As heir to an old and proud heritage, Aubrey Reynolds works and lives for his family, his employees and his pack. Agreeing to watch after a visiting werewolf is no big deal—until he discovers the newcomer is his mate. His very male mate…which is a very big deal, indeed. Revealing his sexuality was never part of Aubrey’s well-ordered life plan.

Much as he loved caring for his eight younger brothers, Matt Mahihkan knows it’s time to grab the opportunity to attend college in Atlanta. Realizing Aubrey is his mate should have been a delightful experience…except Aubrey treats him more like a dirty little secret than a lover. Yet Matt is a patient man. Aubrey can’t stay in the closet forever. Can he?

In time, they settle into a comfortable, if complicated, routine. Until a rogue werewolf with an axe to grind forces Aubrey to add to the wedge of secrets driving him and Matt apart, leaving Matt exposed to danger…and Aubrey forced to choose between love and duty.

J.L. Langley is one of my favorite authors and I just love the With or Without series. The way she writes makes you feel like you’re part of the story. She draws a good mental image of the characters and their lives. With Abandon is the fourth installment in this series and it’s an excellent addition.

If you have never read a book in the With or Without series here is a little background. This is a world of shape-shifting werewolves who live in our world undiscovered by humans. They live everyday life like the rest of us, they just get all furry once a month. Werewolves are given one mate, the one person they will love above all others. Being mated is an unbreakable connection between two people.

This story revolves around Matt Mahihkan and Aubrey Reynolds. These two men are defiantly what happens when opposites attract. Matt is loving and caring for others, it’s just part of his nature. Aubrey on the other hand is more about pleasing others and not letting down his family, company, or his pack.

Aubrey is running the family business and is alpha of his pack. He lives in fear of being discovered as gay, so he hides who he is. When Aubrey discovers Matt is his mate, he couldn’t be more pleased but knows that he will never be able to keep Matt. At first you want to hate Aubrey for the way he is with Matt. He convinces Matt to keep their relationship secret and, even though this makes Matt uncomfortable, he does it for Aubrey. When reading the story you eventually find out Aubrey’s reasons for this and you can understand his fears.

Matt is a very loveable character. More than anything he wants to find everlasting love. After watching his parents’ marriage slowly fall apart he’s hesitant at first with Aubrey but the pull he has toward the other man is just too strong for him to deny. Being in love with Aubrey out weighs any fears he has.

I absolutely loved this story. With a rollercoaster ride of emotions, this book does not disappoint. These two characters complement each other so well you can’t help but want them to be together. The love scenes between and Matt and Aubrey are beautifully written. You can tell these two men really love one another. Through all the drama these to suffer through they always realize love is the most important thing.

I would recommend this story and, though it will stand alone, I suggest checking out the all the stories. Ms. Langley has left several unresolved story lines between other characters in this story and I cannot wait for the next installment in this series.
