Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Wish I Could Read Again for the First Time

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday!  This week’s topic is Books I Wish I Could Read Again for the First Time.  When I read the topic, my mind immediately jumped to my favorite books.  Though there is something to be said for giving books a second chance, most generally I don’t want to read books again that I didn’t enjoy the first time around.  Let’s get to the list!

Moon Called by Patricia Briggs-I know. I know.  I’ve mentioned this series a lot, but it is so good!  I fell in love with it right from the start and would love to go back and fall in love with it again.

Beauty by Robin McKinely-Again, I know I’ve mentioned this book many times, but it is a cherished favorite.  It would be wonderful to go back and experience it again.

Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice-The very first vampire book I ever read!  I’d love to discover vampires again.

Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien-I read the first book in the series in school and absolutely had to get the rest of the books afterward.  It would be great to discover Middle Earth all over again!

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins-I was hesitant to read this one as I’m not a dystopian fan, but I had a very good friend recommend it.  Once I started reading, I devoured this series!  I couldn’t read fast enough.  I’d love to feel that intensity again.

Blossoming colorful flower with wavy gentle petals and pleasant aroma between aged textbook pages on blurred background

Discount Prices by C.S. Feldman-I picked this up not knowing what to expect, and I loved it!  I’d like to experience that pleasant surprise again.

Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder-I read this in elementary school, and my teacher made it so much fun!  It was when I fell in love with historical fiction.

Undead and Unwed by Mary Janice Davidson-While I quit reading this series, I truly loved the first several books.  I read it with a friend and we shared a lot of laughs over it!  That would be fun to experience again.

My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows-Another book that I’d love to laugh over for the first time!  It is by far my favorite in the Lady Janie series.

Charlie the Ranch Dog by Ree Drummond-My kids loved this book when they were younger!  I’d love to experience the first time we all sat on the couch giggling as I read again.

Have you read any of these?  Would you like to experience them for the first time?  What other books would you like to read again for the first time?

  1. I’d also love read The Hunger Games again for the first time. The Patricia Briggs series is on my TBR so I’m lucky that I can still really read it for the first time 🙂

  6. The Hunger Games is a great choice!

  7. I agree so much about Middle Earth. I would love to rediscover all the wonder of that series- and the wonderful setting- for the first time!

Little House in the Big Woods…what a blast from the past. I loved that whole series and read it multiple times.

  9. It occurs to me that I’ve never read the Little House books, even though the show was a big deal for my family when I was younger. I think it’s time to remedy that.

  10. Beauty by Robin McKinley is one of my favorite retelling – I have read it several times.

I have not read the others. Like you, I don’t reread books I don’t like from the first read but now and then, I do give a book another chance but that’s rare.

Thanks for dropping by my blog. Have a lovely day.

  11. I need to read My Lady Jane and LoTR!

  12. My Lady Jane is such a fun book! I really need to read the rest of the series.

    • Poinsettia says

It is so much fun! I’ve read the other books in the Janie series, but My Lady Jane is my favorite of the bunch. I’ve not read My Contrary Mary yet, but it is on my tbr.

Thanks so much for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  13. I wish I’d read LotR for the first time when I was a bit older. It was super heavy going when I first tried to read it and I gave up. After the movies came out I did go back and re-read the books but that experience of it being new was no longer there.

    • Poinsettia says

Oh, that sounds so sad! I’m sorry it wasn’t a good experience for you.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. 🙂

  14. Great list! I’ve enjoyed the Undead and Unwed series by MaryJanice Davidson. I know I haven’t read them all, but I have enjoyed the ones I have read.

When you get the chance, I hope you stop over at my blog and take a read: https://readbakecreate.com/10-books-i-would-love-to-see-as-a-movie/

    • Poinsettia says

I really enjoyed the Undead series in the beginning, but it lost its luster for me after a while.

Thanks so much for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  15. Lord of the Rings is a good one! I hadn’t even thought of it. I still need to read the Lady Janies series for the first time. xD

  16. I’ve always wanted to read Undead and Unwed but haven’t gotten to it yet!

  17. Great list! While reading your list, I realized that The Witching Hour by Anne Rice definitely could have made it onto my list for this week. And I’ve definitely seen Moon Called in a bunch of places – maybe it’s time to get around to read it.

    • Poinsettia says

I highly recommend the Mercy Thompson series! It is consistently good and there are 12 books in the series! I haven’t gotten tired of it yet. Let me know what you think when you get a chance to check it out.

Thank you for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  18. I have added My Lady Jane to my TBR only yesterday and now I can’t wait to start reading it! Seems like such a fun book for sure.

  19. Donna @Momsbookcollection says

I would also reread the hunger games! such a good book.

  20. You’ve got some great titles there, I hope you get to read many of them again.

Thanks for visiting my TTT earlier.

    • Poinsettia says

      You’re welcome!

I’ve read a few of them multiple times, but I wish I could recapture that first time feeling!

Thanks for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  21. I totally agree on Moon Called selection! I love Briggs’ work (it turned me into an Urban Fantasy fan for all time). I read that series from time to time, but that first read had a special magical flavor. And as for Hunger Games, the movie always gets to me, no matter how the book would fare on a second read.

    • Poinsettia says

The Mercy Thompson series is wonderful! I just read the most recent installment and can’t wait for the next book to be released!

Thanks so much for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  22. I was a HUGE Little House fan as a kid. The books and t.v. show totally fired up my imagination and made me wish I was a pioneer/homesteader, ha ha. When I re-read the first book a couple years ago, I was actually disappointed because it wasn’t nearly as magical as it was when I was a child. So, yes, I would love to read the series again for the first time so I could love it as passionately as I did as a kid.

    Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

  23. I’ve read My Lady Jane a couple of times. I love how funny it is. I still need to finish the series though.

My Lady Jane is definitely my favorite in the Lady Janie series. I’m looking forward to My Contrary Mary.

  24. I’ve never read Interview with the Vampire, but I’d like to someday! Great list!

    • Poinsettia says

It was so different from anything I’d read at the time! I’ve read a lot of vampire books since then, but Interview with the Vampire will always be special.

Thanks for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  25. I really need to get around to Beauty and Moon Called, I’ve heard so much great stuff about them.

  26. Great list! I loved the Little House on the Prairie series, too!

    my list

  27. I was so young when I first read The Lord fo the Rings that all I remember is getting to the end and going straight back to the beginning to read it again – so I guess I liked it 😉 …I’d also really like to reread it now. I reread Fellowship and the Silmarillion a few years ago, but never finished the trilogy in spite of loving Tolkien’s prose.

    • Poinsettia says

I think I was around 13 when I read LOTR for the first time. I hope you get a chance to re-read the whole trilogy soon!

Thanks for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  28. Ooh, I recently added the first book of Patricia Briggs’ series to my Kindle library and I’ve heard so many good things about it so I can’t wait to dive in ? I think if I were to re-read Hunger Games and Interview with a Vampire, it might be just like reading it for the first time again cos it’s been so long! I do remember really enjoying those books though. Great list!

    • Poinsettia says

You’ll have to let me know what you think about the Mercy Thompson series when you get a chance to read it! I haven’t read Interview with a Vampire in a very long time. I might have to go back and reread it sometime.

Thanks so much for visiting and commenting. 🙂

  29. Great list! I LOVED Little House in the Big Woods when I was a kid. 🙂
