Author Interview: Amber Skyze

Whipped Cream is pleased to welcome Amber Skyze whose latest book Pretend with Me has recently been released from Ellora’s Cave.

Pretend with Me is the first of Amber’s Freedom Fantasies series. I asked her to tell us a little about the book.

After threatening divorce, Paige gives up her fantasy of hot sex with two men, especially when Tommy, the other man she wants to have sex with, is the reason for her divorce threats. When Paige confesses she’s considering leaving Jed to her best friend and owner of Freedom Fantasies sex club, life takes an unexpected turn. Paige finds herself pretending she’s having a hot, sordid affair.

Paige appreciates all the pleasures she’s unable to find at home. Being spanked in the corner, tied to the bed or getting it on in the shower, Paige experiences more orgasms than she thought possible. To heighten the excitement, her pretend lover brings in a friend…
Amber told me she knows she’s written a good story if it turns her husband on. The key thing about erotica and erotic romance, that distinguishes it from pornography is the fact that the former have a story to tell—it’s not just sex. The fact that a lot of the public believe erotica is nothing more than porn or that it’s dirty drives Amber crazy.

“Seriously,” she told me, “everyone has sex; some just like to explore it more.”

One of the authors that she thinks writes excellent erotic fiction is Desiree Holt. “I’m always amazed when I read one of her books,” she said.

“How do you do your research for your books?” I wondered.

“I’m a hands-on…umm, researcher! Actually I just bought Kama Sutra 101 for the 20th Century Couple. Great research book.”

The best advice she could give authors who want to write erotica, though, doesn’t consist of what reference books to get. It’s simply to read.

“Especially the books from the publisher you want to write for,” she clarified. Avoidance of smoking cigarettes and alcohol consumption is highly recommended so as to provide timely and proper blending of the medicine. cialis online generic browse around content Other factors responsible for ED are poor libido, problems with ejaculation, obesity, numerous generic cialis usa djpaulkom.tv prescription drugs, recreational drugs, alcohol, smoking and tobacco use. Amber has always loved romance and, when she first started writing, she wrote Danielle Steele-type stories, but decided she didn’t like sex behind closed doors—plus she finds writing erotica more challenging.

“Straight romance can be so vanilla,” she explained. “With erotica you have to keep inventing new ways to have sex.”

“What does your family think about you writing erotica?” I wondered.

“My son doesn’t mind. My middle daughter can’t believe her mother could write that kind of ‘stuff’ and my youngest has no clue. And of course the DH just loves it!” she added with a smile.

Amber loves her life and, even if she could, wouldn’t choose to be anyone else. And, for good reason—when she’s not writing she can often be found on a float in her pool, playing catch with her three dogs, or spending time with her new grandbaby.

A few things you may not know about Amber:

~~She would choose whipped cream or caramel for eating off another’s tummy.

~~She’s a Pepsi girl

~~Her favorite food is buffalo wings.

~~Her least favorite food is liver. (“My mom used to cook it when I was growing up and the smell alone made me sick.”)

~~Her favorite letter is T. (“Don’t ask. I have no idea why.”)

And, finally, I asked her what advise she would give to a new writer just starting out.

“Submit, submit, submit. You won’t sell anything unless you get it in front of editor’s eyes. Believe in your dream and never give up.”
