Teenager Sam Timmins, school outcast and total nerd, is saved one day from getting run over by the wind. Only it isn’t the wind that saves him, but a mysterious wind-sprite named Esther. The result of a botched lab experiment, Esther and her mother, Nita, the lead scientist on a matter-transportation project, now exist as wind beings.

Sam begins a relationship with Esther, even though he cannot see or even hold Esther, but they grow as close as two people can under the circumstances.

The forces of evil, though, will not be denied. Morton Ramsay, the head of the project, needs Esther and Nita back for his own purposes. He sends his two chief henchmen, Harsky and Stutch, to intimidate Sam. When that doesn’t work, they resort to murdering his mother.

Now, Sam is out for revenge. Aided by Esther and her mother, he finds out just who he is and what he is capable of. More than that, he finds out what science is capable of creating—and destroying.

Some folks naturally march to the beat of their own drum, and Sam is one of them.

Sam was a well-developed and interesting character who felt like a real person to me. There were times when he made impulsive choices or accidentally said the wrong thing, but this is in no way a criticism of him as an individual. I really liked the fact that his weaknesses involved stuff that influenced how the plot turned out. Protagonists like this one are one of the reasons why I get so excited when Mr. Frankel releases another book. He knows how to create characters who are multi-dimensional, and Sam was an excellent example of this.

I loved seeing how the romance between Sam and Esther developed. They had such similar personalities and interests that I couldn’t help but to root for them to end up together. The compatibility between them seemed to be pretty high from the beginning, and I only found more examples of things they had in common as I got to know both of them better.

The pacing was handled perfectly. Sam encountered new twists in his adventures at precisely the right moments. My interest in finding out what would happen in the next scene remained high. There was always just enough new information to keep me reading without pushing the plot faster than it should have unfolded. I especially liked the fact that the main character had plenty of time to introduce the audience to the people who were important to him before too many things that defied explanation began happening to him.

Ether is a must-read for new and longterm fans of this author’s work alike. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Their marriage was meant to be a business arrangement and nothing more. A dispassionate union free from the entanglements of love and affection. But when Helena’s past threatens, will Justin’s burgeoning feelings for his new bride compel him to come to her rescue? Or will dark secrets of his own force him to let her go?

Wow! Oh my goodness! Amazing! I started a new full time job and I swore my days of staying up reading past my bedtime were over! From now on I’m not starting a book before bedtime. I can’t take the risk anymore. I couldn’t put The Matrimonial Advertisement book down.

Everything I look for in a book was incorporated in this romance. I love it when both the hero and heroine have strong personalities yet have vulnerabilities. They are equally intelligent, caring and mutually attracted to one another. This was a sweet romance with the bedroom door firmly closed.

I was smitten with Justin. I’ve never had a man fight for me nor do I wish for that. However, I swooned over Justin’s chivalry.

The plot was absolutely riveting from the first page to the last. This story was exceptionally well written. I’m excited that it’s book one in the Parish Orphans of Devon series. I really hope the next book is about Mr. Finchley and Jenny. I hope there are some guest appearances from Justin and Helena.

This story evoked many emotions in me. I laughed, I got teary eyed and even experienced anger towards Helena’s uncle. The unpredictable moments had me feeling on edge. Mostly I felt happy. I love it when there is an epilogue that leaves me with a book glow.

I can’t say enough wonderful things about this story. Unfortunately it’s past my bedtime. Please give this book a chance if you enjoy historical romance novels. I’m glad I did.

I simply didn’t want them to end. They were so well written and interesting, especially once I realized how they were probably going to tie into what was happening years later in the main character’s life.

Cryptography is a topic that’s recently begun to interest me. While I don’t yet know a lot about it, I was pleased with how the characters in this book handled the idea of a code so complex that even the most powerful cryptographers and ciphers had yet to be able to break it. The more I read about how this all worked in this tale, the more I wanted to know.

The world building was excellent. There was exactly enough time split between giving the audience the details we needed in order to understand what life was like onboard space ships in the distant future and expecting us to put certain clues together ourselves. I enjoyed the challenge of figuring out the less obvious but still quite important parts of this world while at the same time having a fairly clear picture of how everything worked in general.

As aloof, ruggedly handsome Wolf shows Cassandra the value of life in the prairies, tenderness begins to grow from their shared pain into something more… Maybe there’s a future for her at the Rocking S Ranch after all…

I will not lie, I am a huge fan of the Oak Grove Series. Wedding at the Rocking S Ranch was a winner. It secured the Oak Grove Series in first place in my mind. This book can be read as a standalone, however, it is worth looking up its predecessors and reading them. The author’s note says “The town and its inhabitants have become so real to me that I wish I could go there and visit them in real life!” I also want to go to Oak Grove, Kansas to meet all the characters that I’ve grown to love. I have yet to ever binge-watch on Netflix but I would if the Oak Grove series was made into a T.V. show. Someone needs to start a petition for that to happen.

Wedding at the Rocking S Ranch was a heartwarming love story. The heroine, Cassandra, was once an outgoing, fun-spirited girl who lost herself after a set of unfortunate circumstances. Watching her journey to regain her self-confidence was cheer worthy.

Watching the hero, Wolf, be a part of Cassandra’s healing was rewarding. Wolf was patient, strong and kind. Wolf was treated unfairly by people because of his heritage which resulted in him being cautious and skeptical of other’s intentions. Wolf and Cassandra were brought together by a mutual loss. It was humbling to see that common thread between them blossom into something special. They each deserved love and joy in their life.

The plot was riveting. I couldn’t put it down even when it was well past my bed time. There was a hint of suspense intertwined among three shady characters. Even now I’m left feeling a bit of trepidation since they didn’t get the typical punishment handed to them. Usually I’d complain about that but given the set of sequences it all made perfect sense and was justified.

It goes without saying that the characters were well developed and relatable. The writing style was flawless. The pace was a steady quick momentum. I enjoyed every minute reading this story even when I finished it at 3:15 AM. Good thing I’m on vacation this week otherwise I’d be a walking zombie, though it’d be worth it.

I’m thankful that I got to read and review this book. It will go on my keeper shelf. Kathryn Albright is definitely on my favorite author list. I encourage others to give this book a chance and to check out the other books in the Oak Grove series.

It’s an empowering tale about connecting with others and choosing kindness over bullying, and shows children how angry and provocative words can be overcome by empathy and courage.

Who says lions always have to be ferocious?

The friendship between Leonard and Marianne was sweet and supportive. I enjoyed seeing all of the ways these two friends could come up with to have fun together. They had similar ideas of what someone could do with their free time, and all of their ideas sounded appealing to me. While I don’t know if the author is ever planning to turn this into a series, there is definitely a lot of room here to explore what these characters got up to after the final scene in this book.

Leonard had an incredibly kind and gentle personality. I would have liked him regardless of what kind of creature he was, but the fact that a lion was described in this way only endeared me to him even more. He was such a unique soul that I couldn’t help but to hope that he’d become more comfortable in his skin and make friends with folks who didn’t judge him based on what he looked like.

I adored the message of this tale. Some people and lions will never fit the stereotypes of what others think they should be like. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with being different from everyone else, though, and I loved the fact that the narrator made this so clear to the readers through what happened to Leo as he broke all of the rules about how lions are supposed to behave.

How to Be a Lion was one of the best children’s stories I’ve read so far this year. I can’t recommend it strongly enough.

Welcome to Monster Hunter International.

Five days after Owen Zastava Pitt pushed his insufferable boss out of a fourteenth story window, he woke up in the hospital with a scarred face, an unbelievable memory, and a job offer.

It turns out that monsters are real. All the things from myth, legend, and B-movies are out there, waiting in the shadows. Officially secret, some of them are evil, and some are just hungry. On the other side are the people who kill monsters for a living. Monster Hunter International is the premier eradication company in the business. And now Owen is their newest recruit.

It’s actually a pretty sweet gig, except for one little problem. An ancient entity known as the Cursed One has returned to settle a centuries old vendetta. Should the Cursed One succeed, it means the end of the world, and MHI is the only thing standing in his way. With the clock ticking towards Armageddon, Owen finds himself trapped between legions of undead minions, belligerent federal agents, a cryptic ghost who has taken up residence inside his head, and the cursed family of the woman he loves.

Business is good . . .

When I finished this book the first word I thought of was — Wow!

Paranormal monsters come in various shapes and sizes and most of them are in this book. Vampires, werewolfs, ghouls, gargoyles, wights and anything else you can think of — they’re all in this book. As the title says this is about Monster Hunter International, a company that finds and disposes of monsters, sometimes with the FBI and sometimes in spite of the FBI.

Owen (or Z) is the main character and he’s big, an expert fighter and does not believe in monsters. His mind is changed when his boss turns into a werewolf and tries to kill him. He survives and is offered a job with MHI.

This book is fast moving, intense and has one aim in sight. To get rid of the seven master vampires and the Cursed One who has immeasurable powers. Owen finds himself the pivot of this job when he talks to an ancient Monster Hunter in his dreams.

The intensity of the story is kept going not only by the savage fights between monsters and hunters, but also the knowledge that the Cursed One is heading for the Place of Power to finish the world as it is today. They have to dispose of him before he gets reaches his destination.

I have to say this book is admirably written and flows without any hiccups at all. I liked the fact Owen might have been big and strong but he wasn’t a macho man and knew he had a lot to learn about monster hunting. There’s the usual antagonist within the group, plus a tendency for the monsters to make a beeline for him but the other characters also get their day of fighting. Excellent book, as I said at the beginning. Wow!
