The novella starts out promising, with our hero, Mitch, preparing to be presented to the adoring female crowd for charity. From the moment he smells the delectable and unique fragrance of the heroine, Tina, he knows he must have her. Although Tina is attracted to Mitch, she senses there is something different about the masked man she’s just purchased a night with and, as sparks fly, she soon discovers she wants more than one night in his arms. While I did enjoy certain aspects of Be My Vampire Tonight, there was a substantial amount of telling versus showing and repetitive word choice/dialogue. Compounding this is the fact that certain secrets are revealed and they seem to come out of nowhere, literally tossed onto the page without warning or any hints along the way. Although a paranormal romance, I felt that reading Be My Vampire Tonight required more of a suspension of belief than most stories in this genre. I truly think that more time spent on the influences and revelations that change things drastically for Mitch and Tina would have given more depth to the story, as well as to their motivations and feelings.
Those issues aside, Be My Vampire Tonight does offer some steamy scenes and a few unexpected twists and turns to keep you on your toes. This first novella in the series is written to foreshadow what you can expect in future, and I can say that if you like magic and shifters, you’ll definitely want to keep an eye out. You get a little of everything here, including a sexy vampire who isn’t all he seems, a heroine who has even more shocking surprises in store, and secondary characters that will have you curious about what happens next.
