… well, you’re in the wrong place. The characters are written really well, and you, as the reader, will be left wondering about the motivations of some of them. The world-building is superb, with it being completely jarring when you read about ‘normal’ life when you are engrossed with the story.

The ending is both perfect for the story, and also completely shocking. It was a twist I never saw coming, and I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book. Absolutely brilliant, and definitely recommended by me.

Frank follows the motto, “Honesty is the best policy.” He tells the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Frank never lies to his schoolmates, he always tells the truth to adults, and he’s always honest with police officers. The balancing act of finding tact, that fine line between telling the truth and telling too much truth, is the main theme of this story, and it’s very funny—although not necessarily to his friend Dotti whose freckles remind Frank of the Big Dipper, or to the teacher who hears that her breath smells like onions, or to the principal who is told that his toupee looks like a weasel. No one is quite as impressed with Frank’s honesty as he thinks they should be. He is sweet and straightforward, and, well, very frank, but with everyone annoyed at him, Frank is now honestly unhappy. He decides to visit his confidante and pal, Grandpa Ernest, who has a history of frankness himself. With a few lessons from Grandpa, Frank begins to understand that the truth is important, but so is not being hurtful. With amusing characters and expressive artwork, this story tells the powerful message of finding the good in everything—a lesson that sends compassion and understanding to take the place of rudeness in the complex concept of truth.

Frank was such a likeable kid. Even though he said hurtful things at the beginning of this tale, his intentions were never to make anyone sad. In fact, he was horrified at the thought that he’d accidentally done exactly that! Figuring that out in one of the earliest scenes was all it took for me to start rooting for him to find more gentle ways to express his opinions about other people. His heart was in the right place, so I looked forward to finding out if he’d be able to make the changes he needed in order for other people to understand what he was trying to say to them.

I would have liked to see Frank’s grandfather spend a little more time explaining the difference between being tactful and lying to someone. As an adult, I totally understood exactly what he was getting at, but I do think that this age group would benefit from a more straightforward explanation of this topic. It’s an important one, and I would have chosen a perfect rating if this character had been given a few more lines to show kids how to talk about something they didn’t like without offending anyone.

With that being said, the ending was really well done. I liked the reactions that Frank’s friends and neighbors had once they realized he was trying a new way of communicating with them. Without giving away any plot twists, they were also great role models for how to behave when someone says something that you’re not entirely sure how to respond to at first.

Being Frank should be read by anyone who has ever accidentally put their foot in their mouth and said something they later regretted.

Levi repaired her damaged shoulder and offered to let her stay in the caretaker’s cottage on the estate he’d just bought north of Casa Blanca Resort and Spa in exchange for dog-sitting his chocolate Lab, Hersch, and overseeing the repairmen who were rebuilding his house. Missy’s work ethic and organizational skills soon made her indispensable to Levi, and eventually, his new bride, Ella. Two souls, two secrets, one happy ending?

I’m new to the work of Morgan Malone and this was a great introduction. The writing flowed well and once I started the book, I couldn’t put it down. I fell in love with the characters and needed to know what would happen next.

Missy is feisty, as described in the blurb. The woman knows what she wants and what she doesn’t. I liked her forthright approach. It was refreshing to read about an older heroine (over 25 yrs old) who had her head screwed on straight. I loved Missy immediately. Then there’s Don. This man… wow. I could see him and I would love to see him on the big screen. He’s sad, but sweet, a painter and the brooding… I was sucked right in. The chemistry between Don and Missy is fun, but tender, too. Oh and the cat. I loved Lady. She’s a pistol.

The cast of characters is wonderful and even though I hadn’t read the other books in the Barefoot Bay world, I didn’t feel lost. Great reading.

If you’re looking for a warm holiday read that’s perfectly quick, but just right, then this might be the one for you.

This is an interesting read and quite different from a number of paranormals that I usually read. While the shifter culture and paranormal aspects of the story is definitely front and center, having the characters all living in a small town gives it a bit of a different feel to my mind. This is a book in the middle of a series, but I feel that there’s plenty of explanation around the characters and who they are, as well as how they’re all interconnected. I feel readers who have read some of the previous stories might get more out of this story but it can still be read by itself as its own story. I was a little disappointed that there was no explicit sex in the story – but there’s plenty of chemistry and steamy kisses between Toren and Zeus that kept the heat level sensual and steamy.

I loved Zeus’ character, large and strong but soft and protective in his heart, he’s the classic gentle giant – even if he would happily rip someone’s throat out while protecting those he loves. There’s quite a mystery for much of the story revolving around Toren, but it was clear to me that Toren and Zeus were made for each other. I was particularly impressed at how well Zeus managed to balance his responsibilities as beta of the pack, his loyalty and love for the alpha, his love for his small family but also the new feelings of protective responsibility Zeus felt for Toren. I feel it would have been easy for this to be badly handled – so I was pleased and impressed that I felt the author did a good job. Zeus didn’t lie or evade the alpha or his responsibilities, but neither did he back down or bow to one side and ignore the other. I really liked how Zeus managed to meet everyone’s needs while being honest but also sticking to his protector/beta responsibilities. And his willingness to not make snap judgments and also trust his own instincts really helped make this an excellent story to my mind.

With a bunch of interesting and complicated characters, a really good, solid plot woven properly through the story and a steamy romance this was a great story that checked a lot of my favourite boxes. I will happily be rereading this book again in the near future.

Freya and Slater are a bit different than what I usually read. For example, though Slater has a fully fledged successful career, but he is also a prospect. For readers who have not read an MC book before, prospects are basically assistants or interns of the MC world. That in itself is not the usual part. Freya’s father is a neurologist and she had wanted to do the same thing. These folks were successful in their own right, so seeing them as part of the MC was different.

However, their relationship smolders. It is there in the background but it is not the main theme or topic. Unlike some erotic books I have read I liked reading this a lot more because it was not constant sex. I could see the relationship build in the small things he does and doesn’t do.

The thing I disliked was that it took a lot longer than I thought to get through the first half of the book as it dragged a bit. That being said the ending was well worth the time it took.

This is a part of a series which could be read as a stand-alone. I recommend this to any reader who wants a bit of the erotic but does not want it to overpower the story.

Stories about mortals travelling into hell have been omnipresent in our literary canon for almost as long as weve had one, but young writer Su-Yee Lin has still managed to find modern resonance and new territory to explore in this lyrical and evocative vision of a trip to a place that is never quite what we expect it to be.

There’s more than one way to punish a soul.

It wasn’t very far into the first scene when I first realized that the main character was suffering from some sort of memory loss. He couldn’t remember simple things like his first name or more complicated facts like why he’d agreed to go to the underworld in the first place. Given these facts, I was pleasantly surprised by how well I got to know him as a person. His personality shone through all of his confusion, and I felt like I’d recognize him instantly if we were ever to be in the same room. This was quite the accomplishment for a character who could tell the readers so little about his past, and it made me want to read more from Ms. Lin soon.

As much as I liked it, there was a little too much exposition in the final scene. The protagonist’s mind had been deteriorating slowly but steadily in the beginning and middle of this tale. Due to this pattern, I was a little taken aback by how things ended. There had been a nice amount of foreshadowing earlier on, so I didn’t really see the need to explain things in quite as much detail as they were in the end. With that being said, I still enjoyed reading this and would say that my only criticism was definitely a minor one.

The descriptions of what hell was like in this universe were nothing at all what I was expecting. There was no gory content at all to my surprise, but that didn’t make it one bit less frightening than it would have been if it were part of the horror genre. I loved the fact that the author was able to write such a unique and creepy setting while also turning the audience’s expectations upside down. The vague references to this were what originally drew me to this story, and they turned out to be my favorite part of it in the end.

I’d heartily recommend Thirteen Steps in the Underworld to anyone who has ever had a word or memory on the tip of their tongue.

Yet Ryker didn’t want to bring Skylar into his dark and dangerous world. While Sky tries hard to set her life on a different course, she eventually has to admit that Ryker is the only man for her. Can she convince him to stake his claim on her?

I found this to be an intresting and character-driven sexy story. I was pleased the author took some time to introduce both Ryker and Skylar’s characters as this gave me time as a reader to get invested in them. This also helped me not feel like they were rushed together into their sexual relationship and skimp on the plot. Once Skylar returns to the city – all of Ryker’s patience is at an end and their relationship progresses pretty quickly. I did like, though, how the rest of the familia didn’t fade too far into the background.

While a quick and short read, I felt the characters here really shone. Interesting and complicated Ryker and Skylar in particular didn’t feel like cookie cut-outs. For my tastes, I feel there could have been a bit more descriptiveness in the sex scenes, but overall I thought this was a well balanced story with sex, interesting characters and a good level of plot. Christmas, a puppy and love. How can you go wrong?

I’ve never read a Debbie Macomber book and I’m glad I picked this one up. I have to admit, I grabbed it because of the dog on the cover. I’m a sucker for dog stories. This one ticked that box for me.

The writing flowed well and it was hard to put this book down–I had to. I couldn’t stay up late enough to finish it. That said, some of the subplot was a tad odd… I really had to stretch to go along with it. But I can’t say it was enough to turn me off. The bit about the biker… Well, you’ll have to read it for yourself to make a decision.

Ashley and Dashiell (Ash and Dash lol) were an interesting pairing. They seemed to have little in common and the romance happened a bit on the quick side, but with the dash of Christmas tossed in, it was a satisfying quick read.
