This is a great story for those who love true romance, the Regency era in England, and time-travels.

She’s dead broke. And eviction looms. On Christmas Eve antique consultant Madison Knight takes a phone call from local rancher Zach Murdock. Through a mix-up at an estate sale, Madison’s company purchased his grandmother’s beloved painting. He offers double the money for its return.

Madison risks her job to track down the artwork, but success falls short when she’s stuck in a blizzard. Stranded, she seeks help from a frontier family. Are they living off the grid, or did she somehow travel through time?

Zach’s the only person who knows her plan. He also knows a secret about his gran’s painting. It’s up to him to rescue Madison, but maybe he’s not cut out to be a hero.

Zachary is working hard to track down a painting accidentally sold that his Gran is desperate to have returned. Finally finding the antique store that bought the item, he speaks with Madison and the two of them try to retrieve the painting. Only Madison discovers that the painting really is important – to herself as well as Zachary’s family.

I found this to be an interesting short story. While simple in some respects, I enjoyed many of the complications in the plotline, finding that it changed what could easily have been a regular time-travel story into a far richer tale. I was also really impressed that Zach’s grandmother wasn’t just a token character, we got to hear her side to the story as well.

Madison was quite a relatable character to my mind, broke and struggling to make ends meet. I sympathized with her confusion when she was unexpectedly tossed back over a hundred years in time and was impressed that she managed to not get herself run out of town as a witch or crazy woman. A part of me was a little disappointed that the short length of the story made the back-and-forth in time travelling feel a little rushed. I couldn’t help but think that the author maybe should have give a little more detail to this section of the book because upon initial reading it felt somewhat confusing and I really think having that part fleshed out a bit more would have made the story far richer to read. I was relieved that there was quite a decent length explanation toward the end, summarizing up the entire chain of events or else I might not have fully pieced the sequence together.

Readers looking for a strong romance might find the relationship between Zachary and Madison not quite as fulfilling as they hoped for. While the two are clearly destined to be together and enjoy a lovely happy ending – the bulk of the story is talking about how they come to be together. Aside from a few chaste kisses there is no physical intimacy between them and indeed the story finishes pretty much as soon as they connect and get together. A lovely story, I found this more geared towards readers who enjoy time-travel novels with only a slight dash of romance. Readers who enjoy the romance and relationship to be front and center might not find this story as appealing.

With a strong plot and plenty going on – I found this to be an interesting and complicated time-travel short story.

Will and Thomas lost their lover years before. They’ve been looking for a replacement, but can you really replace your love? Move on? Evolve? These two men have to figure that out.

I liked the three characters in this book. Will and Thomas are almost one entity because they are always together. I liked how they balanced each other out. I also liked their brooding vampireness. I’d love to see these two in real life.

Ruby is an interesting character, but I would’ve liked to have been able to visualize her more. I got the vulnerability Thomas and Will saw in her, but I wanted to see her better.

Still, the sex is hot and this is a great short story for a lunch break reading session. Don’t miss this short story.

An archeologist searches for a lost treasure in the Mayan jungle through many adventures, encountering a fascinating man from another time who teaches her to love again. She travels back in time to Palenque and the golden age of Mayas.

Imagine going back in time over a thousand years to a place filled with beauty and danger at every turn. Modern-day archaeologist, Sienna, does just that. She has lost her family and now finds herself, through an accident, back in time to the days of a great king of the Mayan people. This would certainly be a scary situation, but she meets a gorgeous warrior prince, Prince Balam. What makes this guy even more intriguing is that he is also a shaman and has a unique supernatural talent. This talent comes into play in the book, when Sienna finds herself in one of her many face-offs with death.

The two develop feelings for each other. The problem is, they each have a goal, and their goals clash with each other. Another issue arises: Prince Balam has been promised to another woman, and peace between cities may depend on him honoring his obligation. Despite these problems, and their developing love, the Prince Balam and Sienna keep their honor in check. Both are very likeable characters that readers can relate to.

Their deadly enemies present such obstacles that we get to see Prince Balam and Sienna at their best, facing such situations. Some enemies are obvious. However, others, not so much. There is a mystery here. The two suspect certain people of being against them, but are they? The author has done a good job surprising readers at different points. The plot moves along at a fast pace, making this a page-turner. The setting is exotic and therefore fun to read. Sometimes though, certain things are confusing. Does Sienna believe Prince Balam in the beginning or not? And there is some telling and not showing, which distances the reader a bit. However, this is not a common problem in the book. Near the end there was a drastic turnaround of events. I found myself wishing certain things were explained better because there was a bit of a jump. I did really enjoy the book though and was satisfied with the very ending. I recommend this to those who love time travels or exotic settings.

There, Reston servants and local villagers think him a dead ringer for his namesake and rakehell ancestor–the seventh Duke of Reston, gone missing at the Battle of Waterloo. Unfortunately, Seven got mixed up with French spies out to assassinate the Duke of Wellington, and an unwary Jared ends up in their crosshairs.

Lady Ariana Hart has loved Jared Langley, the seventh Duke of Reston, since she was twelve years old, until the night the rogue broke her heart. Given up for dead, her rakish neighbor makes a miraculous return from Waterloo–only Jared shows up a changed man and reignites all the feelings Ariana had long ago buried.

Jared is in a race against time. He must waylay the suspicions of his quirky servants and neighbors, get to Wellington before the French spies do, fix his fountain–before Seven shows up–so Jared has a way home, and definitely not fall in love with the irresistible Lady Ariana.

Duke Du Jour kicks off with a surprising scandal – one that we readers could scarcely expect…and this story is intriguing immediately. Kudos to the author for plunging in so creatively. I must confess; given the time period, the titled character, the very word ‘romance’ – I expected my initial thought to be ‘entirely predictable.’ Happily, this couldn’t be further from the truth.

Jared, third duke, is not getting his own way – right from the start. People and events transpire to affect him in ways he can scarcely imagine, but somehow, we believe. His meeting with Lady Ariana is both wonderful and awful, because we cannot see how this romance could ever actually work out. No spoilers here – McCarty enthralls us with this intriguing story line.

I’d call this a ‘mostly’ historical romance and suspect historical romance fans will find it enjoyable – don’t be put off by the time travel aspect. Definitely worth the read.

I found the beginning of the book confusing and had difficulty keeping my attention focused. The story hopped from character to character and none of them seemed to have any depth. I’m glad I kept reading though as half way through the book the story picked up. Until this point the reason for the monsters and what made them so terrible had not been clear.

Then the excitement built with each passing chapter, making me want to find out what was happening, and how it would be resolved. The conflict between good and evil evolved and the character strengths deepened with every wave of tension. Good joined ranks to fight against the impossible odds of the Rail Agency marshals and their bodyguard hunchbacks, but these are only the frontmen. To beat the monsters Nate and his companions must find who is behind the monster invasion..

A good conclusion to what eventually became a clever steampunk story.

Running from demons, Alexandra McMurdie stumbles into Forbidden Ground where up is down and elements of nature are contested. James, an honorable man who was left damaged by the Civil war makes a wonderful hero. His honor is indisputable, as shown the by the way he devotedly takes care of his young, orphaned niece, Jessie.

Alexandra is a sweet woman who is pursued through time by a villain who wants her for his own. She unexpectedly falls into a vortex when running from him in 2015 and finds herself in the past, just following the end of the war between the states.

The villain, Sean Cassidy, is truly reprehensible. And single minded. All he wants is Alexandra, and he doesn’t care what he has to do to get her.

I enjoyed watching Alex trying to find her way around the past. It’s remarkable how many little slang sayings make no sense out of context, like when she wants to keep James from the treehouse where she and Jessie are talking, and gives as her reason that “it’s Grand Central Station” up there. Of course, the way women behave now and how they were expected to behave in the late 1800s was also an issue. Ms. Young does a good job painting the past through Alex’s eyes.

The romance between James and Alex is bittersweet, since Alex intends on returning to her own time. But neither can help falling for the other and it’s sweet and heartbreaking and helps both James and Jessie to heal from their emotional wounds.

The only “complaint” I had with the story is that James is so good and Sean Cassidy is so bad. I wish James had been more flawed and that the villain had a few redeemable qualities. Oh, and the other thing that made me a bit crazy is how the author seldom referred to him as simply “Sean” and mostly called him by his full name, Sean Cassidy. Not only did it feel a bit odd, but every time it happened I ended up picturing him as the teen idol from my youth.

Overall, though, Straight To Heaven was a well-written, interesting book that should appeal the time travel romance fans. And it should certainly touch your heart. It did mine.

I think it’s called the “butterfly affect” when one decision, a yes or a no, can change the course of history for better or for worse. No one knows with a 100% certainty what the ripple effects will be. This book, Ian and Deanna’s story, explores the “what if’s” and challenges the notion that changing the past is a detriment to the future.

Not to say that Deanna slipping into the past didn’t cause heartache that wasn’t there previously, it did and I have to wonder about the effects on one particular characters timeline, his ancestry, by her choices. So many paths, so many possibilities and it all goes back to free will of choice.

I love the idea of soul mates. Two souls that know each other at first sight, who gravitate to each other and if there was such a thing as recycling of souls, they find each other again and again. That’s the epitome of romantic.

Ian and Deanna are both well drawn out characters. Deanna was an interesting character in the present but I was very drawn to her, to see if she had the strength to make the hard choices, when Ian realizes who she is to him. The story moves quickly and covers a whole lot of space and time. I quickly became vested in knowing how the author would bring them together and allow them to remain together knowing that at some point Ian became an Immortal while Deanna was all too human.

The story moves back and forth from present day to the past but it’s clearly defined. I especially loved the places where Ian begins to have new memories of his past based on what happened once Deanna landed in 16th century Scotland. There were some humorous moments when he wants to kick his own (younger) tail for being so stubborn.

It all works out to a very satisfying HEA for Ian and Deanna but I still have so many questions. Especially about Robert and the mysterious Mylia. There’s a lot of highland mysticism in this book that I wasn’t familiar with as well as world building between the Guardians and the Conri. I don’t have those two factions figured out exactly so, I look forward to the next book to shed more light.

This is the first book in the Well of Souls series. It’s a good start and good hook without being a true cliffhanger. Readers who enjoy a good time travel romance with a touch of the highlands, should definitely give this one a try.

To be honest, I’m not much of a fan of time traveling novels, but Pyramids of Passion is something totally different. To begin with, it’s very well written. Ms. Lovett drew me into her story and kept me there with her vivid descriptions.

Even though there is a hot romance (or is that two?), at times I felt that the story was more about the main character herself, Rosie Carter, and her evolution as a woman, than a love tale. Furthermore, at one point in the novel, I couldn’t help wonder why Rosie didn’t research Edifu’s past and cast her doubts aside. However, with that said, Rosie is an endearing character and I was rooting for her from the start.

Her male counterparts are equally engaging. They’re not only attractive, or mannequins to serve a purpose. They felt like real people.

Pyramids of Passion is a hot, sensual read with a happy for now ending. I will certainly be looking for future stories from Ms. Lovett.
