My sister loves reading Lynsay Sands’ books. There was one book in particular that she said I just had to read called The Switch. My sister knows my taste in books and promised me that I’d love it and I did. Well, it’s my turn to tell her that she just has to read A Lady in Disguise.

I was thoroughly entertained throughout this story. This was a historical romance with some suspense and mystery. While the book was lengthy, the pace was not. I was riveted to A Lady in Disguise from beginning to end.

I loved the heroine, Maggie. She was worse than a cat getting herself into sticky situations. She even said it to herself numerous times “Only you, Maggie”. I can completely relate to that statement since I often find myself in predicaments that only I can possibly get myself into. Maggie made me laugh out loud on more than one occasion. I do have to address the frequency of how many times she was hit in the head. It reached the ridiculous meter amount a couple of times. However, who am I to judge the reasonable amount of times one can get whacked in the head? All of Maggie’s other character traits made up for this tiny little ripple. I admired her loyalty, bravery and cleverness.

The hero, Lord James, was swoon worthy. Excuse me while I wipe the drool off my lip. He is the man of my dreams. Gorgeous, strong, intelligent with leadership skills and full of chemistry. He is perfectly capable of handling Maggie with all her shenanigans. Together as a couple they were irresistible to love. I thought they made a perfect match which often brought a smile to my face.

There were other characters that were well developed that added to the enjoyment of the story. One such character was James’s Aunt Vivian. I loved how she put James in his place and was understanding and accepting of Maggie’s plight.

The ending was epic with all the plot threads neatly wrapped up. I was definitely left with a book glow as I reminisced about the developing romantic relationship between Maggie and James. A Lady in Disguise contained unpredictable plot threads that lead me on a reading journey that I didn’t want to put down or end. I highly recommend this book to future readers–but especially to my sister.

Thus, if the mind is not in the right place, a order cheap levitra young man may experience difficulties during arousal. Ilona Andrews has done it again. She’s written a thrilling, gripping, and electrifying story. I’m blown away by her mastery of the descriptive word. The action, the suspense, the not knowing and the twist and turns of Prime politics is dizzying in its scope. 400 pages aren’t enough, and yet, they are. I feel like I am on the ground floor of something big, momentous and altogether dangerous. The Hidden Legacy series is a must read and Sapphire Flames just proves my point.

Catalina is growing up before my eyes. In the original three books in the series, she was just Nevada’s beloved younger sister with a very unique power. In this newest book, she’s owning her power, shouldering her responsibilities and starting to accept her role as Head of House Baylor. Her growing pains are real because her injuries are real. So much is thrown at her that I’m very grateful for her 3 years of training. And yet, she’s faced with so many decisions that can hurt or help the people she loves, it’s a bit overwhelming. How the author had her handling things, making the kinds of choices she did and giving me a chance to see inside Catalina’s thought processes made it very personal to me. The heroine is a heroine because she does what needs to be done in spite of her being scared, terrified and sometimes wishing it would all go away. I also appreciated that she was loyal to her family and those she calls friends. That loyalty was sure put to the test.

Alessandro is an enigma. Yes, he is sexy, strong, and off the charts magically talented. I have no idea what he can actually do but I received teases and hints with his interaction with Duncan. I get the sense that unlike his previous fiancés, he might be serious about Catalina. I hope so because I actually like the guy, even though he’s super secretive. I also think he’s really good for and with Catalina. I wish I could get into his head but this novel is first person POV so I only know what the heroine knows when she knows it. I’m as intrigued by Alessandro as she is. I totally cracked up when he sneaked a bite of Catalina’s veggie. That was one of the funniest moments in the story.

There was action, action and more action in this book. I never knew who was going to turn into what and I worried for some of the characters in harm’s way. I really wanted the heroine to rescue Runa’s family member and that was a great part of the mystery. Who did it and why? How did they do it and how can they be stopped? Tagging along with Catalina and Alessandro as they chase the clues was exciting.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that the hints of romance between the two heats up in the next book. The two of them were practically smoking from the sparks of their passion. I was worried that it would be unrequited. I worried for nothing. It’s there, it’s brewing and it’s oh so powerful. I can’t wait to see them explode. I hope they do. I had a taste of it and it wasn’t enough. I want Catalina to be 100% herself and I want the same for the hero. That would be fun because the hero is just so yummy and I think he’d make her very, very satisfied.

I assure you, Sapphire Flames is loaded with stuff to share. Like how she got a dog, what those icky bug things did, why it was so important to help Runa and how cool of a character Duncan really is. The dialogue was great and the pace was consistently well balanced. I tried to read this book in one day. I tried so hard but there was too much goodness and not enough time to take it all in. I didn’t want the story to end. I wanted to see what would happen next but the epilogue proved to me that it was impossible. I was teased with something so fascinating and unexpected I was stunned. That was when I realized what was needed – another book.

As you can probably tell, I enjoyed this novel to the max and highly recommend it. The world that Ms. Andrews has created is incredible!

But Mina is no damsel in distress. She’s daring, intuitive, passionate…and halfway to melting Drew’s cold heart. And although Mina thought she knew exactly what she wanted, one breathtakingly seductive kiss from Drew changes everything. Now Mina must decide between long-held dreams and dangerous new desires. Could her true destiny lie in the arms of a duke?

This was a one day read filled with excitement, daring-do and a remarkably energetic romance. I enjoyed myself tremendously and the epilogue left me feeling bubbly and happy. What’s not to like?

One Fine Duke has adventure, danger, an unusual spunky heroine and a hero in need of saving. Mina is afraid of never living life, of being put behind a wall for her safety and staying there, forever, while Drew is already behind a figurative wall and is afraid of coming out from behind it. What they both want isn’t what they need and what they need they don’t think they want. This novel explores how their lives are turned upside down, shaken up and tossed upon a path of discovery, shocking revelations and sensual exploration. For a reader that means one word: Fun.

The sparks fly pretty quickly between Mina and Drew. There is the trope of the bored duke being intrigued by a woman who flaunts the norm and gets past his ennui enough to inspire some out-of-character actions. That’s how their relationship begins but nowhere near where the author takes a reader. Ms. Bell takes that platform and creates well-rounded, flawed, quirky and fallible characters that attract, charm and beguile the reader. The heroine is clever, has a goal and a dream to achieve and her methodology is unconventional yet effective. The hero has never had a chance to reconcile his fears from being kidnapped when he was a kid and his coping mechanism, though changed through the years, has yet to get the job done. Between the two of them, they can have it all, but first, they have to solve a mystery, save Drew’s brother and avenge the death of Mina’s parents.

How the story unfolds, the dialogue between the hero and heroine and what Mina’s extraordinary curiosity leads her to discover, all make for a frequent tendency to flip the pages at a furious pace many times throughout the novel because it’s just so exciting! The part with the chair is hilarious, the shed scene sealed Mina’s fate as far as I’m concerned, and Drew’s daisy dream is attached to something wickedly delicious.

I’ll be absolutely shocked if One Fine Duke isn’t a best seller. I enjoyed it so much, smiled so often and even blushed a time or two; I really believe readers are going to enjoy the romance between Mina and Drew as much as I did. Ms. Bell has a winner.

I’d never read a book by Beverly Jenkins, but I’d seen her name plenty of times. I wish I would’ve grabbed one of her books before now. Wow! I was instantly taken with this story. The writing is crisp and kept me in my seat. I read well past my bedtime and I’m glad. The story was worth it.

The characters are well-rounded and I couldn’t get enough. Drake is a strong man and loyal. I liked how the relationship with Valinda unfolded. She’s determined and sweet, but she’s headstrong, too. I liked their pairing.

I also enjoyed how the author worked the Reconstruction era into the book. Now it wasn’t hard since that’s when it takes place, but so many authors gloss over the eras rather than showcase them. Not so with this book. I felt the hardships, the racism and struggle, but also the love between Valinda, Drake and the LeVeq family.

Together, they must grab hold of a destiny that has the power to either heal them or destroy them.

But the truth is far more shattering than anyone could imagine . . .

I found a fun treasure in my TBR pile. The best thing about discovering the Jaguar Warrior series is that there are three books already published so I can binge read. After reading His Darkest Hunger I was left with a craving to find out what happens next to Jaxon’s brothers. The last chapter left me with a hook and a good idea as to who was going to fall in love next. I’m intending to buy the other two so I can find out.

Ms. Stone wasted no time in immersing me into the action between Jaxon and Libby. At first I thought they were enemies, but the plot is far more intricate and devious than what first appears. Complications pile on top of each other and the twists and turns culminate in harrowing escapes, rescues missions that don’t seem to work out, and an evil force that only presents itself in the final few chapters. Throughout all of that chaos is the romance between Libby and Jaxon. Their passion isn’t a pale thing but a seething cauldron filled with emotions so powerful they can’t help but be together, even when they’re not sure in their trust for each other. Their relationship is definitely a work in progress.

I enjoyed my reading experience, no question about that. I did have a few issues, like when the pace dragged at times, the repetition about Jaxon’s inner jaguar and the difficulty he has with his jaguar, and how easily he seems to fly off of the handle when he’s supposed to be this hotshot, in-charge anti-terrorist warrior. The balance was a bit off kilter. The sex scenes were well written and readers who enjoy every juicy tidbit, in detail, with pages worth of description, will be eminently pleased. I found the story and plot strong enough to skim those parts and never miss a beat. It’s the suspense, romance, explosive action, complications and plot twists that kept my fascinated gaze glued to the pages.

Secondary characters had strong supporting roles in addition to Jaxon’s brothers. Declan in particular stood out. Readers will find out why when they get to the cave. That was an ‘Oooooh’ moment.

Like I said, this was a fun read and I enjoyed spending time with Jaxon and Libby and learning about the ultimate plot thread that I’m sure is going to be woven into the next two books in the series. That kind of evil just can’t be vanquished in only one book. If readers haven’t discovered Ms. Stone’s Jaguar Warrior series yet, then I recommend giving His Darkest Hunger a whirl. I’m especially determined to read the other two after reading the review of the third book, here. Talk about incentive!

These two characters are multi-faceted and have their secrets. Luckily, the misunderstandings between them do not take too long to resolve. They are reasonable people, and both experience a certain amount of growth as they experience some of the darker sides of Victorian London. Right away, readers are certain to like these two, for their caring natures. The sparks between them are understandable.

Important themes in this story include helping underprivileged children, class relations, betrayal, friendship, and growing apart due to growing older and experiencing harrowing situations. These themes blend with perfection around the major theme of love between two people who come from incompatible backgrounds and yet have enough in common naturally to be drawn together.

While these ideas play out, readers will be familiar with some of them, but other historical information will be new and interesting to discover. These historical tidbits bring to light little-known facts and help to create the world in which these characters reside. There is a social message here, and as the characters work within this with their goals, it enhances their likability.

Suspense is built because the main characters have changed over the years. But has their love for each other died? Can it possibly be revived, and if so, how will it be expressed between two people who are now so different? And what will become of the children they are trying to help?

The complications, of course, add intrigue to the story, and the author resolves them beautifully. There are enough twists and turns in this novel to keep readers guessing.

As for the style, Finn and Vivi’s story is written clearly with emotionally-provocative language. The dialogue truly helps readers to understand motives. The subplot gives an urgency to the characters’ cause and brings out their best.

This is a quite enjoyable story written by a talented author. I would recommend this book to those who love historical romance.

But now that duty has finally called on him to marry, he finds himself entranced by the mysterious, independent-minded Viola. Then her late husband’s son returns from overseas, contesting Viola’s inheritance. Lowell longs to help her and sets out to convince Viola that a strategic union may be the best way to save all she holds dear. But can he also persuade her to take a chance on love…?

A wonderful, well paced plot. You are immersed into the world of hackneys and coaches, women in long dresses and men in top coats. Viola is such a strong character: sweet, yet full of determination and stubbornness. She is very wary of the attention Henry is paying her, it reminds her too much of Robert. Henry, an incredibly strong character that is full of self-confidence and a great deal of stubbornness, which is good as it will take everything, he has to woo her to his arms.

There is one great scene when Henry starts to woo her. He sends her a huge bucket of all sorts of flowers and herbs, sending it to the hospital and saying it was for the hospital. He knew that would be the only way she would take them. He is careful with every touch of truth she gives him. For example, she had to admit to him that she could not read without her glasses and she was mortified if anyone caught her wearing them. So, he had a waiter discretely bring him a pair and hid her face. All these small touches start to wear her down until he finally breaks through her walls. I enjoyed the interaction between the two; every single one pulls their relationship further along and I think the scene that finally show Viola that she can trust him is when they went to a beach alone except for her dog Rex.

I loved the fact that Henry marries her, first because he loves her but also, he knows that with his family connections the case with Robert may go better. Robert is a very twisted man, known for his violence and only wants to hurt Viola. I wanted to slap him with the comments he made. But I do enjoy what happens to him afterwards.

A wonderful historical romance with such vivid characters and scenery that you feel like you are another one of the characters friends and are going through the same things. Once you start it will be hard to put down.

When the Duke of Autenberry approaches him with a proposition—marry my ruined sister—it seems the perfect solution. Even better, the defiant lass stirs him to his very soul.

No escaping the truth…

Except marriage cannot set them free. No matter how much Hunt desires her. No matter how much Clara burns for him. Soon she is falling for her husband, but is love enough to end the curse? Or is the tragic history of the MacLarin Clan doomed to repeat itself?

Wow, talk about a dark cloud overhanging a family. One that has taken victims for quite a few generations until it comes to our hero, Hunt. He’s full of vim and vigor, strength and a healthy sense of fun. Okay, maybe not so healthy based on his actions in the inn. But it did produce one thing – an interest in a feisty visitor from England. Not to mention that the whole scene garnered quite of few giggles and snickers as I read through it. It was rather fun.

Clara is unusual in many ways but she’s a fast thinker. What she came up with to avoid actually marrying that other guy was daring and fraught with risk but she doesn’t shy away from challenge. That’s a good thing because winning Hunt’s heart is not easy, especially when he finds out about her lie. The lie that always gets revealed at the most inopportune moment ever is a well-used trope but Ms. Jordan used it effectively and with excellent results. More good reading.

The main crux of the conflict is Hunt’s impending death. Too many things happen for Clara to discount it as impossible, as a superstition. That there might be something to it? That reality propelled their relationship towards a direction that a reader can see is the key to developing their attraction into true love. It’s rocky, it’s tender, it’s passionate and it’s what kept me glued to this novel’s pages.

I really, truly believed that Hunt’s grandmother hated Clara. I didn’t doubt it for a second. Clara amazed me by not acting like a typical heroine who’s been threatened. That part clearly illustrated her strength of character, and made her a worthy match for Hunt.

The ending was truly happy, enchantingly adorable and filled with love and a bright future. The epilogue ensured a reader that all is well on all fronts and it was refreshing. The fly in the ointment, so to speak, comes from the solid tease about Clara’s best friend, Marian, and what could possibly cause this practical, stoic and efficient young lady to panic. That’s a book screaming to be read and I’m so grateful it’s coming out later this year. Sign me up because if it’s as good a story as This Scot of Mine then I’m in for another good time. Bring it on.

Nicholas Lyon gambled his way into a fortune and ownership of the most opulent, notorious gentlemen’s club in England. But when Nick’s cruel brother dies, he inherits a title he never wanted. The sooner Nick is rid of the estate that has always haunted him, the sooner he can return to the life he’s built in London. But there’s one obstacle—the exquisite Thomasina Thorne.

When the new heir to the Tremayne dukedom suddenly appears in Mina Thorne’s life, she’s flustered. Not only is he breathtakingly handsome, but he’s also determined to take away her home and position as steward of the Enderley estate. If Mina learns what makes the enigmatic duke tick, perhaps she can change his mind—as long as she doesn’t get too close to him.

With each day Nick spends with Mina, his resolve weakens as their colliding wills lead to explosive desire. Could she be the one woman who can help him finally bury the ghosts of his past?

When you are ‘out on a limb’ one’s real character shines through.

Nick Lyon, actually Duke Tremayne, is willing to settle for being a villain if that is the price of freedom. He’s ruthless. Determined. And unexpectedly kind.

Thomasina ‘Mina’ Thorne is not the ‘Thomas’ estate manager he expected. She does, after all, often use just her first initial…it’s not a lie, she tells him. It might be that he has his first inkling right then, that his own determination might have met its match.

I simply loved A Duke Changes Everything. Ms. Carlyle’s writing style is quick and conversational, her characters believable; and better yet, interesting. Their situation is trying! Both our main characters have their own goals, and of course, these are in direct opposition; while their attraction is entirely mutual…

Mina, for all that she is well-schooled, is as wild at heart as Nick. And Nick, though ruthless, commands our sympathies. He has suffered and occasionally acts weirdly, giving us a bit of a puzzle at times.

A Duke Changes Everything includes everything that is the best of the Very Victorian romance: from locations and activities to expectations and society.

I loved specific mentions of the articles of daily life; little details like the traces in the horse harness as well as the greater demands of running an estate. Historic romance reader will love this. A Must Read.
