Damien loves every aspect of his life as a vampire, except feeding time. That’s when his conscience decides to turn on, and he must face his dark cravings—alone. He had it all under control until Nathan disappeared one night. Damien’s control is slipping on the beast inside, and he needs Nathan now more than ever. If only he didn’t suspect his lover of betrayal.

Two battles must be fought. One of the heart, and one of the soul. Will Damien’s fear become a reality, and the urge to kill blacken his heart before Nathan can bring him home?

Everyone has issues, even vampires. It’s how you deal with them that’s the clincher. Want to know more? Then read Blackened. You won’t be disappointed.

When I opened this book, I knew I was in for a paranormal ride and what a ride it is. Ms. Loren writes with passion that the reader can feel. I was swept up in the book and read it in one sitting, yearning for more. I’d met the characters in the previous book and loved them then. In this book, there is more of a couples’ argument feel. Even though they are vampires, it’s nice to see that supernaturals have issues like normal humans.

I couldn’t help but love Damien and Nathan. Yes, there were moments when I wanted to string the both of them up and conk them on the head. But who doesn’t have occasional issues with their friends? It’s life. Damien’s apprehension is something I could feel and identify with. He’s found this man who is all he could ever want, yet, he’s sure something’s hinky.

Although the trust issue is a little frustrating, I could understand Nathan’s point of view. He’s got issues and skeletons (shocked he’s got those, aren’t you?) in his closet that make his undead life hard. He wants to come clean, wants to be with Damien. My heart ached for the man. He’s so conflicted you can’t help but pity him.

I loved the ending, even if it was a bit quick. This story is all around fast paced, which makes it a breeze, but I wanted to see more. I’m hoping there’s more in store for Damien and Nathan. I can’t wait.

If you want a story that’s hot but has a lot of heart, then you need to read Blackened. I give this short story 4 cherries.
