A fireman who leaves his life to chance, and a toy designer desperate to clear her name, heat up a small island off the coast of Maine before finding themselves wrapped up in a life or death mystery.

Tristan Devon has won the State of Maine Lottery and gets to live on Bear Island for a month all by himself. No woman, no more one night stands, it’s perfect for this firefighter until he discovers toy developer Erin Kimball just happens to be staying in the house too.

Although this is a plot I’ve seen many times, the characters were unique enough to make it a fresh read for me. I liked Erin and especially liked Tristan, who we learn has somewhat of a tragic past and is dealing with some guilt. The dialogue is good and you feel the attraction between these two people immediately. There are lots of fun verbal exchanges and the setting, being so remote, is fun too and somewhat seductive. Sex scenes are well placed and the author did a good job with packing a lot of story in this short read. Although lots of heroes in books are firefighters, Tristan isn’t your typical alpha male which made for a change of pace. I also like the idea that the author used toy developer as the career for the heroine and that she’s being sued over one of her products. I think it gave the plot a nice twist.

If you enjoy an island setting, a hot romance and have about an hour to spare, this is one for you.
