This summer I indulged in one of my favorite past times. As a foodie, I love watching TV cooking shows and trying out new recipes, and there’s nothing I love more than sampling local delicacies while traveling. In the heat of the summer, one wouldn’t normally crave a doughnut. But if you happen to be in New York City and the early morning air is a comfortable 70 degrees, there’s no better place to indulge in a mouth-watering doughnut than Doughnut Plant in the Lower East Side. On a recent jaunt there, my daughter and I took two subway trains to arrive early since we heard there was usually a line wrapped around the bakery.

Filled with anticipation and visions of succulent doughnuts, we entered the small, nondescript bakery and weren’t disappointed. One glance at the freshly made doughnuts cooling on racks almost made us swoon with delight. Talk about a difficult decision! Rows and rows of plump yeast and cake doughnuts slathered in colorful glazes made from fresh seasonal fruits such as mango and peach and roasted nuts were too tempting. We finally ordered two doughnuts, their signature Crème Brulee and the Valrhona chocolate glazed doughnut.

I can’t decide which one I loved more. The Crème Brulee was a masterpiece of fluffy, yeasty doughnut with crunchy, bruleed sugar on top and filled with rich custard. The Valrhona Chocolate was a tasty pouf of sweet vanilla bean dough covered in decadently rich Valrhona chocolate. We shared each doughnut, oohing and awing over every memorable bite as we munched on them between sips of Kobrick’s coffee, locally roasted to perfection. Happily replete with our foodie find, we headed back for a brisk stroll in Central Park.

Writing about food is as fun as sampling it. My summer Samhain release, Grill Me, Baby is a romantic comedy about two hot chefs battling for top spot in a TV cooking show. Grill Me, Baby has been hailed as “a succulent romantic treat”. Read an excerpt on my website at: http://sophiaknightly.webs.com/grillmebabyexcerpt.htm

The heat is on…

Raised among women who taught him to cook at his family’s Buenos Aires restaurant, master chef Paolo Santos deftly works his culinary wiles—and his gypsy charm—on posh Flamingo Island’s female clientele.

The tastiest tidbit on the island, though, is cool, elegant Michaela Willoughby. The redhead’s slender curves are as enticing as her rabbit-food menus are maddening. And she’s his main competition for the chance of a lifetime.

Michaela overcame her own weight issues to become Flamingo Island’s premiere spa chef. Now she has a chance to share her innovative recipes for healthy living on a new cooking show—if she can somehow outshine Paolo. His sizzling, Latin-lover looks are more heart stopping than his decadent cooking. And she’d love nothing better than to stick a fork in his outsized ego.

When the stage lights ignite, so does the competition…and a sexual chemistry no one—least of all Paolo and Michaela—saw coming. Suddenly, separating business from pleasure is as impossible as separating a scrambled egg. And the big question isn’t whose knife cuts fastest…it’s whose heart can take the most heat.

Warning: Contains two hot chefs duking it out in a lively showdown of sexy rivalry. Mix in family drama, luscious recipes and spicy mischief, and there’s more than just steam rising out of the kitchen. May cause lusty cravings for midnight indulgences.

Stuff Your Stocking Blogfest: Sophia Knightly

Hi, I’m Sophia Knightly. I wrote SOLD ON YOU, a romantic comedy set during Christmas, because it’s my favorite holiday. Today, I’ll choose a random guest to receive a FREE ebook copy of SOLD ON YOU. To be eligible, please post a comment about what you look forward to most during the holidays.

I’ll start the ball rolling…I most look forward to spending time with my family, cooking, laughing and eating homemade delicious treats. When my daughters are home for Christmas, we bake cookies and make Italian rum balls together as we watch classic movies on TCM — one of our favorites is “Meet Me In ST. Louis”. On Christmas Eve, we make homemade gnocchi and braciole. Our version of Italian braciole is made with a butterflied pork tenderloin that is filled with garlic, parsly, grated cheese, pine nuts and golden raisins and rolled up. It is then simmered in a tomato sauce until it is very tender. Mmm, delicious!

What do you most look forward to during the holidays? Post here for all to enjoy!
