What begins as a sexy cyber affair quickly turns into the real thing when Lt. Finn Coleman shows up on Emma Shield’s doorstep to fulfill all her fantasies. When Emma doesn’t match the persona she presented online, he decides to seduce and discover the sensual woman who claimed she enjoyed spankings and bondage. But Finn is a career military man with a dangerous mission ahead.

All Emma wanted was to live out her hottest fantasies with her luscious new pen pal. She felt safe pretending to be a wicked seductress with Finn a world away. Then he shows up, bigger than life and making even her wildest dreams seem tame. All too soon, Emma realizes that more is at stake than her heart and losing Finn is not part of the plan.

Reading Operation: Spank Me is like drowning in sensual overload as a reader watches love unfold between two lonely people matched by fate and the internet.

Emma has quite a vivid imagination and an inner untapped wanton that, when allowed to express itself, ends up seducing a man half way across the world. The power of words has never been quite so explored as in this story and Ms. James left no binding untried and no sheet untwisted.

I’ve read historical anecdotes where people who started off as pen pals fall in love from their written words alone so this story isn’t as farfetched as some might believe. The thing about letters, true letters, is the ability for unvarnished truths and personality traits to be revealed without diffusion by sights, sounds or smells. Add to that the fact that letters can be re-read often to inspire hope, passion or even remembered grudges depending on what’s written and a reader has an idea how important a role the written word can have. Years ago, when the only option was snail mail, those missives where more open and eloquent and some people poured their hearts onto those pages. That’s what Emma and Finn did and the author put an erotic spin on it that is sure to please readers who are looking for that in depth sexual edge.

The interesting thing about Emma was her belief that all her fantasies would never come true and that she was safe from facing their reality because Finn was, after all, only a pen pal. And yet I got the impression from something the author added that had me believing that the process of falling in love had already started. That fact was vital for my enjoyment of the romance because when Finn showed up for real, fantasy got trumped by the amazing reality of the man called Finn.

Finn is a complex personality. He starts off as one hundred percent focused on his career and he expected to just scratch a very strong itch while on leave. During the course of the story a reader sees this determined and focused man who never let a woman near his heart never mind an overnight stay in his bed slowly morph into a man who’s realizing his heart has a mind of its own and it recognizes Emma as someone special. The man who first appeared on her front porch is not the same one who shows up again at the end of the story. Finn’s falling in love was entertaining to be sure.

Erotic romance readers will find a romance detailed in the loving arts of bondage. Throughout every hot encounter a sense of trust is earned and celebrated and it is through the physical act that I believe they further fell in love. There are moments in the story where they meet fully clothed in order to provide readers with glimpses of a more rounded life and community connection but on the whole, Ms. James’ strongest scenes were with the skin on skin explorations.

The editing was almost perfect but not quite, the dialogue fit well with the characters and the plot was definitely character driven with a conflict mostly internal in nature. I felt bad for the roses and adored the addition of Freckles but I would have loved for Emma to have met Finn’s grandfather.

Operation: Spank Me is a book sure to please and arouse readers who are in need of a really good dose of well written sensual exploration to spice up the romantic inside. If a reader is looking to get into the mood for some weekend fun with a significant other then this book is highly recommended to get the battery charged. There is some high voltage between the pages of this book and is worth checking out.
