When Hollywood electrician Todd Stewart is asked to help out on the hit show America’s Next Top Dancer, he’s thrilled at the chance to see his favorite competitor, Nathaniel Mayer, dance in person. While Todd loves watching the show, he’s always considered himself too big and clumsy to dance , but Nate is determined to teach Todd some moves—on and off the dance floor.

They say the tango is the dance of love…after reading Dancer and Sexy Big Man, I’d say the waltz has the tango beat by leaps and bounds.

I’ll admit right off that the blurb intrigued me. I’ve done my share of dancing and I’ve got friends who know a thing or two about moving around a stage. Nothing they’ve ever said sounded so delicate, beautiful, and engaging as the dance between Nate and Todd. Nothing.

I’m glad I picked up this book. The characters are complex and fun. The writing flows well and kept me reeled in wanting to know what would happen next. This story is told first person, from Todd’s point of view, so it was a little hard at times to know what was happening in Nate’s mind. And yet, it worked. Sure, there were a couple times I wanted to know what Nate was thinking. But seeing through Todd’s eyes and Todd’s emotions was pretty powerful. I think the thing I liked the best about the story was that both men aren’t perfect. They may come across as too good to be true on occasion—everyone does from time to time—but Todd’s clumsiness and Nate’s bout of shyness are realistic.

My only real complaint is I’d love for the story to be longer. I wanted to know more about both characters and would’ve loved to see some of the scenes played out with more detail. But being that this is a short story, I still felt the author did a fabulous job in the space allotted.

If you want a story that will make you smile, tear up a bit, and squirm in your seat, then you need to read Dancer and Sexy Big Man. You’ll love it, too.
