Dash Hyde is a former Chicago cop, scarred both inside and out. When he inherits a share in a Texas ranch, the last thing he expects is to meet a woman who can see past the scars to his very soul—even though she’s nearly blind.

Carmen Whitefeather loves taking care of wildlife, but the damaged man she finds on her doorstep with an injured eagle fascinates her even more. The spark between them is instant and overwhelming, and she’s determined to enjoy every second.

As Carmen and Dash explore the passion they find in each other’s arms, they both take the risk of getting burned. When an old enemy of Dash’s targets Carmen, Dash will have to face his deepest fears and walk into the flames to fight for the woman he loves.

Most men would be afraid of a woman whose grandfather has a big old shotgun. Luckily for Carmen, Dash was still willing to give a relationship a try.

Two broken individuals made one perfect couple. It had been a long time since either sought out the comfort of the opposite sex. Carmen was tired of men mistreating her due to her visual problems and Dash’s self esteem had taken a giant hit when he was shot and left for dead in a burning building — resulting in massive scar tissue all over his face and body as well as a troublesome leg. But when Carmen saw Dash she realized she was ready to get back on the horse and give courtship another chance even if she had to make the first move.

The way everyone seemed to accept one another in this story was miraculous. Not only did Carmen accept Dash, but so did his brother and sister. Although all three siblings did not respect or agree with their father or his views they put aside what an idiot their father had been and agreed to work together on the farm they inherited. Also, the town in general seemed to accept Dash with open arms. Even Carmen’s grandfather with the big ass shotgun liked Dash. Being from a big city I don’t get to see how quaint a small town can be which definitely left a warm fuzzy feeling inside my heart.

Because this was book two in the series and I had not previously read the first story I did feel as if I was missing something in the beginning. Not so much within Dash and Carmen’s relationship, but with the supporting cast. The first few pages are mainly about Dash’s family and the circumstances that brought them together which clearly took place in the first installment of this series. Once I got past that though the story fell right into place for me.

This story had some hot sex scenes, but for the most part I would consider it a very sweet story. The relationship development between Dash and Carmen really took precedence over sex. The characters found exactly what they needed from each other in this story and it showed. They both had physical disabilities and did everything in their power to not let their circumstances defeat them. Watching these two fall in love was a beautiful thing and I am just happy I was able to witness it.
