Dominic was staring at me like he couldn’t decide whether to chop me into pieces or pull my hair and French kiss me.

Dominic
I got her fired. Okay, so I’d had a bad day and took it out on a bystander in a pizza shop. But there’s nothing innocent about Ally Morales. She proves that her first day of her new job… in my office… after being hired by my mother.

So maybe her colorful, annoying, inexplicably alluring personality brightens up the magazine’s offices that have felt like a prison for the past year. Maybe I like that she argues with me in front of the editorial staff. And maybe my after-hours fantasies are haunted by those brown eyes and that sharp tongue.

But that doesn’t mean that I’m going to be the next Russo man to take advantage of his position. I might be a second-generation asshole, but I am not my father.

Then I can go back to salvaging the family name and forget all about the dancing, beer-slinging brunette.

Ally
Ha. Hold my beer, Grumpy Grump Face.

Dominic’s world is about to be shaken to the core when Grumpy Grump Face meets the sexiest piece of sass this side of Jersey. I was #TeamAlly from the first scene they share. She may be desperate to earn the money she needs to keep her life afloat but that doesn’t mean she’ll take his brand of bossy snobbishness. Honestly, I was laughing out loud so much with this book.

I was really intrigued with how similar Ally and Dom’s backgrounds were. Not that they had the same childhood, just that their childhood made such an impact on their adulthood. For Dom, it’s his relationship with his father. For Ally, it’s the lack of relationship with her mother. But more than that, I came to realize that it was the positive impressions made by their other parents that end up shining through.

Another plus for this reader, Dom and Ally aren’t just out of college kids just getting started in the world. They’re Gen X! I could totally relate to them on so many levels but the strained muscles after ‘strenuous exercise’ had laughing out loud for real.

While this is a romantic comedy, there are a couple of really not funny themes that are dealt with within the pages and handled very well. One steals our loved ones away while they still live and other creates such a gross disadvantaged work society that an entire modern movement was developed to combat it’s effects. Again, I thought Ms. Score handled both with dignity and honesty.

I’ve been a Lucy Score fan for a while and stalk her author page religiously for hints of new stories. This one in particular was fun to watch develop and I still wasn’t prepared for how much I fell in love with the characters until I read it. They click. As in the chemistry is so palpable, it jumped off the page with both sparks and smoke.

A great couple needs fantastic friends and side characters but also a villain. So I wouldn’t say this story has a true black hat bad guy. Don’t get me wrong, Dom’s dad deserves to chemically castrated but other than a single scene he’s mostly a background threat. It was enough tho. I instantly disliked him for how he treated Dom and his mother as much as I disliked him for how he treated others.

It’s always a good day when a favorite author releases a new story. Fans of Lucy Score as well as fans of really good story telling need this book.

“I tried to think of something—anything—to calm my raging hard-on. One wrong move and Leah Mae would rub up against it and that was liable to kill me dead on the spot.” — Jameson Bodine

Model turned disgraced reality TV starlet, Leah Mae Larkin, crash lands in her hometown of Bootleg Springs to lay low while a scandal threatens her career. She can’t shake the feeling that her agent—and supposed fiancé—manipulated her into the role of made-for-TV homewrecker. Connecting with her roots is just what she needs, and Bootleg Springs is home to her father, moonshine, and her childhood best friend, Jameson Bodine.

Only there’s nothing childlike about Jameson—a man who turns scrap metal into art and isn’t afraid to throw down on a rowdy Friday night with his brothers and hellcat sister. He might not say much, but still waters run deep. Seeing the ring on his crush’s finger? He doesn’t like it, but he can’t wish it away. No more than he can wish away the trouble his family is in, with evidence pointing to his late father in the cold case disappearance of Callie Kendall.

Jameson and Leah Mae are just two friends reliving their summers together, blowing off steam, and having fun for the first time in a long time. But Leah Mae is realizing what’s really important in her life, and it isn’t what she thought.

And sometimes steam turns into sparks—hot as molten steel—and friends aren’t just friends.

When the ‘friend-zone’ line blurs, it can’t always be blamed on the world famous moonshine no matter how strong. Love is in the air in Bootleg Springs.

Still waters run deep indeed. Jameson Bodine had resigned himself to loving his childhood best friend from a distance. That distance being on the other side of the country from the West Virginia they both once called home. But then Leah Larkin comes for a visit. Game changer.

Jameson is such a sweetheart. Quiet, super talented artist and a gentleman to boot. Quite the devastatingly hormone wrecking combination. Leah didn’t stand a chance.

I liked how the authors showed her as having changed when she left Bootleg Springs but that the call to come home was strong. To coin a phrase “You can take the girl out of Bootleg but you can’t take Bootleg out of the girl”. Hollywood and self serving boyfriend try read hard. Man I didn’t like that guy!

Another awesome visit to the mountains of W Virginia. I enjoyed how the writing takes me right into the center of the community. I can feel the summer heat, smell the mountain air, taste down home cooking. That’s good writing.

I’d like to say the mystery is starting to unravel but really, it’s just getting started. Details come out. I have my own suspicion but I’ll wait to see how it plays out. I love the romance of these books but I’m a sucker for a good ‘who-done-it’.

Next in line to be bit by the love bug is Cassidy and Bowie and it’s about time these two make a move. The first two books really build the tension likes it’s foreplay. I can’t wait to see what sets off the spark that finally ignites them. Love this series!

Devlin just wants to lick his wounds. But Scarlett has other ideas for his tongue… and the rest of him. She’s determined to bring him back to life, even if getting him back on his feet means never seeing him again. But when an old mystery becomes new news, she’ll need his help to survive the scandal.

Devlin has been sentenced to temporary exile into the small town of Bootleg Springs in rural West Virginia. His punishment for a very public display of anger against the man his soon to be ex-wife thought would get her up the social ladder a little quicker. After meeting his ex, that was a blessing in disguise. She’s just awful!

Devlin believes Bootleg Springs will be quiet. Serene even. He can think and plan in the comfort of his grandmother’s home until it’s safe to return to the capital. Or so he thought. Quite and serene are not two words that will ever be used to describe his neighbor, Scarlett Bodine. I loved her and her brothers on site!

I couldn’t imagine a more fun place to visit in the Lucy Score universe than Benevolence, CO. Little did I know, just a few states over was a town that would rock my reader world right along with Devlin. Bootleg Springs, with it’s pride in moonshine and unsolved mystery, was just waiting to be discovered. With six books already available to absorb, I’m so very glad I did.

Scarlett is just the best. She’s real and unapologetic in her enthusiasm for finding the fun in life. It’s clear early on that Devlin needed Scarlett to mess up his all too planned out existence. And boy does she ever!

I loved their chemistry! It’s off the pages hot and sweet at the same time. There’s so much going on in this first book in the series. The authors did a fantastic job of building the unsolved mystery with clues that not only kept me wondering about what would be revealed in this book but clearly what will be sprinkled in throughout the rest of the series.

Something the authors did that I don’t see often was in the epilogue. The give the reader a glance at the future that includes the completed stories of the future couples that are featured in the rest of the series. Not exactly spoilers because, somebody, not me, might decide not to read the next books. Just a feeling of completion for not only Devlin and Scarlett but that the town as well as the rest of her family will survive what is revealed.

I’ll be returning to Bootleg Springs real soon. Readers who love a good rom-com and a mystery to boot, should join me. Be warned that you might not want to leave. The story and the people will draw you in and make you feel like family.

If you can’t stand the heat, don’t fall for a firefighter…

Fire Chief Lincoln Reed is known for his heroics in the fire department and in the bedroom. Life is a never-ending good time. Until she lands in the middle of the accident scene he’s working…and then his backyard. Too bad she’s immune to flirty first responders.

Flight trauma surgeon Mackenzie O’Neil is on a crash course with burnout. She’s got a scar on her face and a shake in her hands. A temporary job as a small-town family physician is just the prescription. She’ll learn to meditate. Sleep more. Take up gardening.

It may also lead to thoughts of get free viagra suicide and create a lot of other problems. She definitely won’t take her shirtless, firefighting neighbor’s hot body for a test drive.

But Linc and his tattoos are very persuasive. What’s a harmless little adrenaline-fueled fling between neighbors? It’s all naked fun and games until the shadows from Mack’s past find their way into her present. Can Linc be her hero when she needs him the most or will their scars ruin everything?

One thing is certain: Someone is going to get burned.

Ladies man Linc has finally met a woman who had him speechless at first sight. I fell in love with Mack, or Doc Dreamy to some, when she saved Aldo’s life five years ago. The fact that she’s the new family physician in Benevolence guaranteed that Linc’s life was about to get just a little more interesting.

There’s not much better for an avid reader than finding a fictional town to fall in love with and then getting to go back to visit. Benevolence is one of those towns for me. The people are small town quirky and close. Life isn’t post card perfect but it feels real. The way Ms. Score writes gives life to the place that makes coming back feel like a coming home.

Book 3 in the Small Town Love Story series happens five years after both of the first two. I’m actually glad she time jumped a bit because Linc needed to develop personally and professionally and Mack needed to be ready for a change. Speaking of Linc’s personal development, wait until you see him with his nieces and nephews. If didn’t already love him, you will!

I thought Luke and Harper was the best couple. Very swoon worthy. And then I met Aldo and Gloria. So many ‘awww’ moments, I couldn’t help but love them and decide they were my new favorite. Along come Linc and Mack. I was only a fourth of the way through book and could tell they were going to steal ‘fan favorite’ right out from under all the others. Too cute and so much sexy, flirty fun!

Maybe one of the reasons I love this series so much is that Ms. Score has an element of kids in foster care and forever homes in each story. We live in a community where there is a large community of foster families. It touches our lives and these books celebrated loving kids who just want to loved in a beautiful way.

I couldn’t put this 400+ page book down until I’d read the last page. Ms. Score drew me in, made me feel like part of the community and the amazing families who live here. I don’t know here future plans for Benevolence but I hope there’s more life and love to come.

If he doesn’t end up naked and spread eagle on my bed I. Will. Die.

Gloria is due a happily ever after. She’s lost ten years to a toxic, dangerous relationship. Now that she’s finally free—and medicating with makeovers and margaritas in her mother’s kitchen—she has a long road ahead of her remembering who she really is. She’s scarred. But scarred doesn’t mean broken.

While Gloria’s deciding to take the next decade off from men, along comes larger-than-life, hometown hero Aldo Moretta. He’s saying all the right things and flirting in all the right ways. He’s deploying for six months and wants a date…with Gloria…when he comes back. Swoon. Panic.

One kiss, one dazzling, remember-for-a-lifetime kiss and he’s gone. But life and happily ever afters don’t always take the straight path. When Aldo’s deployment is cut short by an injury, it’s up to Gloria to be the hero for them both.

Who was she outside of the abusive relationship that was all she had known for so long? I knew from reading the first chapter that I wouldn’t put this book down before seeing Gloria Parker feel and see her real worth. Even beyond Gloria, Aldo had a story to tell as well and it was going to be gut wrenching in the best way possible because I already knew this book had a HEA if they were willing to fight.

Dr. Dunnigan says it best at the end of the second chapter.”Today you’re not a victim. Today you’re a survivor”.

This was a tough story to read. Not because I’ve personally been in an abusive relationship or dealt with PTSD first hand but because Ms. Score is so very talented in bringing the reader right into the room. Feeling what the character is feeling. I would warn anyone who has suffered from domestic abuse or a loved one walking the dark path of any form of PTSD, this book could be triggering. I want to say also that it could be good for someone who’s in or been in that situation, help them draw strength from both Gloria and Aldo’s stories.

If the demons that Gloria would have to battle wasn’t enough, I remembered a very important story arch from the first book in this series. Aldo Moretta coming home from Afghanistan. He wasn’t the same happy go lucky young man who left. He would never be the same. They would be both have such steep uphill battles but I was right there with them, cheering them on and cheering them towards each other. This was a deeply emotional story that I’m so glad I read.

It’s been a few years since I read the first Small Town Love Story book, Luke and Harper’s story. A few chapters into this one I realized that the stories are happening simultaneously. That worked well for me because it took me back and allowed me to remember how much I enjoyed that first trip to the town of Benevolence. This trip was going to be every bit as memorable.

I won’t even lie. The scenes with Aldo after “the incident” had me in the feels and bit breathless. Keep reading. It’s so very worth it! The book isn’t all tissues and sniffles. I LOVED Aldo’s mother and Gloria’s mother and who doesn’t love Harper and Sophie? I was smiling and even laughing out loud in parts that most often involved conversations between Aldo and his mother. Then Gloria, the new and improved Gloria, started showing some real spunk and she was fun to watch, too. I could ruin this story by talking about it but, last thing, when Aldo gets over himself or maybe back to himself, he’s a force to be reckoned with for sure!

This is one of my favorite series from one of my favorite story tellers. Finally Mine was an excellent addition and I can’t wait to read Linc’s book. Here’s hoping Ms. Score takes us back to Benevolence time and again!
