This is my first book by Ally Blue and I have to say that if the other books are this good, my auto-buy list just got longer. The words simply flew from the page. I felt like I was right there with the characters and I kept thinking about them far after I turned the last page. This is a book where a character faces something lots of people can identify with–losing a job. There’s emotion and reality in each passage. I couldn’t stop reading.
I’m not sure which character I liked more. Matt is the ultimate optimist. It’s easy for the reader to see his side of the situation. Then there’s Chris. He’s a chef, a darned good one. His knack for cooking when he got emotional was so realistic and a neat way to blow off steam. There were times when, sure, I wanted to conk him on the head. But, honestly, I could identify with his situation. The depression and confusion are palpable.
Ally Blue does a bit more than just tell the story. The story is related in a way that I didn’t feel spoken down to or preached to. I felt like these were real guys going through a really rough time. I rooted for them all the way.
And did I mention the love scenes? Holy cow. My computer is still smoking with the singe marks. I didn’t feel like I was on the outside looking in with these scenes; rather, it was like I was right there going through the motions and emotions with both men. Well written.
