How do you stay under the sheriff’s radar in a town that prides itself on knowing everyone’s business? Leah’s not sure it’s possible, but she’s determined to avoid Colton Bea for as long as she can. Seeing him again would be too heartbreaking-and she knows from experience his bone-melting kisses are way too tempting.

Colt reminds me of that kid that every school has that just never seems to grow up. Even thought he is the sheriff, you can still see the seventeen year old wild child in him. That is what first piqued my interest, because I knew at some point his lifetime party would have to end, and he would need to grow up. It took a lot for Colt to change, getting hit by a car, Leah returning, and more, but he eventually seems to come around to be the man I knew was trapped inside the man-child.

Leah at times I was completely behind and others I just had to shake my head in disappointment. She has had to make some tough decisions in her life, and some of them while I could understand I just could not agree with. Being the pastor’s daughter means she was brought up with a code of ethics that many just cannot challenge and makes her seem almost perfect. The problem with being virtually perfect is that when you fall it is from a mighty high pedestal that most people including Colt have place you on.

I have been following this series from the beginning, and was not disappointed in the least bit. This is certainly a story that I can say will wreak havoc on one’s emotions the way it did mine. It was one of the only romance stories that actually made me question if there was indeed going to be a happy ever after for the characters. While this story is part of a series it is definitely a story that can stand alone. Anyone can pick it up and immediately be transported to Sultry Springs with nice wholesome country girls and hot cowboys. I cannot wait to see the next installment.

Once upon a time, a writer woke up in the middle of her own book…

Hades’ Carnival, Book 3

Araminta Davenport has arrived. After giving up her librarian job to be a full-time writer, all those lonely nights alone with her cat and her keyboard have paid off. She’s been invited to participate in one of the biggest reader appreciation weekends—as a professional author.

She can’t imagine her life getting any more exciting than that…until she accidentally releases a sexy, shapeshifting, immortal warrior from a five-thousand-year-old curse.

Finally free of his carousel prison, lion shifter Leander is determined not to let Hades lure him to the dark side in a quest for world domination. Nor will he give the delectable Araminta up to the clutches of the dark one. If they can survive twenty-four hours—and somehow resist losing themselves completely in the sexual haze threatening to swallow them up—the curse will be permanently broken.

But the clock is ticking, the heat is rising…and only the ultimate sacrifice will save them both.

Pride of the Lion is the third installment of N.J. Walters’ short series, Hades’ Carnival. This is a wonderfully dark and intriguing world, with characters that are fully developed and multifaceted, with insecurities and flaws just like the rest of us. I do enjoy visiting Ms. Walters’ world, but I’m kind of glad I don’t actually live there all the time. It is a world where things aren’t always as they appear to be, and evil hides behind a pretty, or handsome, face. I love the legend she has incorporated, The Lady of the Beasts, and it sends my imagination into overdrive.

Araminta Davenport is absolutely thrilled to have been invited to participate in one of the biggest, most important reader appreciation weekends…as a professional writer. She gave up her day jobs, and feels that she is finally seeing some rewards for all her hard work. What Araminta doesn’t know is that there is someone orchestrating it all from behind the scenes; someone evil and looking toward his own agenda. When Araminta breaks the spell on the lion shifter, Leander, while on the carousel from Hades Carnival, she realizes that what she has been writing isn’t fiction at all; her most recent book follows what is happening to her in this life that has gone just a bit crazy all of a sudden. As for Leander, now that he is free, he is determined to stay that way, and keep both the lovely Araminta and himself out of Hades’ clutches for the next twenty-four hours. As Araminta and Leander grow closer, so do Hades and his minions, including the ever-mysterious Mordecai, one of the freed warriors who accepted Hades’ proposition. When they learn that the events from the first two books written by Araminta have actually occurred, they try to contact the other warriors for assistance. Can Leander keep Araminta safe and refuse Hades’ offer? What other secrets will be revealed as these two fight for their very souls? Will there be a happy ever after for Leander and Araminta, or will Hades finally succeed in his evil plans?

Araminta Davenport is smart, talented, and yet a bit shy and unassuming at first. When she begins to understand that Hades has tricked her, she begins to doubt her talent, and fears she has lost her mind at first. But as she gains a sense of what is happening, she is determined to help Leander resist Hades and his many lures and temptations. I liked Araminta’s quiet strength and determination, and her ability to accept what is happening without question. I liked watching as she grew closer to Leander, and was able to trick Hades as well.

Leander is an ancient warrior, a lion shifter and one of the beasts cursed by his Lady to protect him and his fellow warriors until the time was right for them to be awakened. Leander is strong, handsome and hot, and yet, he is also considerate and willing to listen to Araminta’s ideas. I like Leander for his loyalty and his ability to adapt to situations that are far beyond his knowledge at times.

There are some fantastic surprise twists in this book. I like that Ms. Walters was able to show that even Hades can make mistakes, and forget about some of his goals. There are some unexpected allies here, and I refuse to say any more about them now. Just be aware that all is not lost and nothing is as it seems at times. Of course, there is lots of hot and heavy action as well between Leander and Araminta; it wouldn’t be N.J. Walters without it. I am looking forward to the final episode in this passionate tale of good versus evil. Do Leander and Araminta survive their challenge? Now, that would be telling, and I think that it is better to read it for yourself.

Bringing another guy into the bedroom was supposed to spice up Kevin and Jill’s married life. But when Jill insists their third should be someone they don’t know, Kevin’s concerned. His police detective mentality doesn’t want a stranger in their bed.

Then his new partner volunteers for the job. Adam Heller’s more than willing to satisfy Jill’s and Kevin’s every desire. It’s the perfect solution. Jill doesn’t know who Hell is and Kevin has the security of including someone he trusts. What could possibly go wrong?

Their night at a local hotel is hotter than any of them dreamed of—until an early morning page reveals Hell’s true identity. Now, in the midst of investigating a possible serial killer, Hell and Kevin struggle to convince Jill that Hell is more than just a spare dick.

Kevin Ramsey has convinced himself he’s searching for the right man to fulfill his wife’s fantasy but what if the perfect man happens to also be the something he’s secretly longed for as well? A man and his wife who are so in love that they want to give each other whatever their heart desires. But at what price?

The severe complications due to the use of these pills are: increased breathing, increased blood pressure, online levitra increased heart beats. This prediction was nowhere close to being accurate as many people pen click now now levitra canadian pharmacy down their experiences there.
I’ve read some really good menage relationship books but not many where two of the characters are a happily married husband and wife. This story is special because even if Kevin and Jill had never decided that they wanted to add a “spare dick” for a one night fantasy they would have still lived happily ever after. The writer left no doubt that the success of their relationship isn’t tied to adding someone to it. As high school sweethearts and twelve years of marriage, they had already built the lasting best friends and lovers foundation. It’s funny how teasing suggestions can lead to unintended consequences. In the case of Kevin, Jill and Adam I experienced every level of concern, fear, trepidation, longing, accepting and finally love in this fantastic little read.

Ms. Wilde set the tone for the story from the beginning and I was hooked to the very end. It wasn’t hard to see how Kevin could go from being completely hetero to eventually asking for what he wanted. I liked that Ms. Wilde didn’t make the transition easy for Kevin. The idea of what Jill asked him to do was stressful and he had questions but every decision he made, every step he took was always about her. Likewise, when Jill is confronted with what she perceives as duplicity she reacts as a normal woman would. It wouldn’t have made sense for her to simply accept what had been done without running the gambit of emotions. The writer made me think about how she was feeling and that’s important to me as a reader. If I don’t care how the characters struggle or how they feel then I’m not vested into their HEA or HFN.

Adam Heller is simply precious. Don’t tell him that, he considers himself a bit of an alpha male but he’s so much more than the gruff exterior of man known as “Hell” by his peers. He makes no apologies for what or who he wants but he doesn’t try to force others to be who they aren’t. I liked that he was able to be vulnerable it the right situation but didn’t hide and let some miscommunication ruin a good thing. Even if that “good thing” didn’t include him. I had no trouble buying into his feelings and the chemistry between him and Jill as well as him and Kevin.

There were no real surprises in the subplot concerning the missing girl, it could have been taken directly from a rural town newspaper, but it’s so well written and flows at just the right pace I didn’t want to stop reading. Not to say the subplot wasn’t necessary, it was. The story could have been solely about how Adam came to be a part of Kevin and Jill’s relationship but the intensity of the emotions and clarity of the moment that came out as a result of the case gave credence to what they all felt. It wasn’t simply a classic trope for the sake of writing some hot sex scenes.

Spare Dick is a thrilling short story for those who want that full body shiver of excitement. It has characters who made me care and a story that swept me along. I would cheerfully read another story where these three were either the main characters or maybe even simply reoccurring characters. That’s a story you don’t soon forget.

This is part of Ms. terrell’s Black Swamp Mystery series and, even though it would helpful to have read the first book in the series (just because you would already be familiar with the characters), I didn’t find it a problem to pick up without having read the first book.  The characters are well drawn and engaging and there is enough backstory included that I never felt lost.

The author is truly skilled and, with her apt descriptions and well chosen words, she  really amps up the suspense in this story.  There are a lot of twists and turns in the story and Ms. terrell keeps you guessing to the end.

Secrets of a Dangerous Woman is very fast-paced and keeps you entertained and on the edge of your seat as you try to keep up with the story. I’m going to hurry out and get the other books in the series–I enjoyed this one THAT much.

Self-proclaimed sorceress Kora Walsh knows exactly how to use her shiny new MBA. She’ll open a new age shop in a colony of the country’s most powerful witches. But the town rife with bigots doesn’t want her or her sleek shop tainting their perfect community.

Kora would leave if she had any choice in the matter. She’s trained from childhood for her true task—infiltrating coven leadership as her mother’s mole. Failure to do her familial duty is not an option, not when her childhood nemesis is assured her failed soul for an eternity of torture.

Kora Walsh wants nothing more than to open a new age shop in Sedona, AZ, now that she has earned her MBA. She is a sorceress, the daughter of a mortal and a goddess, and her mother has trained her to become her mole in the local colony of witches. Kora’s shop is located on the border between Sedona and Wipuk, a magical community which is invisible to humans. The shop’s first floor is visible to all, but the second floor is in Wipuk, and Kora hopes that this means she will be able to attract customers from both worlds. Unfortunately, Wikup is rife with bigots who don’t want either her or her new shop in their community.

Anya Breton has written an exciting, action-packed novel with some really great characters. I like the premise of two adjoining worlds, magic and human. Kora is very likeable and I was quickly caught up in her adventures. She lived in the world of the gods for the first ten years of her life, but since then she has lived in the human world, acting as an agent for her mother and keeping witches from getting out of control. Kora has some amazing powers, but at heart she is still a young woman fresh out of graduate school wanting to start her own business. Her mother keeps interrupting with various requests for favors, which Kora knows are really orders, sending Kora all over the world to stop witches who are misusing their powers. In spite of the interruptions, she does manage to open her store and I really like the assistant she hires, Nell, the eldest child of the Air witch high priestess. Nell is able to tell Kora all about the Wikup community and Nell lets Kora know that she also has some issues with the magical community. Kora and Nell bond over their mutual dislike of Desmond Marino, the head Water witch, who tries to drive Kora out of Wikup. He may be good looking, but he is truly power-hungry and full of himself.

Breton takes her readers on a marvelous adventure, and I recommend this novel to any lovers of fantasy. The characters are well-drawn, the setting is intriguing, and the plot moves quickly with lots of excitement. The Only Sorceress is the first in a series, but it ends with most of the current plot lines tied up. That being said, I really can’t wait for the next book in the series and I hope it is published soon.

Nothing makes a new school suck worse than discovering the guy you’re in love with is your prophesied nemesis.

Ari is the most powerful flame-throwing sorceress ever, and her people’s last hope in an ancient war. But she’s also a seventeen-year-old girl, and in her free, not-hunting-nemesis times, she jumps from school to school, trying to figure out regular people her own age and pretending she’ll get the chance to graduate.

Shane lives a double life. He goes to school and masters the art of popularity, hiding the fact that he has a fate with a slim chance of his survival. He’s destined to end a 300 year-old war by killing or being killed. He knows he’s hunted by a powerful enemy who’s not afraid to die. Only problem? He has no idea who that enemy is.

When Ari shows up at Shane’s school, angry and sullen and determined to keep him at arm’s reach, neither of them realize they are supposed to be killing each other, not falling in love. Until Ari does realize it, and she almost dies – by Shane’s hand.

Ari is a sorceress, the Prodigy of the Edren family. She has never had a normal life, having been enrolled in sixteen boarding schools in nine years. She’d been homeschooled until third grade, but after that, the Family started sending her out to hunt the Caruleses in a deadly war. The war has been raging for 300 years and the only way for it to end is for one family’s Prodigy to kill the other’s.

Wendy Knight has written a fast-paced action story with very believable and real characters. Ari has had to live a life without friends. No one can find out who she is, so she keeps everyone away from her. She has to drop everything every time her grandfather summons her to do battle again and she is very tired of the killing. When she starts her senior year at yet another boarding school, she discovers people who actually want to get to know her and be friends. I really enjoyed watching Ari dealing with normal high school life and beginning to have fun. “A field full of angry Carules all trying to kill her she understood. Friendly high school girls? Not so much.”

And then there is Shane, the most popular boy in the school. I found Shane to be very likeable as well. He is kind and he has the girls all swooning over him, but he doesn’t let that go to his head. He spends his time with his cousin, Charity, and his best friend, Hunter, trying to led a normal life even though he is actually the Carules’ Prodigy.

There are many wonderful characters in this book and there are also, of necessity, some really horrible ones. The leaders of both groups of sorcerers are determined to keep the war going for their own financial profits. Ari, Shane, Charity, and Hunter have to make some very tough decisions, helped by Ari’s older brother, Will, who is one of the renegade sorcerers, those who have refused to fight any more.

This story is a real page-turner with lots of action and intrigue. But even more than that, there is a depth to the story which makes it much more than just a story about a feuding war. It is a coming-of-age story which is handled realistically and compassionately. The only problem I have with this novel is that it is the first in a series (Fate on Fire), and while it does end in a reasonable spot, I can’t wait to read the next book. I hope it is published soon!

If you enjoy fantasy and intrigue, I recommend that you give Feudlings a try. I am sure you will not be disappointed.

Sophie doesn’t believe in happily ever after. These days, she’d settle for alive after sunrise.

Advice columnist and newly-appointed oracle to the demivampire, Sophie Galen has more issues than a Cosmo collection: a new mentor with a mean streak, a werewolf stalker she can’t shake, and a relationship with her ex’s family that redefines the term complicated. And then there’s her ex himself, who is more interested in playing leader of the vampire pack than in his own salvation.

Becoming a better oracle is tough enough, but when Sophie encounters a deadly enemy – one she never dreamed of facing – it will take everything she’s ever learned in order to survive.

The drama is exciting and, with this book’s protagonist, Sophie, being an agony aunt/therapist to the demivampire race, this excitement reaches new heights; now, they are in danger of turning into monsters, too. It is an original concept but it makes sense: we all need reassurance sometimes.

Sophie is on the ignored end of an epic romance and this book describes the angst and anguish in a way which doesn’t grate. The hurt is realistic and the advice which comes from that hurt feels wise. Therefore Sophie herself is realistic – she has faults and positives and she isn’t the best at her job. In fact, there are no all good characters here – the world is grey and good for it.

There are next to no downsides to picking up this book. The major issue for me, having not read the previous book in the series, is that the introduction does not have too much back-story; for instance, “DV” is used as an acronym but not explained to be ‘demivamp’ until later.

There is also a tendency in the first few pages towards subordinate clauses as sentence starters; ‘I sank into an empty seat,’, ‘Reaching into by bag,’, ‘At the corner,’ and ‘Ironically,’. However, in some places this complements the fast plot pace and there is also very good use of sentence structure early on. The short sentence is used brilliantly – ‘I don’t believe in happily ever after. These days, I’d settle for alive until sunrise’.

In addition, there are very few typo problems; there’s a ‘save told him’ instead of ‘have’, ‘for learning for’ instead of ‘for learning…’, a ‘pass’ instead of ‘past’ and a ‘here’ instead of a ‘her’.

All in all, there is very little wrong with this book and no catastrophic issues at all. In fact, Ash Krafton has created credible characters with their own logic and back-stories and managed to bring them all together in an urban fantasy environment that never feels forced or too incredible. She has done what very few authors have done for me to date: made all her books something I put on my urgent to-read pile.

R. J. Hore has written a gripping and fascinating medieval fantasy which had me captured from the opening paragraph. Harow has never been on a horse and he has never held a sword, but all of a sudden he is in charge of rescuing the Queen and her daughter and getting them to safety. The only soldiers Harow has are the Queen’s palace guards who also have never seen combat. The mage pretends to be Machia, Harow’s servant, and he guides Harow’s actions from the background, although he always seems to have his own agenda. But Harow adapts quickly to his new position. The story is told primarily from Harow’s perspective and he is a very real person, both simple and complex, and I found myself totally engaged in his life. I also liked Queen Reginee who is smart and able to withstand the rigors of travel far better than her spoiled daughter. Many of the supporting characters are also richly drawn, adding to the depth of the story.

The lands Howe and his party travel through are described vividly and in great detail, so that I really felt as if I were one of the group. The plot has a number of unexpected twists, which certainly add to the suspense. The action is fast-paced with never a dull or slow moment. And the ending was both believable and satisfactory.

If you enjoy fantasy set in a medieval world, I am sure you will really enjoy The Queen’s Pawn. The engaging characters as well as the complex plot make for an exciting novel from start to finish.

When the Skithdronian army attacks the border area where the Fadoral family keep lies, Rath is luckily nearby, running training exercises with a whole wing of fighting dragons and their knights. As he waits for the rest of the dragons to answer the call to arms, he and his group begin to battle the vicious skiths, flaming them from the ground while those with knights attack from above, trying to drive the forces back over the border. When one of the evil, lizard-like creatures gets past Rath and wounds him with its acid venom, Rath and the others are stunned to see a man, the Fadoral Master at Arms, single-handedly battle and kill the beast. As this is a never before seen feat, Rath is very impressed, and after the battle, he ‘speaks’ the man, Tristan.

Lady Cara, daughter of the late lord of Fadoral, offers the hospitality of the keep until Rath is well enough to travel, and Rath accepts. He wants to learn more of this Tristan, a warrior like none has ever seen. The more Rath sees, the more he believes he has found his next knight. There are other considerations to be checked as well. Sir Thorn, the knight bonded to Rath’s mate, would need to accept Tristan, and they would need to find a woman willing to take both Tristan and Thorn as husbands, in the way of the knights of Draconia. And all is not as it seems in the house of Fadoral, with secrets that will totally change many lives in the area. Can Thorn and Tristan convince Lady Cara to take a chance with both of them? Will Tristan accept the offer of becoming Rath’s knight, with all that it entails? Can these five make a new start as a family in the Border Lair?

The world of Draconia is as fascinating as always, with strong and charismatic characters, thrilling battles, and lots of secrets to be revealed. And of course, lots of hot ménage romance. This story fits between The Border Lair and the Ice Dragon, and tells the story of Sir Tristan, and how he became a knight of Draconia.

Tristan is courageous, smart, and honorable. He left his homeland, knowing he could never return without causing upheaval. He accepted the post of Master at Arms for Fadoral keep, and has fulfilled his duties admirably. He made the mistake, just once, of bedding Lady Cara, not knowing she was the daughter of the house. He lost his heart to her, but feels he isn’t worthy of her attention, so he keeps her at arms length when they meet. But his heart hasn’t forgotten, and neither has he. I like Tristan for his loyalty, his honesty and his determination. He refuses to let others influence him in any way.

Lady Cara is beautiful, strong-willed and independent, and not some simpering useless lady. She has fought along side the men since her brother was wounded and laid up in his bed. She is smart enough to realize things will change once her brother recovers, and she dreads the day, because he plans to wed he to an old man who offers much to gain Lady Cara. When she met Rath and the others, she discovered that there could be another way out for her, and begins to let hope spark in her heart again. I like Cara’s strength and spirit, and her willingness to have an open mind toward the future.

Sir Thorn is a knight of Draconia, bonded to Rath’s mate Sharliss. He has admired Cara from the time he first met her, but believed he would never have the chance to be more than a friend. When he meets Tristan, and sees how things could be, he has hope for his own future as well and his dragon partner’s happiness. I like Thorn for his quiet and steady demeanor, and his determination to ferret out the secrets that have been hidden in Fadoral ‘s archives to set things right.

There is something for everyone in this book; battles, intrigue, hidden secrets revealed, and lots of passion and romance. And of course, the dragons and their knights. I like that Ms. D’Arc is filling in details of how some of the knights met their dragons, and enriching the history of Draconia along with all the romance. I hope she continues to bring out more as time goes by, as well as providing fresh and exciting adventures in this, my favorite world of the D’Arc side.

Lindsay Snow can’t help but notice the new cop in her small town—he’s hot, charming and—best of all—he’s not in town for long. When a call to shut down a horrific puppy mill exposes the tough, sexy cop’s dark memories, Lindsay’s heart wants desperately to reach out to him. Even as her instincts remind her that relationships are just a train wreck waiting to happen…

It is common knowledge that a book should be not judged by its cover. The same can be said for people. A hot guy who has a beautiful smile, great body, and wears a uniform can be a much more than meets the eyes. The heroine of Beneath the Badge, Lindsay Snow, judged Matt Parker based on her first impression and she was so wrong. Matt was more than just a great body in a police officer’s uniform.

In this short contemporary romance novel that is both sweet and dark, readers will meet two deeply wounded characters. At first it seems that they are irreversibly broken, but once they decide to give a relationship a try, they are able to overcome their sadness and open their hearts to love. And with love, the healing process started.

What I loved the most about Beneath the Badge were the characters. Both Lindsay and Matt are strong individuals who have a lot of emotional wounds, which are really serious and are a great obstacle for their relationship. But the author did a marvelous job in resolving their issues in a realistic way. The story focused solely on the development of their relationship, and there are no secondary characters.

Due to the complexity of the characters, this was an emotional read for me. I experienced a roller coaster of emotions and I enjoyed it very much. I learned something from this story; that you cannot help a person who does not want to be helped, no matter how hard you try.

Great characters and an interesting storyline is what made Beneath the Badge a great read for me. I highly recommend it.
