Instead of going back to Earth after one of her targets shoots her with a poison-tipped dart, Sapphire takes her mother’s advice and seeks out the greatest healer their people have. How was she to know that just being near him would send her senses reeling and tie her stomach into knots? When five males arrive to convince her that Galen is not the right dragon for her, will Sapphire run for cover or will she fight alongside the dragon male who saved her life and preserved her freedom to choose?

Dragons don’t mate like humans. The males fight over the females. Once a male “marks” her, she’s his for life. Sapphire is not really impressed by that. She thinks she has the right to pick her own mate. Good thing Galen is strong enough to fight off the other male dragons while she “decides.”

This series has been fun to read. The authors create very strong dragon characters and imbue them with honor, a firm sense of right from wrong, and a dedication to their duties. They are fighting fit and fast enough to win most fights. It’s like watching gladiators fight.

You can tell the authors are working their way up to some spectacular conclusion down the road. Finding out about each new dragon swan and her dragon is well worth the read.

Why not grab this series and settle down to read about a world in the future where dragons and humans live together uneasily and an apocalypse could come to pass one day?

Sahar is so easy to like. She’s a classic teenage girl in many respects. She has a loyal best friend, a wicked enemy, and a crush on the most popular boy in town. On top of the usual challenges of being a teenager, Sahar’s life is further complicated by the fact that her town is full of shape shifters and it doesn’t seem like she’s ever going to “flip” into an animal form. I think Ms. Trujillo’s approach is unique and a great addition to the paranormal genre.

As if worrying about her lack of shape shifting abilities wasn’t enough, Sahar’s life is further complicated when people start dying in the woods. It becomes clear her small home town is full of secrets that will change her life forever. As the story progresses, Sahar comes face to face with a lot of big revelations concerning not just her town, but also her family and herself. There are some big surprises concerning his character revealed near the end of the story. However, even after finishing the book, I still don’t feel like I really know Luke, Dean, or any of the other secondary characters very well. I would have liked to get to know them in greater depth.

The pacing of True North really picks up toward the end. I had one piece of the puzzle figured out, but the master mind behind it all was a surprise. There are not one, but two very intense battles that had me racing to the end of the book. The ending is neat and satisfying, but again, I was left wanting a bit more detail especially concerning the antagonist’s motivations. Despite this issue, I had a smile on my face when I finished the book.

True North is a fun, fast paced story with an interesting take on shape shifters. I enjoyed every minute spent reading it. Fans of paranormal romance looking for a quick read with a happy ending should give True North a try.

Helen Taline is an Alliance pilot when she goes against her captain’s orders to abandon defenseless civilians in the middle of a battle. When she’s cleared of mutiny charges, she’s offered a chance at a new beginning, as the first pilot for a new and promising venture, the Sector Guard.

When Hyder Mihal recruits her, she doesn’t realize there’s more behind the offer than just her piloting skills. Getting a new defensive force up and running is challenge enough. Learning you’ll be working alongside your perfect match and making history at each turn is more than a bit daunting. Luckily, Helen is up for the challenge, and accepts the chance of a lifetime.

But can Pilot and Commander overcome the skepticism and doubt of those who want to shut down the Sector Guard before it even starts? It’ll be hard enough to convince Kale-Gant to allow the use of Morganti as the first Sector Guard base. When an emergency arises, will Pilot, Commander and a handful of recruits prove this force is sorely needed?

This is the story of the very beginning of The Sector Guard, how it was brought about, the challenges it faced in the beginning, and how Pilot and Commander first met. Hyder Mihal is a strong, desirable and gentle man, a doctor and healer. He has the talent to bring couples together, as a matchmaker. Until he met Helen, he despaired of ever meeting his own match. I enjoyed watching as Helen and Hyder sparred and played and built a strong and unbreakable bond between them. Hyder is loyal and I loved watching as he let the other recruits know Helen was off limits to them all, while still giving her the freedom she needed to do her job, as both pilot and recruiter.

Viola Grace has certainly enchanted with the adventures of the Sector Guard. Each story has a unique pairing of prospective mates and high adventure. There’s danger mixed in with the romance. I love that she has left the best for last, with the history and origins of Sector Guard for a wrap up. I recommend this for all who love adventure and fantasy with their romance.

I love that he has waited years for Sekhara to make her decision, and still has the patience to wait for her. I apprecited his loyalty and devotion to Sekhara.

This is a romance, an adventure, and a thriller all set in one of Ms. Grace’s fantastic worlds. When a new and unseen threat surfaces, it’s up to the team to unite to try and track it down. There are several surprises in this one, and one really big revelation of how things will get worse for the Guard before they get better. I recommend this for those who enjoy their romance set in futuristic and unusual places, with a myriad of special effects and lots of fun thrown in.

When a cry for help cannot be ignored or a child cries or evil is made to serve good or the taking the high road leads to disaster, the only thing we can trust are our gut feelings and that goes for humans too.

Alas, as usual, I started reading this fine collection around 10 PM and galopped through the first story, and then, fatally attracted by the mention of the word “attorney” I foolishly decided to check out the next one. I read that one, too. Then, since it was clear I’d need a whole pot of coffee to function in the morning, I read the third.

Don’t repeat my mistake. Start reading early in the day.

The first story, Hope, about an alien involved in a space disaster, hooked me right away. I liked the alien heroine, and I rooted for, hoping she’d get rescued. But I found myself disappointed in the way the story played out. While the human who discovered the disaster was well-drawn and the level of technology on both alien and human sides believable, I, for one, hoped for more involvement between them – and a more satisfying ending thant a simple “thanks” back from the aliens. Realistic, yes. Is that the way I hoped the story would end? Nope. I wanted romance or I wanted the two races to meet and become allies. Alas, not in this story. Still, I was very entertained.

The next story in the collection, An Exercise in Revenge, is a light-hearted piece about a mysterious case of murder–or apparent murder–and an attorney who gets involved with alien clients. buy levitra uk A person basically faces problems in his erections when he is making love with his partner. It involved a couple of alien races, drawn quickly but with enough detail to support the plot. The author handled the central conflict–compassion versus the needs of war–in a manner that allowed me to see both sides while still rooting for the main character and hoping that his point of view would prevail. The strong ending left me satisfied. But best of all, the story played out in an unexpected and very though-provoking manner. I’m still turning the whole thing over in my mind.

My only beef with this collection was its organization. While I found all three stories engrossing reading, and the last one, for me, a home run, I didn’t feel that the first story belonged with the other two–and certainly not as the lead story. I believe that a stronger collection would have resulted with the second story as the lead and the third as the final story.

If you’re looking for a quick, entertaining, engrossing read, these three stories of aliens and humans will not only entertain you, they’ll leave you mulling them over long after you close the book.

A little slow to begin with, but definitely worth the perseverance. I liked the fact it didn’t matter that I hadn’t read the first book in the series. I caught up pretty quickly without any long drawn out explanation.

Definitely a worthwhile read for those who like something a tad different.

The author has put together history of the navy with an alien from space. The story flows well and has the usual villains and heroes, but there is also a sense of humor. They hire “Lucky Pete” a sailor who has lost one leg, a hand and two fingers as well as being blinded. This is apart from other disfigurements gathered from when he was taken prisoner by cannibals. Why is he considered lucky? Ah well you’ll have to read the book to find out. The way Pete and other characters are introduced, and when the mechanical lady defends herself, are all handled with a lighthearted tone which enhances the smooth flow of the story.

The plot is interesting, the characters well-rounded, the writing descriptive. The details at the beginning of the book state it is the first of a brand new series and I couldn’t be more pleased. I look forward to reading more about Captain James Hartwell and Lady Mechatronic. If the following books are as good as this one I believe Ms Wyatt will have a winning series.

Jake Carson’s dream of becoming a cattle rancher has just become a reality when two of his men are shot and he is left for dead. His cattle are rustled, and now, by golly, he’s bent on revenge. Jake’s story of survival, revenge, and finding love makes a satisfying, quick read, and the story moves along at a lively pace.

Jake and Yani, a Ute Indian maiden, are complex and well-developed characters. Yani wants to please her family, but that would mean giving up Jake. Jake knows that Yani isn’t free to choose him, so he keeps his distance. Yet they have a hard time keeping apart.

The setting, 1850’s Utah Territory, is vividly drawn out and sufficiently exotic that it held my interest throughout. Even though I’ve never been to Utah, Ms. Suzanne’s writing helped me to clearly picture the vast expanses. Yani’s dilemma, whether or not to submit to the traditional marriage arranged by her tribe, or to give in to her feelings for Jake, is one many readers, whatever their ethnicity, can relate to. It was obvious from the beginning that Easterner Jake is naive. He never considers that the cattle rustlers have already shot two of his men and would have no problem with shooting him as well. It seemed a little convient that when his life is on the line the Utes take him and nurse him back to health when they seem to barely know him. Still, this was a minor question in my mind and didn’t really hinder my enjoyment of this lively tale.

The author did an excellent job of building up Jake’s motivation and determination for revenge. I had no doubt that he would be ready, willing and able to shoot the three bad guys if and when he ever caught up to them. Apart from the revenge factor, I pulled for Jake and Yani to have a happy ever after.

I couldn’t help but want more. This story felt like a novel compressed into the space of a short story. The tale begins with a bit of an info-dump, three pages of straight back story, before we get into the guts of the tale, where Jake is driving his cattle to Salt Lake City to sell. However, Mary Suzanne knows how to tell a story. Once past the initial three pages, I couldn’t put it down so I encourage other readers to push on through.

The end felt real and satisfying, and I thought about Jake and Yani long after I finished reading. If you’re looking for a quickie to pass the time, this story won’t disappoint.

Set in the late 1800s, Samuel’s Promise describes the love story of Samuel and Nancy Ruggles who were forced together by faith and the desire to serve God overseas in Hawaii. Samuel’s friend Henry Opukaha’ia, a native Hawaiian, dies before he can lead the missionaries to his homeland, Samuel promises him on his deathbed he will indeed return to Hawaii to fulfill his friend’s dying wish. Samuel has one problem—he’s not married and the company will only accept couples to the group. Nancy Wells works in the office of the Foreign Mission School and she too believes God is calling her to serve overseas, but after her true love was killed years earlier, Nancy closed her heart to everyone but God, and learns she too must find a husband quickly if her dream is to become reality.

Nancy is stuck in the past. For the last ten years, she’s mourned her dead love, Thomas, and refused to move on. Now God’s going to give her a kick in the rear, throwing her in the path of Samuel Ruggles. Both are unmarried, both feel the call as missionaries, and both will need to marry someone by the end of the week if they want to go on the mission trip to the Sandwich Islands.

Both Nancy and Samuel are well portrayed. I felt Nancy’s humiliation when she overhears a conversation between Samuel and Lucy Thurston, who, with her husband, runs a mission school. Poor Nancy. Every time the author described Nancy’s stringy brown hair, I wanted to haul her off to CVS and buy her a large bottle of volumizing shampoo. But, alas, no CVS in the late 1800’s, and, after a little prompting from God in the form of a dream about the two of them, Samuel decides Nancy is the woman for him. Yes, I did enjoy seeing Samuel squirm as he tries to convince Nancy he really does want to marry her.

This is at bottom a straightforward story of the beginning of a marriage and a sea voyage, without many twists and turns. In spite of this, the author managed to hold my interest throughout. I worried, reading about poor Samuel’s chest congestion, that he had consumption – in which case his goose would have been cooked – but, fortunately, it turned out to be what I’m guessing was a bad case of pneumonia (the author never specifies), and Nancy spends most of the sea voyage nursing Samuel back to health.

I did find the missionary aspects of this novel disturbing, as I believe very strongly in not imposing my own cultural prejudices on others, and that is exactly what I see the missionaries do with the islanders when they make them clothing. However, putting aside my disparaging views of missionaries in general, in this case the author has done a good job in showing that the islanders, or specifically Hewahewa, are looking to be saved.

I was not, I admit, paying attention in Social Studies, and thus the information that the author manages to drop into the novel about the Sandwich Islanders and the visions of their spiritual leader, Hewahewa interesting enough to encourage me to look for a book about the history of the islands. There’s just enough here to move the novel forward and tantalize the reader. Library, here I come.

If you like historical romance and want a satisfying, inspirational story, don’t miss this well written, well plotted novel. You won’t be disappointed.
