Mariah has had to work hard for everything in life, and that includes her MBA in Accounting. She doesn’t have time for promiscuous sexy jocks with only one thing on their mind. She’d have to be content with daydreams about former football player Damien, whose nightly sexual conquests made the campus rumor mill. No one is more surprised than she, when Damien approaches her after class one day with a lust-filled agenda on his mind. Does Mariah have the right mix of bedroom moves to tame this player…forever?

He knows he wants her, needs her, craves her. Even if she is out of bounds. She’s not sure he could possibly be interested, but finding out might be the best possible solution.

Many times short stories are just that – short. Things happen quickly or feel like they are part of something larger. Not so much with A Player’s Agenda. Ambrielle Kirk puts a lot into just a few pages. Although I wanted to see more of the hustle and bustle of the college atmosphere, I did get the sense I was there on the campus with the characters. Speaking of characters, they are likeable and flawed, making them realistic. These are people you’d easily see on a college campus.

I have to admit, I wasn’t really enthused by Damien’s character at first. I got the sense he was the typical jock being led around by his … bits, taking what he wants and not really worrying about the repercussions. But — and this is a big point — he grew on me. I love when a character turns out to be more than I expected. Damien did. It was nice to see him show emotion and determination for something other than sex.

I liked Mariah. She’s sure of where she’s going in life and isn’t letting anyone stand in her way. I even respected the way she dealt with her past. What got to me was occasionally she slipped into a bit of a “pity me” attitude. So he’s white and she’s black. If he really cares, color isn’t important. But this is a realistic issue couples deal with, so it worked for the story and characters.

If you want a story with white hot love scenes and a great little moment in the classroom that had a whole lot to do with learning but nothing to do with academics, then you need to read A Player’s Agenda. I give it 3.5 cherries.
