Heart Surgeon Stone Lassiter has successfully transplanted beating hearts. It's his own that is causing him the most agony. With a death bed promise to his fiancée, he’s driven to open a transplant center in her hometown, and arrives at Deerborne County General Hospital. Single minded in his focus, he inadvertently alienates the nursing staff he needs to make his dream a success. He sets his stethoscope on intensive care nurse, Faith Daniels, to improve his image.

Nurse of the Year, Faith Daniels has passed every nursing exam, but when faced with the task of the MCAT, she has severe test anxiety. Burned by her ex-husband, who used her while she put him through law school, she has become focused on passing that darn exam, and achieving her own dream to become a doctor in her own right.

Will the white lie Stone tells Faith jeopardize the love they find?

Faith Daniels is one of the best nurses that Deerborne hospital has ever had. She is smart, sensitive and caring. But Faith has other dreams that she wants to pursue: she wants to become a doctor. However, the chances of that dream coming to pass are extremely small because she has to pass the MCAT, an impossible feat for someone who battles severe test anxiety. When Doctor Lassiter agrees to assist her in exchange for four dates to events hosted by Deerborne Hospital, she can’t help but agree.

Doctor Stone Lassiter has his dream of starting a transplant centre at Deerborne at stake. It seems that the hospital might not fund his dream due to the fact that he does not get along with all the nurses. Needing to fulfill a promise he made long ago, he asks Faith Daniels to accompany him to the Deerborne hosted events to improve his image. In exchange he will coach her for her MCAT and help her get over her test anxiety. Never mind that he does not know the first thing about test anxiety.

The Doctor’s Deception was a wonderful story about second chances. I enjoyed Faith and Stone’s sparring immensely. Their relationship progresses realistically and at a steady rate and both of them contribute to the relationship. Revolving in and around the hospital, the story provided a clear look into the workings of the hospital and the jobs of nurses and doctors. It was a great novel and I am looking forward to more books by Kathleen Grieve!
