Joanna Spencer, a single working mother, finally achieves her career aspirations only to find her new position far more than she bargained for. Her new boss is none other than the arrogant, womanizing playboy who gave her the most tantalizing kiss she had ever received. Joanna’s vow not to let another man into her life after the loss of her husband five years before is put to the test by her boss who is determined to win her heart.

Joanna Spencer, widowed with a son, is living carefully, refusing to endanger her heart again. When she meets with an accident she makes Jon’s acquaintance. Not wanting to like this rakish and affable man, but still liking him, she vows to forget about him and concentrate on her job interview the next morning, except the forgetting part was not as easy as she had thought. When she walked into her interview the next morning, there he was.

Jonathan “Jon” Wellington Fulton the third has always said that he has no time for a family and he is married to his company. So he is completely surprised when he meets Joanna and her son Chase and he feels the desire to become part of the family. When she becomes his executive assistant, he has the opportunity to get to know her better. But there are others around them trying to pull them apart. Will Joanna be able to realize the truth before it’s too late?

Still Waters was a sweet and lovely story about learning to love again. I enjoyed Joanna and Jon very much. But the character I like the most was Chase, Joanna’s son. Filled with energy and ideas, Ms. Barrett has a depicted a precocious and likeable child. The storyline is fast paced and does not linger long in any parts. Ms. Barrett uses meaningful imagery to flush out her characters and tell her story. This was a wonderful novel and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a delightful and light read!
