After enjoying Dear Sir, I’m Yours by author Joely Sue Burkhart, I was extremely excited to get my hands on the second installment, Hurt Me So Good. Although vastly different from the first, I found similar elements and themes present and, of course, the writing was wonderful.

However, once these things were clarified, I did enjoy many of the moments in which Shiloh and Victor play it up for the camera. There are also several secondary characters that are equally engaging, ensuring there is more than emotional and sexual tension between the protagonists to push things along. There were only a few small issues I had with the story, mainly revolving around character motivation and growth.
While I understood Victor’s fears and doubts regarding his sadist needs, each scene became more of the same. Will he hurt Shiloh if he releases that evil portion of himself within? Can he control himself? And adding to this was a continued guilt for being who he was at heart – a sadist. Fortunately, Shiloh’s character managed to offset this with her own turmoil as she realizes that unless Victor can let go of the past and give her the opportunity to stand against and submit to the darkness within, she will have to walk away from the man she has fallen in love with; for she is a true masochist and needs what only he can provide – if only he can get past his issues.
The writing, as I stated above, is fantastic. Ms. Burkhart pens memorable stories with tortured characters that are impossible to forget. I recommend Hurt Me So Good to BDSM enthusiasts who don’t necessarily want the heat (there is heat here, but not to the degree that many stories in this genre aspire to) but a story that takes them on an emotional journey.
