The interaction between Max and Bennett is hot, but it’s also sweet. I felt the longing and pull between them, even when Max wasn’t ready to admit his feelings.

I’m looking forward to more books in this series and to going back and reading the others before it.

This is the second in Holly Bush’s The Gentrys of Paradise series (book one is the story of the parents that begin the Paradise dynasty), but can certainly be read as a standalone. I’ve already downloaded the first book on my Nook and hope it’s as good as this one.

Although other reviewers at Long and Short Reviews have read and enjoyed Ms. Bush’s work, this is the first time I’ve had the chance to read her– and it definitely won’t be the last. She has a wonderful way of letting you really get to know the characters. Matt and Annie are not perfect, but they are perfect for each other. I have to admit that one of my very favorite people in the book was Ben…I loved him and hope he’s in the first book as well!! The other secondary characters are all well-drawn as well (with the possible exception of the villain of the piece…I found no redeeming features in him whatsoever).

The pacing was spot on.. the book never dragged and during the flooded riverbed scene, I was completely gripped, hoping Matt and Ben would make it through! Also, when Annie is alone at her house… great job ramping up the tension there as well.

I love a tortured hero; Matt and Annie both have their demons to fight and I love how they realize they don’t have to fight them alone. Kudos, Ms. Bush.

I absolutely love the main characters, Rona and Johnny, and their banter back and forth makes me smile. Ms. McAlan does a wonderful job of creating three dimensional characters – not only the main ones, but the people in the town as well.

The mystery itself was well played out, with great clues and action. I love codes and cyphers, so this particular book was right up my alley. I also loved all the historical references in the book. I’m looking forward to book three! Thanks, Ms. McAlan! 4 stars.

James, an honorable man who was left damaged by the Civil war makes a wonderful hero. His honor is indisputable, as shown the by the way he devotedly takes care of his young, orphaned niece, Jessie.

Alexandra is a sweet woman who is pursued through time by a villain who wants her for his own. She unexpectedly falls into a vortex when running from him in 2015 and finds herself in the past, just following the end of the war between the states.

The villain, Sean Cassidy, is truly reprehensible. And single minded. All he wants is Alexandra, and he doesn’t care what he has to do to get her.

I enjoyed watching Alex trying to find her way around the past. It’s remarkable how many little slang sayings make no sense out of context, like when she wants to keep James from the treehouse where she and Jessie are talking, and gives as her reason that “it’s Grand Central Station” up there. Of course, the way women behave now and how they were expected to behave in the late 1800s was also an issue. Ms. Young does a good job painting the past through Alex’s eyes.

The romance between James and Alex is bittersweet, since Alex intends on returning to her own time. But neither can help falling for the other and it’s sweet and heartbreaking and helps both James and Jessie to heal from their emotional wounds.

The only “complaint” I had with the story is that James is so good and Sean Cassidy is so bad. I wish James had been more flawed and that the villain had a few redeemable qualities. Oh, and the other thing that made me a bit crazy is how the author seldom referred to him as simply “Sean” and mostly called him by his full name, Sean Cassidy. Not only did it feel a bit odd, but every time it happened I ended up picturing him as the teen idol from my youth.

Overall, though, Straight To Heaven was a well-written, interesting book that should appeal the time travel romance fans. And it should certainly touch your heart. It did mine.

Although the dialogue is, of course, fictional, it is obvious that the author did his homework and studied diaries and letters to get a sense of what the men were thinking and what they truly might have said.

This is not a pretty book, but then war isn’t pretty. For anyone who is interested in Civil War history, this is definitely a book to check out. It gives the reader a real sense of what is going on.

The battle descriptions show a great deal of research as well– but for this reader, those were not the primary draw of the book. The author made the characters come alive and become more than just names in the history book.

This is truly a sexy erotic short story with a wonderful storyline. Sure, I cringed a bit when Lauren decided to act upon her feelings even though she wore another man’s ring. But it was all the hints the author dropped that drew a clear picture for me so I could understand what was really going on and I was able to get past that issue.

The author presented me a heroine who had never loved, or truly been in love. When all these feelings started buzzing in her brain and sensations overwhelmed her senses, Lauren had an epiphany. She was a rare flower that was about to bloom for the first time, like a Chocolate Cosmos – sweet, special and beautiful. The man who coaxed her to spread her emotional wings was Steve, a widower who lost the woman he loved.

What I appreciated about the hero is that he wasn’t a martyr to his late wife. Some books make that the conflict and it’s torment. Ms. Brooks didn’t do that. Instead, this story picks up when Steve is ready to start living again. What I found amusing is that no one in town realized the hero was at that point in his life so they considered him ‘safe’. Wow, were they wrong! It was that assumption that put Lauren in Steve’s crosshairs and I enjoyed how they both discovered the truth about each other.

As is true with most of Ms. Brook’s writing, her sense of humor is cheeky, funny and at times quite clever. However, it’s toned down for this story so it complimented the personalities of the two main characters. I even enjoyed the scenes with the dog. It gave further insight into just how right the two were for each other.

The author wastes no time in getting her characters skin to skin, and even there, she put in a few giggles. It’s what made reading this story so fun. Lauren found out it’s okay to laugh during sex; that it wasn’t all ‘serious business’, and proper procedure. Nor was it all one sided. I enjoyed watching the heroine grow and change and realize who she really was, and what she really wanted. Sex with Steve played a huge role in that which is why I like this story so much. The sex had meaning; it brought joy, fun and a new beginning. It’s powerful stuff, and although it’s scorching hot and very detailed at times, the bottom line is that it’s during their lovemaking that the romance blossoms to something real and worth pursuing. It’s well done.

I also got the biggest chuckle right at the end with the zinger the author revealed. That, was a stroke of pure genius. If I could, I’d give Steve a high five.

Cowboy Delight is pure entertainment and well worth a hearty recommend. I liked Lauren and Steve and I think their happy ever after is going to be wonderful. I’m so happy I read this book. It’s a treat.

The one character I had trouble liking 100% was Cruz Morales. And, I’m not sure how much of it was the way the character was drawn or because I kept picturing Cruz Castillo from the old soap opera Santa Barbara and having issues reconciling this character’s behavior with that character. I had trouble seeing what Molly saw in him. Perhaps if I had read the novella that was a prequel to this, I would have understood that better. By the end of the book, however, he had grown on me and I was rooting for him and Molly.

I will definitely be searching out the rest of Ms. Gamble’s works.

In the kingdom they live in, this is definitely a problem. Their only chance of survival comes from getting to another kingdom–one that is more tolerant of the Auras than their own. But, that’s easier said than done.

Mr. Sullivan has created a wonderful world and I’m very much looking forward to his next book in this series. And, like I said, I certainly hope I get more opportunities to see the characters in this book. I was sorry to put the book down once I was finished.
