Kate Bryant is on the upside of the lowest point of her life. The successful completion of her cooking telethon is the recipe to a happy ending until a tasty chef threatens to upstage her plans.

Cliff Roundtree had his eye on the future until his long-time lover skewered his heart. Quietly celebrating his first year as a restaurateur, his composure is shaken by the madcap appearance of Kate who stirs his passion for more than haute cuisine.

Working together they find their personal agendas diverted by a scalding, sexually-charged hunger. Will their attraction collapse like a soufflé pulled too quickly from the oven or set the pot to boiling?

What’s Cooking Now is true romance in that it’s a “boy meets girl, likes girl, girl meets boy, likes boy” story.

Kate Bryan is a likeable heroine. She has a focus. She must complete this telethon - she has a lot riding on it. The only ‘hiccup’ in this story, I felt was the way Ms. Harper handled the details of how Kate lost custody of her daughter. I really had some trouble liking Kate because I was unsure of the circumstances that lead to this. Once they were revealed, I liked Kate much more. I think if I had known earlier, Kate would probably have been one of my all time favorite heroines. She’s intelligent, funny, and very sincere.

Cliff Roundtree is definitely one of my all time favorite heroes. He is self assured without being overbearing, a charmer without being sappy and does this man know his way around a kitchen (and not just for cooking!).

Kate and Cliff’s relationship gets off to a rocky start, “This even topped breaking her ankle at a friend’s wedding, disrupting the ceremony, and being carried off on a stretcher to the sound of a whirring siren instead of the usual rendition of ‘Here Comes the Bride’.” But once they make it past the beginning, their relationship continues to develop and grow. Ms. Harper does an excellent job building and maintaining the sexual tension right up until the ‘big finish’ - and what a finish. A sex scene that includes food, a broken bed, and many other surprises.

Jeff and Alyson are delightful secondary characters that add humor, seriousness, and a romance of their own. The story plot moves at a steady pace that will keep the reader hooked and entertained.

What’s Cooking Now would make a wonderful read for anyone that enjoys a simple romance story.
