Jack antes up and goes after everything he wants, including Liza. But is he the only one playing for keeps?
Liza is looking for a good time, and a fresh start. She finds both in a small town. She doesn’t fit in, but the one person who doesn’t care is Jack, the man she meets on her first night there and makes a fool of herself in front of.
Liza is intriguing. A rule breaker. I liked her immediately. She’s the kind of person that doesn’t care what people think of her. She stands out, especially in Wilder, Texas. Liza brings color and fun into the gray, dull town. I love Jack; he definitely makes for a great hero. He’s always calling people darlin’ and I can just hear in my mind a Southern drawl that sends shivers down my spine. Sparks fly with Liza, and despite the protests of some people, he enjoys spending time in and out of bed with Liza.
The story could have used some more depth. While I enjoyed the light read, and the hot love scenes, I really didn’t learn a lot of Jack or Liza’s past, and what makes them the people they are today. There are bits and pieces trickled throughout the story about Liza, but not enough to satisfy my need of knowing the two better.
The secondary characters were fresh, engaging and humorous. The setting in Wilder was great. The feel of small town rumors and quirks is always amusing. Overall, I liked this book. If you enjoy a contemporary book with hot love scenes to warm you up on a cold winter day, then fall in love with Wilder, Texas and the characters that live there.
